I absolutely love Coronado and all the events hosted at Spreckels Park. Yesterday we attended one of their Concerts in the Park series and seeing all the families gathered together for the event definitely leaves you with a desire to live here. The band was wonderful and the park is big enough for all to enjoy. They have a gazebo that's used for the stage, a playground for littles, plenty of trees for shade, and clean bathrooms for the public. Beautiful space to enjoy the outdoors. read more

5 stars for the park that I've been visiting since I was a little kid back in the 70's. It's a classic small-town America park with a bandstand, playground, and tons of space to run around and hang out. In the summer they have free concerts on Sunday and a flower show and book show. 0 stars for the park's public bathrooms which I used to brag about being the cleanest bathrooms in the world. Apparently somebody heard the compliments and decided that they were doing too much work and their efforts would be better spent on doing as little as possible. Last night when I needed to use the facilities, I had to check through 8 separate stalls of increasingly horrifying sights before finding one that was barely acceptable if I held my nose and didn't pay attention to the surroundings too much. The previous ones had excrement all over the toilet and ground. Another had a full, open container of Vons tomato bisque sitting by an equally full toilet bowl. Another had a lake of urine. I imagine when Danny Boyle was writing Trainspotting, these stalls were his inspiration for the Worst Toilet in Scotland. read more

We were hear last night for the Sunday concert series. Large fun crowd. Many bring tables, chairs, food, blankets--it's a scene from 5 to 8 on Sundays. People here really get into it. You can stop at Boneys on Orange and get a picnic dinner before the concert. Or hit one of the restaurants on Orange. Different music every Sunday. Parking is on the street--you should be able to get a space within 3-4 blocks--check the back streets if Orange is packed. Bike it over too. Nice safe crowd from what I have seen. They have a bathroom area and dumpsters for garbage. Great park to sit and relax at. We used to have nice parks like this in my area until the homeless took them over. read more

In compassing one whole block in all directions, this little park has a lot to offer, including some nice spots to take a siesta, such as I did. The lawn was very green and the trees mature which makes the park quite pictures. The park is located on Orange Ave. between 6th and 7th street encompassing eight acres surrounding by neighbor housing. The park includes picnic tables spread about, a gazebo used for presentations and entertainment, and well maintained restroom facilities. Spots are open for event for over twenty people but reservations are required for that size. Electricity is also available: a rare commodity these days. No alcohol is allowed at the park of course. I have to say, I really like this park. I really enjoyed sitting under the large trees as their leaves danced in the wind. Being so close to the coast, it does not get that hot very often, except on those rare hot Santa Ana Days. This park makes me want to take a comfy nap. read more

This is one of my new favorite spots. I came here with my family on a Sunday afternoon for the concert in the park (every Sunday at 6 pm). There's plenty of street parking within walking distance on all four sides of the park. The playground is excellent and has plenty of slides and monkey bars. Parents can park it on the grass and listen to the music and watch their kids. The gazebo is in the center of the park and the band plays to al sides so there is plenty of seating, regardless of where you sit. The park has portable bathrooms brought in for the event but they are in the form of a trailer and are very clean and don't stink! This is not your average portapotty! Note that Dogs are not allowed at this park! read more

Shaded playground areas in a beautiful park. There are two separated play areas. One for big kids and one for toddlers. There is also a sandbox for kids to play with. There are many benches that parents can sit on while their kids getting out some energy. Parking is relatively easy as it is a few blocks away from main streets of Coronado. Overall, I highly recommend the park and its playground. Faculties are well maintained including the bathrooms. read more

Took a little drive today from Encinitas to Balboa park and decided to check out Coronado. I haven't been there more than 1-2 times in 23 years of living in SoCal. Anyways decided to check out some local parks and we stopped at Spreckeles Park. It was very nice and got the feel of what it would be like to live in Coronado. Anyways the park is very nicely manicured with flowers and trees in the park and along the street. There is a huge gazebo and people jogging kids playing in a very updated playground. Lots of swings and slides. Also there were artists selling their artwork by the roadside. It felt really folky and something out of a movie. Great park to see how the other half lives :) read more

What a nice park! The only downside is that it's surrounded by busy streets, so if you have little kids you have to follow them very close! The playground here is nice and well maintained. There are swings, slides, some bars to swing on... on the little kid playground there's a wall with the alphabet on it, which I found to be unique to this playground. There's also a gazebo, and a big grassy field good for picnics, playing frisbee or just running around. Great family park! read more

My friend and I are here for end of the summer free concert. Love the energy and the crowd. Friendly park with plenty of restrooms, police cars are here to help with the security. Some ppl brought their pets but not too many of them so it is manageable. The stage area is well setup. A opportunity to visit the beautiful Coronado. The parking is not too bad either. You circle around the neighborhood you'll find a spot off the street. But do try to arrive 30 minutes before concert officially starts, after concert starts, the parking is almost impossible. My wife and I always love coming here whenever we visit Coronado. It has that old-fashioned charm and the gazebo always makes my wife want to dance with me inside of it. There are lights around it that light up at night to make it look even more romantic. This park is really nice! However, for us parent folk, it would be nice if the amazing bathrooms were closer to the playground and if they playground was fenced in. Having the playground in a residential area is comforting but there are still a decent amount of cars on the streets surrounding it. There are also quite a few "blind spots" meaning that I could be on one end of the playground with my baby and have to scour the playground at times just to see my older daughter on the other side of, or within, some random part of the structure. Love this area!! The park, the church, the shops....the community as a whole has tons to offer! Pack a lunch, rent a bike, listen to the live music and enjoy the beautiful natural surroundings. The play structures are safe for young and old; plus the major benefit of amenities for children with special needs. The pad under is one of the best I have seen and I can't help but wish we could be here for more than just play dates. This is a great park (funny, it's misspelled on the map.) It's large (8 acres), with plenty of grass, public restrooms, and a brand new playground (opened end of March 2009). The new playground is very cool and has large structures for both little and big kids. The park is right across the street from the Coronado Library, which has story times twice a week, making it the perfect place for an energy release after quiet time in the library. The first and third Sundays of the month, from 9AM to 4PM, there's "Art in the Park," with artists lining the Orange and 7th Street edges of the park. In April, Spreckels Park is the site of the Coronado Flower Show (which also features a used book sale put on by the library), and in the summer there are concerts in the gazebo every Sunday evening. All in all, a very nice park for the whole family, for many reasons. read more

The family decided to visit this park while vacationing in the area. It was the perfect spot for our 2 year old to burn off some energy and play with some other kids his age. The play structures were all in great shape, and well designed. There are large grassy areas to run or walk in the shade. Located in the heart of Coronado, the picturesque Spreckels Park is perfect for a lazy afternoon. The playground is often full of kids & parents. The swings are great for the littles (bucket seats for babies) & the bigs! The summer concerts in the park fill up the entire space. Sundays you need to stake out your space hours early. The gazebo is very nice, makes a great bandstand. The grounds are kept clean and the grass is soft, most of the time. The bathrooms could use some work but they will do if absolutely necessary. I often come across kids pulling out the grass. The park needs grass unless you like to run & play in the mud. In that case, take your kids elsewhere. The beach has plenty of dirt/sand for you to play in & it's right down the street. Also, the little ones running around unsupervised...I know we all feel safe here but please keep an eye on your children. You never know what can happen. I've seen kids taken away by ambulance. Unsuspecting parents just on the other side of the park, no idea what's going on. read more

Trees. Huge trees. Providing just the kind of shade you might need for some down time between beach visits. The park is small (a city block). It's not a tourist destination in and of itself. But it has a picturesque gazebo at its core and a nice playground for the kids. On this day, there were a few more kids than the playground could truly hold, a bit of a problem. There was also evidence of an earlier wedding reception perhaps. Fun. Tomorrow? A spaghetti dinner benefiting local firefighters. I just walked by and they're just setting out the wonderful books. I absolutely love this park they have so many wonderful events here. I love spending weekdays here for some time alone to get some perspective with a book or a puzzle- It is shaded and quiet! But the best time to enjoy this park is on Sunday evenings in summer for the Coronado Concert in The Park Series! I usually stake a spot around 4pm with a blanket, a chair and a bottle of wine (yes, alcohol is allowed). The outside edge of grass on the park is set up for those who want to bring their dogs to the concert! The concerts usually start at 7pm but Navy band sometimes goes on beforehand - so be sure to see them! We are in San Diego after all! Parking can get tough- the best thing I have done was park by Sacred Heart Church early and leave before traffic jams you in over the bridge around 8pm. Note: A good way to pack your items in Coronado is a Costco small prop up picnic table and deck it out with anything PATRIOTIC!!! This is free all summer long, every Sunday! read more
