As longtime fans of the original Cellarmaker location from our days living in San Francisco, we were incredibly excited to check out their Oakland spot. We made it a pitstop on our drive up to Napa on a Thursday afternoon around 1:00 PM, and it did not disappoint. We found easy street parking right outside, and walked around the corner to find their large garage doors open, creating a vibrant and inviting atmosphere. The Vibe & Exceptional Service Because it was a weekday afternoon, the taproom was fairly quiet, and we easily snagged a couple of seats at the bar. The bartender was absolutely wonderful, super welcoming, friendly, and chatty. What really stood out was watching her connect with every other customer who walked in, making everyone feel right at home. The Drinks As expected from Cellarmaker, the beer list is extensive and incredibly tempting. You almost want to work your way through the entire board! We opted for a few tasters to pair with lunch. While every pour was amazing, the absolute highlight of the trip was their Barleywine, a true standout that you shouldn't miss if it's on tap. The Food We ordered a mix of slices and a salad to share: The Detroit-Style Slices: My husband grabbed a slice of the Cheese and the Bolognese, while I went with the Pesto. The pizza has a fantastic, thick crust, and my slice featured a wonderfully generous helping of flavorful pesto. The Caesar Salad: Word of warning from a self-proclaimed Caesar salad freak: this salad is massive and definitely meant for sharing! We ended up splitting it, and it was phenomenal. The dressing was rich, delicious, and creamy, topped with perfectly crispy, well-seasoned croutons. The Verdict Whether you are a longtime fan or a first-timer, this location is an absolute must-visit. Incredible hospitality, top-tier beers, and fantastic food. We love stopping into Cellarmaker for dinner & beers anytime we're in Oakland for work. This space is large and airy with a comfortable atmosphere. There is ample seating, including a small bar along the open brewery and a patio outside. We absolutely love their pizza. The Detroit style pizza is delicious and the 4 slices are easy to split between 2 people. If you're extra hungry, their Ceasar salad is really good. They always have a large selection of house brewed beers in a variety of styles; a huge reason why we love coming here. We know there will always be core beers we're familiar with along with new ones to try. Bartenders are always incredibly friendly and if it happens to be a slow day or night, conversation with them is pleasant. Definitely a gem! We stopped into Cellarmaker Brewing Company during a day of brewery hopping in Oakland and liked the overall experience. We ordered the Young Guava Be Kidding Me apple guava seltzer, which was light and refreshing, and we also tried the Fête de Pils, a French pilsner, which we weren't the biggest fans of. There was a good variety on the menu, so it felt like there were options for different preferences. We ordered a supreme pizza to go with our drinks. It ended up being much spicier than expected, which caught me off guard a bit, but the flavor was still good. The crust really stood out, with a great texture that held everything together well. Even though we only had the pizza, everything coming out of the kitchen looked really yummy and worth trying on a future visit. We stopped by Cellarmaker Oakland for lunch after visiting the Oakland Vintage Market. They weren't super busy on a Saturday, but it may have been an awkward time of day. The interior was spacious with the typical industrial vibe of a brewery, and full of plants. I especially loved the hanging plants on the bar. We ordered right from the table (Toast QR Code), which was convenient. We skipped drinks and just ordered food. I chose the Autumn Harvest Salad and Detroit Red Top Slice, and we also got Triple Cooked Potatoes and Brussels Sprouts for the table. Both the Potatoes and Brussels Sprouts were awesome! They were perfectly crispy and everything had great flavor. My Red Top Slice was just alright. I'm definitely partial to thin-crust pizza, and this one was a bit too greasy for me. There was also just so much dough in comparison to the toppings. My Autumn Harvest Salad was very large! I feel like this was also a shareable item, but I ended up taking half of it home for dinner. We'd already eaten lunch, so we stopped in planning to sample a beer flight. Turns out they don't do traditional flights, but they do offer 5-oz pours of all 12 of their beers, which honestly worked just as well. The pours come out on a board with a description of each beer, which was a nice touch and made it easy to keep track of what we were trying. We ended up tasting three different beers along with a pineapple tonic...everything was really good and we liked a few of them enough to grab some to take home. As soon as we sat down, I noticed the pretzel chips on another table and had to order them. For five bucks, they're an absolute steal. Fresh, crunchy, and paired perfectly with the honey mustard dip. Definitely worth getting. Our server was friendly, knowledgeable, and checked in on us just the right amount without hovering. The only reason I'm not giving this place five stars is that it was pretty chilly inside a little heat on a cold day would have made it much more comfortable. The original Cellarmaker location downtown SF was an absolute favorite brewery- super tiny, loved, and really personal both with other customers and the staff. This new location in Oakland kind of feels the opposite: it's new and modern, but so impersonal as everything is done through your phone. The space is conveniently located around other breweries, so it's easy to add to a beer crawl. They have a solid food menu too, the salad I had was wonderfully fresh. The pizza was great too. I was thankful they still had the old style menus, brought to the table on a thick clipboard. Of course their beer is still lovely. We also grabbed 3 pizzas including the red top, mushroom, and porky fig. Out of the three, the red top was the best. The tomatoes were very fresh and you could taste some acidity from the tomatoes in the pizza. I liked the mushroom pizza next and the porky fig was good but not quite what I was expecting. I love beer and Cellarmaker always has great brews, but I have to say the pizza is amazing! I stopped in late and sat at the bar and chatted with the bartender. In the past, I've always ordered the Detroit style but this time I decided I wanted to try the "Bar Pie" and was not disappointed. Detroit style is deep dish, in comparison the Bar Pie is thinner crust but not cracker thin and has a delightful crispy, cheesy crust. I had the basic pepperoni and it came out hot and the pepperoni was plentiful. In addition, I tried the seasonal Strong Holiday Ale, which tastes like Christmas in a class. I've been waiting to try Cellarmaker for the longest time and what a treat it was to finally have the opportunity to swing by the Oakland location. Hearing pizza recs from a bunch of friends, we tried the bar style pie (cheese and then a cheese and pepperoni), the Detroit Red Top, the House Caesar, and the hot link fritters. Oh, and of course, the house ranch! Honestly, I'm a fan of the bar pie. I've watched so many pizza shows/pizza review shows that I've always wondered what a bar pie would taste like in the East Bay and kinda love the no frills while staying true to a nice crisp, authentic taste, flavor, and wholesome ingredients. I've been a fan of their beers for years now. I've never actually been to one of the brewery locations, but have had their beers when it was on tap at beer bars or when friends within my craft beer group have brought cans/bottles to shares. This location is right by Jack London square (if not located within the square?). The space feels like a hybrid brewery and a clean, nicer pub/ restaurant. In terms of service, you order at the bar/ counter when you walk in or you can order from a QR code (toast tab if I recall) and they bring your food and drinks. A friend of mine said their bar pies were really great, so that's what I wanted to order. They also have Detroit style pizzas that sound and look delicious (maybe next time). I ended up ordering the seasonal bar pie, which at the time, was the fall harvest. The toppings just sounded so amazing. A variety of fresh seasonal vegetables.... the pie is cut up like a grid so you can pick up small pieces and eat easily and these are very shareable. The crust had nice caramelized cheese that provided a nice crunch and concentrated flavor. Just a really big fan. I would love to try the pepperoni, but it's hard to pass up the seasonal pies. Oh and as luck would have it, they had one of their barrel aged stouts (my fave!!!) on tap during the visit. It was the Old Rip Van Winkle Vastness of Space. It had everything I loved about BA stouts. I rated it high on Untappd as well (the high average suggests I'm not alone in loving this beer). It's been on my list to try this new place in Jack London. We order the birria pizza and polenta fries and 2 beers. The beers did not impress me much since there are so many competitors in the area, but the food, the food was worth a visit. The polenta friends was fried to perfection and eaten with that marinara, it was a match made in heaven. The marinara was flavorful and rich, the sauce itself is worth visiting this place. The pizza? But if you are ordering as a group or family, only the person ordering can see the menu. So, I recommend there should be an ability to see the menu only. As for the food, I found the Caesar salad a little boring in taste and ingredients. I wish I just tried the sisig lettuce. The 16" pizza was expensive at $32. I'm usually not one to rate a brewery solely on the taste of their beers, everyone has their own taste, but the beer here was absolutely not my thing. My boyfriend and I each got a flight so we tried seven different beers total, and we only remotely liked one of them. And at ~$25 for a flight of 4 beers, that I either didn't drink or forced myself to down, it was a very unenjoyable time and money down the drain. We also tried a variety of the beers, probably just about every style they made, so it wasn't even that one of the styles just wasn't a strong suit. The spot also really isn't even a brewery, but rather a restaurant that serves beers. Yes, they do brew their own beers on site, but if you aren't eating and just want a beer, you're limited to standing room around a couple barrels outside or one of a handful of seats at the bar. The place was packed with people ordering pizzas, so I'm sure their food is good, just not the brews. Was also bummed that they only had one of the rare barrel sours on tap, other than that you'd have to get them by the bottle. On a positive note, it's dog friendly outside and the bartender was nice! The water also tasted great, best thing I had while there! There's street parking on all the surrounding blocks, most of which was in the 2-4 hour range. read more

I give this place a 2 out of 5. It's a nice spot, but some things could be better. I went on a Sunday night. You have to order using your phone by scanning a QR code, but since I was going to pay with cash, I couldn't complete the order. That's why I went inside to ask for help. I was sitting outside and tried to get the attention of a tall girl with curly hair I think her name was Imy. I asked her for help, but she didn't really respond and kind of ignored me. I had to walk over to her and ask again. She told me to go back to the counter and said she would help me, but instead she went to clean a table and didn't come back. I felt ignored. Luckily, another worker named Tío helped me. He was super friendly and professional. Honestly, he saved my experience. We ordered a pepperoni pizza, a crab sandwich, and a chicken pot pie. I don't recommend the chicken pot pie the flavor wasn't great and it didn't really taste like a real pot pie. After we finished eating, the same girl walked past our table a few times and didn't clear the plates. I was excited to see Jack London Square get another delicious brewery. I've definitely enjoyed their beers from picked them up at bottle shops and collaborations with other breweries. I've always heard good things about their pizza so I was amped to see this location would also have pizza. On opening day is was super busy by the time I got there after work. Luckily my friend Ross had a spot at the bar. We eventually got a table outside and closed the place down. They have an array of different beers, ranging from pilsner to lagers to WC IPAs to hazies to porters all the way to stouts. I love when breweries have a variety so everyone can find their favorite. With the collaborations with other Bay Area breweries, it's endless new recipes for evolving trends and taste buds. The food is great, slightly elevated then typical brewery grub but not too stuffy. Pizzas are awesome and so are the small bites. There's lots of seating inside and out. Definitely a great addition to the breweries in JLS. read more
