Great bonfire spot
Michael L.

Had a get together on the park with friends. There's a large grass area that overlooks Mission Bay and has these fire pits surrounding the periphery. There are plenty of cement, picnic tables along with trash cans and charcoal pits. You can bring your own above ground charcoal barbecues to this area. Great way to have a beach barbecue with friends. I got quite congested with people trying to get spots starting around 9 AM so I recommend getting there early. Had was very busy middle of the day.

The eastern side has several picnic areas, shoreline, fire pits, and rest stations with a view the skyline and Sea World. Unfortunately there were some garbage. Probably from the wind leaving traces of previous picnikers. On the other side, towards the coast, is the Hyatt and the marina with scattered picnic tables.

Nice quiet park . Perfect for bonfires, picnics, bbq, etc. Lots of parking available. --- its a little hard to find -- its right next to paradise point resort. Perfect for all outside activities.

Definitely one of the most Beautiful spots in San Diego. It used to have more BBQ's but our Flailing City Council would rather waste our money on stupid things than items that would actually be worthwhile. Awesome Sunsets and Sunrises Abound. And Paradise Resort has a nice setup if you prefer to have some tasty cocktails while watching those events. But get out here and at least checkout how Awesome it really is at least once. And please clean up after your selves Please! Us living in our cars aren't making the mess. If everyone helps we CAN keep San Diego Beautiful!!!! I may live in my car But I make a point to to pick up trash for a few hours every other day!!

Such a LOVELY PLACE in San Diego!! Had a picnic dinner outing with a bunch of students from my church and we went to visit SD. Set up a volleyball court in the grass area, was able to set up EZ ups over the tables for our food and had a bonfire in the evening. Really such a nice place to go out for a day, be by the water and watch the sunset.

I came here to walk off some breakfast calories for the morning and to enjoy the beautiful Saturday morning air. Vacation Isle sits right off Ingraham street right smack in the middle of Mission Bay between Sports Arena area and Pacific Beach. There's a long paved walk way that kind of circles the park going around the parameter next to the bay. Plenty of parking here and it even includes a Model Yacht pond. There is great views of the bay and it would make a good place to have a bbq to enjoy San Diego's sunny weather. The only issue is some traffic noise from the busy Ingraham street which sits above on an elevated bridge.

Its always open and has the only pit surrounded by a Colosseum. Great place to have groups of people with plenty of seats. I come all the time with friends to have a good time. Cops never show up and nobody acts crazy around which is the best perk about it.

Additionally, they have a bunch of firepits, so it's always fun to have a bonfire after your picnic!

We paid for parking right in front of the Spanish Art Village and paid $10 for 4 hours. Spanish Art Village was beautiful. If you buy something, it goes directly to the artist whose studio you're in. The artists were sitting quietly and would talk to you about their art pieces and tell you a little about themselves. Everything in there was so cool. I was especially intrigued by the artist in Studio 21, he had these incredible three part paintings he does by hand and I've never felt so much emotion before by an art piece. I really wish I had the money for them because I really would've taken them home with me ;( The botanical building was stunning, it wasn't as big as I thought it would be but definitely beautiful! We also ended up visiting the Timken Art museum and the PostSecrets and Cannibalism exhibits within the last 15 minutes of them being open. Wish we got there earlier so we didn't have to speed through them, but staff was still really nice and everything was so interesting to look at! We went to Panama 66 for a quick drink and bite afterward. We didn't even get to explore the rest of it because the entire park is so expansive, but we will definitely be coming back to visit the rest. It's definitely a must for tourists, but I just know I'd be here every day lying in the grass and reading if I lived here!

Our driver was nice enough to give us a short tour on the way, which was a nice touch. We ended up seeing the Botanical Building and lily pond area, and both were lovely and picturesque. I honestly felt like I was in Europe with the architecture of the buildings. Next, we made our way to the Spanish Village Art Center, and it felt like I had stepped into a movie set, very surreal and colorful. I would highly recommend Balboa Park for any first-time visitors to San Diego!

It's super accessible with ample parking, and I love that there are multiple entry points and routes you can take depending on how long of a walk you're in the mood for. This park truly has something for everyone. There's a splash pad, basketball courts, a great playground for kids, and even a giant chess game, which is such a fun and unique touch. It's also an amazing place to walk your dog--I bring mine here all the time, and he absolutely loves all the open grass and the variety of paths we can explore. One of my favorite features is the set of stairs that lead up toward the residential areas and the dog park. If you take them all the way up, you're rewarded with really pretty views at the top, which makes the little climb totally worth it. Overall, Civita Park is clean, well-designed, and perfect whether you're looking to be active or just enjoy a relaxing afternoon outdoors. Definitely a Mission Valley gem!

Lately, with temperatures 10 to 19° above "normal average" - or maybe it's just the new normal - it's hard to recall the last time we got to experience a cool day. But here, the way the gazebos, tables, and benches are set up reflects a pretty severe case of denial that this is Southern California, and not quite within walking distance from the beach. It WILL get hot whenever it damn pleases, with or without notice. It did so in February already, in case you missed it. We came a few times for the farmers market. Both days were unfortunately " 80°F" her weather report, which in reality feels like 92°F, and we had to scramble to find a little bit of shade, so that we could eat our street food without passing out from heat stroke. We huddled awkwardly on the curb under a small tree. Other people passing by with food in their hands looked at us with envy. NOT A SINGLE PERSON sat on the readily available benches with tables, because they were in the blazing sun, yet lacked any shade. Never mind an umbrella, not even holes to put one in!! Denial much?? It's really sad, because it's a beautiful place. It just DESPERATELY needs more shade for the visitors to feel comfortable without clinging to trees or the bathroom walls.

Shade is easily found and the play structure is great for children + adults of all ages. Lastly, there are restrooms and water fountain located not too far. Shout out to Ms. Maruta Gardner!!
