You go through some pretty unscenic parts of Sandy Springs in order to get there, but once you are there, it's nice. Warning: it's VERY family friendly. So...if you're looking for peace, do NOT go on a weekend afternoon or something. Go off hours during the work week when you're "working from home", jk. The kayak and paddleboarding is pretty nice, it feels enclosed and not too big, so that you won't float off entirely. The park area can be nice too, when it's not overflowing with loud children running amok. My friend went there to kayak and fish before too.

This was a fun find with my clients recently. Tucked away down this quiet little road past a church is this beautiful, relaxing park. There's two sides to it when you drive in. We went to the right to the Morgan Falls section where there are pavilions with picnic tables, a great view of Bull Sluice Lake, a good sized (partially covered) playground, clean bathrooms, and a whole row of swinging benches overlooking the water - including another circle of swinging benches to the left. It's a great place to just chill out and relax uninterrupted it seems like. We went on a weekday around lunch time, so there was only one other group using the pavilion. We opted to utilize the swinging benches for our meal time. Parking was no issue, although, I can imagine it must get pretty busy on weekends and holidays. The back road on the way in had a lot of bikers and pedestrians crossing at different times, so please drive slowly of course, as they may come out of nowhere! It was really peaceful to just eat overlooking the lake in a quiet surrounding. There's a place off the parking lot you can rent kayaks and equipment to take out to the water if interested and a long, winding ramp down to the dock to launch or just walk down to the water. There was a sign on the way in showcasing all the different kinds of animals that inhabit this park, which my clients and I thought was pretty cool. It seems like you could definitely spend a considerable amount of time here just unwinding on a quiet day. I would definitely say come check it out if you've never been here. I'll be back!

We had a great Saturday at Morgan Falls! The lake was wonderful and we sat out there for hours people watching and also walking around! We want to come back in the summer and get in the lake! Great for a afternoon in the park!

This is a fun little park to take the kids and play on the park. There is also a historic feature. After playing there is a small hike that a 5 year old could handle. We didn't do it but you can rent a kayak and do some boating. Also there are lots of swings for looking at the water. We had a blast, there is a different inking fountains there and even one for four legged friends.

Randomly stumbled upon this park last week after being in the area. It's very beautiful. It has a massive park for children to play at. There is a great area for grilling. At the bottom there is a place with canoes and kayaks.

Our first stop in #atlantaga was a playground stop in #sandysprings at Morgan Falls Overlook. There is a small trail that goes around the water but the playground is incredible! It is fenced in except for the entrance which helps so much! There are two areas, one for younger children and one for olders. With having multiple ages it was so nice to be able to monitor both. We were there on a Thursday afternoon and it wasn't busy at all! If you are in the area, it is an amazing and FREE energy burner.

I really enjoyed coming here for the first time! We had a picnic, while social distancing. We sat right on the river and enjoyed a nice meal with nature. If you've never been to Morgan Falls, I definitely recommend it! There's a couple different areas here. They even have a playground for kids. There's plenty of parking on either side of the park. I recommend bringing your own beach blankets or towels, find a nice shady spot, and bring some food to enjoy this river view.

    Evening at the park.

This is one of my favorite parks. It can be hard to find a good parking spot during peak hours, but, it has an amazing waterfront view, swings, tables and a short (1 mile) hiking path. This is a very relaxing and fun park for all age groups. Plenty of walking paths and green space

    Great little lake for kayaking

Such a nice little park. You can rent kayaks or paddleboard's. You can sit in one of the many swings that overlooks Lake and enjoy the beauty. Clean restrooms and a wonderful children's playground. Go the other direction and you can see the dam. Nice place to picnic .

I absolutely love this park! One of my favorite places to go in Sandy springs. If you live in the area or are looking to satisfy multiple family members at once - look no further! This park is pretty big and not too far from the highway. It has a walking trail, wooden swings that overlook the water, they have canoe rentals, an actual park for kids a big kid and baby park, there is an area where most play soccer. There is also an area to grill and use for parties, gatherings, etc. it's so beautiful! Also, the park is covered! who doesn't love a covered park!? Your kids will thank you ! Plenty of seats for parents and just a nice beautiful scenic area. They have events in the park as well. If you live close by keep track of them and you'll have yourself a new family hangout spot. Will always go back!

Pretty park with less than 1 mile hiking trail. The bench swings are very nice. Very crowded with kayakers and paddle boaters, so instead of parking in the lot right when you turn in, turn left and go down the hill to park in the gravel lot right by the dam.

The park is actually two sections, separated by a lake. The park is a nature park has has many picnic tables and shelters, with picnic tables under them scattered on both sides of the park. Some of the picnic tables and shelters are located along the river and provide some panoramic views. The park also features a nice nature trail that is in the wood and pretty well shaded. On one side of the park you will find a small, but newer playground area with percussion instruments, saucer swings, and a couple of slides. It is pretty basic. The other side has a much larger playground. It has a huge play structure that looks like a fort and has a rock climbing wall, slides, and bridges. There is also a pyramid net climber, saucer swings, and toddler swings. The equipment is pretty spread out and in pretty good shape. There is a smaller play structure for little ones which has tunnels, slides, and bridges. You will find rocking animals in that area as well. This side of the park also has a restroom facility. This park is certified as a wildlife habitat and you will see water fowl, geese, beavers and squirrels up close and personal to name just a few animals. Someone was fishing while I was there, but I do not know how good the fishing is, or even if it is allowed. I do not know if it is part of the park, but across the street you will find a huge and amazing baseball complex that looks like it is home to a junior college. It is nice and very well maintained. All in all, this park is decent. It is well maintained and the lake and views are awesome . I will admit that There is not much to offer outside of the trails, shelter, lake, and picnic tables. I like the park, but I was not wow'ed or overwhelmed. The playgrounds are somewhat basic and probably would not holds a kids attention too long. This park would be great for those looking for a nature park.

This area is federal land with parking pass fee or use your annual/lifetime pass. First, the confusing part. Getting there! There is small sign or Akers Mill (see my picture) and it does not refer to it as West Palisades, even though all the markers inside the park say that. The intersections in the park on the trails are indicated as WP1, WP2, WP3, ... So to navigate go from one junction to another. There is handy wooden trail map at every junction. Trail names are non existent. Parking lot off Akers Mill is large and paved, but no bathrooms (WP12). Another large parking lot off Cobb Parkway has bathrooms (WP1). Also the park connects to county parks along Rottenwood Creek, which gives additional options. These are paved and more oriented towards bicycles. We did an 8 mile hike here. Starting at WP12. Hiking trails through the woods and along the river, back and forth with some decent elevation. When we got to WP1 we hiked along the Rottenwood Creek trail back to Akers Mill. At that point we walked along the road back to the parking area. Very nice combo of woods, paved paths, sidewalks. This was after Hurricane Zeta, so a lot of blow down on the trails but we were able to get around it. (See pics). A good workout! This was during covid and midweek, busy but not too bad. Have been here on the weekend and lots of folks, but plenty of parking and with the large size of the area plenty of space between groups hiking. Great area near the metropolitan area.

These natural parklands are a good place for walking, running, biking, kayaking and fly fishing! Ambiance is a natural park in the edge of a bustling city flanked by urban infrastructures...not manicured, full of bushes, trees, streams and the river with huge concrete overpasses. It's a good location to visit nature ITP. Here's the DL. About 1/3 of the paved trails and 3/4 of the unpaved trails are canopied with rolling elevation (~900 feet). Here, you could stroll a peaceful couple of miles and trail run moderate 5 - 8 miles. The paved trails are well marked and easy to navigate. But, the undeveloped trails are NOT with limited signs /blazes. Most unpaved trails are in the forest and have limited views of the river. Some parts are ridden with roots, loose rocks and boulders so wear proper shoes. When you do go on undeveloped trails, please "leave NO trace". There's a small ruin in the middle of the parklands but is unmarked, very steep with heavy over-growth. Biking is allowed ONLY on paved trails. Fly-fishing, I see when the water level is lower with slower currents. Encounters with trail blocking gumps occur here on weekends. Sunday strollers with NO self-awareness, blocking both sides, leisurewear selfie posers blocking trails and some parking themselves in the middle of an unpaved trail... :-/ Dogs on leash. There is No Maid service here to picks up your duty bag(s). There's a trash bin specifically for pets at the parking lot so pack out your 4 legged kids' mess paw-leash! Self-service...there are a few picnic tables, benches, animal proof trash bins, bathrooms, water fountains at the trail head and a boat ramp adjacent to the parking lot (off Cobb PKY / 41) for boats and kayaks. Next to the bathrooms there's a leveled grass area for Frisbees or other group games. Occasionally, I've seen CCP riding bicycles or electric motorcycles here as 2PDs are nearby. Parking is $3/day or $35/year and has about 60+ spots. Drive slowly...it's not the smoothest lot. Pay at the trailhead next to the boat ramp and the bathrooms. Be sure to display the perforated paper on your dash as rangers regularly check and ticket. These 4 nature areas are great if you are looking to workout with elevation changes in varying terrains...wood, boulders, concrete, mud, loose rocks, dirt...with views of the forest, streams and river at a nearby location. Enjoy!

I will include some of the pictures I have, but I have caught at least 1 fish every time I have been there. I have caught fish on minnows, shad, worms and soft plastics. Mostly large mouth and crappie, but usually at least 1 turtle every visit as well. I have always been greeted with a smile and have never regretted the drive to get there. I am more so writing this review to combat the negative reviews, and possibly provide tips to enhance people's experience. Of course as always some days are better than others, but time of day and water temperature are a thing. There are a lot of people in my opinion that keep too many fish out of this lane which also slows down the fishing during the later part of the summer. Turtles are a nuisance during their breeding season. The feeders are a nice touch and also impact fish movement. Now let's get to the gear. I have learned smaller hooks especially with live bait. I use size 4 or smaller. Slower retrieve works better mid day and later with plastics, while early morning the fish are a lot more aggressive and active. I have fished a lot of different places around both lakes, but I stay away from the smaller lake during snake breeding season. However, if your careful and don't mind getting snagged (and it will happen) this risk near the back of the smaller lake is usually worth it. Of the pictures I'm posting the big largemouth I am holding I caught May 26th around 6 pm. I threw it back so hopefully someone else will be able to enjoy that fight. Good luck and happy fishing.....
