I'm hesitant about ordering fish because I love it so much and it's hard to find a place who cooks it well but this place did it for me! I would order a little more of the sauce and squirt with lemon! We got some table guacamole and the salsa sampler. The green was our favorite. Had to get extra chips because they don't give you a lot... We also ordered the margarita flight. We loved he raspberry one. Ended up ordering 2 more regular sizes! Service is good. We stopped by for snacks and drinks, and not expecting much but overall pleasant experience. Food and cocktails were delicious and service was speedy. The ambiance is what one would expect in a busy touristy part of town but not too overwhelming. I would say more laid back and casual - great for groups and families. It was super easy to pay our check by using their QR code (we sat outside) and splitting the tab accordingly. It may not look like much from the outside but if you're in the mood for a quick bite and delicious cocktails then this is your spot. Overall solid experience - I do recommend. read more

We were a party of 6 in a basically empty restaurant. Margaritas were excellent and the food was decent, but the kitchen was painfully slow (45 minutes to get all meals) with no communication from the staff. Three dishes came out fairly quick with the remainder coming much later (ordered maybe 8 items). Ambience was casual and comfortable and everything seemed clean and well kept. Since we live in Southern California( home of a lot of good authentic Mexican restaurants), I wasn't expecting much from Wahaca. I had my share of Med food and pizza so I appeased my wife who wanted something different. They were out of a few things that we wanted, so we settled for veggie nachos. I wish there would have been more cheese sauce, some of the nachos were dry. The black beans had a nice flavor. I also had the squash/feta tostadas. Those were really tasty. I don't usually like winter( butternut) squash, but this one had a different flavor. Total for those 2 items and the service fee was 14 quid. read more

Whenever I miss Mexican food (which let's be real is every day but we live in London so whatcha gonna do), Wahaca is a small reminder of Mexican flavour and culture. There's a lot of dia de los muertos decor, bright colour, and of course plenty of tequila and mezcal to go around. There are Wahaca locations all over the city and the UK in general, so be sure to look up whichever one is nearest you instead of venturing out too far. This last visit, we ordered the guac to start. It's got a bit too much lime and not enough spice, but still decent. We then ordered 3 small plates each - buttermilk chicken tacos, grilled chicken quesadillas, and cod tacos. We also selected croquetas and frijoles for our sides. I really enjoyed the spicy chicken tacos, which allowed you to add on heat with a relish. The quesadillas were a bit too filling and didn't have much Mexican spice added. Loved the frijoles! I'd advise ordering something different during each visit to a Wahaca, as the menu is extensive. We were craving Mexican food while in London and decided to give Wahaca a try. It had a lively atmosphere with dim lighting and an "underground" feel, which we liked. Our server was great. We ordered a classic & passion fruit margaritas - both delicious. We also ordered guacamole & salsa with chips to start. We had to pay for the chips & salsa (which is different since most Mexican restaurants in the US give them for free). However, they are reasonably priced so it wasn't a big deal. We decided to try a variety of tacos as our entree. We went with the beef, pork and chicken and buttermilk chicken. They are small portion but tasty. We liked the pork the best. Our kids ordered cheese quesadillas and enjoyed them as well. We ended our meal with churros which everyone loved! Overall it was a great experience. However...we decided to visit again one more time before heading back to the states and while everything was pretty on par from our first visit - we had two waiters during our meal (which was confusing) but then we overheard them arguing about whose table we were. That made us feel uncomfortable and it was very unprofessional. Hopefully they can work these minor issues out behind closed doors in the future. read more

Tanya and I just got off the London Eye and started to look for someplace to dine. I had someplace in mind, but the GPS kept taking up somewhere else, so we just walked along the Thames to see if something caught our eye. After walking and walking and about to give up we stumbled upon Wahaca. What a great find this turned out to be. We ordered the salsa and one of each of there small plates. I knew we struck gold when I tasted their salsa. Flavor town just pulled up and smacked us in the mouth. And then the small plates arrived and we were in culinary heaven. My mouth is still drooling thinking about their food. They say it's street food, but it's food on Wall street. This is a foodie's paradise. Go asap. Wahaca is a solid choice for a quick lunch, or a chill dinner. This location is especially cool because of how it's set up. There's seating outside, and inside, and up high, and down low, and by the stairs, or... whatever your little heart desires. I tried their horchata and it's positively sweetly divine. Their side of rice and beans is also nice. I know right? Who comments on their rice and beans. I do. They are important. Their winter vegetable enchilada is also quite delicious. The only sad thing is I was hurrying to eat it after everyone finished their meal. They need to work on their timing, and I'm less understanding since there were probably only 3 other parties there at the time. Tisk Tisk. Anyway, it's not a bad choice. Service was great at first, after a while we struggled to get the attention of our server (or even see him) when we needed something. Wahaca is one of my favourite restaurant chains, both for their delicious food and fun atmosphere. The restaurant itself is very colourful and modern, which I think helps improve your mood and get you excited for the cocktails and the food. You can choose between smaller dishes to share or regular mains for each person, so it's great for groups and people who would like to try out a few things, and everyone else of course. Another thing I greatly enjoy is that the food itself is tasty with great flavours but the mild food is actually mild. I am not a fun of very hot foods and this is exactly the level I like. However, my friends who love hot food were also happy with the level of spicy that the spicy dishes were at. So no matter what your tolerance is, you will find something for you. I'd recommend checking one of their restaurants out and ideally going later so you can then stay for more drinks. Dinner before a night out would be ideal! read more

The restaurant was still short staffed, and the staff was obviously still getting used the new setting. My friends and I were seated immediately, but we sat at our table for a looong time before the waitress (yes, the one waitress) attended out table. She was out of breath, rattling off the specials at the speed of light, sweaty, and clearly exhausted. Pobrecita! Other than the slowness in service, the food was delicious. We ordered the chips and guacamole, fish and chicken tostadas, and sweet potatoes on the side. The kitchen graciously re-fired a dish for me that conflicted with my food allergies. The restaurant's bright interior creates a delightful atmosphere for a fun meal. One of my favourite features is the sink at the entrance that ensure that you don't get a mouthful of germs with your quesadillas! ***NB: I mean, it's still over-priced. Americans like myself will always think that Mexican food is over-priced because we can get authentic Latino food for cheap in States. What a widespread chain. Packed on Saturday nights, Mexican food for cheap. Protip: the tequila sampler is good even for discerning taste buds. Although the blanco is far too harsh (i much prefer the Anejo, Reposado, and Sangrita in that order) you can perhaps pass it off to a less discerning friend who just wants to TAKE A SHOTT!!! Protip 2: free foozball table, play a few rounds after the tequila sampler. Don't bother with the fish main for £9, was underwhelming. Street food especially tacos is done well; nice take using British ingredients, but obviously not as good as Chicago Mexican food. Pretty darn close though. read more

This was a damn good Mexican make no mistake, we were seated quickly despite being told we were looking at a 40 minute wait, it was probably only actually 10. Tuesday night but the place was packed, usually a good sign. Our waitress was efficient and explained the menu well, we ordered a bunch of dishes. My bestie is a veggie and she was very impressed with the selection of vegetarian dishes available. The food arrives as and when it's ready, it's not ordered into starters and mains and your whole party probably won't get your food simultaneously. Just relax and take it as it comes. Damn, I love Wahaca. Some might complain that it's not quite proper Mexican but that doesn't make it any less tasty. This branch is conveniently located opposite Waterloo station and right near the Old Vic. Inside we always have the same minor trouble - the seating is rather crammed in and the lighting is a bit dim. Our waitress today was good even if the person taking us to the table was a little surly. But onto the good stuff - the pork pibil tacos today were fantastic, and I love the chicken taquitos. But one of our favourites is the sweet potato sides - they're so good that we can't share and have to get a portion each now! We decided to try the steak burrito as well, and were very pleased with the quality of the steak. Another great feature is the quick pay system. Using a QR code on the table and an app, you can pay over your phone meaning that there's no need to wait for the bill to arrive. read more

Each branch that opens has a slightly new take on the bright Mexican street food eatery selling healthy South American tapas and the best tequila in town, all at mega affordable prices. I have never had a bad meal or a bad margherita at Wahaca. These guys know what they're doing. Whether it's a crunchy chicken ceaser tostada, a crispy sweet potato & feta taquito or a delicious pork pibl taco, the mini dishes are a dream. Load up and enjoy! The bigger dishes are great too, whether you're into fish tacos, burritos or a salad where you can literally eat the bowl, it's all great! Make sure you start off with THE best guacamole and chips, and end with the decadent churros with chocolate sauce to complete your Wahaca experience. And don't forget the tequila! After accidentally eating at Wahaca two days in a row, I can say I'm very impressed. After having the sweet potato and feta taquitos, I knew they were going to make a repeat appearance in my life. Their winter vegetables burrito was pretty tasty, and a different combination of veggies than usually included! It also came with a side of tortilla chips of the perfect thickness. The drinks menu is actually great and not that expensive. They had a special - the blood orange margarita - which was so tasty we ordered an entire round. They have a number of vegetarian dishes, but I believe the meat and fish are all sustainably raised. After years of avoiding Wahaca because of its reputation as "commercial Mexican", I've completely changed my mind and am ready for a return visit. Update: second time, and Wahaca still doesn't understand "no beans - I am allergic" despite having a "tell us about your allergies" statement, so I'm deducting a star. read more

After being told about Wahaca several times, I could not wait to tuck into some Mexican street food! The restaurant itself has a very modern funky vibe with a nice layout. Staff very attentive and punctual with ordering food/drinks. As a main meal, it is recommended to order 2-3 dishes per person. My dishes were all packed with flavour, fresh ingredients and presented nicely! Only downside I can think of is that dishes arrive to the table as and when they are ready - on a table of 4, this can get a little cramped! Also have a separate specials and gf menu, so dont forget to ask for these! Overall I will definitely be returning to Wahaca. Delicious food at a very reasonable price! We discovered Wahaca on Yelp. The place was very busy when we arrived at 9:30pm. We were seated immediately and met Matt, our waiter. He was awesome and helped us with the menu. The tapas style plates were perfect to try different dishes. We ended up selecting 5 different dishes plus chips and salsa and a few margaritas. All were excellent and Matt provided great service. We're visiting from Oregon, USA and did not expect to find any good Mexican food in London. We were pleasantly surprised and will definitely be back before our trip ends! read more

I usually love Wahaca, but this Waterloo branch is substandard: our first visit was fine if a bit crowded and noisy, but we've had undercooked or burnt food on our last 3 visits. Mouldy greenish feta on the last visit, waiter agreed dishes smelt off, offered to replace but we'd been put off our meals. Gave the place a the benefit of the doubt a couple of times, but really felt like the staff were just far too overworked, both in the kitchen and on the floor, hence poor food and incredibly slow service. I strongly recommend you avoid this Wahaca and instead walk a bit further down to the Thames and eat at the one by Southbank. read more

I don't understand marketing the overt cheap-chain feel to Wahaca. From the buzzing light transponders that they give their guests in queue (as if the host could not just walk over to the bar to tell you that your table was ready) to the interesting spiel given with full inscription on your menu/place-mat. Do they sing for birthdays too? Our waitress was muted in a sea of outside voices and if not for her drawings on our menu/place-mats as well as our pointing to menu items and nodding, we would have been unable to communicate. Still, I'm not even sure of a single word that she said. That aside, I was whet with anticipation over the responsibly sourced food we were about to consume, despite the over sized dining room, with over sized voices. First round, we split the Guac + Chips and the Frijoles + Chips. Both were very decent, obviously fresh made, and nothing to complain about for a starter snack. We washed these down with a Classic Marg and a Wahaca Mule. I can't speak for the Margarita, but their take on the Moscow Mule subbing Tequila for Vodka is delicious! Wanting to make it simple with all the confusion over pre-ordering instructions and what was offered for specials etc, we kept it basic and went with the tacos, beef and pork. - The beef was a bit dry, lacked enough chipotle salsa, and the uniquely lightly charred cheese was off-putting - The pork was not quite moist, but unfair to call dry. "Special Yucatecan marinade with fiery pickled onions" - yeah... fiery? no. special? ok. Both needed heavy doses of sauce and less cook time. Having been to Mexico, lived in Guatemala and Miami, and visited the SouthWest US Wahaca is not bad, but it's not great either. Kudos on the sustainable sourcing but I would really appreciate the experience more if I felt like I wasn't at one of the cheap establishments that are all too many in the US. This is not a theme park it's a restaurant. All in all, I would dodge it if I was hungry, but I wouldn't brag about it to my friends either... read more

I always order the same dishes at Wahaca: steak and cheese tacos and bean and corn salad. The salad was fine but the steak in the tacos was undercooked. I thought it'd be a fluke so added a special fried squid dish which was over cooked and chewy. Also the squid tasted fishy which usually means it's not fresh. I've tried a lot of Mexican restaurants in London over the years and most are universally terrible. Wahaca is not. While a chain, the food is served at a high standard along with being very reasonably priced for London. I had a frozen margarita and one on the rocks--both were good (I think the rocks was slightly better). I recommend starting with the pork pibil taco for £4.25--flavorful and spicy. I tried a bite of my friend's beef taco and didn't think it was nearly as good as the pork. Next I had the Chilli Quesadilla for £3.95--sweet sautéed onions and jalapeño chillies with feta. They even have habanero salsa on the table so you can heat it up more. Bottom line, I'm from Texas and eat TexMex at least twice a month and I found the food at Wahaca to sufficiently spicy and tasty. The only minor point I have is that at the height of rush-hour on a Thursday night, I found the basement setting to be a bit loud. That was offset, though, by a strong sustainability vibe which I enjoyed (for instance, quirky matchbooks to plant growing guerrilla chillis in the city) and free wifi (which for someone traveling without a data roaming plan, is extremely helpful). Distinctly small supermarket sarnies on a square plate. After seeing the reviews here on yelp, I had hoped I would be in for a treat. Instead I've had better lunches out of a packet from M&S. Although this lunch was sans wheels, (I'm normally with my offsprog in a pram cos I'm not hipster-mum enough for a sling), the first thing I noticed was just how inaccessible this place is. Not only are there stairs down to the venue, the hand rail is unreachable due to the various shrubberies that line the stair case. Now I'm not exactly a monkey, so I could only just about hold on to the hand rail to totter down in my interview shoes. Inside the acoustics were terrible, probably due to the low ceiling and abundance of metallic interior design. What should have been fresh and summer decor felt like an abandoned Mexican playground with some tables squeezed in. Badly. Our waiter, while nice enough, was really mumbly. It seemed to take forever to find dairy free, which still had to be checked. My poor vegan friend was nearly with out choice. I ended up having a special, a winter steak sarnie... Only it didn't feel that special. The kitchen forgot to remove offending milk products, so I had to wait while my companions ate. It was a thin piece of frying steak that was only just about pink. My vampirism was not to be satisfied! Plus the sandwich was the size of my hand with some miserable tortilla chips, dolefully splattered with some sort of watery tomato salsa. My spicy slaw was ok, but I really like raw cabbage, so it couldn't really fail. The hibiscus mojito was delicious... But sadly so small that it was gone in seconds. Poor vegan accomplice had a winter vegetable burrito, which really was just a rice and mushroom wrap. A real shame she didn't like mushrooms. Even more of a shame were the fried sweet potato. The nicest food one the table and if there was any more than half a potato in that terracotta ketchup pot, then you can tell where you found it please. We didn't even entertain the thought of pudding. We paid the bill and decided gin was a much better option and headed for the near by and delightful Scooter Caffè. Seriously, rather go to M&S, get 4 times the amount of food and eat it in a park where I can hear my friends and avoid depressed nacho chips. read more

A great Mexican restaurant (though not really authentic) right across from Waterloo Station. It has a fun vibe and the food is very tasty. It is normal that each person in the party pick 2-3 small plates and share, making the options for your meal almost endless. The flavours are fresh and they have fun combinations of different foods. The menu is seasonal as well, so there's always something new to try. Definitely recommend! I've had their tacos, tostadas, quesadillas, taquitos and their guac, and all were delicious! Really tasty Mexican style food right near Waterloo station. They have a fair amount of vegetarian options and a selection of drinks, including a range of tequilas and a few aqua frescas, including horchata. They do small tapas-like sharing dishes, nibbles and full dishes. I got horchata, guac and chips, plantain tacos and blank bean burritos. It only cost me £13-14. All of it was excellent, but I found the tacos a little too spicy for me. I like the option of small dishes because I usually like a variety of tastes and because I'm small, so full-sized entrees are usually more than I can handle. You also have the option to pay by app. I think for the quality and variety of food that this is really good value for money. I was delightfully surprised at how good this place was! We started with the chips and guacamole, classic margarita and a hibiscus gin and tonic with black pepper. Really enjoyed the sweet potato and feta taquito, finished off with the taco shade plate. The flavors were really good and surprisingly unique. my friend and i went to wahaca on a thursday night, we had to wait about 20 minutes for a table during which time we got margaritas. for the price ($10), the margaritas were just okay - nothing i would go back for. we asked for frozen margaritas and got margaritas with crushed ice instead of blended like we expected. after about 15 minutes of waiting we changed our minds and decided to get something to go from the wahaca food truck instead of waiting for a table to clear up. we both got burritos and they were delicious! really quite good. the meat was well cooked, the rice was flavorful, and the toppings were fresh. read more

Look, I'm not British and have Hispanic relatives so this may be biased from the British viewpoint, but any restaurant that uses the phonetic spelling of Oaxaca (Wahaca) can't be good. In fact, in the US it would be considered gratuitous at best. Also, any "Mexican" restaurant that gives you bottled hot sauces when you ask for the best has got to be bad. And in fact it was bad. Someone needs to tell these people that baba is not Mexican, that horchata is not supposed to be the color and taste of dirty dish water, and limes and cilantro really do exist. This may be the British taste buds that keep this open, but don't insult Mexicans for calling this place what it is not. read more

Went there for my birthday celebration, and I would definitely go back. The ambiance is warm and welcoming, I love the music they were playing and the staff where friendly, In terms of the food, I have no complaints, everything was quite tasty and even the drinks were great. Only bit that deters me from giving it five stars is 1) the price- it's ok if you've got enough to spare, but if we're counting the servie, have your wallet at the ready! 2) the person who was attending us accidentally got the bill wrong but fixed it straight away, so check that too! read more

We were a party of 4 and went crazy ordering the tacos (1 pork, 1 plaintain, 2 chicken, and 3 steak), tried a taquito and a quesadilla but I'd say the steak taco is the best. I'm a big fan of Wahaca and I recently went to their Waterloo branch for the first time. I love the interior of the restaurant, it's nicely set out and has great decor. The place has a buzz to it, a good atmosphere always assists in creating a good meal experience! We turned up at 8ish on a very busy Thursday with 8 of us and we only had to wait 45 minutes (which meant we could have cocktails, chips and guacamole whilst playing table football!). We shared 2 of the Mexican Feast set menus with a few extra dishes, which were all delicious. I especially liked the special cocktail, the Spiked Shandy. It definitely has a kick from the Tabasco, but is a great drink. The staff were lovely and helpful, even when we were useless at deciding what we wanted!
