Cuvier Park starts from Cuvier St and Coast Bl in La Jolla, it's between La Jolla Cove and Coast Walk Trail. Street parking only is a pain in the tush. The best features about this park is the green grassy lawn on the bluff cliff side with some bench seating that lets you sit and just enjoy the spectacular ocean views, feel the ocean breeze, as if you're watching a movie because it's so picturesque. My pup and I enjoy this little park and have met with other locals who frequent and walk their pooches. On weekends, this area gets crowded. People use this park to have gatherings, picnics and lately professional photo spots. I've seen commercially created staged floral arrangements with a photographer ready to Take your pics for a fee...I've seen these people set their staging on the bluff and on the beach, and it's tacky, it takes away from the natural wonder of the coast and beach view. These stage photo obstructions are attractive nuisances for kids and dogs. I've seen kids and dogs running around these things, and one day, there will be an injury and a lawsuit. The city really need to regulate these commercial profiteers enforce and ticket them. Love this park, but these tacky set ups have got to go! Picture a perfect 75 degree sunny day with a light sea breeze and the taste the salt in the air. You can hear the barking of nearby Sea Lions and a fleet of brown pelicans glides overhead. The beach is so pretty and quiet compared to the other end of the beach that ends at Scripps Park. There is always plenty of parking if you need to park. We walk to it almost every day because it is a special little spot to see boats, sea life, kayaks, and weddings! It's a close walk to downtown for your coffee. There are benches nearby also. We had our wedding ceremony here in September 2023 so my review is focused on that. It isn't an ideal venue for everyone, but we love the views and didn't mind the rest. Pros You don't need alot of decor or florals. The natural beauty is stunning. If you have time, walk around and take photos. For the best group photo, have your photographer take it from above (street level). Issues to consider: It's quieter than the rest of La Jolla, and people were respectful. But they will watch and take photos. There's no bathroom nearby. We had a limo bus with a restroom so that wasn't an issue. Would highly recommend SD charters if you're looking. Consider a microphone/sound amp system. The sound of waves, cars, etc. will make it hard for guests to hear you. We had 40 guests, and that even felt a bit cramped with all our vendors, chairs, equipment. So definitely wouldn't recommend for larger groups. Provide shade, a cooler with water bottles. We visited many venues before deciding that Cuvier Park was the right location for our wedding ceremony. We wanted an outdoor ceremony by the water and this location was perfect because it had an awesome view of the ocean, is located in one of our favorite spots (La Jolla), was inexpensive ($250 for the permit at the time), accommodated the right amount of guests (permit allows 40 people), and not at street level (although public, onlookers would only be seen from above and I didn't even notice them that day). With this location, we had to hire a rental company for ceremony chairs and audio, stayed at Scripps Inn since it is right across the street, and made sure that our guests were aware of the 2 hour parking limit. Our ceremony wasn't too long though and since our wedding was in November and it rained on our wedding day, there weren't as many people down in La Jolla. I'd definitely recommend the park for a wedding ceremony. read more

AMAZING spot for a wedding and breathtaking view! There are two things about this venue that make it perfect. First, it offers an un-obstructed view of the incredibly blue water and surf. Second, because it's lower than the sidewalk/street no looky lous or tourists will find their way into your wedding photos :) I recommend a sound system with the bride/groom being mic'd. The sound of the waves and tourists at street level make it very difficult to hear. The grass holds way more chairs (white folding) than they say it does. read more

Married here back in August 2007...was the most beautiful setting for our casual, beachy wedding! Was tough to find at first, since it's below street level... we finally found it when atop a balcony at the Museum of Art across the street! Our permit fee back then was $250 as well. I stayed/got ready at the Scripps Inn (across the street as well), which was perfect when it was time to start walking down 'the aisle'. Many people who see my ceremony pics often think we were married in Hawaii... La Jolla beaches are the prettiest in SD for sure! Great spot for a wedding, general photo taking, a picnic, a yoga group (as I saw last night there!), or even a nap. The view is gorg, and the sound of the ocean is so peaceful. read more

Just south of the Cove Cuvier Park is nice and very well kept. Even the squirrels are pleased. What's so funny about them is that they creep like Tom Cruise on "Mission Impossible 3" it was so hilarious. These squirrels are everywhere, almost would think of it as a infestation of Rocky and Bullwinkle but there is no Moose. If there was I don't think I would have seen the little guys...LOL! One of my favorite places! You can stop by most weekends to watch a wedding. Or, you can be like me, and actually get married there. My hubby even posted a pic from our day on his review. Everything about this spot is perfect, and it's very reasonable to reserve the park for the day. $250 I think. Downside is that you are limited to 40 guests and there is no alcohol consumption on site. So, receptions must be held elsewhere. Are you considering getting married here? You would think since this is a area where they make revenue from all the weddings that they would keep it nice. Even with the drought they should still keep it watered. Went to a wedding ceremony here yesterday and thought it a nice little place for a ceremony. The lowered terrain shielded the guests from too much breeze, but it got a bit warm for a minute after having stood on the street above getting wind blown before the ceremony started. We had never been to the "wedding bowl" before, so had we not been fortunate enough to find a parking spot about a block and a half away that gave us a view of the location, I'm not sure we would have found it! This place would do well for guests to have a small sign near the stairs or the foot path that simply reads the park name. As with any public space you risk what kind of knucklehead might walk by and interrupt the occasion. BEFORE the ceremony started (thank goodness) some guys got into a bit of a tiff and one is in the vegetation (petting a dog?) and the other is on the sidewalk above YELLING "That's my dog bro, get away from him". The yelling was unnecessary, and as I said, thankfully before the nuptials. read more

This is an incredible spot for a wedding with an unbelievable view! We used Cuvier Park Wedding Bowl for our Ceremony site. Our reception site was The Loft @UCSD and our caterer was the amazing Erin Campbell and her team from Zanzibar Café. I have reviewed them both also on this website so this review is just for the Wedding Bowl in La Jolla, at Cuvier Park. We had about 90 people there at the bowl and although they say 40, we had 90 with chairs and no problems. It was a beautiful ceremony site. Exactly what we wanted and since rental is through the county, it was very reasonable, about $300 but we did book a year in advance and got the last weekend day available. You can book this site online too. We had no electric so the Rabbi had to speak up and the musician had to sing a little louder but the sight of the ocean and sky in the backdrop, was breathtaking for all. We were married here this past weekend and had a very pleasant experience at the Wedding Bowl. The backdrop is amazing, the weather was perfect and overall I absolutely recommend this venue for anyone wanting a memorable waterside wedding. The lack of one star is for the following and I hope that if you're looking into Cuvier Park for your event, this will help you with your decision: the area has not been maintained over the years, for a city park that brings in endless revenue from weddings, they should invest in re-turfing the area often. I would even suggest fake turf there. The grass was very spotty and there was mud trails from all the "heels" and walking. The flowers in the rear of the park are all dead and not maintained. That being said, we still had some epic photos taken and wouldn't have chosen any other venue. Truly a dream wedding. There are horror stories about booking the wedding bowl, how it's hardly ever available, etc... my experience was great; I walked into the city parks department and I requested the date we wanted... it was available so I booked and paid my fee. Easy in and out process. Also FYI, you will have many onlookers that will stop and take photos of your wedding... this is a very public spot. This however did not bother us at all! They will not be in your photos and honestly, it's flattering to see so many people take joy in our event. I hope others enjoy the park as much as we did, it was such a memorable event! read more
