Right before…read moreThanksgiving 2023, my parents moved in with me and my family after my father had a triple bypass surgery. While he was recovering, my mother was later diagnosed with dementia. My husband and I quickly became overwhelmed with juggling our four school-aged kids with the differing needs of my elderly parents. We shared these challenges with Czarina and with her encouragement and help, she introduced us to Aurora, one of her amazing caregivers. Aurora was meant to assist with caring for my mom. Aurora became our angel at home for the two days/nights she was with us. As a very experienced caregiver, she gave us a brief reprieve in the middle of the week which helped us spend time alone with our kids since we knew my parents were being well cared for at home. Aurora is warm, patient, and loving. She took such good care of my mom and I will be eternally grateful for that. It was a plus that Aurora was a great cook and regularly cleaned my parents' room and did their laundry. Because she spoke Tagalog, I could hear my mom and her talking for hours during the day. She prepared my parents meals, cleaned up after them, bathed her and helped her in the bathroom. She even went with my mom to the hair salon, and fixed my mom's hair beautifully after her baths. There came a point when my parents decided to move into a senior community. Czarina was there again to help us. She called around to see what places had openings, walked us through the process of obtaining the necessary forms from Kaiser (and even called the doctor to help us get it signed), and gave us an idea of what to expect in those settings. This was my family's first experience with a caregiver and searching for a senior home. We were definitely more than satisfied with Czarina's guidance, as well as Aurora's kindness and gentle care for our mom. Thank you Premier Angels! Premier Homecare Angels representative, Tedd, was very responsive, called me right away that same evening regarding my needs and explained everything I needed to know. They put me at ease and assured me just by sharing their knowledge of the whole process and empathy towards the whole situation. They made it simple! Next step was for someone to come into my aunts home to assess and ensure they needs I had described to them that we were looking for was accurate and to find a caregiver match with both my uncle and aunt. They were so flexible and when I scheduled the visit Tedd came out himself to assess on a Saturday, a few days after my initial call. That's great as we were looking to start the in home care services asap! Wow we were so impressed by his attentiveness, candor and putting my aunt and uncle as ease when we met. Long story short, we decided to move forward with Premier Homecare Angels. Tedd found a match for us with our care needs and schedule and sent someone out the following week! Great service, communication and flexible/willing to work with the client! Great all around! Unfortunately, my aunt/uncle are relocating to Arizona soon so this is a short term assignment but I wouldn't hesitate to reach out to them again if I ever need any in home care services!

However, before I continue to move forward, it is essential that I emphasize that this writer (myself) has not been the recipient of any incentives, promises, enticements nor has I been subjected or subjugated to any form of threats or any act of coercion by anyone in an effort to induce or compel me to falsify this commentary that's at hand. In all reality on the contrary, it has been very difficult for me on my own volition to try and the find the adequate words that can actually reflect and project the magnitude of the level of professional care that I have continuously and has endlessly received here. Which started from the very first day that I was admitted into this very prestigious facility when I was half dead. McClure has literally and figuratively brought me back to life from the threshold of death when I was ready to give up and succumb to the severe illness that I was afflicted with doing that period of time. However, the qualitative care and treatment that has been bestowed upon me has enabled me to be elevated from the depths of bad health and adversity, back to the paramount of excellent existence and a sound physical disposition that I once knew. (Thanks McClure for your performance.) I am upset about what some of those disgruntled individuals posted about this Rehab Center it was totally, completely and absolutely untrue, unfair and do not have any base in reality far as I am concern, I have not witness any of those unfounded accusations and fabrications that has been written about McClure. Matter of fact, if that type of sub standard treatment was the order of the day here at some point, I would have been long gone from this place many months ago, which I have been housed here for more than a year and I have cherished every minute of it indeed. So what do that tell the reader (meaning you) about this establishment? In a closing remark, keep up the good work McClure because we all here send the organization and your duty bound team of staff a firm salute which is nothing more but a symbol of our never ending heart felt respect and profound appreciation for all the things that you have done and no doubt will continue to do. We wanted a place that would help him recover, but more importantly, a place where he would be treated with kindness. This facility exceeded every expectation we had. The therapy team is truly remarkable. During his first few days, he was convinced he wasn't making any progress and kept saying he just wanted to go back to bed after therapy. One of his therapists smiled and said, "Give me ten more minutes, then you can tell me if you still feel the same." Those ten minutes turned into one of his best therapy sessions. By the end, he had accomplished something he hadn't been able to do since leaving the hospital, and I remember the therapist high fiving him with so much joy. That simple moment completely changed his outlook, and from then on, he looked forward to therapy instead of dreading it. The nurses and CNAs were just as incredible. One afternoon we arrived to visit and found my brother laughing with a CNA while they were walking the hallway together. She wasn't rushing him or making him feel like another task on her list. She was encouraging him, and celebrating every few steps he took. Seeing someone take that extra time to make him feel comfortable and confident meant so much to our family. Every nurse we met was attentive, compassionate, and always willing to answer our questions without making us feel like we were interrupting. The facility itself is absolutely beautiful. Everything was spotless every time we visited, and the atmosphere felt peaceful and welcoming. It never felt like a place where people simply recovered, it felt like a place where people were genuinely cared for. My brother also enjoyed getting out of his room for activities and often mentioned how the food was delicious and would send compliments to the chef ! It was nice knowing he had things to look forward to outside of therapy. Thank you to every therapist, nurse, CNA, and staff member who helped my brother during his recovery. Your patience, encouragement, and compassion made a difficult time so much easier for all of us. If I ever have a loved one who needs rehabilitation in the future, this is the first place I would recommend.

I believe John D's review of Mercy is poorly written and gives the wrong impression of Mercy…read more Mercy is a non-denominational, full service facility, with a secure campus that has 24/7 Reception, beautifully landscaped gardens, and every service a resident could want: three nutritious meals every day; a variety of daily activities and special events; housekeeping service; 24/7 floor staff for night or day emergencies. Mercy is run by the non-profit Eldercare Alliance. They're associated with the four AlmaVia facilities in the Bay Area. We needed a facility for my 85-yr old MIL who is physically healthy, but has a mild-to-moderate case of dementia. We wanted a full-service facility so that as she declined, we would not be forced to move her somewhere else (disruption is highly stressful for dementia patients). My MIL is in now in Asst. Living. Although reluctant (as many elderly are) to make "the move" out of our home, she quickly adjusted and in less than a month's time was telling her friends she absolutely loves it at Mercy. She loves how caring and friendly all the staff is, and how quick everyone was to learn her name. She loves the reassurance that she will be escorted to and from her bath, so that she need never worry about falling. She enjoys the food, which is quite good (we've eaten there with her a number of times). She appreciates the choice of activities and for the first time since being widowed, is making new friends, because Mercy provides a supportive sense of community for its residents. Unlike John D., we investigated seven different senior facilities nearby our home. There are many different types, but we needed a full service facility with a Memory Care unit. But what makes one facility different from another is the staff. And Mercy's staff is VERY, VERY GOOD - at all levels! There were some minor issues at first because moving in and getting her settled was complex; but Mercy was always responsive and showed themselves willing to go that "extra mile" for my MIL's comfort. We have visited elderly friends at other (even more expensive) facilities where the night staff was sullen and uninterested when a resident comes to ask a question. We have had many interactions with Mercy staff and all have been 100% positive. We are convinced that Mercy was the right choice. They are a caring, compassionate, and highly professional care facility. Oakland seniors are lucky to have Mercy in our city! (Note: edited June 2014 to reflect that Salem is being sold to finance an expansion of Mercy's campus to provide additional Memory Care units. Salem is being purchased by a for-profit corporation, similar to Sunrise Living and AgeSong.)

The property and grounds are consistently clean and well maintained, and every staff member I've interacted with has been kind and professional.
