My concern isn't billing related or service related. On two occasions, first about a year ago I witnessed a group of service men outside a housing community. Spewing racially charged comments towards the residents. Called on to report this conduct and ended up falling on deaf ears. Today, as I drove down Main St in Poughkeepsie. I observed two workers unloading a service truck gawking and woofing. At what could've been a 20-25 year old young lady. From my window I yelled " get back to work" in reply I believe I heard a vulgar response. I from that time and for the following hour was bounced around on calls to file a report. AN ABSOLUTE HORROR. Over the course of a few years, we have received massive 'adjustments' totaling THOUSANDS of dollars. Years of speaking to 'customer service' have done nothing. We took this to our representative, who took our well-document litany of abuses- and, nothing. Yesterday, another 'adjustment' with an immediate shut- off ( we are on 'payment plan" etc etc) - NO help. During the worst of winter the same thing happened- a shut-off notice arrived at five pm ( for the following morning) with NO word before this- and we were paying our bill ! Central Hudson is all over the news with their incorrect billing practices, the least that they could do is be more self aware of customer service and departments within the company. On April 10, I received an email from the DG Interconnection Team, a division within CH, for an outstanding work order for solar panels that were never installed. When I called CH to request the work order be cancelled, agent Lisa advised me that DG Interconnection is NOT Central Hudson but rather a solar company that is posing as CH. She advised me that they even go to customers houses with CH badges pretending to be CH employees, but they are in fact, not Central Hudson. Lisa advised me that she put a block on my account to prevent any unauthorized work orders for solar equipment to be done and that I should call the company that sent me the email to ensure my work order was cancelled. When I called DG Interconnection, I spoke to Sara who informed me that they are a department at Central Hudson and that they are legitimate. She told me Lisa did not know what she was talking about. She confirmed that she removed the work order and confirmed the company it came from. Sara requested I call them to ensure that they are not trying to still submit any work orders. Sara also said she would talk to leadership as Lisa must be new and has not had proper training. Instead, I called back Lisa, who was offended that the agent said she was wrong and wasn't properly trained. She looked at my account and stated that if they were a department within CH that there would be notes on my account. Lisa told me that there were no notes. I mean, seems legit, right? I pushed back a little and Lisa put me on hold. She came to tell me that her manager has no idea who these people are, and I should be concerned. I was told I should submit an email at the Central Hudson web site. I read the email signature to Lisa and explained they identify as CH, up to and including the address and a central hudson email address. Lisa said that this happens all the time. At this point, I am half concerned but half confused. Lisa placed me on hold and came back to report with gusto that her manager DOES NOT know this department and this company is lying to me. Naturally, I called back Sara. She defiantly told me that they are a department at CH and she doesn't need to justify to me. I explained as a customer, it is a concern to get emails from non CH personnel stating that they are and that CH customer service confirmed otherwise. Sara placed me on hold. Sara came back. Sara told me that HER manager is going to contact customer service and that they are affiliated with CH. Saras told me that they use the same portal to access customer information. When I mentioned that she did not make notes on my account, she related it was a different system for work orders. I called back Central Hudson Customer Service. I spoke to Steve, who told me that Lisa was just a customer service agent in billing and doesn't know what she was talking about. Steve was going to put me through to the solar panel team to further explain. Steve left me on hold for 20 minutes. I hung up. Go fix yourself CH. If you can't bill properly, and cannot even educate your team so that they confuse customers perhaps you should let other electric companies take over. read more

Central Hudson is unable to properly calculate their own internal billing and have issued outrageous bills to their customers. When attempts are made to rectify Central Hudson's billing issue that Central Hudson created through their own negligence, no representatives can be reached. Central Hudson should not continue to be in service if they cannot balance their own billing operations. Update: received another bill for a totally unreasonable amount. Inflation is out of control and there is barely a job market left and Central Hudson continues to issue bills with unbelievable amounts. I was able to speak to customer service but they were unable to provide effective assistance. What Central Hudson is doing is beyond disgusting, it is absolute criminal. Update 2: it is always a new bottom with Central Hudson. My complaint through Pat Ryan's office finally reached Central Hudson. I received an email from a Central Hudson representative stating that my relative, who has been a point of contact for over a year and half with Central Hudson, now needs to be put on a release of information on my account, in order to have any information discussed. So I have to waste more time, putting a release on my account, so that my additional point of contact, who has also been dealing with Central Hudson, can have billing information discussed. Even though, my relative has access to all billing information already and has been working in tandem with me, to try and mop up Central Hudson's mess, for over a year. Also, would like to point out that if you post any sort of complaint on Central Hudson's Facebook, they have an administrator who responds to your post, who will only gaslight you and not provide any real assistance. Central Hudson e-mailed us on April 9th 2024 that we owed nothing on our current bill because we had a zero balance or a credit on our account. But six days later, a bill arrived for the month we weren't supposed to pay, added to our current charges. A customer service rep told me the e-mail had been a mistake. Our online account also shows zero for that month, repeating the same mistake. There is no explanation except for a "glitch" in the system. The phone rep's are pleasant but helpless to explain billing mistakes. The bottom line is that Central Hudson's billing system remains incompetent. If the company were not a public utility that people are forced to use, it would be out of business in a month or two. The company changed CEO's last year because of public outrage. I plug the things in... I turn the things on... they work. 99.9% of the time, that's all I care about, and I take for granted all the happy little electrons dashing through my house to power my creature comforts. But it's that other 0.1% of the time that matters most, and most of that is based on how they treat you as a customer, including how quickly they repair power outages. For the over 40 years that I have been a Central Hudson customer, thankfully I don't recall that I ever had to deal with customer service, except to report a change of address. Then again, I'm not using their website for anything other than checking outages when they happen, and I still pay my bill the old fashioned way. I've been generally (but maybe not always) satisfied with the teams that do the outage repairs. Thanks to their website, I can tell just how pervasive an outage is, and their repair status is fairly accurate, certainly more accurate than what I've seen for customers in other parts of New York State. After large-scale incidents like blizzards and thunderstorms, they do seem to give the areas with the largest numbers of customers without power priority as appropriate. But it's those smaller incidents that make me wonder. A few years ago, my transformer blew out on a summer afternoon, knocking out power for exactly 5 houses. The outage map showed only 2 outages in the entire region at the time. A service truck didn't come by for 5-6 hours, after dark, and it was 1 guy who walked around the pole for about 5 minutes who did little more than shine a flashlight at the top of the pole. It wasn't until 2am that 2 trucks arrived to replace the transformer. 2am? Really? Those regular energy efficiency reports I receive in the mail are a joke. Wow, in the summer, I'm in their bottom bracket. Could it be because I have several air conditioners and a dehumidifier going seasonally? And them I'm one of their most efficient customers in the spring and fall when the temperatures are nice. This is stuff I already know, and I scowl a little bit at the unnecessary time and expense of such things read more

I just wanted to warn all central hudson customers to always check your bank statements! I don't always check mine but i will for now on. anyways I was scrolling down the page and there it was a debit from my account for more than 1500 dollars. So i asked my wife if she had paid a bill to CHG&E for that amount and she said no the bill was for 300 something dollars. this took place in October of 2021 and my wife has been going back and forth with them for the past 3 months getting the run around. They kept passing it on to someone else and asking for all kinds of paper work made us late on my mortgage payment and only after saying we were going to call the news did they finally say they would mail out a check. We never had to fight so hard for money that was wrongfully taken. Plus we were also signed up for automatic payment when we never did. read more

I cant believe this company exists without any lawsuits pending. Crooks. They don't come every other month, like they say, to read my meter. I don''t have AC nor do I have electric heating. I have one fridge. I don't watch TV. I use a gas stove, which I get gas from Star (a different company, btw, they are awesome). Now, how in the world am I spending 1200 kwh? I have tried to call and speak to someone, and I only get really nasty representatives who keep telling me that someone came and read the meter (they come maybe once in 4 months, I am pregnant and unemployed since last year). Unless the rep is invisible and is undetectable by 3 dogs, I haven't seen him here. In May, I only spent 200kwh, which is normal and what I realistically spend. All my lights are LED, which again I don't used because I have windows. Lights on at night, in one room, for a limited amount of time. Only a 2 person household. I have had ConEd in the city, and they are accurate. I have never spent more than 50$ on electricity AND GAS. These people are crooks. If anyone finds a better company, please let me know. read more

This company jumped prices from $ 0.08 per kilowatt, to $0.21 per kilowatt due to "supply and demand" to an area (Marlboro, NY) with an average personal income of $37,000 per year. Mind you, we're in times where jobs and income are already hard to come by while inflation is on the rise. Not to mention, they are the only supplier to choose from. Where is Governor Hochul when you need her? It is such a shame that this company would do this in these trying times. 1st day as a customer. I move to dutchess County late memorial day 5/31. Woke up the next day without power before I got the chance to call and request new service. No one available to answer the phones ALL day because "everyone is training on a new system to provide better service". So I have no power & no water because my septic system runs off electricity. Drive 24 minutes to central hudson because I can't get anyone on the phone & they give me a paper application & apologize for the inconvenience. After 2 hours on the phone I'm finally able to request a call back which takes 1 hour after that. The best they can do is send someone over the next day by 430 pm. Now me & my family have to wait 24 hours without power, toilet, or water. And that's the best they can do. Great 1st day here :-/ read more

The recording you get when you call says they're committed to providing excellent service; clearly, they're also committed to lying through their teeth, as they provide about the worst customer service I've ever experienced and make zero effort toward rectifying that situation. And I don't know where to begin regarding their website. You're asked for your account number in order to log in, but if you enter your account number, the website says you've entered an invalid account number; turns out this is because You're expected to enter your account number minus several of the digits. There's no intelligent reason for this and no way for you to know it without giving up and calling them on the telephone to find out why the website is not accepting your account number. We had a major storm yesterday, 7/6/21, and our neighbor and ourselves had a line down and huge tree branches down. On the upside, CenHud was her today, the next day, to handle it. On the downside, the huge tree branch on the downed wire- they cut it off and dumped it onto my side of the fence, right onto my garden, ruining a number of plants! Simply hauling it away, or at least looking at WHERE the branch was going, would have avoided this problem. Last big storm it took them MONTHS to deal with another downed wire. Disappointed! Central Hudson was a tremendous company to work with until they got purchased by Fortis, a Canadian Company. Teams working the lines are still terrific, however, in house teams seem to be greatly weakened. The recent website conversation was an utter disaster preventing most customers from logging in. It was disheartening to find out Central Hudson's response was to blame customers when it was clearly their doing. From my experience, one out of two calls to the customer service line is dropped. Time of Use pricing schedules are so out of whack in order to pay 55% less off-peak I will pay 418% more on-peak, on the average, based on historical rates!!! read more

we had a tree limb come down and land on the corner of the neighbors roof and across power lines. the wonderful Norman came out to see what he could do so we wouldn't have to wait for someone to do it during the daylight hours ( and possibly days to weeks later ) he successfully brought the limb down with no damage! he went above and beyond his job duties and is very much appreciated by both myself and my neighbor. there needs to be more people out there like Norman!! thank you again!! read more

We had a wind storm on Sunday evening we did not arrive home until 11 to find no electricity. Utter darkness began calling ofcourse no one answers for over 40 minutes. All my Nieghborhood was with out power it said 14 homes in my Nieghborhood. But many more all over Dutchess. The next morning still no power and NO ONE working on problem, because my husband got up and drove around to locate the issue it was taped off with yellow tape but not a man in sight and I forgot to mention it's the hottest days of the whole summer 100 degrees and 100 percent humidity. Any way I continue to call to complain ALL DAY LONG! finally I call and get a hotel because they say we will not get power back for at least 2 more days. But who really knows.. I get a hotel and go to dinner and on my way home swing by my home to notice all my Nieghborhood is back up with power but not my house! I call central Hudson and the woman says they must have had an issue and "needed light" !?!!!!! Need light to see?? I said don't they have trucks with light????!!! I told her not a man working anymore and tape is gone I think they forgot to hook me up. My husband goes to investigate and they did forget because I'm the ONLY a person to actually run my power underground to the pole when we purchased our home so we would not have these problems ! With all the airborne wires hanging like a ugly snarl all around the house. And so they either where in a rush because it was dark when they fixed it (they had lights) or they where just incompetent. Needless to say it's the following day and still no power now when I call again they say "they must have forgotten to hook me up" they are not sure.but they will put it in as still no power. But still no men and I asked for someone to call me back and they said " we don't do that" we will send you a recording to your phone. WTH aid happening to this country no one cares about anyone or anything and they don't want to do there job and no follow through at all. This is a DISGRACE!! SHAME ON YOU PEOPLE!! NO ONE CARES!!! I have leased solar panels, and so I pay Tesla a monthly fee and Cen Hud bi monthly, a nominal fee only to be on the grid. This month I did not receive a bill, and there is a credit on my account, with no explanation. The CSR for my local Cen Hud had no answers for me and transferred me to Poughkeepsie number. I've now been on hold for 1 hour, with no one answering, and no indication of where I am in the queue. The contact email says it will take 4-5 business days for them to get back. This is unacceptable for any company. I understand a class action suit is being brought against them for astronomical winter fees. The worst possible power company you can use. If possible please choose literally any other company. First, they love to flicker the power, on then off then on then off, damaging electronics. Furthermore, they have quite possibly the worst customer service any company has ever had, the bot will scream at you for hours on end until some rude representative picks up the phone, oh, and if you don't have a 518 area code the chances of them hanging up are very high so good luck with that. Also, they knew my lease was coming to an end so they 'estimated' my power usage lower than it's ever been for 3 months straight, and then 2 months after I moved out they sent me a 200 dollar bill. Scam artists at their finest, and don't even bother trying to contact customer service for this, after an hour of waiting they'll send you to "the front desk" and then you'll wait for 4 hours (the bot never shuts up) then they'll just hang up on you.
