Richard Fornaca is an amazing aircraft mechanic! His technical experience is amazing on its own but when you combine it with his deep concern for his clients, that really is an amazing combination. Richard knows how very concerned I am with my son's safety while flying. Knowing this, he takes special care to make sure that everything is in tiptop condition when he services our aircraft. That said, Richard does not recommend repairs that are not needed. He's not eager to spend my money. I trust Richard completely and simply say to him when discussing repairs - "What would you do if it was your son in the plane? That's what I want you to do for my son." I used to take my Cessna T182T to Howard Aviation at Brackett Field, a first class operation, but they closed sometime after the owner, Robin Howard, suffered a decline, sad. I got to know Rich at Corona, he did some work on my bird, including removing and reinstalling the turbo charger after a rebuild. I'm hangared at Corona. Flew to Riverside (KRAL) today to get some cheap fuel. My alternator went out on the way and I landed with a dead battery. I walked into CAVU as a complete stranger but was treated like an old friend. They were busy working on other planes but took the time to remove my battery and charge it so my wife and I could get home. Both owners were friendly and courteous. So I'm in Sacramento and found the airplane of my dream in Alabama. I posted on the fb buy sale and trade asking for a quote or if anyone knew anyone that's near KMVC. Brandon and his associate Richard responded that they were already on their way to pick up another airplane and offered their services at a very reasonable price. Within a week and a half, I got my results. Brandon was very helpful and very responsive every step of the way (great for a first time buyer like myself). Brandon did the log research thoroughly and researched all the ADs. they did a borescope of the engine and cylinders to check for corrosion and prepared a very thorough prepurchase inspection report with all airworthiness issues noted. With all that said, the seller agreed to fix all the airworthiness items, thereby lowering my end cost at the very end. All in all, I'm very pleased with Brandon and Richard here at Cavu services and cannot be more excited to pick up my airplane. Brandon even said he will help me identify what discrepancies to look for from the fixes that need to be rectified from the prepurchase. I've had one mechanic working on my aircraft for 25 years. Whenever I had a problem, he would always drop what he was doing and take the time to fix it so I could be on my way. Recently he announced his retirement and that he had sold his business. Of course it was then that I again needed help with a minor item. I called the new owner on a Wednesday and asked if they could help me out on Thursday. The new manager said "no" things were going to change and that I would no longer be able to have anything looked at without an appointment. I would just have to wait. I searched around and found CAVU aero service, not located at my airport but close by in Riverside, Ca. When I called the answer was " bring it over and we will fix it today".
