A beautiful park with a perfect view. Great place to tan, read a book, have a picnic, etc.it can get crowded but pick a nice Tuesday morning and you're good! It can get a little chilly from the breeze!

5 stars for Calumet Park. This is a La Jolla park for locals to catch quite possibly the most serene sunset in San Diego.

La Jolla, prime real estate, I was pleasantly surprised by this small patch of green overlooking the ocean. A perfect spot for a picnic with benches. No shade so get ready to enjoy the sun. A trail leads down to a rocky shore. Free street parking in a residential section.

What's not to say about this little gem in bird rock area? I love that is rather private and not many people know or go here. There is a small patch of grass, so if you want to have a picnic, you may. There are benches, so if you want to sit and ponder the meaning of life as the waves roll in, you may. The grass area allowed for some game play if you so desire...I've seen small soccer games for kids and other games, too. Mostly, I love his place because it's where I got married exactly a year ago and it's absolutely perfect. It was a perfect day and there was perfect weather. Since it is a public park, people will pass by and may get in the way for some pictures...but overall, everyone was respectful and our wedding turned out perfect. Definitely cannot complain about that backdrop!! I'd recommend the park for a wedding, a sunset (doing that this evening to commemorate our wedding) or a picnic!

Anywhere that involves the beach and I'm in. Jump in, let go!!! There's swimming & surfing here, and plenty of beauty and rocky shores to ponder. Took a short rib empanada from Papa Luna's and walked around and just enjoyed the sounds all around us. Pure bliss... There's no place like home;)

Beautiful park in the middle of suburban Bird Rock. It's just the right size to throw a football, toss a frisbee or have a picnic. It's in a very quiet area, so a perfect place to relax and enjoy the gorgeous ocean views. Also, pelicans are constantly flying by, so you can catch some unique wildlife as well.

This is a really small park in the community of Bird Rock. The day my bf and I went, we saw a lot of dogs playing on the grass off leash. There's plenty of street parking and the view of the Pacific ocean is just spectacular. There are many benches that face the ocean and it's the perfect spot to enjoy the sunset! Apparently, this park is a very popular place for weddings. You do need to get a permit though and it's good for up to 80 people. There's a popular surf spot down below called Rock Pile. We went on a chilly day so we only saw a lone surfer out there and even he came out of the water pretty quickly! Supposedly, there are no food or drinks allowed, but we saw a party getting ready to BBQ with a mini grill. It's a really great park for the people lucky enough to live in that neighborhood to stroll on down and enjoy the scenery. The sunset we caught was beautiful even though we didn't see the green flash. ;)

Calumet Park so close to my condo and possibly the best place to watch the sunset in Bird Rock, La Jolla, San Diego... this park is set on the cliffs of Bird Rock. It has a beautiful lawn that dogs love to run and play on, benches to sit on and enjoy the scenery. Yoga classes at sunset, weddings at sunset, happy dogs happy people it all happens here.

One of my favorite spots in San Diego because it's not crowded! Little known, in the middle of a quiet neighborhood, this park is great to just sit on a bench and watch the waves and listen to the sounds of the ocean. Part of me wishes there was no Yelp listing for this place so it'll stay our little secret heaven.

We paid for parking right in front of the Spanish Art Village and paid $10 for 4 hours. Spanish Art Village was beautiful. If you buy something, it goes directly to the artist whose studio you're in. The artists were sitting quietly and would talk to you about their art pieces and tell you a little about themselves. Everything in there was so cool. I was especially intrigued by the artist in Studio 21, he had these incredible three part paintings he does by hand and I've never felt so much emotion before by an art piece. I really wish I had the money for them because I really would've taken them home with me ;( The botanical building was stunning, it wasn't as big as I thought it would be but definitely beautiful! We also ended up visiting the Timken Art museum and the PostSecrets and Cannibalism exhibits within the last 15 minutes of them being open. Wish we got there earlier so we didn't have to speed through them, but staff was still really nice and everything was so interesting to look at! We went to Panama 66 for a quick drink and bite afterward. We didn't even get to explore the rest of it because the entire park is so expansive, but we will definitely be coming back to visit the rest. It's definitely a must for tourists, but I just know I'd be here every day lying in the grass and reading if I lived here!

Our driver was nice enough to give us a short tour on the way, which was a nice touch. We ended up seeing the Botanical Building and lily pond area, and both were lovely and picturesque. I honestly felt like I was in Europe with the architecture of the buildings. Next, we made our way to the Spanish Village Art Center, and it felt like I had stepped into a movie set, very surreal and colorful. I would highly recommend Balboa Park for any first-time visitors to San Diego!

It's super accessible with ample parking, and I love that there are multiple entry points and routes you can take depending on how long of a walk you're in the mood for. This park truly has something for everyone. There's a splash pad, basketball courts, a great playground for kids, and even a giant chess game, which is such a fun and unique touch. It's also an amazing place to walk your dog--I bring mine here all the time, and he absolutely loves all the open grass and the variety of paths we can explore. One of my favorite features is the set of stairs that lead up toward the residential areas and the dog park. If you take them all the way up, you're rewarded with really pretty views at the top, which makes the little climb totally worth it. Overall, Civita Park is clean, well-designed, and perfect whether you're looking to be active or just enjoy a relaxing afternoon outdoors. Definitely a Mission Valley gem!

Lately, with temperatures 10 to 19° above "normal average" - or maybe it's just the new normal - it's hard to recall the last time we got to experience a cool day. But here, the way the gazebos, tables, and benches are set up reflects a pretty severe case of denial that this is Southern California, and not quite within walking distance from the beach. It WILL get hot whenever it damn pleases, with or without notice. It did so in February already, in case you missed it. We came a few times for the farmers market. Both days were unfortunately " 80°F" her weather report, which in reality feels like 92°F, and we had to scramble to find a little bit of shade, so that we could eat our street food without passing out from heat stroke. We huddled awkwardly on the curb under a small tree. Other people passing by with food in their hands looked at us with envy. NOT A SINGLE PERSON sat on the readily available benches with tables, because they were in the blazing sun, yet lacked any shade. Never mind an umbrella, not even holes to put one in!! Denial much?? It's really sad, because it's a beautiful place. It just DESPERATELY needs more shade for the visitors to feel comfortable without clinging to trees or the bathroom walls.
