Relaxing atmosphere with tasty food. Service and atmosphere: The staff were polite, professional and attentive. The restaurant had modern vibe with colourful decor and clean aesthetic. Food and drinks: Good menu had big selection of Mexican cuisine foods. We ordered sampler for starters which came with a few different appetisers. The variety was good and all were tasty. Beef fajitas were tender, well seasoned and full of flavour. The restaurant has an ice cream machine which is free of charge. Bonus! Drinks were prepared well and they offer good selection of alcoholic beverages. Pricing: $$ - standard prices.

This was our first time here and the atmosphere is beautiful. I love mosaic tile and Spanish art when you walk in the restaurant. I will say the layout is different with various tables pointing different directions so I didn't know where she was taking us lol but it's a fun vibe in here. My Plato Pancho Villa was huge for $10.99. It had enchiladas, guacamole, crispy taco, rice and beans. The cheese enchiladas with chili con queso was delicious. My husband got the Tacos Al Carbon and the beef fajita meat was seasoned perfectly. Our margaritas were delicious and Chad our server was helpful with my drink to not have jalapeño and made us feel welcomed here so we wouldn't mind coming back.

We were craving some Tex Mex around the hwy 6 area as our previous go-to went out of business. After a quick search I saw Cenas had decent reviews so we decided to give it a try. Late Lunch time on a Monday afternoon wasn't too busy, we were quickly seated and drink orders and recommendations were taken. The complementary Chips and salsa were great! The daily lunch specials with +$2 marg option was a great deal! I opted for a basic chicken quesadilla and it did not disappoint. To top this all off...complementary soft serve!! Great tasting food, great service, lunch menu prices were affordable! There is also a nice bar to the right when you walk in. Will be back!

My niece and I came here for her schools spirit night and glad we did they are not getting a 5 because we did not get chips and salsa. We sat on the patio which was really nice as it had been hot the previous days. My seafood enchiladas were wonderful and OMG that rice was as the best I've tasted in a long time. I chose the watermelon margarita first since on Mondays they have happy hour and the first two margaritas were two dollars. I wasn't really impressed by the watermelon, but then I got the strawberry and it was much better. My niece of course got the same thing that she gets at any Mexican restaurant, chicken nuggets and fries. She loved them both. Our waitress was wonderful and we can't wait to go back.

My mom chose Cenas Kitchen for her birthday dinner to celebrate with most of the family. I personally wasn't expecting much. I used to live in Texas for a short period of time and in general, the Mexican food is very much Tex-Mex. When we arrived, there was lots of parking and a few people inside. We were greeted immediately and warmly. We were sat at a large and clean table. We had 6 people in our party, one being a child. My husband and I are not picky and don't change menu items/ingredients. The rest of the table however, are the opposite. Our waiter was gracious, hard working, and kind throughout our visit. Our drinks were always filled. My first look at the menu, I was rejoicing. They had Mangonada with chamoy sticks! Besides my husband (who knows my obsession), no one at our table knew what this was. They ordered waters and tea while I celebrated my mom's birthday with a margarita. The menu was expansive and I ended up ordering a platter. First off, the Mangonada was delicious! I let my mom have a try and she ended up getting one for herself, my cousin tried it and she too, wanted to order one. I was so happy to spread the chamoy love onto others! Second, the food is not Tex-mex. It's delicious, hot, and savory! Love is put into the meals. And the tamale...SO good!! I can't find good tamales where we live in NC. This made me so happy! We all enjoyed our meals, with plenty of leftovers to take home. I was really happy that my mom chose Cenas Kitchen for the group. If I'm to come back to the area, I hope she recommends coming here again!

Nut allergy friendly: I didn't even ask! We got here around 11:30AM for a lunch with three. Seated relatively quickly. Chips and sauces out within five minutes. Time to Lunch Order: 13 Minutes The chips and salsa was pretty good. The creamier sauce wasn't too flavorful (a bit of spice) and the red sauce was relatively standard and a little bland. My mixed Fajita Quesadilla was hefty and had a nice side of sour cream and guacamole. The quesadilla seemed a bit uneven with some pieces having a lot of meat and others more held together by cheese. I actually came here about six years ago, in 2019, and also gave it a 4/5 for way too much queso on their fajita and being too greasy. Overall, it's the same as I remember, but great for lunch due to fast service. Their specials seem great, but I couldn't be drinking during a work day.

Great place to tackle taco Tuesday. They offer daily drink and food specials. The service was top tier. My waitress didn't let a thing go unhandled. The street tacos were great and their margaritas pack a punch. This is a great place to stop in for any day of the week.

Well I had to think a while before writing this review. Originally was thinking 3 stars but had to add a star after thinking about the whole picture. I was very impressed by the restaurant itself...wonderful ambience and a nice big, fully stocked bar. Since I was alone I opted for sitting at the bar. Bar stools are very uncomfortable...but I stayed there as I was kinda in a hurry and the service was great so that was a good thing. Now to the more complicated part of my review. The food is...well...different. Not really in a bad way and seemed pretty fresh. My order came with two plates as with a lot of combo plates. I ordered the Friday combo special consisting of the first plate...one crispy taco, one bean tostada and another tostada with queso on it. Both tostadas and taco shell were very stale. The meat in the taco had a...not bad, not good...just different flavor. Didn't enjoy that plate at all. I was starving so I finished the taco but not the tostadas. Second plate...two cheese enchiladas with great chili sauce and white cheese...very good. Rice that was good but the star of the show was the charro beans! Best I've ever had in a restaurant. I decided I will return to try the shrimp and/or fajitas...oh and a margarita if I go on a day off. Can't totally judge a restaurant on one visit. Go give it a try, nice place and great service. Go give them a try and

Cenas Kitchen is the new name of the old Aguirre's Tex Mex restaurant that was located on Hwy 6 N. Not only did they change the name but they moved north about a mile away (about 3 months ago) and now is located on Hwy 529 next to Hwy 6N. It's in the old Fajita Willie's location in the large shopping center where Best Buy and Barnes and Noble are. Yelp location is accurate. The new spot is much, much larger inside. It has indoor and outdoor seating with a full bar and a large indoor dining room. The decor is very attractive with many drop lights hanging from the open ceiling. They did a nice job with the interior decorating here. Fortunately they basically have the same menu which means the same excellent food. I have visited twice for the Fish El Rey and Chicken fajitas. Both were just as good as the old Aguirre's which means a 5 score. On certain days they have these dishes and other on special. The chips are crunchy and the red and green salsas delicious. The flour tortillas here are homemade but not the corn. I like the charro beans the best and the table service is attentive. This location is superior to the old one in almost every way and the food is equally good. Here is my one complaint. My first visit was for dinner and the restaurant was about 1/3 full and it was kind of loud inside and it shouldn't have been. Had it been 2/3 full, I wouldn't have wanted to be there. Unfortunately the acoustics here are poor. They need more sound deadening materials inside. Inside looks great but busy days will be annoying with the sound reverberation. It is only for that reason I give a Yelp score of 4 instead of 5.

The easiest 10/10 I could ever give a restaurant. We were sat immediately on a Sunday afternoon. Ariya was our server and she was very knowledgeable about the menu and sweet. We had the chicken empanadas for appetizer, it could very well be an entree by itself. They were packed with flavor and sooooo yummy! My bf had the mango and shrimp salad, it had this amazing sweet ginger dressing that was very green so I was a bit skeptical but it was the best thing I've ever tasted! I want the recipe sooooo bad. For my entree, I had the Mexican wrap with fajita beef, it was huge! But very delicious. They offer free ice cream so I had to try it. So good! Every time I'm in town I will be going here! Very family friendly, bright and airy inside decor wise. I love it there!

Our server was super friendly and kept things moving. Free chips and salsa to start. The chips came out warm and crunchy, with a red and a green salsa. Easy way to kick off the meal. As there is not a location near me any longer, we traveled to the original location. It was bustling with an attentive waitstaff and lots of people watching. Complementary valet (of course we tip) is a great benefit as parking is slim. Our waitress was Kady. She's been there for 50 years! Talk about an original. She was attentive to our needs but all business. We started with guacamole and queso. Guac was a huge portion with all the add ins. Queso was delish and served with fried flour tortillas (my fav). The gratis green dip, red sauce, and thick, crisp chips were on par. The fajitas. Just so so. Honestly, it reminded me of Taco Cabana. Very disappointing. Very little flavor and tough. The rice was yucky, the refried beans were the worst! Reminded us of the frito lay bean dip in a can. Even the Borracho beans were bad. HEB's in the can are far better. We received 2 corn and 2 flour tortillas. Fajitas served with pico, guac, sour-sour cream (I didn't even like that). Iced tea was fair. All in all, Fajitas very disappointing. If we had not been on the best fajita quest, I most likely would have ordered the chicken caldo soup. That never disappoints.

For drinks, my husband and our friends tried some of the margaritas from their large and unique margaritas menu, as well as their hibiscus agua fresca. The chips were on the thicker side, but were crispy and not stale or chewy at all. Each of the salsas were quite different, and two were served warm, which we really liked! For the price, I'd consider getting the chips and salsa as a non-negotiable, honestly. For entrees, we tried the enchilada rojas, chilaquiles verde w/ chicken and beef, birria barbacoa ramen, and huaraches. My husband felt like his ramen could have included more meat, but aside from that everyone really enjoyed what they ordered. The highlight was probably the desserts, though! We got a quatro leches and two ordered of their giant and amazing churros. Both were incredibly tasty and reason enough to return for another visit in the future!

The world is full of Mexican restaurants…read more Most are some version of Tex-Mex in a family-friendly, relatively similar environment. Nothing wrong with that. Mexican Sugar breaks that mold completely. This is the most legit, wonderful, bougie, over-the-top Mexican restaurant I have ever been to, and I mean that as the highest compliment possible. This was my second trip to Mexican Sugar. The first was in Grapevine. After this visit to the Montrose location, I have officially decided that when I am in Texas, I will seek these places out. They are that good. First, dress up. I doubt there is an actual dress code, but this is not the place where I am showing up looking like I just finished mowing the yard. Come here to be seen. Come here to show out a little. The place is beautiful and has that kind of vibe. Second, the drinks. Hell yes. Fancy, creative, excellent, and impressive enough for even the person who has seen every ridiculous cocktail presentation imaginable. And then there is the food. My God, the food. The salsa and queso are legit AF. The street corn is heaven in a bowl. Get several orders. I am serious. One is not enough. The carne asada was amazing. Honestly, I could keep going, but at some point this review is just going to become me yelling about how much I love Mexican Sugar. I LOVE MEXICAN SUGAR. OK, YOU GET THE IDEA. WHY AM I YELLING? At brunch, the papas bravas come as small cubes of fried potato with an airy crunch that gives way to a soft, pillowy center - the kind of deeply satisfying bite that makes conversation briefly irrelevant. Crisp prosciutto adds salt, aioli brings richness, and smoky chile sauce keeps it lively. They're served with cactus-handled toothpicks, which are almost offensively adorable. The chilaquiles divorciados are another hit. The chips are dressed with salsa rather than drowned beneath it, so each one arrives ready for the perfect bite. It's a small distinction, but an important one. Then there are the enfrijoladas: rolled quesadillas in fluffy tortillas, covered in creamy black bean sauce and plated with more care than bean and cheese might seem to warrant. The dish is fundamentally simple, but that's the point. Soft tortilla, savory beans, melted cheese, bright salsa. Familiar ingredients transformed into something deeply comforting--the culinary equivalent of curling up beneath a warm blanket on a cold morning, even if Houston rarely provides one. Dinner shifts into another gear. The crudos are sensational, especially the tuna tiradito - a rolling wave of flavor and texture. The tacos are excellent across the board, but the crispy maitake mushrooms are unmatched. The short ribs arrive juicy and tender on a mole negro that doesn't sit politely in the background. It lands dark, complex, and full of flavor. And then there's the masa cornbread, a masterpiece of unapologetic indulgence. Humble cornbread meets savory-sweet mole, smoky, earthy butter, and caviar. It sounds like too much. It isn't. Every element earns its place. The cocktails deserve their own warning. They're the kind that convince you to keep ordering the same drink all night. By the end, you may have forgotten what was in it. What you'll remember is that it was refreshing, perfectly balanced, and exactly what you needed.
