An incredibly special shop unlike anything in the neighborhood! I am always amazed when I remember they opened in the heart of COVID shutdowns because they are operating at such a high level already. I am still figuring out my preferences and tastes when it comes to wine, and I feel lucky that I have a warm and non-fussy place like Cellary to explore. I love that Cellary is all about honoring history - both of the wine and the people who make it, and of the bike shop itself that sat in their storefront before them. (They even have a sweet tribute plaque to the bike store inside!) At the same time, there is an effort to highlight innovative makers - including women/minority owned vineyards. Beyond the wines, what is most special about Cellary is the people who run it. Catherine, Preark and the whole Cellary crew are incredibly warm and welcoming - they have created the small local business experience of dreams. Went inside searching for small, discreet canned wines that are perfect for the nearby parks, to bring to an outdoor party, or to the beach. The employee who helped me was very descriptive in what the shop had to offer and gave me some great recommendations. I really appreciate their selection of smaller, local wines as it's always a nice feeling to contribute to smaller businesses. The cans I purchased (Nomadica is the brand) were perfect for a warm day outside. Lastly, it's great Cellary is so close to the both Foodtown and Little Cupcake if you're in need of snacks to pair with your libations. I'll be back! read more

We walked in there looking for a wine as a gift for someone, and they were very very helpful. We described the types of wine the person drinks and they knew a lot about all of their wines. They also didn't try to sell us anything crazy expensive, she was suggesting affordable, good wines that she has tried herself (around $20-$30). If you need a place to get help about specific wine suggestions I strongly suggest coming here. She was able to help us pick out a bottle within minutes. We ended up buying 2 because they were so helpful and affordable. They were also very very friendly and you can tell it's a local, hardworking business. 10/10 recommend buying your wines from here. read more

Got a bottle of wine here that was unfortunately spoiled due to a crumbled/dry cork that allowed the wine to oxidize. I called the store to ask what their return/exchange policy was and even though it was only 5 minutes until her closing time, she said she'd stay for a while after while she's cleaning to make sure she could exchange the bottle for a new one. Why did I take this long to write this.. been coming here since they opened. where do I start without being long winded.. both owners are so warm, sweet and welcoming. Catherine, extremely knowledgeable about wine. I don't know anything about wine, except I like red and dry.. she'll always take the time to educate me the birth of its origin, down to the soil. I always joke with her, I don't know what you're saying but sure I trust you, give me the wine.. and yet still does it anyway. I appreciate that so so much. She's just gentle, sweet and patient. I've been in the service industry, so I'm critical when it comes to customer service and rarely will you have this light and energy from a place. (Especially in NY) Even if both the owners are not there, their other workers are just as welcoming. Oh, the wine.. HUGE AMAZING SELECTION of beautiful wine! And of natural organic wine!! I love wine and drink it often. Naturally I was very happy to see a new wine shop move into Bay Ridge. It was unfortunate that when I went in, I stood waiting for help while the woman who was working there (maybe the owner?) discussed how she met her husband for 10 minutes with the only other customer in the store. Meanwhile, I was not even given the courtesy of a "hello" nor an "I will be right with you." Could it be that I did not have the right look to be afforded these common courtesies? I left without buying anything. Bottom line, I hope this is not going to be one of those snobbish "Park Slope" type wine shops. This is Bay Ridge, a down to earth and friendly community. read more
