This is my go to beach in San Diego. It is the best place to play in the waves, set up for a picnic, and even have a pizza delivered right to you! If you can find parking that's great but it's pretty easy to Uber to as well. My go to is to grab a sandwich at The Cheese Shop and head down to the beach and just chill all day! Kellogg Park in La Jolla is absolutely beautiful and has some of the best coastal views in the area. The location is stunning, right along the water with incredible ocean scenery, dramatic cliffs, and plenty of spots to sit and take it all in. On a clear day, the views are unreal and it really does feel like a postcard version of Southern California. That said, it is extremely crowded. Between tourists, families, photographers, and people stopping to watch the seals and sea lions, it can feel packed, especially mid day and on weekends. Parking can be challenging and the constant foot traffic takes away a bit from the peaceful, relaxing vibe you might be hoping for. If you don't mind crowds or are visiting for the first time, it's still 100 percent worth seeing. Just be prepared for lots of people and limited personal space. Go early in the morning or closer to sunset if you want a slightly calmer experience. Beautiful park, incredible views, but the crowds knock it down to four stars. read more

Beautiful park. Lots of people. Nice big parking lot. You can sit in the grass and/or go to the beach side. The views here are really pretty. I wasn't aware that this place was here, but I had just finished an appointment in the area and figured I'd check it out. Glad it did. I found a table to do some writing and update my planner. There is also a playground for the kiddos. I came during a busier time in the late afternoon so parking was busy, but there was always someone leaving so snagging a spot wasn't too much of a hassle. This is a nice grassy park next to the beach at La Jolla Shores.  It is a great place for picnics and parties -- we've been to several of them here.  Picnic tables and BBQs are available, but I suggest you bring your own. The public ones, like the park itself, can fill up quickly, especially on weekends and in the summer.  There are public rest rooms and outdoor showers at either end of the park, as well as playground equipment on the south end. The adjacent parking lot is free and fills up early; you can spend a considerable amount of time driving around for a space after around 10:00 am, especially in the summer.  Street parking exists, but it's tough in this residential neighborhood.   Restaurants, bars, and take-out food are available up on Avenida de la Playa.  Dogs are permitted, but they must be leashed read more

Awesome park! Perfect place for kids to get their energy out while parents can sit and have a picnic over looking the ocean! Several slides, lots of swings, plenty of things to climb. They have bathrooms nearby. The paved walking path is steps away from the park. There is a large grassy area to relax or there is the beach on the other side to relax. There is a very small parking lot and street parking. We will be back! read more

I'm going to give this park 5 stars, not because I've used it, but because it is always mobbed with kids. Let's face it, if it was bad, parents wouldn't bring their kids there. And judging from the fact that I just stayed at LJShores Hotel and the screaming from happy kids was almost unbearable, it's got to be a damn good park! Great little park. There is a grassy area with a playground and picnic tables. Ample parking. A huge white sands beach with restrooms and showers available. Nearby you have several rental shops to get kayaks, stand up paddle boards, or skuba/snorkeling gear. Just rent, take tour or even a class. If you get out on the water you can get up close and personal with leopard sharks (they are harmless), sea caves, or explore the large kelp beds with wildlife. We saw a lot of sea lions, harbor seals, and all kinda of fishies. Others said they saw a pod of dolphins earlier in the day but we missed them. Nearby you also have a lot of restaurants so perfect place to spend the entire day. So c'mon down to play, relax, spend the day on the water or watch a beautiful sunset. read more

Well Here is an Park for Kids !! I came here to bring my family after an walk at La Jolla Shores and it always seems very packed and crowded with kids . So I would assume it is an good park . But it's located in La Shores and if your planning on being at the beach and you decide on bringing your kids here then it is perfect because it is right in the middle of La Jolla Shores . Now there are a couple of slides and hang bars plus other things where your kids can play . Around the park is benches for you to sit also !! It's an ok park if your planning on bringing your kids to the beach and park at the same time !! Well lots of kids like playing here and it makes an great place to take your kids to !!! I always bring my kid here to play and he enjoys it !! Also there are large green grassy areas for you to sit also around the park . My work selected this as the location for our staff family party. It's got a great location to it as I've grown up in San Diego and never once knew this stretch of grass/beach was over here. There is a large parking lot which as of yesterday on a warm summer Saturday was a nightmare and better luck was found parking on a side street. They've got a playground that's really nice. They've got an abundance of bathrooms that exceed your standard of what you'd expect for a beach. Private locking doors that ensure some little kid wont open the door on you. They've got plenty of showers to rinse off in. A very large grass area perfect for beachy activities. Beach access is right on the otherside of the sidewalk. Clean water. Clean beach. Desperately looking for a park and came across this cute little gem. Right by the shore, it has a perfect breeze. It has a lower jungle gym and a higher one. Rope net to climb. Things to sit on. Grass to play in.. just so much fun! :) it's pretty well kept up. Not dirty like many parks. We will definitely be back!! read more

We love Kellogg Park and La Jolla Shores so much that we decided to stay here as in walking distance to the park and beach this vacation. The playground has swings, 2 sets of play equipment (one for smaller, one for bigger kids) and a small part is shaded! There are tons of private restrooms right by including a family restroom which is a huge deal when you have a 2 year old! Huge grassy area for picnics. Tons of people on the weekends...good luck finding parking. The boardwalk is large enough to fit a lot of people at once. read more

The new and improved La Jolla Shores playground was just the ticket for my visiting 2 1/2 year old granddaughter. With its bright colors and interesting metal equipment it is a magnet for kids of all ages. The little ones will enjoy the structure that is especially geared toward babies and toddlers, while the older kids will like the equipment that turns and twists and allows for swinging and hanging, sliding, dangling, climbing and lots more. The equipment has junior lifeguard towers that mirror the real thing just north of the playground. There are educational reliefs on some of the tower walls that show what to do in a rip current or how to do the stingray shuffle, and also teach recycling/pollution awareness. Near the playground is the beautiful relief map of the ocean with inlaid shells and bronze representations of sea life. Don't miss it. Recently renovated restrooms are just south of this map. La Jolla Shores has done a great job with this part of the park, thanks to all the donations and volunteer work. read more

This is my all time favorite beach. There's grass (for those people who are anti-sand) and lots of sand (naturally) for picnicking or setting up your beach umbrella and towels. There are also bonfire pits! It's got showers and restrooms (comparatively nicer than most beach restrooms) and a checkered flag at the fancy lifeguard station in the middle of the beach for splitting the surf side from the swim side. The surf is perfect for beginner surfers! And also perfect to swim in. There's tons of wildlife here. Near the swim side (or closer to the beachfront hotel) you can always see pods of leopard sharks, even from the shore! You'll also see nurse sharks and a variety of fishes (you gotta get in to see these guys)! It's a great place to snorkel! Also, you can rent bikes, kayaks, boogie boards, and snorkel gear from San Diego Bike & Kayak Tours. I'd make a reservation for busier times of the year like summer, but I love renting stuff from there! You'll also see people paragliding off the cliffs toward the surf side of the beach. I haven't looked into that, but I'm 99% sure you can paraglide for a price somewhere nearby Kellogg Park. It's also a very safe beach. The lifeguards are always roaming about either in the water or riding along the sand in their trucks. If you can, go on a weekday to avoid the crowds. Or go the weekend after Labor Day weekend! I don't have kids, but this is also a great beach for kiddos. The waves are small and the ground in the ocean is flat and even. You can go out quite aways in just waist deep water (waist deep at 5'7"). They also have an awesome playground! Randomly, the water is super clean and you can see straight down to the bottom no problem. I love Kellogg Park. read more

We found this park on Yelp because of the great reviews and they were right on! It was perfect for a family outing that was fun for the kids and relaxing for mom and dad too. The playground is adjacent to the beach boardwalk and the bathrooms are right next to it. They are not the cleanest ever but they are beach bathrooms so they're better than expected. There is also a grassy area with some shade for parents to lay down a blanket and watch the kids right next to the playground. There is not a lot of shade but there's some and, if you have an EZ up or am umbrella there are plenty of places to settle in for the afternoon. Parking is free and there is plenty of street parking on surrounding streets. There is also a street with 15 minute parking for loading and unloading right next to the playground and bathrooms. In my opinion it's the best park in the SD area and one that we'll definitely return to. read more
