It was so serene and peaceful- the perfect spot to rest if you need some peace and quiet. We went on a weekday afternoon and there was only one other person there. The views are absolutely stunning. They have a few benches to sit down, but I would say bring a small blanket to lie down on the grass next to the water. We parked right across the street in the residential area. I would assume this place gets really busy on the weekends and parking might be tough. It's super worth a visit, even if you can only stop by for a minute to take in the views!

We plopped down a blanket by the path under a palm tree, about 10 feet from the water. The weather was perfect. There was a steady flow of people on bikes, kayaks and paddle boards. We enjoyed it not being crowded at all. It was almost perfect. The only con was there were lots of prickly spiky seed pods and fire red ants in the sand. We moved the blanket but we wanted to be in the shade. We will come back when it's cooler and settle down closer to the water.

Built with probably age 7+ in mind but my toddler was able to enjoy everything easily. The slides were metal but it didn't burn anyone going down. I was happy there was a good amount of shade! Bring your own food and snacks. Prices are ridiculous. The ice cream truck was $6 for an ice cream sandwich. Prices are not posted and I didn't have the heart to say nevermind and disappoint the kiddos. Great park!

This is more based on the dog park that's on the same lot as the Children's Park. This one uses…read moreturf, which i find has it's benefits on the days after a rainstorm since it doesn't get muddy. There are four big pine trees with separate retaining walls around three of them for owners to sit down. With it being so close to the bay, there's often a nice breeze that goes through the park. There's no divide between small dogs and big dogs, so it's best to just keep an eye on your dog, and many owners around here are usually respectful. The street parking immediately adjacent to the park is free, however, it has a limit of 30 minutes, and the parking meter workers are strict on it if they're around. I bring my dog here around lunch time because those who live/ work in the area tend to bring their dogs during their break time and my dog gets his socialization time. They close 8am-11am MWF for maintenance/ cleaning. Currently, both gates are broken so it's not as secure as it should be, and who knows when the city will actually fix it. There're a few agility structures and a water dispenser. The children's park itself looks pretty cool for kids with a lot of structures with slides and swings. There's also another separate area with fixed exercise equipment that looks well- maintained. The water feature in the park is a water feature, not a pool.

Nobody from Coronado refers to this park as Mathewson Park. We call it "Pomona" park…read more This was the best park for those kids growing up on the East Side of Coronado. Its gentle sloping sidewalk was perfect for skating or biking. The old corkscrew slide provided endless hours of entertainment ( as long as your brought your own wax paper). The large grass field was perfect for games of touch-football. The large palm tree palms were perfect for grabbing and swinging around.. The park hasn't changed much sine then, though they did get rid of the "unsafe" slide years ago. I guess the only major difference is all the weird traffic control the city installed along Pomona which is so bizarre. Safer? maybe.. Now my kids always want to play at Pomona park when we visit family... Its so nice to see that.

There's plenty of parking, the bathrooms are very clean and has contactless soap, and high speed hand dryer. The grass area is well maintained. There's a small stretch of beach facing the bay with very calm waters for people to swim in. There's was a few Stand up paddle boarders and kayakers in the water. Easy to launch kayaks and SUP from the beach into the water. Very cute little park, clean and well maintained. Highly recommend.

We were here in May of 2025, and we got so burned...in that my husband purchased the full umbrella/lounge set ($150+??), and yet we could barely enjoy it because it was too cold and windy lol! Well, this time we picked the right weather! We actually got to enjoy lounging this time...and even dipped in the water. Here's a warning though. No matter how great the weather, the Pacific waters are frickin' cold...so you may wanna pack in a surf shirt like I did. As much as I love the La Jolla Beach, I felt this beach was a whole another level of pristine. The sands were whiter, and glittery...and the vibe was just SO relaxing! I felt much of that was due to the fact that the sandy areas were SO vast...and you had to walk a bit to the waters (which I didn't mind). Also speaking of sand, it was so lush, walking on them felt like walking on air! PERFECT beach walking scene! I absolutely loved this beautiful, pristine beach...maybe even more so than Sarasota's? Here's the catch though. Because of its ties to the Coronado Hotel, which is quite pricey all around, their drinks are ridiculously expensive. I got this cocktail (in a SMALL, flimsy plastic cup!) from their bar, and it costed over 20 bucks! Wasn't even that strong. In any case, this IS the beach for the celebrities...and I can see why. The soft, glittery sand, the vast space, the serenity, etc.etc. Simply WOW.

The area reminds me of a super mini Newport Beach... houses with their own docks parking their yachts and their own yacht club. Adjoining them is the Lowes Hotel and Resort (not a cheap place to vacation either). Most people will drive by the place assuming it's only for this community. They have a normal park, lots of green spaces mostly occupied by soccer teams and soccer moms, kids playground, there are tennis courts too. I haven't played on their courts as I usually stay at my tennis clubs courts but it appears it's first come first served and often occupied by the neighborhood locals. Different SD feels here. I like it. Just away from everything. We boated out of the Coronado Cays Marina and toward SD harbor for a day out drinking, eating, and boating around the Harbor. Fun times. The Marina is much quieter than other marinas I've been too. Less packed less traffic less of everything and I just love it that way.
