My friend and I met up and I happen to have the dogs with me, we were going to try a coffee shop, but ended up here instead. I haven't been to this park in forever, back when I used to race there was a race held in February that I've done a couple times And I remember it being very scenic. This is a great place to walk your dogs or just go on a walk by yourself or with friends. There's a little playground equipment for kids as well. I'd say it's a good fit for everyone. What a great venue to just walk around and not have to worry about distractions like cars. They have poop bags strategically placed along the route, which is perfect as well. A lot of the path had sunlight which kept us warm because it was actually a pretty cold day out. I think we walked about 3 miles which was perfect and I definitely would endorse this place For anyone looking to get some outdoor activity. It was a very clean park as well. Please, let's keep it that way! Parking is free and there are plentiful spots. I love the beauty of the outdoors and this is definitely a great place to take it all in.

This park is amazing. It is like a little city and spans 110 acres. They have a very nice dog park that is separated into two sections, one for small dogs and the other for larger dogs. You will also find a 9-hole disc golf course scattered in the parks woods and a very nice paved 2-mile trail system. The park has shelters spread out around the grounds. Some are single picnic table shelters and some are single picnic table gazeoobos and there is a medium sized first-come, first-serve pavilion, with a restroom facility attached. The park has ample bathroom facilities and a decent amount of parking. The park is also home to a skate park, a community garden, and outdoor amphitheater. Just off of the amphitheater is the Great Lawn pavilion which has picnic tables under it that seats 200 and grills outside of it. The community garden has organic food and is run by volunteers, so there are no set hours. The skate park is lighted and spans 27,000 sq. ft. For an extra fee, the Treetop Quest is available. It is an elevated course and zip-line adventure that features 52 obstacles and 12 zip-lines in 4 courses. There is a lot of greennspace available at the park where you can play catch, have a picnic, play a game or just run around. The park's playground is awesome. It has a small creek that runs though it. I saw a bunch of kids playing in the water. The play ground is divided into an area for toddlers and an older kids area. The playground's equipment is very colorful and in excellent shape. There are jungle gyms canopies and slides, pebble bridges swings of varying sizes, several sets of monkey bars, a multicolored tunnel, and a "log roll" for balancing. There are two multi-sport fields, that are first come, first served for unorganized activities. The fields have a concession stand, overlook plaza, parking, restroom facility Additionally, there are two lighted baseball fields here that are available for pick-up games, outside of the scheduled school and baseball activities. They are very nice fields and are well maintained. Across from the playground is small veterans memorial. The building was locked during my visit so, I had to peek through the window to see it. This park is amazing and has everything. I really enjoyed my time here. You can easily spend a half a day or more here. I highly recommend checking this park out. It is a fabulous destination spot and I am sure that you will enjoy it.

This was my first time at Brook Run Park. A huge playground for children. A nice walking trail. A skate park and I even saw a sign for zip lining. Great place to explore.

This is currently one of my favorite local parks to go to. It is quite large and includes/connects to a lot of facilities: skate park, dog park, large playground, paved trials, farmer's market on the weekend, food trucks, Pernoshal park for basketball courts, soccer fields, Dunwoody community garden. There is good number of parking places and EV charging spots. Unlike other parks outside of Dunwoody, you do have to pay to charge.

I am very impressed by Brook Run Park because of the variety of things to do and see! I've come here a few times during the past year, mainly to walk, jog and run. During those times, I've run around the park, through the park, through fields - just about everywhere seeing what's in the park, and the things I've noticed so far are: * Soccer field * Picnic pavilions - covered and with restrooms. * Great Lawn Amphitheater * Skatepark - it's big! * Playground that has padding on the ground and is covered, so kids (and parents) can play on the equipment in the shade. * Veteran's Memorial building * Dunwoody Trailway - this cement paved path is used by walkers, bicyclists, runners and dog walkers, and circles the 2.75 mile-long perimeter of the park. It also branches out toward Park at Pernoshal Court. * Ziplines * Treetop obstacle course - the vendor (Treetop Quest) sells snacks and drinks during their limited hours. * Frisbee golf course * Beehives * Dog parks - separate parks for large dogs and small dogs. * Dunwoody Community Garden and Orchard * Certified Wildlife Habitat * Lots of parking spaces - on the street and in lots. Note that there may be fees or memberships required for some of these activities (I didn't do full research on everything). A park directory that I looked at included 2 baseball fields, but they look like they are used by a school. This park is well maintained, except for the dog parks, which I think need some improvement. I'm surprised there isn't a pool or a water park here. If you have little kids, there are lots of places at this park for them to explore, but not on their own. If you plan on visiting this park, you'll have to bring your own food and drinks; bring water as a minimum. There are lots of green space to enjoy. Enjoy!

Great park to get your daily walking in! The main trail will take about 30 minutes to get back to the parking lot. People walk, roller skate, bring their dog, etc. It's relatively flat with a few uphills. They keep it relatively clean as well. There is also ample parking nearby, bathrooms and a big playground for kids. They also have a big activity area with roofs that you can reserve for events. It's just off the highway and pretty close by for anyone living ITP or OTP!

My favorite paved park to run and train in. The shade is perfect in the summer, the leaves are stunning in the fall, and the width of the sidewalk is ideal for foot traffic flow. There's a dog park, playground for the kiddos, and farmers market on Saturdays. Things you should know: I. PARKING There's plenty at the entrance. If it's full (like it typically is Saturdays) then you just need to pull back a little further into the park. There's spots available everywhere. II. QUALITY Very well maintained. A lot of the facilities are NEW. III. CAPACITY It gets very lively in the evenings and weekends

What a great looking park! I didn't get a chance to see all of it, but what I did see, I really liked. We started by checking out the playground. It was much bigger and had way more slides and things to do than I initially expected. I liked how it was split into multiple playgrounds divided by age groups. There was a section for babies, one for kids under 5, and another for 5 and older kids. Plenty of activities to keep your kids busy and entertained. There is a picnic pavilion for adult seating with a good view of all of the playgrounds so you can keep an eye on your kids. And as an added bonus, it is all covered and shaded. As we were leaving, I decided to do a quick drive around to see what else might be around the park. To my surprise, there was a nice looking skate park with several people using it. There are some walking trails. And lastly, just out of curiosity, we followed signs that led to a ziplining and ropes course. So cool! Will definitely want to come back again to check that out next time. It also looked like there was more construction going on, so it may be expanding soon. Can't wait to see what else they decide to add to the park.

Brook Run Park is a great little park! There's plenty of parking. They have a skate park, fields, and even a walking trail! In December, they have lights. It's not much, but it's cute! There are also food trucks in the warmer months. It's a great park to hang out, exercise, and for kids to play!

One of my favorite parks and walking trails to take my dog to! I honestly come here almost everyday with him. The walking trail that loops around the park is the perfect distance for us and we always feel safe here! There's plenty of clean bathrooms, water fountains, benches, and places to stop along the way for a break. Love coming here!

We just want to go outside & play !

My wife and I visited Open Hand Atlanta to volunteer our time for a couple of hours to prep meals…read more Open Hand provides nutritional meals for those with chronic diseases, such as AIDS/HIV, different forms of cancer, etc. These nutritional meals promote and prolong healthier way of life. Once you arrive and sign in, you'll be taken to a waiting room area, where Open Hand staff gives you a rundown of their history and what their mission is. You also get the rules of the prep room and are gifted a one of a kind hairnet, plastic apron, and men with facial hair gets face masks. No jewelry may be at any time. Rings, necklaces, earrings, facial piercings, watches, etc. can NOT be worn. There are different things that you can do at this space, but I wanted to do meal prep. We washed our hands and grabbed plastic gloves. Keep in mind, the gloves are different sizes. The meal prep was like an assembly line. The meal we prepped was Beef Stroganoff on Noodles with Green Beans. With a scale, the first person weighed the appropriate number for the noodles, the second person weighed the right number of beef stroganoff, and the third person weighed the right number for green beans. There is then a fourth person who wipes off any excess food from around the rim of the food container. This is important so the plastic cover will seal appropriately. It's then put in this contraption that holds multiple containers and a person press seals it and puts it to the side. This is definitely quite a process, but once you get into the flow of it, it becomes easier. Some people make it a challenge against another group to see who can make the most meals. Side note: THIS PLACE IS FREEZING! The ENTIRE BUILDING IS COLD! Bring a jacket or hoody. Overall, this is a great place to come with a group or by yourself and do some charitable services. Fortunately, we came with a large group of my wife's coworkers, so we were able to knock out over 2,500 meals which was awesome! I'd definitely come back.

I volunteered at Open Hand two weeks ago (Saturday, July 22, 2017) and had a lot of fun. I didn't…read moreknow what to expect as far as working conditions, the general environment, and exactly what we would be doing. Would I be in some freezing cold meat locker? Would I be inside an insanely hot warehouse? Would I be breaking my already broken back moving heavy objects around? Would I be doing some mundane task for hours and be bored out of my mind? Fortunately, the answer to all those questions was no. I went with a big group to celebrate someone's birthday (a neat idea). Half of us did meal packing and the other half did market basket packing. I signed up for meal packing. Our meal packing session involved packing meals into bags and portioning food into individual containers (think frozen TV dinners). The food was already cooked and just needed to be heated up to be eaten. Market basket packing involves packing nonperishable foods. In this case, the food wasn't cooked and the recipients would need to cook it themselves. We signed up to work from 1pm to 4pm. Each of us had to register on Open Hand's website. After registering and reserving our spots, we received confirmation emails with information, reminders, and dress code requirements. One of the dress code requirements in my confirmation email said, "Long pants are preferred. Skirts or dresses must be shin length." I wore shorts. When standing, those shorts touched the top of my knees. My girlfriend, who also signed up for meal packing, wore shorts too. Her shorts were shorter. She ended up getting moved to market basket packing because of the length of her shorts. This wasn't a big deal, but the dress code requirements listed in the confirmation email should have been more clear about shorts or simply just said that long pants are required for meal packing. There was at least one other person in our meal packing group with knee-length shorts. When you arrive to Open Hand, the volunteer entrance is clearly marked. Each volunteer must sign in and sign out using a computer just inside the entrance. We arrived right around 1pm, checked in, and were ushered into an orientation room. The orientation was quick, about 10 minutes. A short video about Open Hand was played and then we got some in-person instruction. After that, we were whisked to our volunteer work areas. For meal packing, we had to wear hair nets and aprons. First, we helped prepare bags to place meals in, then we moved into the meal packing work area. This was a cool, clean room with various tables and assembly lines. One group was already sealing TV dinner trays when we arrived. We washed our hands and helped assemble bags with four meals in them: Monday lunch, Monday dinner, Tuesday lunch, and Tuesday dinner with cornbread and condiments (ketchup and mustard). It was pretty easy. Each person was assigned to place one or two items into each bag and pass it down. I was responsible for the ketchup and mustard. After a bag had four meals, cornbread, and condiments, it was tied and placed on a tray which was later stacked and carted off. We assembled 126 of these Monday-Tuesday meal bags. Two of our meal packing group were broken off and sent to the cornbread station where they individually bagged and sealed cornbread. The cornbread was already cooked and cut. After assembling the meal bags, we took a short break in the break room and then were called back into the meal packing room for another job. This time, we had to portion food into TV dinner trays which would later be sealed. This task was harder than the last because we had to handle food directly with our hands (wearing gloves of course) and measure correct portion sizes using scales. We packed 285 meal trays filled with chicken, mushroom risotto, and peas and pearl onions. The hands of the people scooping and portioning out the risotto and peas got tired. I helped a little bit with the peas and organizing and stacking the meal trays on bigger trays, but I mostly was responsible for placing a piece of chicken on top of the risotto. We ended up spending almost our full 3-hour allotment at Open Hand. The market basket packing group ended up finishing early, in under 1.5 hours. Volunteer Services Manager Julie Barwig was the person who oversaw our group. In the meal packing room, Andre led us for the meal bag packing and Shameka led us for the meal tray portioning. Everyone was nice and friendly. I enjoyed the experience so much that I'm now considering signing up to do meal delivery. Open Hand's mission statement: "Open Hand helps people prevent or better manage chronic disease through Comprehensive Nutrition Care, which combines home-delivered meals and nutrition education as a means to reinforce the connection between informed food choices and improved quality of life." The campus is located in the industrial Armour neighborhood of Atlanta near SweetWater Brewing Company and the Armour Yard rail yard on the southern edge of Buckhead.
