Though it is completely fenced, if you have a smaller dog, you will probably definitely want to follow them around the first time you go. It's that big. The first time I took my puppy, someone actually offered to help me go find him because he had disappeared. Luckily, just at that moment, he came running out of the woods. There's also a small pool that you can fill up with water for your dogs and several water bowls. The park is a bit hidden, so you really have to look for the chain-link fence. There is no one area for small or big dogs. And there are several areas for seating. For me, this would not be an every day park, but maybe once a month for the new smells and new dogs.

Oakhurst is dog heaven - I'm so thankful that this beautiful plot of land has been preserved and set aside for dogs to enjoy. There is just one area (no separation between small and large), but the park is big and includes pools, an open space, agility equipment, and fenced in shaded trails. The trails make this spot so unique and so nice to go on an off leash "hike" - it's a peaceful and shady spot that stays cool even on the hottest days. The park is very well maintained by volunteers, and we've found dog owners to be very friendly and attentive on each of our visits.

Scott got a great review on Next Door. he offers a 30 minute complimentary conversation by phone. we spoke a bit about Schatzi's problem. he suggested a 3 visit pkg and i couldn't get my credit card out fast enough. from our conversation, i knew i was in good hands. what was really great about Scott was it wasn't a 1 size fits all fix. he offers advice in between scheduled visits, either on the phone or text, if needed. i took advantage of that because i didn't want to be 'off track' on my part of the training. he tweaked the training when something wasn't working. the amount of time he gave me was amazing and he basically completely transformed my dog. feeding time is low stress now. Schatzi still is not 100% there but definitely more than manageable and the aggression and guarding is gone. this guy knows his stuff and Schatzi was putty in his hands. if you're ready to give up, don't, call Scott.

She was 2 years old and was in a home where another dog attacked her multiple times. Her humans unselfishly decided that Olive deserved a better home and put her up for adoption. When I took Olive she suffered from severe fear aggression towards other dogs. Scott got me on the right track with her rehabilitation. His program made a big difference in her behavior right away. Over the past two years I have faithfully practiced the training techniques Scott taught me. You wouldn't believe the difference in Olive now. She is a happy, healthy and thriving little dog. She has progressed to the point where she can enjoy private agility lessons, playing with other dogs in dog parks, going to doggie day care occasionally and long walks with her human. She is still a little leash reactive when she sees another dog but no longer fearful, just excited. She continues to improve and I am confident she will become more dog neutral on lead in time. Working with Scott, one on one, was so helpful for me and Olive. Give him a call.

I have been coming to this park for 3 months now and think it's really great! I haven't seen any of…read morethe issues the other users have mentioned. But I did notice significant changes to the park before I started coming. Pros: The large dog park is huge with plenty of space for your dog to run around and play. The trees offer great protection from the sun on those hot, summer Atlanta days. It's always stocked full of poop bags and miscellaneous toys that have been left either by the caretakers or previous users. The area is also very dog friendly! It's in the middle of downtown and midtown, so within a 15-20 minute walk you'll find tons of restaurants with dog friendly patios. Pretty much anywhere with a patio usually allows dogs! Cons: It's not an active dog park. In my experience, it averages about 1-2 parties in the park at a time. There's a lot of people that use the dog park especially around 8am and 5/6pm when people get off work, but outside of those hours it's pretty empty. Which is great if your dog isn't as social or needs to warm up to other dogs. However, if you're like me and have a very social dog, this might not be your park of choice just yet as it builds back up it's reputation.
