For the price of admission ($5/pp) you can bet one will get your money's worth walking thru this (storage locker turned) museum. Lots of history and plenty of eye candy (in the form of a Shelby natch!) make for a good stroll thru this museum. On hand are the first FIA win Cobra, The Ken Miles Car, Shelby's Mark II (the one that beat Ferrari) , a gorgeous '65 GT350 Mustang and even a couple of AC Bristol's. I appreciated the placards that accompany many of the vehicles but what would've been even more interesting is if modifications and specs were provided for all cars. Yes, it is true, Shelby Collection is only open on Saturdays, so plan your weekend accordingly. No reservations required, no group min/max. Oh yes, and of course face masks must be worn. Don't forget to stop off at the counter on your way out to register to win a 2021 GT500. It's a beauty!!! Raffle tixs start at $25/5

Always love sharing this little gem located in Boulder. Wish you were open in addition to Saturdays, the Dawson are always so informative and enthusiastic. Anyone who grew up in the 60s will appreciate this gem.

I absently drove/walked by the "Car museum" sign for multiple years. It was so great to finally check it out. Due to their limited hours (Saturdays only) it took a bit of planning to make it happen. While awaiting my partner in crime I noted that there were other excited patrons in the parking lot - taking in and walking around cars that were parked outside. Walking into the establishment the room opens up, its seriously huge in there. There were a few people greeting us at a u-shaped glass case/desk. Entry fee is just $5 which is quite reasonable. It may be an understatement to say there are a lot of cars in this collection. Aside from the cars there is loads of other memorabilia including chili, pit stop deodorant (my personal fave), matchbox cars, clothing, books, oil cans, parts of other vehicles, and lots lots more. All of the vehicles are perfectly parked which I found amazing. There was an information placard in front of each car as well. Many offered the history of the particular model/vehicle and others reflected what races they had been a part of and how they placed. Some of the folks perusing the collection work at the facility and have even driven/raced some of the vehicles. Definitely chat them up if you get the chance. They have lots of great info and history to share and are very passionate about the collection. If you've seen the movie "Ford & Ferrari" you'll be excited to learn that the Fords that took 1st place and 3rd place in the race that was the highlight of the movie are actually here. The car that took 3rd place even sported a price tag which I believe reflected $10-12 million. So save up! My understanding is that the cars in this facility are owned by a few private collectors. So awesome that they opt to house them here so people can enjoy them and their histories as well.

History. The end result of a 2019 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 is, in its own right, a work of art. Carroll Shelby took the canvases of different cars and made them into what he envisioned: a pure, awesome sports car. Ford Mustangs, Shelby Cobras, Ford GT40s, and so much more. These cars were born from passion, and some of the cars raced all around the world. You can really connect with the history here. Just make sure to go on Saturday, since that's the only day it's open!

Here's the Shelby that won Le Mons!

Our club with masks on due to covid toured this awesome museum. Great cars, race cars from all eras. Much to see and read- things on walls. Excellent hour visit. They have the ford that won the Le mons in Ford vs Ferrari movie! Just a great affordable hidden treasure!

Very cool musume. The man at the front was nice and loved talking cars. They have an amazing collection and it is well worth the time if you have any car lovers. Admission was only $5 a person.

    Cobra "Murderer's Row"...

Incredible collection of Shelby racing and high performance history, was just there last weekend. Curators are very friendly & knowledgeable and the place has a nice layout. Especially enjoyed a few minutes visiting with George the Golden Retriever who greeted me when I entered. So sweet & friendly, even if he didn't know much about the cars. As someone else mentioned, take the time to look around at all the memorabilia on the walls and in display cases too. For sure worth the trip...

This is a gem of a museum and the docents have fascinating tales to tell about Carroll Shelby and his adventures.

Visiting NCAR is an extraordinary experience that should be seized by any visitor to or resident of…read morethe area. The complex was designed in 1961 by I. M. Pei, one of the greatest architects of the 20th century, and completed in 1967. Although this was his first major project, it received immediate recognition as a masterpiece of modern design and caused Pei's career to rocket. The buildings are inspired by ancient Pueblo ruins and fit seamlessly into their spectacular foothills setting, rather than trying to dominate the landscape. Meteorology first became criticality important during WWII, but basic research into our weather declined drastically after the war. The National Academy of Sciences approached Congress in 1956 to fund an institute for basic climate research. NCAR has been funded by the National Science Foundation since 1960 and is managed by a consortium of universities. One of NCAR's basic functions is to develop models of our climate and the facility has housed a series of state-of-the-art supercomputers for this purpose. Alas for computer nerds, since 2012 the latest generations of systems are now at the NCAR-Wyoming Supercomputing Center in Cheyenne (there is a nice visitor center and tour if you visit there). NCAR encourages visits by the public and is open every day at no charge. The complex sits at the top of Table Mesa and takes up 28 acres of 565 acres of City of Boulder open space. Getting there is a little tricky. You take Table Mesa Drive through a residential development. The houses suddenly end and you're on NCAR Road which twists seamlessly into the landscape and leads past the main entrance to the huge parking lot. Be careful on the rather steep road as it is used by lots of bicyclists and runners. There's a path from the parking lot to the rear of the complex. A staircase leads to the plaza and public entrance. The setting is gorgeous and there are eight hiking trails of various lengths and levels of difficulty. The main public parts of NCAR are the lobby and adjacent two-level science hall which are packed with dozens of interesting and well-done exhibits, many interactive, that explain the functions of weather and scientific research about it. There's also a small theater, a research library, and Pei's original model of the project. The public is welcome to use the large cafeteria (follow the signs from the exhibit hall) which has great views and hosts a continuing series of art exhibits. I usually stop at NCAR whenever I visit Boulder and always enjoy my time there.

Even without it though, it's a great price for what you get! There is so much to do and explore here! The music section is definitely a favorite as you get to test out so many instruments! Everything was well maintained (minus one or two exhibits that weren't functioning at the time). The toddler area is great for the little ones to be separate. Personally, I was absolutely stoked for the shadow wall - it's just a fun/silly thing to do. When we ventured upstairs we didn't realize there was a theater until a staff member asked if we were there to see the show. Since we had to get going, I asked if I could peak in real quick to check it out and he was totally fine with it. It looks so cool! We will definitely be back to catch a show in the future.

They also have an annual Day of the Dead exhibit created by community members and local artists. There is a permanent exhibit called 'Front Range Rising' which discusses the history of Longmont. You can see many of these past exhibits in a virtual tour on their website! In addition to the exhibits, there are movies, classes, performances and walking tours. The classes and movies relate in some way to the art exhibits. For example, an exhibition called 'Build: Design & Create with LEGO' was connected with the short films created by the legendary designers Charles and Ray Eames. During the Picasso exhibit you were able to take a class to learn how to create a Picasso style portrait. A recent update as of July 2025 is that the galleries will be closed until Fall 2026 while the Longmont Museum has a major expansion of its building. There will be even more galleries and a larger children's area! While the galleries will be closed they are still planning to have events in the auditorium and courtyard. They will also continue their educational programs.
