we stopped by to pick up our takeout. The restaurant was actually quite busy. They seem to have some sort of a group and an area had been reserved for them. In addition, there were many people having food and drinks because this was around happy hour time. I noticed they also have happy hour specials. I tried some fried taquitos appetizer and my daughter had steak tacos. Both were very good. Definitely a place to try if you are looking for a lunch spot or informal happy hour in the financial district. Prices were reasonable for the financial District area

Wanted to try a new spot for lunch and saw Cenote was highly rated so gave it a shot. Mainly known for the bowls, the most popular item is the Tulum Bowl with chicken al pastor. As a whole, the dish was somewhat underwhelming. The ingredients seemed to be randomly placed together, the flavors didn't really blend well. The meat and the beans were quite salty, while the salsa was sweet on the side. Given the presentation and expectation, was slightly underwhelmed. The best part of the dish were the jalapeños, which offered a nice kick. That being said, for the price and quality, fast-food chains like Chipotle may still offer a better deal when it comes to Mexican cuisine inspired bowls. I've heard happy hours are great and the restaurant definitely has a nice ambience. Would be interested in trying more of their dishes such as the tacos and burritos as well.

Needed a quick lunch in between meetings, and Cenote was nearby. It was 1pm, and while the store was definitely crowded (as you can expect for FiDi), there was some seating available. You order first and then sit anywhere, making it an optimal spot if you want a quick lunch but still want to sit down and eat it. I got the Tulum bowl, which has mango salsa, and added carnitas. I will say - the prices look pretty cheap on the menu, but definitely racks up when you add the protein in. The food came out in 5 minutes, which was great since I was on a time crunch. Loved the mango salsa and the sweetness it added to the dish. The carnitas and beans were incredibly salty though, and left my mouth feeling quite dry afterward. My food also came out lukewarm and turned cold within 5 minutes of eating. I've heard their happy hour is great, so interested in that!

My coworker suggested this place and this place is now one of my favorite places to get a burrito. I have not tried the other items on the menu but the cali burrito I have had twice and it was so good. Let me say I would frequent chipotle down the street but now this is my place to go. I have to say the verse salsa with the chips is so good. Must try and eat!!!! People are friendly here. I told the cashier that this is now my second time here and my favorite. She laughed and smiled. The place is low key and casual. I just ate my lunch's and people gazed from the window but I think there is a tv in there. Regardless it is not too loud and I loved the food.

Carne asada cali style burrito. The burrito itself was not amazing. - Cheese: If you are expecting melted cheese, it's not for you, this was more of a cold cheese deal. - Carne Asada: The carne asada itself wasn't really charred and not a lot of flavor even compared to chipotle. - Salsa: The silver lining was the salsa, nice smoky earthy taste, idk what it's called, the brown one, very good. The green salsa was just average. - Size: slightly smaller than average - Avocado: comes with the burrito and not an add on which is nice.

Located in financial district, perfect place to come to for happy hour, which ends at 5:30. We ordered nachos with the chicken, classic margs, and fluatas. You order at the front and there's plenty of indoor seating, it was pretty empty on a Friday afternoon.

My coworkers and I have walked by this place a hundred times and finally decided to give it a shot. We had super high hopes but, unfortunately, we were a little disappointed. The burritos were smaller than most other Mexican food restaurants in the area and the flavor was just ok. The salad was good but the menu hanging on the wall was a little deceptive. It read "add your protein" next to the salad options but I didn't realize until I got to the counter that adding a protein to the salad was extra cost. We ordered some chips and salsa to go with the order. The tortilla chips were tasty but the salsas weren't anything special. My coworkers and I took a vote and 3/5 stars seemed to be the most appropriate grade. Overall, it was good but not great in any way.

Tried this place for the first time as it is near my office and I was super impressed! This is a solid sized burrito and packed with all the fillings. The service was super fast even though they were busy so if you are in a rush between meetings this is a great spot. The inside is really nice and maybe next time I will give it a try and eat there. Definitely recommend this restaurant and will be back soon!

I popped in for lunch with my Dad after a nearby appointment. I was impressed with how helpful, friendly, and fast the service was! My Cancun bowl was fresh, flavorful, and generous in size. The space was clean, pleasant, and welcoming! A nice find.

I barely get enough from Cenote! Not only was the food and drink in good quality, but also more authentic enough to transport me back to the ancient Mayan period where the watering hole had been clean for ages. Since I have my own gift card, it's about time I come here for their zesty Mexican food. The first time I bought a steak torta for my brother, he thought the beef flavor was so dry to him. It appears that there's absolutely nothing from the menu option that's suitable to his palate. Second time would be my lunchtime. The Yucatan Bowl definitely hits the spot! Good quality vegetables with vegan taco meat over rice seasoned with herbs and spices! The avocado slices looked and tasted colorfully fresh from the very beginning. Might try Cancun Bowl on the next future visit if I'm brave enough against the spiciness! Churros in a caramel dip were extremely filling than sugary glaze. No horchata, no problem! The Cucumber Lime Fresca was a better refreshing choice than an alcoholic mezcal. Good to meet and greet the people working in a family run restaurant as unique as Cenote. They provided good catering service for my workplace close by. I admit that the steak cubes were dry when I had another spoonful in my mouth, but there's nothing to it since Cenote makes good quality Mexican food from scratch. Just as the watering hole looks clean, so was the food.

Cenote defined in lowland Yucatec Maya is tsonoot, which refers to any location with accessible groundwater. This restaurant is family owned and operated by father-daughter duo, Randy and Lauren respectively. Establishments Cafe Venue and Local Roots are also part of the father-daughter duo's operation. Cenote's cuisine is California driven and Mexico inspired. It uses local sources ranging from farms in Petaluma, Salinas Valley, and Monterey. My first impression exceeded my expectations. It is bright, spacious, and very clean inside. The interior designs take you to a cenote somewhere in Tulum or the Yucatan Peninsula. Every other staff member was welcoming and attentive. I had questions about vegan options and a person at the front was helpful. I was excited to hear about vegan options at this new place and opted for a vegan burrito bowl during work lunch. The tangy, crunchy chickpeas and refreshing jicama in the hearty bowl were a pleasant addition. Plus side: I was given a bottle of green hot sauce at the front and drenched my bowl with it as I am a spice lover. The portion given is a serving bigger than the average Chipotle bowl for the same price. I am taking one star out just because there is a vegan meat charge of $3.00 for the bowl I bought. I am happy there are vegan options on the menu and there was nothing short of a great dining experience on my first time here. read more

Here's my honest and ugly truth. It doesn't take much to complete slaughter Mexican cuisine and make it your own. Location is great Ambiance it good Aesthetically pleasing Great Potential Service was friendly staff was very nice Off the bat, I had the Al pastor chicken torta. 1. Why does the chicken look fake? And why is it sooooo thick? 2. Why are we still chopping chunks of avocado into the the sandwich? They completely fall off to the sides. (Just mash it and add it on one bun side. 3. The pickled onions would taste great with simply lime and salt. 4. The pineapple, would taste better grilled and finely diced. Dole can pineapples taste better. 5. Why does the salsa taste almost gooey and sweet? Nothing amazing about the bun.... Here's my advice, we live California, with many amazing cooks that have wayyyyy more talent than this. Give your cook the craft of creativity to show you authentic Mexican food. Let's stop using Mexican food to attract clientele and fail to represent the actual food. read more

So excited to have great (and reasonably priced!) Mexican food in the neighborhood. I had a Cali burrito with carnitas, my husband had three carne asada tacos, a tortilla soup, and a margarita. We loved it all! Cute little spot that has ample seating and also a large breakfast offering 8-11am. Really happy with this addition to the FiDi and I hope they succeed! read more

Cenote was perfect for our Women in Leadership reception last Friday evening. The taco bar - steak, shrimp and veggies and maragarita pitchers of passion fruit and original were a hit! Cenote offers an affordable happy hour menu and a wide selection of offerings, but the food remains subpar. The $6 house sangria (5.7/10), $4 chips and quac (6.7/10) and $8 quesabirria tacos (5.2/10) bring the total score for Cenote to a 5.86/10. I decided to round up to a 3/5 because of the great prices and decent portions. If you're able to visit Cenote M-F between the hours of 3-8PM and are willing to sacrifice price for taste, Cenote is a no-brainer. However, the criteria of a food critic must place taste above cost, thus Cenote receives 3 stars from Coveted Cade. read more

Went for Happy Hour and it did not disappoint! The margaritas were strong and delicious! I ordered the Tulum bowl with carne asada which was enough for 2 people and it was delicious!! The best Mexican place in the area! Friendly staff. I specially like the ease of their online order service and that they offer substitutions for some ingredients. Good spot for lunch if you work downtown - a good comp to Chipotle if you want something a little different. The restaurant was very clean and everyone was very friendly. I thought the sandwiches were a little small but the bowls were a decent amount of food. They also sell alcohol, so potentially a good spot for a happy hour after work. read more

I had probably the worst Mexican food I've ever had eating here. Places in Idaho are even better. My Burrito was very bland, the horchata wasn't even liquid it was all pre mix powder with ice, and my girlfriends chicken quesadilla was very mid not worth the price. Should of just ate at the hotdog vendors outside of oracle. read more

This place is perfect all around. Had a late breakfast today just before 11am. First time here. Friends told me about this place. Came in about 1045am. Place was empty. Very clean, nice decor and spacey place. Ordered a steak breakfast burrito. Very reasonably priced. Got a table easily since place was empty before the financial district lunch rush. I only just had the breakfast burrito but this place immediately leaps into the rotation. Ingredients are quality, the flavors sublime (the salsas!) and the service is on point. Where's the beef (or chicken)? I had the cali chicken Al pastor chicken. Flavor was ok. There was not much meat. Tasted more like a bean and rice burrito. And some of the rice was hard. For Mexican food in SF, subpar. For Mexican downtown, it was ok. Overall, just ok. read more

Fresh ingredients, friendly service and tasty margaritas! I had a trio of tacos to sample each filling. The carne asada was particularly delicious with a bit if a smoky flavor. But the al pastor and chicken were great too. Plenty of meat and they make a spicy salsa that you can add to it. Service was a mixture of counter service (ordering) and table service (delivery and clean up) . Fast, attentive and friendly. I highly recommend this place for lunch if you are in the financial district. It also looks like they have a good happy hour offering. read more

Went for a quick bite and a drink, and we will return when we have bigger appetites. The room is very inviting, the staff are friendly, and the food and drink options all look delicious. We had chips and salsa, a margarita, and an agua fresca. The chips were warm and were substantial - not the kind that break when you dig into the salsa bowl. We loved the salsa options. They were all good. The drinks were delicious. Everything was fresh and clean. It's a great spot for lunch, after work drinks, or dinner. I'm a fan. read more

Every time I visit San Francisco I have to eat at Cenote. I've had nothing but wonderful experiences there. Expect to full because the portions are huge! The burritos, tacos and quesadillas are delicious! Their chips, which are made in house and guacamole are the best I've ever had. You have to try the churro bites with the caramel dipping sauce! They are heavenly. Not only is the food amazing, but the service is top notch. They always greet you with smiling faces as soon as you enter. They acknowledge you right away and take great care in making you feel welcomed. They are very knowledgeable about the menu and ingredients. My mother-in-law has a lot of dietary restrictions and they were very accommodating for her. They offered to customize her meal to accommodate all of her food allergies. The staff at Cenote is amazing! They check on you and make sure your experience is an enjoyable one. They are friendly, quick and always smiling. You can tell they take pride in their work. We ate here a few times before. The food is pretty good. We had the fried fish plates $15.65, some tacos $5 each, steak sandwich $15 and pulled pork shoulder $14.50. Service is as expected for an order at the counter type of restaurant and you get a buzzer. I'm not sure why I tipped for restaurants like these.
