Ok, so we are visiting from out of town and we weren't quite sure what to expect of English Mexican food. We stopped in one night after walking from the hotel and were seated right away. I had the Garlic Butter Sizzling Prawns, see picture. Shrimp, vegetables, and cheese. It wasn't bad at all. Everything was well cooked and taste as it should. The staff were friendly and attentive, the place felt nice and inviting. The one big drawback is the price. I found that for what it is the price of everything was very high. I dislike when Yelp presents bad reviews from 6 years ago. That's pretty unfair. Also Americans expecting authentic Mexican food in London should re-examine their reasons for travel. I'm from Southern California so I know Mexican food. There is not a large Mexican population in London to provide the kind of authentic menus like you will find in London Indian restaurants. But after days of pub food, Indian and Italian we decided to give it a try. This is a nicely decorated little restaurant with a nice attentive staff. Was the food different from what we were used to? Yes, but it was very tasty. My wife had chicken tacos served on a large platter with separate portions to build your own taco. They had Mexican rice but no refried or black beans or lettuce for the tacos. The tacos were hard shell. I had fajitas and they were very good but served without a side of rice. Cute little Mexican place right by Victoria station. The service was very good and the food was fine. We ordered two fajitas, chicken and steak, and a chorizo quesadilla. We were really hoping to get some rice and refríed beans but no such luck. The fajitas came with guacamole, sour cream, cheese and red sauce. No lettuce like the US but it was fine. A fairly standard Tex-Mex place, of the kind you go when you're a student and want margaritas in large jugs. The cocktails are pretty sugary and heavy on the juice and syrup (right up my street, but could be disappointing to anyone who has an alcoholic palate that isn't as childish as mine!), and the food is fine. You certainly wouldn't think you were in Mexico, but it's filling, the portions are large and it's not *bad* food - it's just rather unmemorable. If you're looking for a romantic or special night out, this is not the place, but for a bite pre- or post-drinks, or a fun place to have a few sugary cocktails with some nachos and relive your student days, it's perfectly good! read more

As someone who was raised on Mexican food (real Mexican food) I was disappointed. I know I should not be entirely surprised as Mexican food has yet to make in in the UK but at least the restaurant did a few things right. You might laugh when you walk in, but 5 Stars on decor. I have to admit,it is just like home. So it was nice to walk in and feel that little bit of cheesy warmth. Although I felt a bit anxious when I realised my table of three was being watched by at least 5 staff not doing anything. The entire meal. The margarita was no bueno. In a margarita you should at least be able to taste the fact that there is tequila in it, sadly I could not. I have a feeling it was a margarita mix. And the stuff that they put on the rim... for the wrong drink. I did order the veggie burrito knowing that it could not go wrong. Yeah, I was wrong. There were ingredients that belong in Chinese food in that burrito, not Mexican. It also lacked many of the main ingredients (aka salsa, beans, cilantro, etc). I found it so sad the only thing keeping me from going into the kitchen and giving a free training session were my friends. Rice and beans are a staple, which means they belong in everything. I really rather liked this place! The service was good, esp considering we were hanging out for a few hours. I really enjoyed the mixed dips and the guac didn't taste like it was out of a packet! The enchiladas were very tasty - with a somewhat Indiany taste to me :) I agree that the food isn't totally authentic with the veggies used, but it's flavourful and looks home-made. I would guess it was a family business, run by Cypriots perhaps? We also had a pecan pie for dessert which burnt my tongue a lil but tasted great with the toffee fudge ice cream! This place is a funny one. From the outside it looks like a hideously plastic-y, tacky Mexican restaurant. Once you get inside it actually gets worse! But after a while, and a few well made Mojitos, it starts to add to the charm. Generally there'll be some groups wearing Sombreros: they have a seemingly inexhaustible supply. You can even get ponchos too if you are lucky. What you will notice is that this place is generally quite busy. On to the food. Portion sizes here are big, I doubt very much that you'll leave feeling empty. It's your standard Mexican food, burritos, tacos etc. However, my personal favourite (not sure how authentically Mexican this is) are the Barbecue Ribs. They are pretty awesome, the meat just falls from the bone. Service is generally ok, although I did have one occasion when in a large group there were some "extra" items added to our bill. I managed to go back the next day and get a free meal for two out of them though. Just double check what you are paying for on the night when there's a lot of you. I cant really fault the service of this place. I went here with a group of friends. They accommodated our random growing group size (started at 2 and ended at 6). They gave us maracas to shake as we danced to their music. They didn't falter when we ordered desert, drinks, mains and starters together and in the wrong order. The food was good too. I would hardly call this mexican. The service, for starters, was horrible. The restaurant wasn't even crowded when I strolled in here on a Sunday afternoon and yet I was left waiting for some time to order and again after I finished my meal. The food? Hmmmm. Nothing seemed fresh or prepared to order. The chips and dip left much to be desired. Both seemed to have come from a bag purchased at a local Tesco. Hardly anything worth paying £6 for. I had the beef tacos and was honestly surprised the meet was quite tasty, however, the taco shells appeared to have come out of an Olde El Paso taco dinner kit from a week ago. As an American living abroad for a couple years I've have a distinct lack of Mexican food in my life. Therefore, I'm willing to overlook somethings when I go to a Mexican restaurant in, lets say, London. I can overlook things like the server having no idea what we're talking about when we ask for a salted margarita glass. I can also overlook that when said margaritas arrive, they had what appeared to be, table salt on the rim. Whatever. Any port in a storm. Very strange guacamole? No biggie. "Sour cream" that had green specs in it. I can deal. What I can't deal with is extremely rude, push-you-out-the-door service. Our food came out (which was decent actually), and we asked for some hot sause. The guy came back with the hot sause, and our check. Seriously? we haven't even started eating yet. We continue to eat and as we finish (still not done) the guy comes back with the credit card machine and asks "do you want to pay with a card or with cash". Again, seriously? still working on the food here. I give him my card, he scans it and asks "how much do you want me to put on the card?" Is this some cultural thing I'm not familiar with? how about you put whatever the bill says? This is all just incredibly rude and pushed what would have been a decent experience into the realm of crap-tastic. AVOID! read more

Love it. we stumbled upon here (after Yelping somewhere that would serve us macaroni cheese and finding Harlem on the same street, which was unfortunately closed for refurb). It's not much to look at, but boy did we have some fun. I wasn't expecting much if I'm honest. It's decked out like every other tex mex place around the world, with garish blow up Corona bottles and the like everywhere. However, what started as a mission to find nachos turned into us all ordering food. I had chicken quesadillas, Jules had steak fajitas and Michelle had chorizo nachos. All of it was gorgeous, and we got through two pitchers of frozen margaritas to wash it down. Two shared desserts later (hello toffee waffle!), and the bill came to £25/head. Bar-gain. The amusing up-selling from the waitress wasn't even annoying, in fact, I applauded her tenacity. We sat with mexican hats on, gabbling about nothing, laughing and arguing about films. This Mexican restaurant has a great fun atmosphere. One of the first thing's you'll notice is that everyone is wearing sombreros (and the staff give them to customers to wear if you wish). But the food is not very good and it's very over-priced for the quality. The tortilla chips tasted like Doritos that were just put in the oven. Every thing they serve is essentially mince meat (no matter what it says on the menu--burritos, enchilads, tacos, it's all just mince meat), and it's not particularly flavorful. And the drinks were watered-down, so even a jug of tequila mix won't give you a buzz. If you come from America (like me), where there's a lot of great Mexican food, you will most likely be disappointed. But if you don't know any better, shrug your shoulders, give this place a go (and keep your expectations to a minimum). read more

We've been here twice now and on both occasions, had a solid experience. I've tried both the prawn and the veggie fajitas. They were both great and hearty in portions as well. I also like their menu overall. They offer a wide variety of both Mexican and American dishes such as wings and ribs. Secondly, the ambience is quite authentic. Coming into the restaurant from the neighbourhood, you instantly feel transported to a Mexican hut. It's not modern or fancy, but simple and intimate. The addition of sombreros on willing customers is brilliant as well. Service is also solid. Very prompt and polite. All in all, a great option in the hood when you have a craving for Mexican! read more

Not exactly haute cuisine, and not cheap, this is a classic mexican place full of cheery staff (most of the time), alcohol, sombreros, and good, hearty mexican food. My favourites are the quesadillas, and would heartily recommend any of the cocktails or fruit juice mixes they make. Very yummy, especially for the summer. This is a rather cute little Mexican restaurant opposite the Sainsbury's 'Market' on Wilton Road in Victoria. It's a bit cheesy in terms of the decor - there are lots of large sombreros and blow-up bottles of lager, with some slightly naff wild west murals to boot, and the staff wear ponchos and straw stetsons. If you can get over that then you'll be pleasantly surprised - lots of authentic, filling mexican food and its quite cheap - we had a two course meal for two with drinks for less than £30. I was so excited when this Mexican restaurant opened. The staff here are very friendly and have a great sense of humor (they often stand outside wearing sombreros and ponchos). The food here is amazing. It's more like Mexican-American but there is quite a range of choice on the menu. Best of all are the cocktails - there have to be over 50! Indeed a bit loco - but the fun kind of loco. Great atmosphere, latino hits playing loud, but not to loud for us. Both the sangria and margaritha comes In pitchers. Staff is very kind and the hospitality was good! The food was excellente and we had burritos, fajitas, nachos and enchilladas. Portions was good for the price and the taste was really good. First----- I always have a fabulous, silly time here. Ask to borrow the sombreros. The food is, to a native Texan, nothing to write home about, but not bad at all for Britain. and if you like kitsch, as I do, you will enjoy this place. The food was really good- our first Mexican experience in London. Staff was friendly enough. I had the beef burrito and it was delicious, as well as a Strawberry Daiquiri which was slightly too strong- but better than being too weak I guess! Atmosphere was okay- music was a little too loud, and they obnoxiously played the Happy Birthday song (extra loud) at least three times while we were there. I wasn't expecting a quiet atmosphere by any means, but it was a little too much noise. Service was fast, friendly- the only other thing I have to say was that the ladies bathrooms were absolutely disgusting. Toilet paper everywhere, wet floors, dirty nappies lying on the floor... Wow. Don't even know where to start. Asked if we could order drinks to get happy hour deals while we waited for a table and they said yes. But when we went up to the bar we were told it was over, even though the sign outside said it went till 6:30 and it was 6:25. Then two women came in right after us and asked to get happy hour drinks and for them it was no problem. I let it go. I was with 3 friends and we were sat slightly before two other couples. No one came to us to order drinks/food for several minutes. Both couples got their food 15 minutes before us, and one couple was already gone by the time we got our food. Got jalapeño poppers as an appetiser for 6 pounds, received four deep friend things that consisted of a tiny piece of jalapeño and mostly cream cheese. Not jalapeño poppers, and they didn't even come as an appetiser. My quesadilla came without salsa and sour cream, even though the menu explicitly said that they were served with the quesadilla. To top this all off, we were asked for a tip in person on the spot, and had to awkwardly decide in front of the server what to tip. I asked to write it down and she looked confused. Would've gave 0 tip but when you're put on the spot... anyways literally the worst restaurant service I have ever experienced. This place is a scam. They are more concerned with flipping tables then serving their customers. Food was ok and the service was terrible. Avoid this place at all costs, I am truly so upset and disappointed. read more

We stopped in Loco Mexicano for a quick drink and bite on a recent trip to London. The location is decorated in darker maroon tones with Mexican paraphernalia on the walls. There is a bar area but no seating at the bar, so even for drinks you need to wait for a table. Service was passable, about standard for European restaurants so don't expect to be in and out quickly. We ordered frozen margaritas which were clearly from a mix and blended in a blender (rather than the superior quality of a dedicated frozen drink machine). They weren't strong at all and the flavor left much to be desired. The chips and salsa we ordered tasted straight from a bag and jar, nothing fresh at all that we could discern. Now I don't expect authentic Mexican (or even American-Mexican) food and drinks with London being so far from Mexico, but I do think they could do a better job with the food and drink. Even though the staff was friendly, given the items we experienced I can't recommend Loco Mexicano as a good experience. read more

Great environment some of waiters and waitress doesnt speak english fluently and you should make sure they take your order correctly. It is really to be careful when you are allergic. Boy do we love this place. It is exactly as described...a bit tacky on the outside, but the charm will grow on you proportional to the margaritas consumed. And beware the margaritas are dangerous! a headache may be in your future after a pitcher, but the fun is worth it. Almost everything I have had on the menu is delicious. Just avoid the prawn and crab tacos...they are a no go. The prawns are well shrimpy and the crab is untraceable. BUT the veggie enchiladas are to die for! the beef tacos are amazing and if you are really feeling wild the Tropical Chicken skewers can't be beat. Very tacky Mexican restaurant in Victoria. I went in yesterday after seeing the starter and main for £10 deal. The waiter was initially very friendly and helpful when we walked in. I ordered tacos for both the starter and main since they're my favourite food and I didn't think you could go that wrong with them.. I was very wrong. I ate the starter tacos that were 'build your own' but the shells were absolutely awful. Completely bland and tasted like they were from a stale recipe kit. The salad was bitter and the salsa once again tasted like it was picked up from a supermarket a long time ago. Anyway, I was hoping that the main would be much better but when it came it was the same story again. I ordered the spicy beef tacos and regretted it immediately, it was bland and once again you had to put it together yourself which isn't great for a notoriously messy food. Having eaten about 30% of my food, I was unable to eat any more and asked the waiter if I could have a piece of paper to write a complaint about the quality of the ingredients. He then proceeded to get incredibly defensive despite the fact I was being very polite and told me that I'd eaten some of the food so it can't be that bad.... how can I comment on the taste if I haven't tried it? He told me that there was no point writing the manager because it's to do with the chefs cooking and the chef is a professional so his cooking is great. I was also told that everyone else liked it so it was probably just my taste, but having come on yelp I now see it wasn't. Either way, I wrote a complaint which I highly doubt will actually reach the manager. Don't bother going to this place... complete waste of money read more
