Cuvier Park is one of the most popular oceanfront wedding locations in all of San Diego. There's a designated area within the park called 'The Wedding Bowl' and that is where all weddings are held. The Wedding Bowl is located behind the Museum of Contemporary Art in La Jolla. [Parking]: Parking in the area is limited with most of free street parking restricted to 2-hour time limits. The only block offering 4-hour street parking is in front of the La Jolla Recreation Center on Prospect Street. After 6 PM, there are no time limits on street parking. [Permit]: The site is permitted for weddings but not for receptions. However, the Museum of Contemporary Art in La Jolla offers reception venues (https://mcasd.org/page/rentals). Only one wedding permit is issued per day and allowing up to four hours for the ceremony including setup and breakdown. Permit fees are approximately $200. Note that no restrooms are available and the maximum capacity is 40 people. For permits, you can either contact the Permit Center at (619) 235-1169 or have your wedding coordinator handle the process for you. [Conclusion]: This is the perfect spot for couples seeking an outdoor, intimate, and semi-private location with breathtaking ocean views.
Cuvier Park is unreal. You'll find pristine little area of grass to sit and enjoy the amazing views of the La Jolla coast. Thinking about having a picnic? This is the place to do it.
Cuvier Park is a small park located on Coast Boulevard in La Jolla. Located across the street from the San Diego Museum of Contemporary Art, the park itself is below street level at the water's edge. But there are two picnic tables at street level, which is where we met friends recently for a holiday brunch. Street parking only. In fact, this is one of our favorite spots to park, have a picnic, and watch the water ... or sunset.
Got married here June 2021, loved being right on the water! Wish the grass wasn't mostly yellow but cant control that. Rented it for a few hours through the city and then had reception up at Cuvier Club. Love La Jolla and is our home, our guests loved visiting and exploring downtown La Jolla.
I had a beautiful Covid-19 wedding at this location. We had 20 people in attendance and it was truly beautiful. The park staff were accommodating and the process was easy and inexpensive.
We visited many venues before deciding that Cuvier Park was the right location for our wedding ceremony. We wanted an outdoor ceremony by the water and this location was perfect because it had an awesome view of the ocean, is located in one of our favorite spots (La Jolla), was inexpensive ($250 for the permit at the time), accommodated the right amount of guests (permit allows 40 people), and not at street level (although public, onlookers would only be seen from above and I didn't even notice them that day). With this location, we had to hire a rental company for ceremony chairs and audio, stayed at Scripps Inn since it is right across the street, and made sure that our guests were aware of the 2 hour parking limit. Our ceremony wasn't too long though and since our wedding was in November and it rained on our wedding day, there weren't as many people down in La Jolla. I'd definitely recommend the park for a wedding ceremony.
I paid under $200 for a park permit to host my wedding ceremony in this amazing location! The Cuvier Club sits right above it (4 min walk) for an easy transition into a reception. Cuvier Club was able to provide chairs for a good price and their florists did the arch florals.
Married here back in August 2007...was the most beautiful setting for our casual, beachy wedding! Was tough to find at first, since it's below street level... we finally found it when atop a balcony at the Museum of Art across the street! Our permit fee back then was $250 as well. I stayed/got ready at the Scripps Inn (across the street as well), which was perfect when it was time to start walking down 'the aisle'. Many people who see my ceremony pics often think we were married in Hawaii... La Jolla beaches are the prettiest in SD for sure! Great spot for a wedding, general photo taking, a picnic, a yoga group (as I saw last night there!), or even a nap. The view is gorg, and the sound of the ocean is so peaceful.
I cannot think of an ugly beach in La Jolla or most of SoCal. This one is also very beautiful with great photo spots as well as the default beautiful scenery. Lots of weddings happen here at the "Wedding Bowl". I especially enjoy the different colors of the ocean that is visible from this corner.
Beautiful area - perfect for a long walk, picnic or just people watching. Also a perfect location for a wedding ceremony.
Nice place...Relaxing....I was just passing by right before the sunset and I stopped for 15-20 minutes. It was worth it. Kind of hard to find a parking spot but if you find one..... Make sure your there before sunset
Just south of the Cove Cuvier Park is nice and very well kept. Even the squirrels are pleased. What's so funny about them is that they creep like Tom Cruise on "Mission Impossible 3" it was so hilarious. These squirrels are everywhere, almost would think of it as a infestation of Rocky and Bullwinkle but there is no Moose. If there was I don't think I would have seen the little guys...LOL! Even more beautiful then sunset cliffs... This would be a good days getaway. Actually this will be good on any day.
Cuvier Park starts from Cuvier St and Coast Bl in La Jolla, it's between La Jolla Cove and Coast Walk Trail. Street parking only is a pain in the tush. The best features about this park is the green grassy lawn on the bluff cliff side with some bench seating that lets you sit and just enjoy the spectacular ocean views, feel the ocean breeze, as if you're watching a movie because it's so picturesque. My pup and I enjoy this little park and have met with other locals who frequent and walk their pooches. On weekends, this area gets crowded. People use this park to have gatherings, picnics and lately professional photo spots. I've seen commercially created staged floral arrangements with a photographer ready to Take your pics for a fee...I've seen these people set their staging on the bluff and on the beach, and it's tacky, it takes away from the natural wonder of the coast and beach view. These stage photo obstructions are attractive nuisances for kids and dogs. I've seen kids and dogs running around these things, and one day, there will be an injury and a lawsuit. The city really need to regulate these commercial profiteers enforce and ticket them. Love this park, but these tacky set ups have got to go! When your ocean views aren't obscured by distractions Cuvier Park is wondrous and worth a visit. Recommend read more
Picture a perfect 75 degree sunny day with a light sea breeze and the taste the salt in the air. You can hear the barking of nearby Sea Lions and a fleet of brown pelicans glides overhead. The waves crash against the cliffs and you can see all shades of turquoise shimmering in the Pacific. Kids and their parents are giggling and having fun inspecting the tide pools below. Then you notice a glowing bride stepping out of a limousine on her way to be married at the Wedding Bowl. You close your eyes, and you revel in the warmth of the sunlight gently beaming on your face. For a moment, you're not sure if you're dreaming because it is just so beautiful. Then you slowly open your eyes and exhale because it's real! You check your watch and realize that you only have 15 minutes to get to your interview in town. Nearly 10 years later, you've been with your employer for nearly a decade, and Cuvier Park is only minutes away. This beautiful location has become the place that brings you (and your dog) tremendous peace and joy. This petite park is south of some of the more popular areas so it tends not to be as crowded as the children's pool and the cove. (There is a good amount of parking, but keep in mind that it can get crowded on weekends.) From locals exercising to tourists taking photos and smiling to bougie picnic setups on the grass to sniffalot pups enjoying themselves... there's room for all to peacefully enjoy the incredible view at beautiful Cuvier Park. read more
A small park with stunning view with perfect location for small gathering , event, walk. Quiet and clean and does not smell unlike the area closer to the cove and seals which smells badly. Love it. The best spot They call it the wedding ball Always there is a bride there so fun to watch Just a note for a gathering u will need a city permit - small fee and should be two weeks in advance. Parking was not bad on Sunday. It may take few minutes read more

They show all these pretty pictures from years back. The city should be a shame, they don't water the wedding bowl area. It's nothing but dead grass. You would think since this is a area where they make revenue from all the weddings that they would keep it nice. Even with the drought they should still keep it watered. The grass up at the top near the picnic table is well watered. read more

I filmed a wedding ceremony here. This park is somewhat hidden which is to a bide and groom's advantage. If you were walking down the sidewalk you just might miss it. This is an incredible spot for a wedding with an unbelievable view! The park offers an un-obstructed view of the ocean which provide a great backdrop for the ceremony and a perfect place to take photos / video afterwards. jfvideography read more

For those of us lucky enough to call San DIego home, this is a must visit on the regular! For the even fewer of us that get to call La Jolla our work area...it's a great, relaxing place to have lunch! Pull up a bench, watch the fat little squirrel-looking things and watch the waves. nice! read more

If you've ever dreamed of an outdoor wedding with breathtaking views of the ocean, this would be the place. It's not completely secluded, as you can have onlookers from above but in the lower grassy area (street level) where the ceremony is held they won't be in your photos. It's also very affordably priced. Just be sure to book early, like a year in advance. read more

Ask the Community - Cuvier Park
Can we rent this place for a baby shower party? Can we bring food and drinks? And how much is the permit we need to pay nowadays?
See https://www.sandiego.gov/park-and-recreation/parks/rules for City of San Diego Park Rules & Regulations.
Can you smell the seals here like you can in other parts of La Jolla? Thinking of having our wedding here, but I'm worried about the smell.
No smells here :)
