Lauderdale and towing an Airstream Trailer, through Pennsylvania, upstate NY and upto the Accadia National Park, before heading down to CapeCod, we were in danger of having a very bad experience, either on the highway, or with an unscrupulous mechanic. We frist contacted the manufacturer of the shocks in California. We determined that the shocks were covered by their warranty but labor was not covered since there were no authorized dealers in the NE US. Meanwhile we started Googling suspension shops, mechanics shops etc., in the Bar Harbor area while traveling from the Adirondacks. We spoke with Mike at Glidden in Ellsworth and hooked him up with the specialists in California who manufactured the shocks. The folks at Glidden spent time on the phone with the manufacturer, took overnight delivery of the replacement shocks and were ready to go as we pulled into Glidden's shop in Ellsworth. They promised the truck back to us inside of a couple of hours, gave us a ride to a nearby laundromat so we could get some washing done, pointed to a nearby pizza resturaunt for lunch and set about their work. They were done in less than 90 minutes, charged us only $130, boxed up the old shocks for shipping and sent us on our way. We were vulnerable to unscrupulous business practices but the folks at Glidden were absolutley honest, professional and happy to have our business. As travelers, far from home, we could not have been happier!

Do NOT Trust Bernache Autobody…read more I honestly don't even know where to start with how bad my experience was with Bernache Autobody. It's been almost six months since I took my truck there for repairs after hitting a deer, and I'm still finding issues that they caused. In fact, they've caused more damage to my truck than the deer did! Here's the situation: I hit a deer while driving at 40 mph. The only damage was a dented front bumper and some broken plastic in the grill. I continued driving my truck for weeks after, and then went through my insurance to get it repaired at Bernache. After about three weeks, I finally got my truck back--and it was an absolute disaster. The bumper was crooked, they used zip ties to fasten the wheel wells, the headlight wiring was just hanging underneath the truck, the fog lights were crooked and nonfunctional, and there were missing bolts and nuts throughout the front of the truck. This was not professional work; it looked like a child had put it together. Naturally, I sent the truck back. After another week, I got it back, and the problems only got worse. The headlights were now full of water (they claimed it was because the insurance provided cheap ones) and the daytime running lights were flickering. To top it off, my truck threw an engine code related to the radiator louver--a part they had touched. So, back to the shop it went. ....My truck is relatively new and had been in immaculate condition before the collision. After the third time I got it back, I realized they had replaced several front grill pieces with cheap aftermarket parts, which weren't even damaged in the collision. It felt like they were just trying to cut corners at every turn. Frankly, I feel like they're scamming people. The work they did is subpar at best, and I can't imagine how many other customers have left that shop thinking their vehicles were repaired by professionals, only to find out they were hastily thrown together with zip ties and inferior parts. I would not trust Bernache Autobody with any vehicle. If you care about your car or truck, go somewhere else.

From the owner: How do I get an estimate? Some insurance companies want you to visit their drive-in claims center…read morebefore bringing your car to the collision repair center. You can do this, or you may leave your car at our location and ask the insurance company to inspect the car here. Do I need an appointment for an estimate? Walk-ins are welcome, although sometimes it is best to call ahead of time so we can advise you of the process. What do I need for a collision repair estimate? All you need is your car, insurance card, and contact information. What if my insurance company wants me to go to another shop? You have the right to go to the shop of your choice. Your insurance company cannot require you to go to a particular shop. They may tell you they wont cover the work, but we have stood behind our repairs since 1985. Estimates may vary - why? Differences in collision repair estimates are common. A lower estimate may not include all necessary work. In the process of fixing the damage caused by the collision, additional auto body repair issues may be revealed. If your not sure why one estimate is different from the other please ask us. Which shop should I choose? a shop like Conrad's with state-of-the-art repair equipment and certified (ASE, I-Car) technicians. Should I accept the insurance check, and if I do, will additional work be covered? Yes. We will work with the insurance company on any supplements (work that is accident related) and will bill them directly if need be...
