i'm conflicted about this place. i love Point Loma, SO beautiful but i was shocked and kinda sad that kids are STILL jumping off the cliffs even though someone just got hurt here. We saw the lifeguards come and talk to them and they just waited and jumped anyway. SO dumb. but I guess that's what you do when you're young and foolish lol I'll try to post pics here. We live by Pt. Loma and Sunset Cliffs is our go-to spot for a quick weekend walk. This is the perfect spot to watch the stunning California sunset and the ocean. It's even more beautiful in Spring! I knew about SC when I was living abroad and immediately fell in love then told myself that is where I'm gonna get married! I DID!! It's also a perfect spot for tide pooling. Sunset Cliffs Natural Park is a really beautiful place to catch the sunset. My daughter and I come here once in a while, and every single time, finding parking is a challenge. Still, I keep coming back because the view is absolutely worth it, especially in the late afternoon when the sun starts going down. Every time I've visited, it's been pretty busy, but it never really feels overcrowded because the area is so open and spread out. One thing I noticed is that I haven't really seen any lifeguards around, so if you don't know how to swim, I wouldn't recommend climbing down into the water. I also see a lot of people walking their dogs here, which is something I personally like. Between the ocean views, the sunset, and all the people out enjoying the outdoors, it's just a nice place to spend part of the day. read more

Wow! I get why this spot is supposed to be one of the best spots in San Diego to catch the sunset. It's absolutely stunning. People will bring blankets and chairs as well as food which is such an incredible idea. To get to just enjoy a loved one's company while you can sit here enjoy the views and even enjoy your dinner or a dessert or snack or whatever!!! Sunset Cliffs is a San Diego institution! I frequently go for walks in this area. A lot of of it is parallel to the street but at the end there is a nice open park with a few trails that butt up to Point Loma Nazarene university. It is especially beautiful right now in the spring... All the flowers are starting to come out and everything is green. This is also a great area to come out with a picnic and watch the sunset. A very underrated part of San Diego. Sunset Cliffs, as the name states is one of the amazing spots for sunsets. However, my wife and I love to come here for the scenic view and a nice hike. Parking - Street parking is ideal here, however I've seen many park on the lots alongside the coast for a closer view of the ocean. Although there's not a beach area, you're able to hike along the coast for a long while, you'll see people doing yoga, taking pictures, or hiking up and down the coastline itself. There's plenty of spots that stretches out towards the ocean, you'll see plenty of people enjoying the breeze. This is a sunset spot, but my wife and I visited for a morning hike, and it was just as scenic. It wasn't too cold and it was a very enjoyable 3 mile hike up and down the coast. Pictures are a must! For sunset specific visits, any spot is great, but there's a specific spot called Pappy's point where many gather to see the sunset. Aside from that, driving along the coastline with the window/roof down is a absolute gem moment. Definitely a relaxing spot to visit whenever in town. read more

I love Sunset Cliffs! It's one of my favorite spots for photoshoots. Parking has never really been an issue for me, and the area is so big that you can walk around, explore, and take photos without feeling crowded. I was pleased to find that the parking here is free. We parked in the parking lot but it can get filled up. I have seen people park along the street. Apparently, some of the locals have never heard of Rum Runner's Cave (Smuggler's Cave) or Rum Runner Cove. I found it on Google search but didn't see it. They have stairs that take you down to the tides. There were low tides when we went and I saw people walking along the rocks. If you do so, make sure you have some water shoes. You can go barefoot but be careful with your footing. This is a great place to take nice photos. read more

Beautiful park to visit at any time of the day, but it's especially beautiful during sunset. My husband and I hiked the trail here and enjoyed San Diego's natural coastal environment very much. The trail is short and easy without much elevation, making it great for beginners. It was stunning to see the clear ocean view. Certain parts of the cliff are uneven and steep, so it is important to be careful when navigating the cliffs. The entire park had plenty of room for us to explore nature's beauty, as it was not crowded at all. I would highly recommend checking this spot out if you are in the area. read more

SUNSET CLIFFS NATURAL PARK @ SAN DIEGO Parking is available through street parking only, and it's usually pretty easy to find. If you can't get a spot during peak hours, there's also neighborhood parking right next door. There are plenty of areas to drive around, so you'll be able to find something. This is definitely a core spot for college students, honestly, for anyone living in San Diego. As a college student, I've always loved coming to Sunset Cliffs. It's super nice, the views are incredible, and watching the sunset here never gets old. It's also a great place for picnics. It can get crowded at night, but the vibe is always fun, and it's cool seeing everyone hang out. I recommend bringing a blanket since it gets a little sandy, but there are trash cans everywhere, and you can bring food. It's just a really great environment overall and definitely a place I think everyone should visit. read more

I came here on a Saturday evening and it was pretty busy. There was a lot of traffic getting to the area and in the parking lot, but I was able to find street parking without too much trouble. The ocean views are beautiful and it's a really nice spot to take a walk, relax, and enjoy the scenery. Definitely worth visiting, especially around sunset. read more

Came during low tide to see the tide pools, what amazing place! The drive in was so spectacular, it felt like I was almost driving into the ocean. I can't believe how many fellow Yelpers I know have left reviews! I've been here a few times over the past year, but never thought about writing a review. This is one of the best reasons why San Diego is a great city to live in! My students needed a photograph of them watching the sunset. We drove over at 5:45, thinking it wouldn't be crowded, but it was! Some of them were also worried about the clouds that were rolling in. However, if memory serves me right, there's always been a few breaks between cloud banks for the sun to peak through. The evening was perfect! A man proposed to his girlfriend when we arrived. He put together a bed of white rose petals, a bunch of candles, and a lit up sign that said, "Will you marry me?" on a background of faux ivy. There was also a bottle of champagne chilling. He really did a great job! How could she say no especially with that sunset behind them! If you can't find parking, the neighborhood is your best bet depending on which cliff and/or beach you want to go to. For the most part, the people are all very chill and nice since it's sunset. Our only issue were the foreign people who walked right in front of me while I was taking pictures. I hate tourists...LOLLLLL! Definitely worth coming to at sunset...the most beautiful natural light! read more

What's up: Sunset Cliffs was one of the places that constantly showed up on our search results of things to do in the San Diego area. Since we were looking for things to do after breakfast, we decided to add this place to walk off the yummy food we just ate. Parking: Since the cliffs are long, there are multiple parking lots to choose from. Most of the ones that we went to were full but we managed to find a lot that had open spots. There's also street parking. Environment: It was a slightly cloudy day with a bit of wind. But the view was nice. Just seeing the cliffs being struck by the waves was pretty cool. And you'll see plenty of birds flying by and sea creatures if you dare to venture closer to the waters. Just be careful because there is nothing stopping you if you do get too close to the edge. Yay/Nay/Meh: Yay. If you haven't been by, it's worth a visit. Compared to other cliffs that I've visited, this one was decent and pleasant to visit. I didn't see any restrooms so, that's one downside. But other than that, it's easy to get to and free to visit! read more

Sunset cliffs are amazing! Bring water. You'll need it as you hike along the tops of the cliffs. There are signs posted so you don't fall over the edge. You can see surfers in the water, so there must be a way down. There are unofficial paths. W careful. The water by the cliffs is beautiful. I could spend all day down there. There is some sand to lay on too. No bathrooms down there. This park was an accidental find which made a wonderful day for us. I loved it here! read more

The only sightseeing I did during my 24 hour work trip, all thanks to my friend for showing me around a little bit. It was low tide, so we got to walk along the bottom of the cliffs where the water usually comes up. It's a phenomenal spot to catch the sunset and to just take in nature. If you're a big surfing person, this seems to be the spot where surfers go catch some waves, although it seems dangerous with all of the rocks. read more

We drove to three different lookout spots in Sunset Cliffs. Luckily, there were parking spaces available. However, be prepared to parallel park if needed. The views were still cloudy, but I still got some nice photos. The sun started peeking out of the clouds only a little bit later in the afternoon. There are stairs where Sunset Cliffs Blvd. turns into Ladera St. to take photos with more great backgrounds. I recommend bringing shoes appropriate for the sandy and rocky terrain. read more

Sunset cliffs is a place you can visit and be reminded why San Diego is one of the most beautiful cities in the world. Just being at the edge of the coast and soaking in those ocean views. Absolutely beautiful trail/hike. It's not too difficult and theres many paths to chose from. My favorite is the one that leads down to the beach, great views and scenery. Be careful however when going during high tide. My friends and I went for sunset but ended up walking from the end of the trail across the beach as the water started rising - it will go all the way to the cliff side and you'll be submerged. The parking is very crowded. There is a lot for paid parking and a strip with many free spots (a little bit of a walk but on the water) and almost always packed. Definitely account for this. The parking you'll most likely end up with is quite far in the neighborhood areas but it's still a nice view and strip to walk along until you reach the trailhead. read more

Came here but the parking lotwas full as this was Labor day weekend. It was crowded here along the Sunset beaches. We ended parking on the street and neighborhood. We had to check out the sunset and seemed everyone was doing the same. Was intrigued how this would look. I guess the thing to do here while in SD. Beautiful homes that had perfect views of the ocean, people watching and sunset. Would love to live in one of those homes or rent it. Lots of spots to check out the caves, water surfers, play in the sand and make it a day of fun. Unfortunately, we didn't get to check out the caves even though it was a warm day, there was an overcast so we didn't get to see the sunset fully. We saw a small portion like reddish color of the sun but not picture worthy as it went away fast. We saw rays of sun trying to creep through and that was beautiful. Exhilarating!! Sunset Cliffs Natural Park is the stretch of cliffs located north of Point Loma and south of Ocean Beach. Depending on the time you visit, parking may be a challenge. This area gets lots of visitors/tourists and that may lessen your enjoyment. Usually very early in the morning, with hardly anyone around, I practice yoga here and so I frequent this area and find it exhilarating to all my senses. The fresh ocean breezes, without any obstructions, blowing at you directly, so breathe in hold and relax...it's calming and zen. My furbaby would sit and observe me and later imitated and she does an upward dog yoga pose...lol You can make your visit tranquil or active. You sit/stand/pause and just look and see and appreciate the ocean, flora and fauna. There are hike trails to take you down to the water, the terrain is always evolving in firmness and can be hazardous so be careful!! Have traveled globally and have experience sights similar but probably at a grander scale: Cliffs of Moher in Ireland is magnificent. However, if you can't make out to Ireland, the sunset cliffs and all it has to offer is not to be missed, in fact a must visit while you're in San Diego. Breathe in Zen!! Namaste. If you want to see the best sunset in San Diego, Sunset Cliffs Natural Park is a great location. The panoramic views of the cliffs and ocean are breathtaking. Sunsets are always great with no obstructed views. The sunsets are always beautiful and dramatic. Great spot for couples & family photos. Lots of street parking, you might have to walk a bit but you will find something. Just be respectful of the neighborhood and neighbors, people live here. This is a great place for walking along the coastline as well. Walking on the path with my wife is a wonderful way to see the ocean, get some exercise, and feel disconnected. The spots where the path is dull are great. Unfortunately the cliffs are always eroding, so the walking path takes you into the shoulder of the road at a couple spots. My girl and I came to visit the Sunset Cliffs on a Wednesday, around 4 PM in October. It was great weather, being overcast and slightly cool and windy. Unfortunately, it was not the very lowest tide, and we could not get access to the cave itself. In my videos, I explain the route to take in order to get to the caves. There is a shortcut down the Rocky cliffs that the surfers used to get to the water, but I'm not sure what that looks like during low tide. I was told that we could park on the road and walk the coastal line around the shore and it would lead to the sunset cliff cave. Overall, this was a great experience, even though we could not get to the cave. But I am glad that we were able to find easy parking and go exploring. I'm pretty sure that this place is jampacked during Taurus season and when it's sunny out. read more

Well first the parking can be a little tricky but it does fill up fast and we got here around 7:00pm and the sunset was going down but we still got some good views and pictures . Well as you look down the cliff you can see the waves crashing against the rocks and the cliffs . It's an amazing view and it's a nice walk around as you can enjoy the sunset here . There are a couple of benches for you to sit also . But just don't get to close to the edge of cliffs because it can be unstable sometimes and it is a nice place to for family and friends to hangout and enjoy the relaxing views here .
