I wanted it to be good because Cape Girardeau needs something of this nature. Food was horrible and overpriced for what you get. Organization is completely a wreck. The idea is awesome, but they don't deliver. We had a reservation and they knew we were flying into town. We did the pre fixe menu. At least 12 people at the table and 4 menus. Stuffed mushrooms were good. Everything else was underwhelming. Strip steak was not strip steak. Definitely nothing to write home about. read more

Celebrations! I went to school in Cape and my sister goes there now... my best friend also lives there, so I end up in good ole' Cape G quite a bit. I thought I had been to every restaurant possible, but randomly saw Celebrations on my Yelp app. I asked my best friend about it and I think she had always brushed it off because it seemed really formal (and not somewhere we'd go in our usual jeans and boots Cape G get-ups.) Little did we know, this place is awesome (and you can still wear your jeans!) I'm not saying you shouldn't wear your fancy clothes, because most do... but they'll still gladly have you if you aren't dressed up. They'll also have you if you don't have reservations (we pretty much violated every unwritten rule at this place.) Parking is right next door which was nice and easy, and since we went earlier in the evening they were able to seat us right away. The first thing I noticed is that it was very, very quiet. Luckily as the place filled up it got louder thanks to laughs and conversations, but some music would be a great addition. Our server was very nice but seemed nervous... he warmed up as the evening went along and ended up being wonderful. Our wine glasses were always full, and he was very attentive. We started our meal off with the stuffed mushrooms, and I can't recommend them enough - just so fantastic. They were perfectly cooked and stuffed with herbed cream cheese and seasoned bread crumbs. My entree is what really stole the show, however, and I would order it again and again... the pan roasted chicken breast. It's served with mushroom and asiago bread pudding, Haricot Vert, and roasted garlic veloute. This dish is worth every bit of the $18 they charge. It was so hard to say no to dessert, but we were way too full to even go there. I'm so glad we ventured to Celebrations, and I will definitely be going back the next chance I get. The patio area was charming...very romantic. There are several tables, a fountain and twinkly lights. The interior was pretty terrific--I loved the art! There's a little library as you enter, where you can have a drink, if you like. There's a bar, many tables and a room for private parties, as well. I have heard nothing but fantastic things about the food. In fact, I have heard that they have the best food in Cape Girardeau. I called ahead so I could get some idea as to what to wear. I arrived about 15 minutes after opening. I was the only customer. The bartender greeted me and I told him that I would be dining alone, he informed me that he would seat me at the bar "so I would be more comfortable." It was at that moment that I became UNcomfortable. I was under the impression that I should decide if I would sit at the bar, after all, I was the only customer and would not be "taking up" a table for two with customers waiting to grab my seat. I also wondered if he would have said the same thing to a male customer. Maybe I'm reading too much into the situation, but I felt like I was being relegated to the bar. In this century, women are allowed to dine alone. It was bound to happen once we got to vote. And yes, I left. read more

We love hole-in-the-wall restaurants, but we also love indulging in 'fine' cuisine. Celebrations is a true diamond in the rough. Coming from a city with a handful of AAA four diamond restaurants and several chefs who competed on Food Network's Iron Chef, and/or have won prestigious awards, we did not have high hopes of finding an excellent dining experience in Cape Girardeau, but Celebrations restaurant was a pleasant find. It is set in an old house that has been renovated into a restaurant so it offers that cozy feeling of a house. The rooms are small and are nicely decorated. There is even a nice small private room for a special occasion romantic dinner with a wall composed of strategically placed wine corks. We ordered off the prix fix menu which offered 4 courses for only $50, which I thought was reasonable for a fine dining restaurant. The first course was ham topped with an over-easy egg with a delicious fava bean sauce. It was flavorful and well presented. Our second course was a perfectly cooked filet of salmon served with a scrumptious corn succotash and tomato sauce. Our main entrée was beef tenderloin which was outstanding and cooked to perfection. The dessert was a raspberry sorbet float that was just ok, nothing to write home about. Our friend went with the server's recommendation and ordered the banana crème pie--the portion was HUGE and he devoured every bit of it. Overall, the food is delicious and presentation is elegant and lovely. Improvements in areas such as the in house air conditioner machine and a few other nuances (i.e. novice knowledge of the servers and bartender on 'common' drink terminology and cocktails and lack of common cocktail items such as fresh blueberries, basil, and pineapple) would elevate the dining experience. Celebrations restaurant is a true diamond in the rough, we will definitely return. Every experience will be exciting since the menu changes almost weekly. read more

We ordered the meatballs and mushrooms for starters. Great taste and I highly recommend the meatballs. For main course, I went with the Antelope, Sweet Potato and Brussel Sprouts. Celebrating the New Year with son had a delicious dinner the Lamb shank was my choice it was so delicious loved it with the Spätzle mushroom hash was so good. Son said the Pond and Pasture was so tender, the fish could had used a little acid but the skin was so crispy. Such an amazing experience! Wonderfully timed service, a knowledgeable wait staff, and delicious entrees. We ordered a cheese plate that had great pairings, the Dory fish, and the pan crusted chicken. There was so much food - don't let the upscale place settings fool you! We were served more than enough food for leftovers and were even presented a complimentary banana cream pie for dessert to celebrate my birthday. If i could give this restaurant 10 stars, i would, its THAT good!!! I have visited this gem of a restaurant twice, traveling from over an hour away, and each time it was a Celebration for my tastebuds! I have eaten off the prix fixe menu and created my own version of a prix fixe menu as well. I have not eaten a bad plate here! Definitely go for the wine pairing option with your prix fixe menu, the wait staff are incredibly knowledgeable about the wines, and the wines are absolutely amazing with their pairings. This restaurant has allowed me to try foods i have never tried before, including escargot! oh, and the Bananna Cream Pie is HEAVEN. The ambiance is very homey, and the lighting is low enough to create an intimate setting, even in a room with 5 or 6 tables. This restaurant would beat out top restaurants i have eaten at in Chicago, New York and London, for sure! I still consider driving the 4 1/2 hours just to visit this restaurant! read more

Was in town and visited again Friday night and while the food was still fantastic, the service was horrible. There was an obnoxiously loud table of 6 behind us that the waiter absolutely doted on while he completely ignored us. It took 20 minutes to even get our menus and drink order in. Over an hour before our appetizers arrived, another 30 minutes for our meals. Our water kept running out and not getting filled. This is now a fantastic food place being ruined by inattentive wait staff. Thankfully the bartender was great and we were able to get a drink from him while waiting the 20 minutes to get our menus. read more

Use to be #1. Has slide off the chart. Waiter beyond slow and non attentive. Prices are still sky high. They served some piece of Kale with some sauce on it as a free preview. The comment I and others at the table had was it looked like what we accidentally dropped on the floor. The main course was ok, but certainly not worth the price. The Lemon desert cake thing was uneatable. The cake tasted like it was 2 months old. Not fresh at all. Nothing lasts forever and unfortunately this place has run it's course. They were out of many menu items on the menu like certain types of fish. I suspect it will be closing the doors sooner than later. There are several much better choices in Cape to spend your hard earned $$$ on an upscale meal. Too Bad! read more

I had dinner with three friends on a Friday night recently. We had a reservation and the restaurant was fairly busy. I had tried to go and look at them menu on the Celebrations web site, but it was very out of date -- from the summer of 2016. They need to get that fixed. The service here is outstanding. Our server, Kerry, was knowledgeable and solicitous. He made recommendations and answered questions about the menu. We started with an amuse bouche of a grape coated in gorgonzola and nuts. It was not the prettiest amuse I've ever seen, but it was delicious and packed a flavor punch. Two of us had the Caesar salad and it was very nice. It was light and lemony with excellent homemade dressing and croutons. One diner had the farmhouse salad and ate all of it. The other had the onion soup and said it was good, but a bit heavy. All of us ordered steaks. I had a strip with a potato gratin and grilled asparagus. The gratin was the best I've ever eaten and the asparagus was delicious. The steak was a bit overcooked (more medium than medium rare) but the flavor and seasoning was very nice. Everyone else had the filet mignon and raved about it. I tasted a piece and I agree. I'll probably go with the filet the next time I visit. For dessert two of us shared a creme broulee and two shared a chocolate torte. The torte was very good, but the creme broulee was out of this world! Fantastic. This is an expensive place and probably one I'll only visit on special occasions, but it was a wonderful dining experience. read more

Back that with the world class wine and beer selections (Wine Spectator Award of Excellence more than 10 years in a row) and the professionalism of the house staff and you have a real Five Star establishment. James and Pat Allen have put together the best of everything and will keep winning praise for it. I know the staff personally and would tell Jeanie M. that I am certain there was a misunderstanding. Celebrations is hands down my favorite restaurant for food and atmosphere with friends. We appreciate great food and we have traveled extensively to appreciate a variety. There is just nothing like this restaurant's atmosphere and delicious food. Just the name itself says it all. My wife and I have literally celebrated 100's of milestones and special moments in our life and that probably has something to do with our affinity of this place. If you haven't been you have to go. I am from out of town and called to make reservations based on the fact that the reviews online said they catered to Gf /df. I have a hard time finding inventive dishes outside of big cities that cater to my dietary restrictions- I figured I'd give this place a try. The dishes were inviting, as well: rockfish, spotted bass, grilled scallops , etc. When we arrived, we were surprised it was inside an unassuming old house- almost hidden. As we walked closer , we were pleasantly greeted by the old sounds of Louis Armstrong, Billy Holiday, and other greats... the outside patio was calling our names so that is where we chose to sat. There was a subtle fountain, some palm-like plants... reminiscent of the tropics. There were a few other tables , but only one still eating once we were seated, around 7:30. The inside was dimly lit, tastefully decorated and we were greeted immediately . Our server was young and sweet - I could tell she was either new or still learning but she was great- very attentive. We chose the scallops as an appetizer and they melted in our mouths ... seriously , kept making noises they were so good! They were cooked to perfection and the sauces, as well as the accompaniments couldn't have been better. I chose the rockfish with baby shrimp and squash as my entree. The chef prepared it special for me using gluten-free and dairy -free ingredients . I regret not taking any photos of my meal or my date's meal. It was very juicy and tender in the inside and crispy on the outside . Probably the best rockfish I've ever had and I've had it several times. My date had a roasted chicken with an asiago cream sauce and a mushroom risotto bread pudding alongside sautéed squash , as well. He said it was delicious. He chose a sour beer and I chose a wine cocktail with St Germaine and Prosecco. The combination of the service, the impeccable food, the music, the drinks, and romantic ambiance will bring us back to this perfect spot as much as I will be able to travel all the way out to Cape Girardeau, Mo from Akron, Ohio. Amazing service. I really felt I was on a cruise ship on vacation! Food is very good too, all sorts of tastes my tongue was giving me I never knew I had. Their oils are good and their spices are fresh. I had the steak and seabass and the steak was some of the best I had in the midwest. I've had better seabass though. They gave complimentary dessert since it was my birthday so I might be slanted in my rating. We have eaten here several times, celebrating birthdays, anniversaries, graduations, and just an over due date night. Never disappointed! One of the owners almost always greets us at the door and personally checks in on us during our meal. They have a great attention to detail and a nice atmosphere. We visited Celebrations on a Friday night for the first time in about eight years. We made a reservation in advance, though I'm not sure it was necessary. We started with wine (by the glass -- the bottle list was a bit over our heads), and both the Pinot and Malbec were very good. We each had a bowl of the winter squash soup. We both enjoyed the soup. For our entrees, my wife ordered the New York strip, which was perfectly cooked and accompanied by interesting sides. I ordered the venison, and it was also excellent. The service was professional and friendly. Despite being Cape's "fancy" restaurant, it is a very welcoming and comfortable establishment. I recommend Celebrations. read more

I think this restaurant understands what it takes to turn a meal into a dining experience. Their venue, a converted residence, was perfect in that it had lots of dining areas which kept noise to a minimum and encourages a cozy atmosphere. Our server had the perfect tone of friendly, but not overbearing, and encouraged a slow and thoughtful evening. Of course, the food was amazing also.
