I called the America express roadside service for help, they helped me found central towing. they arrived in less than one hour, cost me 70 something for 13 miles. The other towing company were ask around 150-200. Bid nice towing truck, the driver were very nice/helpful. The whole process is smooth. Their service just made my bad day better. read more

When I got there, they told me I couldn't get my car until I got a police release form -- something they failed to mention over the phone. That form cost me $240. After getting the release form and going back, they suddenly raised the total to $550, claiming they "forgot" to include one of the fees. I don't see how that's my fault, but they didn't care. They are thieves! $300 to charge within Pleasanton after an accident. That is the hourly rate they charge because the PD called it in and asked for a tow. The truck showed up within minutes and we were told that the car had to be towed by them and that it would be $600 to Hayward. Despite where it was to be towed they charge $300/ hour because the PD called it in so they charge the contracted rate with the PD despite the tow being for a private party!!!!!! The tow was not for an abandoned or stolen vehicle and the tow was not on behalf of the PD because it was a car accident! PD is definitely in on this racket and should be ashamed of themselves for contributing to the public being taken advantage of during such a traumatic event!!!! The driver had the audacity to say that the best option was for him to tow the car to a private address or ELSE he would HAVE had to tow it to their yard and then a release would be needed from the PD and that it would be an extra $260 plus storage fees!! So basically don't call the Police for help because they only make it worse!!! My last experience with this company was many many years ago and that was also a horrible experience in which they overcharged! Police officer would not allow my mom to give me a jump start and decided to call this shady towing company. The price went from $330 for a jump start or tow to $500 within 20 minutes. Sister's car got a broken axel because of a pot hole. I called the closest people and this company were them. They handled everything well and carefully. They arrived quickly and we drove to my place, making it in just under an hour since we were close by, so we only paid for a single hour's worth of their time which was about 170ish. Luis, the driver, took extra care to ensure no damage was done to my driveway. Also would like to apologize for something i posted in the review earlier, which I found out was false, so i just redid the review to reflect my full feelings about the company. This place is ridiculous when your vehicle gets impounded for expired tags. On top of the BS vehicle release fee from the police station, you get double charged for their tow fee. Like you already know someone is getting charged by the police to get their car released, then you hit them up with another fee. That's basically higher then the police release fee. On top of that the guy up front side this is a good business to be in when I said I already got charged. This is not a good business to get into if you focus on making money from police tow. These people are outright crooks, avoid going there. I had an accident yesterday and the police called them to tow my car to their facility on 36849 San Pedro, Fremont. I sent a tow truck from East Bay Collision center body shop to pick up and tow the car to their repair shop. They charged $300 to have the car towed last night to their yard as it was close to their closing time. This morning when the body shop sent a tow truck to fetch the car, at no cost, they refused and said they would have the car towed to the body shop and charged another $235. Worst experience of my life! The guy attending to me (older white gentleman, a bit thick, a lady tattoo on left arm) was rude from the beginning when I got here. Then to make it worse, he ripped me off! Charged me for 4 instead of 3 nights!! How can a car that got towed Friday evening and picked Monday morning sum up to 4 days?! This company appears to be a predatory towing company friend got in an accident had to have the vehicle towed these people were contacted by the police department to pick up the vehicle. The vehicle is damaged to such a point that it couldn't be driven out but be pushed out and my friend is 150 lb young lady and they refuse to let me back there to help push it out and they tried to charge a $300 hook up fee to bring it to the front while our tow truck driver from AAA said he'd be willing to pick it up in the driveway if we can get it out of the back. The large man was very aggressive and rude to us and the AAA driver the only thing that saved the situation was the receptionist agreeing for us to transfer the vehicle so we would not get anymore accrual on the storage fees. Our car was towed by this company from in front of our house for having an expired registration, it is a 97 civic with 225000 miles and we have had trouble getting it to pass smog, although we continued to replace parts and retest it several times over the last 6 months. I have no issue with the tow itself, the car was out of reg, although I incorrectly thought it was safe in front of the house. Where I do have a problem is how they deal with the customers and our circumstances in particular. The car was towed a day after we flew to the Phillipines for 3.5 weeks and when we came back we owed $2000, mostly for storage. The employees did not care that the fees were worth much more than the car, refused to hear our situation or negotiate for lower storage fees, and were extremely rude on the phone. I am rating this 1 star because to me this business is legal extortion, the people involved including the police who are directly involved are criminals, and until there is a reasonable cap on fines this will continue to be legally condoned criminal behavior. I have no problem paying a tow fee to a point, but the $65 uncapped daily storage fee which costs no overhead (basically sticking the car on a dirt lot) is unreasonable. The $500 we offered to get it out should have been more than enough to cover all costs and then some. Our car value in fair condition (which it is not as it doesn't pass smog), is worth a about $600, how they can justify a $2000 ransom on it is inconceivable to me. read more

Do not use this company!!! I called to get my car towed to where I need it to buy new tires. I provided the adress to the lady I spoke, the tow truck was prompt. The only problem was the he took my car where he wanted to "Pep Boys" not where I requested to. I went to the location where I requested and my car never show up. Called the company and they told me the driver decided to take it to the nearest tire place and now i had to pay again to bring it to where I wanted. Do not use this company for any towing needs. They look for ways to overcharge by billing more time. Yesterday on the 880 freeway in Fremont our car was struck by a driveshaft from a truck. Both my tires popped and I pulled over on the freeways. Chp gets involved and they said it needs to be towed to clear the way. Tow truck guy shows up and immediately says it's 230 which we agreed to that we would have to pay upfront or he can take it to their yard and let insurance pay for it. I told him no to the yard because I know they would have added so many fees. The tire shop was a mile away and I thought it won't take that long. The driver took his time to get it hooked just killing the clock and when we reached to the shop he said it's an hour and a half. I asked him how and he said his time starts when the chp calls him which already had been 30 plus minutes. I know their yard is about 5 minutes from where we were so I already knew it was a screwjob. He ended up charging 345 for what should have been 30,45 minutes of work. During these difficult times with Covid and money being tight, these guys are looking for ways to make the fast buck and not caring for what's right. Don't let the chp call this company and don't call them yourself either. Take the extra 15 minutes to find a more reputable company that won't try to get you with extra "fees". Stay away! read more

My stepfather was involved in a very serious solo vehicle collision this afternoon after he suffered a life threatening medical issue that occurred while he was driving to his work in Livermore. Witnesses reported that he randomly drove off the road and ultimately collided into a fence with his foot still remaining pressing down on the accelerator. He was completely incapacitated unable to even communicate or understand what was going on. First responders arrived on scene and he was ultimately transported via ambulance to a local hospital emergency room for life threatening medical aid of his injuries. His truck was subsequently routinely properly towed from the scene by Livermore PD per tow storage authority 22651(g)CVC (When the person in charge of a vehicle upon a highway or public land is, by reason of physical injuries or illness, incapacitated to an extent so as to be unable to provide for its custody or removal). I want to make it very clear here that I have absolutely ZERO issues with why the vehicle was towed from the scene or how Livermore PD handled this incident. I'm a retired police officer myself and I am forever thankful for their service and constant life sacrifices to keep us all safe. I have nothing but love and respect for our US Military, Law Enforcement, Fire Fighters, and Medics. My issue is ONLY with Central Towing and the City of Livermore currently contracting with this completely crooked company and that is why I am sharing our horrible personal experience to warn others, seek guidance on how to prevent this from occurring to others, find any others that have had similar experiences with Central Towing, and demand that the City of Livermore and other local cities and police departments terminate their current contracts with Central Towing as one of their contract towing companies based on the factual evidence. I went into Livermore PD first at 4:30pm that same day and completed our tow release form with the police department within a few hours of the vehicle getting towed. I then took the tow release to the local Central Towing tow yard located at 1022 Shannon Court, Livermore, CA 94551. We arrived at the tow yard at 5:08pm and called the phone number on the wall at 5:12pm. A Central Towing employee arrived at the tow yard about 20 minutes later with "Brandon" on the name tag of his work shirt. He asked for identification and demanded $100 from us first "Before I can even talk to you about your fees". I questioned what it was for and he told me it was a callout "gate fee penalty" that is charged anytime after 5pm Monday-Friday or anytime after 5pm on Friday until they re-open again after the weekend on Monday morning. I informed him that the sign on their wall had the gate fee for Livermore PD tows listed at $65 and not the $100 he was demanding from us. He said he wouldn't help us and couldn't even tell us our total until he had the $100 paid first. I attempted to call the Livermore PD Sergeant back that I had spoken to earlier regarding the collision tow but I got the Sergeant's work voicemail and left a message. "Brandon" then changed his mind and decided he didn't need the $100 up front anymore. He attempted to locate their paperwork for the tow and initially could not even find a record of the tow or vehicle. He claimed the paperwork he had for his records had the tow coming back to a "Buick". I continued to assure him that it was a truck that I could see was inside their tow yard. "Brandon" ultimately called "Lewis" and later provided us with the attached Central Tow invoice half an hour later: Central Towing charged us $670.00 to just release my step father's truck back to us today! Please see attached pictures with the invoice explanation and receipt. That wasn't a typo- I repeat $670.00 (six-hundred and seventy US dollars) to tow a vehicle seven (7) miles which Mapquest estimated the trip takes just 12 minutes from the location of the collision to the tow yard. I obviously questioned this ridiculous amount and requested to speak to the tow yard supervisor. I talked to a male subject that identified himself as "Lewis" on the phone. "Lewis" broke down the $670.00 total Central Towing was charging us was at $100 for the gate fee penalty for showing up at the yard 8 minutes after 5pm on a Friday, $70 for the daily storage fee for the vehicle being at the tow yard for less than two hours, and 2.5 hours of "service" billed at $200 an hour ("$500 in tow service because it took a long time"). I requested to speak with "Lewis'" boss and he told me there was nobody above him because "they're all on vacation now". This entire situation seems wrong and the fee schedule is obviously so ridiculously fraudulently inflated because Central Towing can charge you whatever they want with no other checks and balances in place. Central Towing is obviously abusing the billing system here with the City of Livermore. 2.5 hours of "tow service" on this call is totally false and completely read more

My car was stolen in Hayward awhile back. about a week later the sheriff called me and said the car was impounded by Hayward PD, I call Hayward PD and they tell me my stolen Camry was found in Castro Valley and towed by Central Tow. I call ALL 3 locations and they ask for my plate #, I tell them I don't have it I have the VIN, ALL 3 locations tell me the same thing "call my insurance company and get the plate #" (I knew when they said that, that they have a business secret of making money, and that's being as unhelpful as possible) I go online and get their address, it's off Industrial in Hayward. oh wait. NOPE. They moved and didn't post their new address anywhere (another well thought out business move) at this point I call the police and tell them that this company is withholding information on the whereabouts of my car. The lady I talked to at Hayward PD tells me she hears 'to many' bad things about these guys and that they lost their business license and right to tow vehicles in Dublin and Pleasanton already. Two days later, Hayward PD calls me and tells me to call the Central Tow because the operator who towed my car did not follow their contract with police which is to inform the owner that my vehicle has been picked up and stored. Because my car had no plates, they basically figured it'll be a free lien sale. When I called I got the same guy as a few days prior, unhelpful, and hangs up when your talking. I finally had enough and went to their Fremont yard now that I had a legitimate address. The fat young young sweaty kid at the desk said I owe them $700+ for 4 days. I proceed to tell him that I'm the owner of the stolen Toyota Camry that was towed and that you can't hold my car or lien sale it for that matter without contacting me in a timely order as it Hayward PD told me. He dropped it down to $500 I decided to just leave the old Camry with them. In their eyes they won. A car that was registered to me got towed & impounded by Central Tow while my son was driving because of a CHP issue, i was in Los Angeles, so called & talked with a supervisor named Audbrey Jeffries, who said I need to send them the original of a signed & notarized letter,authorizing someone else to pick up the car, I told her I was in Los Angeles on a business trip & won't be back until after 5 days....told her I could fax or email her a PDF of the letter, she goes "No that is not acceptable. This is literally the worst, most unprofessional, non-communicative, poorly trained customer service experience I have ever received in my life!!! If I could give this business less than a 1 star rating, I most certainly would! My car broke down on a busy freeway during rush hour traffic, so I contacted my auto insurance's roadside assistance, who informed me that Central Towing would tow my car and gave me an ETA of a 3 hour wait. So I had a nearby relative pick me up in the meantime and take me to a parking lot just off the next freeway exit to wait in a safer location, which I informed the dispatcher. The driver called me A WHOLE HOUR earlier than the expected time to inform that he was already at the car waiting for me (no courtesy call to let me know he would arrive earlier than expected), at which time I let him know I was on my way back to meet him at the car. It took me almost 25 minutes to get back to the car in rush hour traffic, and when I arrived the tow truck was nowhere in sight. I called my roadside assistance company, who researched the issue and informed me that Central Towing had cancelled my towing service... WITHOUT ANY NOTIFICATION. The tow driver hadn't even called me back to let me know "I'll have to leave if you're not here in X amount of minutes". Zero communication. My insurance company apologized to me and let me know they had put in a complaint to Central Towing, acknowledged that this was completely unacceptable service, and would help me find another tow company asap. I called Central Towing and spoke to their extremely rude and dismissive "dispatcher", Lewis, to see if there was anything they could do to get my car off the road and to the repair shop, as previously confirmed. He was very unhelpful, rude, dismissive, condescending, and refused to offer up anything other than a monotone "oh well, you weren't there so he left. Nothing I can do". Seriously?!?!?! How incredibly crappy and lacking in empathy for someone stranded on a busy freeway because YOUR DRIVER failed to communicate in a timely manner!! I asked to speak to the manager and got the run around. I will certainly be following up to report this issue with their corporate headquarters, the Better Business Bureau and any other related business association and media outlet possible. This experience was completely unacceptable, frustrating, and hurtful... I unnecessarily spent hours on a dangerous, busy freeway, which could have easily been avoided through timely, proactive communication and a sense of common decency. This company has a relationship with the CHP, which calls it in case of a need for a tow. Meaning that the price is high. A tow from the Fremont Fry's Electronics to their yard near U-Haul of Thornton, which is approx. 5 miles cost $179. A day of storage is $79. These are mid-2015 prices. *Update* Despite what the tow truck driver said, and his repeated assurances that the price would be $179, they ended up charging almost $250. *End of update* On the upside, the tow truck driver came quickly and seemed pretty nice and reasonable. read more

I really appreciate the guys at Central Towing, they were fast and efficient. I had a motorcycle accident, the bike was taken to a tow yard in Hayward. My insurance hired Central Towing to pick up the bike and deliver it to a shop in Santa Clara. My auto insurance had Central Towing tow my foreign brand vehicle from Union City to Fremont for service earlier today. The driver Chris was so professional and skillful at his job. Car would not start, battery run down, steering wheel immovable with tires angled left. First he worked hard and found the special tow-pin deep in the trunk as he said it was the safest way to move the car. With great effort, and ingenuity, using alternate wood blocks, he managed to coax the vehicle up the ramp and secure it safely. Along the way we conversed. He was polite and I found him to be a thoroughly nice, hardworking person. I realized there are some bad past reviews on this company, but I can only speak of my good experience today. read more
