I thought for sure I had reviewed Cavita in the past but I guess not!
Well, it needs reviewing because Cavita is great. This is the best Mexican restaurant I've experienced in London. I'm not qualifying this statement either with any "For London" sentiment either: Cavita would be really good in any location that has Actually Good Mexican cusine. While I am not from Mexico City, I am a native Los Angelino currently living in London and I can tell you with strong confidence that if you're missing the flavors of home, head straight here.
Cavita makes a really good first impression. As you approach the restaurant from the outside, the very classic London surroundings of Marylebone will begin to fade away as your eyes focus on classic Southwest colors of Cavita's exterior; suddenly things a lot more New Mexico than they do Mayfair. The upstairs main interior is nice but the real star of the show is the downstairs bar. Normally I find London subterranean dininig and drinking to be a bit suffocating but Cavita is a very notable exception. The bar will absolutely transport you away from the UK into a moody and vibey hip Mexican spirits joint; I'll be coming back here a lot.
The food is great. I've been a few times and with each visit I've been mostly very happy. There are some classics like Tacos El Pastor and Cod Fish Tacos which are perfect executions of comfort classics. I've also tried more modern faire like the himachi toastada (light, refreshing, just a bit of tang) and the super delicious quesabirria which is bursting with savoury beef, ancho and chese flavors; this one is to die for. The only weak link I've experienced so far are the chicken skewers but hey, nobody's perfect.
Seriously, Cavita is great. Everyone should love coming here and enjoying the delicious food, but if you're from the Southwest of North America you will be especially delighted! read more
