Seafood on Friday nights is very good. My wife enjoys the fish and chips and I had fish and chips and agree. My favorite though are the scallops. They come two ways but I like them fried. The batter is light. read more

Good bar food and reasonably priced. The seafood offerings on Friday are colossal and pure comfort. The lunchtime hours are a bit unpredictable during the week and the space can be reserved for private events like funeral receptions. In town on business and my wife and I tried this place out on the fly because it was close. Nice neighborhood tavern. Not your typical dark dingy place. We love the idea of this home town tavern. Been around for many years. Seeing lots of changes in the past year. Some not all good. Food not as good. My med/rare burger, very dry. Burger bun way to big for the patty. Saturday fried Fish was tasteless. Steak an cheese dry. Chicken sandwich dry and overcooked. Fries not edible. Few options on a Saturday afternoon menu. Prices seem out of line for the quality. Maybe that's why I see most people ordering drinks only. Service is lacking when busy. Got my order wrong and had to wait too long for it to be corrected. Very disappointed on this vist. Not sure I'd recommend the food. I hope they improve because atmosphere is fun. $$$ read more

Came here for lunch with a coworker on a Friday to take advantage of the seafood. The restaurant is small in size so for lunch it was fine and easy to find seating, but I could definitely see a wait here on the weekends. For meal started with the Home made fish chowder. It was a nice cup of chowder, with good chunks of fish, potato, etc. Then for the main course moved to Fish and Chips. I guess my only complaint is for the money there was only 1 fish fillet. Usually around these parts you would typically get 2 so it felt portion wise there was a little bit of skimp on the fish. As the fish went it was cooked well and overall made it more disappointed there wasn't more. read more

Would have given 5 stars if not for an experience with a waitress at the very end. My date misread the check amount and didn't put in enough for much of a tip- an honest mistake. The waitress confronted him about it, clearly (and understandably) upset about the lack of tip after good service. He tried to make it right immediately and was apologetic, but the waitress was still really weird about it. It was a genuine accident and we tried to fix it (she got her $ in the end). I really enjoyed my experience here until that happened and I'm now not sure that I'll come back here. read more

This is a great little dive bar with tons of charm and character. The bartender Becky was absolutely awesome friendly, quick, and made the whole experience even better. The service here is always fantastic. It's casual and low key - and the food is good (especially some of the newer vegetarian appetizers!) They always have live sports showing and music to keep things fun. The drinks are strong and the company is friendly! Awesome place. My friend and I were walking around Westborough looking for someplace to eat. We stumbled upon Central House. When we walked in, we were the only women. We were greeted by the bartender who was great. He didn't blink an eye when we ordered sparkling waters, 3 appetizers, and two salads. The food was Great. The service was perfect. We spent a very nice hour or so enjoying the ambience and food. If I ever come back to Westborough, I'll make it a point to return here. read more

We were there on a Friday night with a large-ish party (12) though we were happy to be split over two tables. There was a fairly long wait but we finally got two tables outside. The cons: Service was friendly but very slow and sloppy. Took about a half an hour to just get beers and sodas. We had to request napkins, cutlery, etc. And the kitchen was out of many things (we arrived around 7pm, but weren't seated until after 7:30) - they were out of fish and chips, out of lobster rolls, and out of chicken salad! The pros: The food, when it came, was quite good. Fried clam roll was delicious! Onion rings were excellent. Craft beer selection was small but well curated, with some fine local brews. read more

If didn't know Central House was there, you wouldn't find it. The sign is small and unassuming and the entrace(s) is(are) a little obscure. It's literally an apartment in a multifamily home, where the living room and maybe a bedroom have been combined to form the bar area. If you look into the kitchen, you can see rows and rows and rows of giant cans of I don't know what and I'm pretty sure I don't care. You're not coming here for the local farm-fresh foods, you're coming here for a beer or three, a game on TV, some good company and maybe something fried or grilled to eat. I've never had the food, so I can't judge on that. But the beer is cold and well priced, the service is friendly and prompt, and the clientele range from old boys who will chat you up to goth cheerleaders (I swear to GOD this happened). If you're having dinner in downtown Westborough, I can't think of a better place to pop in for an after dinner drink. I just really wish they'd put a fire in that big 'ole gorgeous fireplace. (PS. I am on the road a lot for work. I needed a quick lunch. I yelped and found this place. 7 sandwich options. The first 2 I ordered arent available. The bartender/waiter had his mask over his mouth, not his nose. Fail. I was there less than 30 minutes and he took it down to his neck EVERY time he talked, almost constantly. I was going to leave but my sandwich arrived. It was pretty good, but I couldn't enjoy as I was bothered by the lack of mask compliance. Sigh. read more

I really don't want to write this review because it will attract more competitors for the limited table seating on Fridays (Fish Fry Day). I just love their fish and chips, although I usually cannot finish the fries. This crispy meal is best ordered and eaten when seated inside. When I have picked it up for takeout, the fried food is soggy by the time I fight the 5 pm traffic in downtown Westborough on Friday afternoons. (I used to be able to do an end run using Fruit Street, but bridge repair has closed this route for at least the next 6 months.) The owner is very friendly and personable, even though we probably hurt his bottom line by being teetotalers eating in a bar. No matter; my lapsed-Catholic hubby and I have a standing Friday afternoon date to eat here! read more

I am new to the area, and super excited to make Central House a frequent spot to visit. Came in late on a Sunday, so the menu was pretty limited, but the sandwiches we ordered were awesome. This is the Local locale. We use the backroom for informal organizational meetings sometimes. Apart from that I make occasional appearances around holidays, 4th of July, Xmas etc. It's a pretty tight circle, so yeah you may get some looks if you stumble in. I've eaten here and while it wasn't L'Espalier quality, I enjoyed the grub. Possibly the towniest of townie bars in Westborough, but that's not a bad thing. I've lived and worked in the area for more than two years, but can't consider myself a local since they don't know me by name here. The bar isn't much to look at, basically just the first floor of a converted triple decker and you better like watching the local sports teams. There is food and it seemed like everyone was ordering the fish and chips the night I was there. There aren't many beer options, but they are surprisingly good. And cheap. Two taps of Cold Harbor (made just around the corner) and Clown Shoes Spacecake (a double IPA served in a pint glass for $6). Love this place! I moved to Westborough MA about 3 years ago, and my wife and I love going here. Typical small town bar, it's a "towny" bar! But the regulars are welcoming. The owner is extremely nice, his staff are awesome, and the food......Delicious! It's a small menu, but it's all good! They have specials during the year for the season. Lobster rolls in summer, and hearty soups and stews in the winter. I personally love their pastrami on rye! They have a WiFi jukebox which is fun, several TVs, music (bands) on most fri or sat nights. Good selection of beers and liquors. Local brewery on tap always, Coldharbor! It's not the biggest place so it can get crowded, but it makes feel like a fun place with friends all there hanging together having a good time! We have been going to Central House since we moved to Westborough in '05. Place was always a decent spot to grab a drink. But since Dan has taken over, the food, atmosphere, entertainment and selection of drinks has gotten so much better. I have now gone there seeking out their food on numerous occasions and have always been happy, which I never would have done previously. I am not a huge fan of fried clams, but realized the other night that it's because I have never had ones like these. I tried my friends on Fri night and they were ridiculously good and fresh tasting! I will definitely be ordering them next time we are there. Great job managing this place guys! read more
