First, I work with infectious diseases and am majoring in public health/epidemiology, so I have a keen eye for sanitation in service industries. It's very clean and they do a great job cleaning chairs after they've been used. They are also incredibly nice and welcoming people who focus all their attention to you. I was asked throughout my mani/pedi if I was okay and if I liked how it was turning out. I was also given water throughout even though I hadn't asked for any. Not to mention they do a paraffin wax/massage free of charge. The prices are about on par to other places in the area but definitely more service. Great place to get our nails done!! I love how much is included in your regular pedicure and manicure. I've gotten numerous shellac manis and pedicures here. Manicures/Pedicures include the paraffin wax, which I love! My go to guy was Steven he gives the best massages on your feet and back and he's very precise with how your nails looks. He takes his time and makes sure they look good. My shellac would usually last 2 1/2 - 3 weeks but I would always come in earlier so I could get a massage. I've had the spa pedicure as well which includes the callus remover, exfoliant scrub, an oil rub with hot rocks and a few other things. This is a good pedi to do every 3 months or so to renew the skin on your feet but not an every time you go pedicure. I just recommend getting the regular with the callus remover (extra $5 but so worth it!) Definitely make an appointment before you go because if you try to walk in and they're busy (which they always are) they'll turn you away at the door. read more

I used this nail salon twice and have mixed feelings. They do their best to accommodate high volumes, few employees speak English and that is a very uncomfortable situation when you're trying to communicate. One nail tech translates for another and maybe, if you're lucky your request is understood. Hot rock massage is good, paraffin treatment nice but, plastic wrap is overused, and waste is extream. As far as Nail salons go they do take some best safety practices into consideration, such as plastic liners for pedi bowls, individual pedi file kits, and perhaps proper sanitizing of nippers, but one can never tell. The nail tech, Will was rough, borderline rude and manicure a mediocre result at best. Toni my pedi attendant took a smoke break in between my Pedi, hurt my toes yet, I believe did his best. I found this absolute gem on accident when I first moved to Groton and was looking for a decent mani/pedi. I will never go anywhere else as a regular! Cedar Spa provides high quality, sanitary, relaxing service at a right price. Manicures and pedicures include paraffin wax and an unbelievable massage. Call to make an appointment as they are always busy and it's tough to get a spot as a walk in. Also, tips are cash only. Had a wonderful experience at Cedar - highly recommended. I searched Yelp for a nail place in New London, and Cedar popped up. It's just over the bridge in Groton, and a bit tucked away at the far end of a strip mall. I actually drove past it and had to turn around. When you see Goodwill and TJ Maxx, turn in at that light and it's to the left. I unfortunately didn't heed the suggestions of Yelpers and went without an appointment. I arrived around 11:30 and was told they couldn't take me until 1:00. I came back around 12:50 and was taken right away. The place is definitely busy and all of the technicians were helping customers the entire time I was there. The establishment is open and bright. Nice massage pedicure chairs and new-ish looking mani tables. I didn't wear a ring but another customer had one on for her manicure, and the technician put it in cleaning solution while she was getting her nails done - a really nice touch I thought! I also appreciated that all the technicians, including the one I was working with, were very vocal with the customers, always asking about preference for things like length of nail and making sure things weren't painful. The technicians do not wear gloves during the appointments, so for those of us with latex allergies there is nothing to worry about. A mani pedi is $40 (or $12 and $30 separately) and includes a paraffin dip. The technician was great and did a wonderful job cleaning up my very unkempt cuticles. I really appreciated the back massage during the manicure, which I was expecting because of the Yelp reviews but was still a welcome surprise because it was so good! I know everyone says they only take cash tips, but I overheard another customer paying her bill, and she simply asked the technician to add the tip to the total bill before running her credit card, so it was included on the card. My girlfiend took me to Cedar Nails, and I was very pleased! I am someone who is very leary of nail salons due to their commonplace sanitation violations, but Cedar is clean and I felt very comfortable there. The staff is very friendly, and I fell in love with their vibrating massage chairs that you sit in for the pedicure. I was also impressed that the nail and foot services come with paraffin treatments, a great deal for the price! The nail technician gave me two back massages during my time with her. They took the time to make sure our nails looked exactly the way we wanted, and I felt the techinicians were profesionnal and very detail-oriented. I also thought it was very considerate of them to avoid having long conversations with each other in foreign languages; this can make a client feel isolated or neglected. They seem to read people well and we both had a pleasant experience. I would definately go back! read more

What a gem in SE CT. All of the staff are extremely friendly and skilled. The salon is clean and bright with a wide selection of regular polish colors as well as Shellac. Both manis and pedis receive wax treatments included in the price, which is already extremely reasonable. The staff are thorough and this requires some extra time since they go leaps and bounds to offer multiple massages throughout each treatment. So if you are looking for a quick paint and dry, go elsewhere. This is a relaxation experience. The only thing I can say is they only take cash tips, so come prepared for that. They did a wonderful job on my daughter (5) and my manicures and pedicures. We both had a nice and relaxing time. The only issues was when the lady went to was my eye brows she was trying to use a stick she had used previously on someone. I asked her to switch sticks and she did. But she couldn't understand why and continued to double dip my stick in the was lot over and over again. - in case wondering minds have never thought of this; hot wax pots are a breading ground for bacteria and turning up the heat on a wax pot Wil not get rid of bacteria. It will only breed further and great a better breading environment. Some things that can be transferred this way is foliculitus and other seem problems. Also, there is a huge debate that herpes can also be transmitted this way. read more

They give a decent pedicure and its a plus that they end with a massage and use paraffin wax. Something that I think is odd is that they have a hair clip at the end of their drying station that they use to clip up the hair of long-haired clients in order to give them a massage. I thought it was the person across from me's hair clip, but no, they use it on everyone. Really turned me off. **Also, side-note: when you buy a gift certificate they double charge for tax. I'm not sure what this means legally, but this is how I know; I bought a pedicure for my moms bday and they charged me the buyer tax on the purchase. No problem I thought, until I received a gift certificate myself a few months later and went to redeem it. They charged me tax again for redeeming it! I have been going to Cedar Nail Spa for years and I have noticed lately how it has been going downhill! I have been left waiting in the chair with no water in the foot bath and no acknowledgment after 15 minutes, had an appointment and waited 45 minutes to even get started and most recently I was just hung up on because she was too busy to rebook my appointment that I had to cancel because of an emergency! I called back and she hung up on me 6 times and then let the phone ring off the hook and didn't answer it! I have never been so rudely treated and as a regular customer I am livid! I was loyal to a fault! How rude can you be!!?!? I will never go back! How can you treat your customers like dirt? Because you're busy?? You have got to be kidding me!!??? I needed to change the day of my appointment and you hung up on me!!?? I hope your business goes to hell!! I will tell everyone and anyone who will listen to me about this!!! read more

Called and made an appointment for 410. I get there I was greeted and told to pick a color. I was then brought towards the back to have a seat. The lady lifted my arm rest. She asked me to pick what pedi I wanted and then walked away. I waited five minutes and multiple ppl walked by and I was just sitting there. No water in the pedi bowl or anyone acknowledging that they would be with me shortly. My mom comes and she lets the lady know she is with me. She tells her to pick a color and to go where I am . I wave to the lady and she say me but assumed I was waiving to my mom.My mom comes back and no one was getting her stuff ready or lifting up the chair arm. I decided to just get up and leave. As im putting my jacket on this lady stops and looks and says something and I ask are you doing my pedicure and she said no someone else would. I said I'm all set and asked... and walked out. A white women walked in while I was waiting and she was walked to her seat and her services began. My black dollars spend the same as anyone else. I will make sure to never bring them back here. I make appointments, and still end up waiting 30 minutes or more while they take other people who walked in before me - with no appointment. I will start by saying I am a nail SNOB. You know the people. Cedar Nail Spa was my go-to nail salon in the area for over two years. They used to do a decent job, a great parafin wax, etc. However, they've gone downhill tremendously. They have a few inexperienced nail techs so if you don't ask for someone in particular you're probably going to get a crappy manicure. So much so I actually had to tell the owner they didn't even touch my cuticles one time. I visited a couple times during COVID, they always followed protocols correctly. However, I went back last week because I needed a decent manicure before a trip and happen to have a full stamp card for a free manicure. I wanted JUST my fingers. I called the day before to make my appointment, I arrived on time and was seated right away. I quickly noticed that every nail tech was busy. I sat in the manicure chair for 30 minutes and no one even acknowledged me or told me it would be a few more minutes. I walked out with my full stamp card and will not be returning. They don't care if you have an appointment and on a schedule (or conversely) out for a nice relaxing day. It is always completely hectic with the owner running around over promising and under delivering. read more

I got a "regular" pedicure with exfoliation, wax mask, and epic massage foot, shin, and calf massage. Then while my nails were drying, they gave me a shoulder/neck hot stone massage. This was my first time here and I have heard great things from other friends however my technician Winnie was terrible. She looked half asleep, was not paying attention to what she was doing (looking around at other customers, kept stoping during my pedicure and spacing out). During the leg massage, if you want to call it that, she was barely massaging the cream in that's how light she was going. Then at the end of the pedicure I look at the bottoms of my feet and the rough patch I came in to smooth out was still there. The back massage was terrible, she literally was just leaning on my shoulders not moving acting like she was giving a massage. Cedar Nail Spa is the place to go for the full manicure-pedicure treatment at a very reasonable price. Everyone at Cedar is friendly and welcoming as soon as you walk in the door. I've enjoyed every experience I've had at Cedar, mainly because for a couple hours I feel completely pampered and relaxed. They have a great selection of traditional polishes (OPI, China Glaze, etc) in addition to many Shellac colors to choose from During the pedicure, you sit in luxurious leather massage chairs and are immediately given a cup of water before you receive exemplary foot treatment. They make sure water is always the perfect temperature for you and they let you soak for a few minutes before starting (rather than starting right away). Along with the typical foot scrub, nail trimming/shaping and polishing, you get a full blown foot and leg massage and a paraffin wax treatment for extra moisture. It is typically a relaxing 45-60 minutes for a pedicure. For the manicure, I am a fan of the Shellac polish, mainly because I always manage to mess up a fresh manicure within minutes with traditional polish. The manicurist removes any polish you came in with or cleans unpolished nails before the normal trimming/filing. They are expert cuticle snippers and have never cut too close (I've had problems with past salons where they snipped too deep causing me to bleed). They do an excellent job polishing and while you're drying, you get a hot-stone shoulder and back massage. At a different place, you'd probably pay an additional $25+ for this service, but at Cedar the massage is part of their amazing service. Once they have ensured the polish is dry, they scrub your hands/arms to exfoliate, followed by a lotion massage. Finally, you get a paraffin wax hand treatment (separate wax tub from the foot treatment) that seals in the moisture. Overall, you leave feeling relaxed and spoiled. It's too bad the Shellac polish lasts 2+ weeks; otherwise, I'd be at Cedar every week for some pampering. read more

I've been to Cedar Nail Spa a handful of times with my girlfriend. I got a pedi and dip powder nails. The first time I went the pedicure was very nice. $45 and they did a very thorough job! I was very impressed, I opted out of the paraffin wax because I tend to think it dries out my skin. Then I got my gel set removed and had them do the dip powder. I really wanted to try something to help my natural nail become less brittle. It's a pretty neat process. This most recent time, my friend called to set up an appointment with Casey, because she does amazing work and is attentive to details. A week ago, she made the apt for today for 1 and 2pm. We get there and the possibly owner or manager is like no. What do you mean no, we do have an apt. What she meant was no, because Casey wasn't in today due to an emergency. Now we don't mind that someone had the emergency, what do do mind is that they didn't call us prior that day to tell us the lady wasn't in. That's what I don't like about this business, if you can set up appointments maybe you should have a better system in place, with names and phones numbers to call in case of this, or to remind them of the appointment the day prior. So then we were trying to see if they had someone available to still take us, which the lady didn't quite understand, so we just left. Maybe next time we come in we'll try for no apt or leave our number at the set up so in case something happens, we make sure they call. My friend and I really do enjoy Casey's work. This place just rocks. Prices are decent and the customer service is amazing. I went in for a pedicure and didn't expect much (I'm jaded from all the other nail salons I've been to, so I'm never expecting more than just a nice scrub and some nail polish on my toes). Immediately upon entering, you're greeted with fresh smiles and "hellos" from almost ALL the staffers. They bring you water constantly, so that was a plus for me. Oh my goodness. This is the best place in the whole world. They massage you while nails dry, do the wax treatment on both hands and feet, and they even put my rings in a cleaning solution.
