I was searching for a nice local playground. When I saw the YMCA, I thought there had to be one…read moreclose by. When I saw the Dekalb Parks and Recreation sign, I knew I hit a jackpot. I wasn't searching for the latest playground tech, just enough to keep my toddlers entertained. I was pleasantly surprised when I arrived to this playground. It has fun things for all ages. I wish it would get a good pressure wash at least once/year. Nonetheless, it has swings, slides, rock climbing, monkey bars, giant swing, giant spinner, zip-lining, and tent areas for grilling and/or entertaining. Did I mention the YMCA has a water park? It's a special bonus. We'll be back for sure!

Five minutes of getting there and into our walk, this dude comes chasing us down on his mower, scared the hell out of us, thought he was going to run us over, jumps off the mower and comes over and yells at me, "You didn't pick up your dogs poop!" Ok for one, my dog hadn't even had time to poop, we had just got there. And even if I hadn't I didn't appreciate the theatrics. I come there with my dog and disabled husband to walk in peace, it's good therapy for my husband who has dementia but this was uncalled for! If they want to really obsess over something, how about all the poop on the walkway and the used condoms I have to constantly step over!

This park is connected to a beautiful cemetery with such interesting history and views. It is so calming walking the paved paths amongst the burial sites and seeing the love and adoration of the families caring for their ancestors' resting places over the years. This park also has a tennis court, a public pool, a basketball court, a small baseball field, a general field, a pond, and a playground. It is clean and quiet, and those visiting the park are incredibly friendly. I tend to rate parks based on their visitors, and most of my "good evenings" were met with a very pleasant response unlike some of the more busy parks in ATL. There were families riding their bikes together, couples strolling amongst the graveyard, an older gentleman fishing in the pond, young men competing on the basketball court, people respectfully walking their dogs, a yoga session happening in the field and much more. This park is a catch-all for any age and experience. I'm sure I'm missing some of the amenities -- it has a lot to offer. Shout out to Decatur for maintaining this little gem. I highly recommend.

Since it is relatively new, all the equipment is in good condition and well functioning. Honestly, there are a lot of things to keep kids occupied from swings to slides. I can keep myself busy if you ask me :) There are some benches to sit around/have a picnic but overall not very big. The park is gated so it's fairly secure and there is plenty of parking. There is an adjoining open area if you want to get your dogs and let them play around (note: this area is not a true dog park as there is no place to throw doggy poop other than going back into Ethridge park and throwing it in there). There are individual trails off the main trail where you walk through mud, dirt, and thick brush, so keep that in mind. For the trails less traveled, look out for the spider webs! Some of the trails lead down to the river. There are playgrounds, a bathroom area (not sure if it was open), and a one big gazebo if you want to rent the space for an event. If you want to get a nice walk or run in without a lot of people, this park is perfect.

There are 2-3 trails around the park but a bit rugged, so I recommend going when there's plenty of daylight. Parking spots are plenty and the park is pet-friendly. It's in a quiet neighborhood, so you don't hear any traffic or feel like you're even in the city. Most people seem to live close by and walk to the park...but I believe there's street parking near the entrance. My main concern about this park is the same as that of nearby Candler Park -- no public bathrooms. When you're potty training a toddler, it's a serious struggle.
