This was my first experience at caveman kitchen and I wasn't impressed. I'll give a little leeway because they were slightly busy. We had a decent sized order and the guy behind the counter was able to take the order well, (this was for a group of coworkers by the way) and we had trouble ordering online which the staff and manager even know has been an issue. We were able to successfully get the order done and pay. After I waited for half an hour the guy that took my order saw me waiting outside and said "oh you wanted that order today?" I never mentioned another day for the food to arrive and I never said anything about delivery, or coming to pick it up later. They made up for it and gave me some free desserts which were okay, but as I was eating my sandwich I find a bone in my mouth that I almost swallowed, not a small bone either and definitely could've made me choke or something. We decided to go to Caveman again for dinner and I ordered something I normally don't get and boy I'm glad I did. The chicken bacon ranch sandwich was so yummy! Lots of chicken, bbq sauce, ranch and of course who can go wrong when you add bacon! The sandwich was like a 3 napkin sandwich I needed 3 of them to clean up my hands! Them boys need to learn how to season the food. Went there today, wife loves their potatoe salad and ribs for whatever reason so I took her. Ribs have no flavor. Tender but a bit overcooked and dry. Bbq sauce is ketchup based and flavorless. Needs seasoning!! To each thier own but if you comment and say this is the best bbq you've ever had, you've never had real bbq at all. read more

I really wanted to love this place. The BBQ is good, but seating is crap. Flies in the summer and cold with wind in the winter. The metal roof leaks here and there and drips happen. There is some food the gets dropped and the birds swoop in. The seating really takes away from the food experience. read more

The chili was delicious! The ribs should be labeled smoked jerky not ribs. The meat was extremely tough and was very hard to even get it off the bone. So you're on the road and all of a sudden you smell wondrous smoking meat, what do you do. You look around until you spot the source, is what. That's Cave Man Kitchen. I have driven by this place so many times and thought I need to try their food sometime. The problem was that i always had other plans until now. So I called this place right at 4pm thinking let's get ahead of the traffic and make sure there's plenty of time for food to be prepared and get it home for the family. Made my order and was told it'll be ready in 10min. Well alright then. Family ordered ribs, ham, a whole chicken, potato bugs, and a dragon wheel. Seemed a little pricy but the family had full stomachs and I learned I could have ordered a little less. All in all the food was pretty good. For comparison my family enjoys bbq Pete's just north of this place. Cave Man has more options On the menu but Pete's has a couple things that I feel are better. 3 out of 4 people at my table voted that Cave Man had the better chicken, and that's saying something because we like Pete's chicken. I'd say the ribs were decent, but I'd say Pete's has a step up when they're fresh. Another thought on Cave Man's food is that if you're not a fan of salt their food might be too much for you. I love salt and everything had plenty of it. It also seems everyone has their own little mash up of something. Cave Man has the dragon wheel, a combination of potato, carrots, onion, and pork. It was tasty but I expect it might have been above and beyond had it been fresh. Tasted like it had dried out a little. For my last thought, I'd say the Cave Man bbq sauce is sweet. That's good or bad depending on the person but for me I like a little less sweet and more savory with a little bite. This place is def worth checking out at some point. This place had some bad reviews, which we should have listened to. From the outside it looks like a great BBQ joint with a nice classic feel to it. The inside is clean and the staff are nice, but the food sucks. The pork sandwich was #mid and tasted kind of like cardboard without the BBQ sauce. With the sauce it tastes exactly how I imagine BBQ cardboard tastes like. The chicken bacon ranch sandwich was #uppermid, although seemed a little pricey. I hadn't been to the Caveman Kitchens in several years (maybe 5). I decided to drop by today just on a whim. It's still the same funky little dump that it's always been. Nothing has been upgraded on the outside or the inside. But actually that's really part of its charm. It does appear that the menu is slightly more extended. However, the prices of everything have gone up so much that it was shocking. Literally things were so expensive on the menu I could barely pay attention much less even thinking about paying a bill for lunch at those prices. I did leave with some serious dragon's breath from eating my Dragon Wheels. Yeah, I ordered two of them. That is what being away for 5 years will do to a person - subliminally convince them to order twice as much of their favorite dish because it's been just that long since they had it before, and they are not sure when they will get it again. Even if it is at the most outrageous and overpriced cost. What is a Dragon Wheel? It is the side dish of onions, potatoes, carrots, and tidbits of meat. Unfortunately, it wasn't exactly what I remember as far as flavors go. It was sort of good, but was way too sweet and the salt they had in it was overwhelming intense. I could feel my blood pressure rising with the first bite. The salt needed to be diminished but the bigger issue for me is I don't remember it ever being sweet. The onions must have been Sweet Wally's or Vidalia. They overpowered the meal. On the flip side, I really like that they added more meat than I remember it. And the meat is tasty. The potatoes and carrots were cooked just perfectly and that they were moist and tender, not dry at all. So if it weren't for the overwhelming sweet and salt, and the outrageous prices, I'd give it a thumbs up. Unfortunately my thumb snaps in the downward direction on the Caveman! I can't tell you much else about Caveman Kitchens from this visit because I only ordered the Dragon Wheels. read more

The place stinks like wet dog, and there was dog hair floating around the beverage area, and on the soda machine. The employees aren't friendly, and were not helpful to a first timer as far as helping me with the menu. Also, what bbq place doesn't have french fries? Also, pricey...for two people $37. I hardly ever write reviews, but I couldn't let others have the same experience as we did today for lunch. Where should I start...? We typically go to BBQ Petes, but I've heard so many good reviews from friends about this place, so we decided to give it a try for lunch today. What a mistake, it was the worst experience we've had in a long time when eating out and we won't ever be going back! To start, the prices were outrageous and portions were small. We ordered the chicken bacon ranch sandwich, pork cubes, dragon wheel, stoup and coleslaw. For $60 we were hoping for the best bbq around, as advertised by the evening magazine sign in the front of the building. However, the food was hot garbage and left a horrible after taste in your mouth. I'm certain they don't know the first thing about smoking and just put smoldering wood into their smoker, and over-smoke everything! It didn't taste like a clean-smoke, but more of a dirty-smoke and everything was dry! If you want good BBQ and a variety, head down the street to Pete's BBQ, or save your money and buy a Traeger. I'm trying to help others avoid the same experience we had at cave mans today. We left completely regretting giving this place a shot! read more

We drove by this place every day for years, always saying, we need to try it! The sign is kitschy but funny and the motif is definitely cave-man. So on new years, we were craving BBQ and decided to give it a try. I'm sad that we only started coming here on New Year's Eve. We ordered sandwiches, oblivious to the fact that they might be very popular and very busy. We were lucky enough to score the French dip, chili, baked potatoes, Dragon Wheels (side roasted morsels of potato yumminess), a pizza sandwich and some other beef sandwich. We got their last two orders of dragon wheels, and I don't know if they had extra po' boys or if this what they normally do, but they gave us 2 extra giant sandwiches - an Italian meat and a chicken/cheese sandwiches for free! I don't know if they were trying to hook us, but OMG. First, the French bread is amazing. It's buttery, crunchy, soft and crusty! I could just eat loaves of it. But the smoked meats are to die for. And it was good we had those extra sandwiches because once everyone ate what they ordered, we wanted to more! Those extra sandwiches were gone the next day. The bread held up it's crunchy butteriness! The au jus just added to the savoriness of the bread. We used to eat lunch from Caveman back in the early 90s. It was OK then and it was only a mile to office. Back in the area and wanted some BBQ. It's gotta be Caveman. I ordered a 3/4-pound of pork ribs. She ordered the beef sandwich meal: mystery meat, beans, coleslaw, diet. The woman behind rang up my bill at $44.09. My wife's bill rung up at $42 and change. I thought my bill was about double, but the manager(?), who finally appeared, looked at the register tab and said "yep". Hey, they're trying to survive, I'll take the hit. Got my ribs and found a table in the shed on the south side. I wait. I wait some more. 15 minutes, people and leaving with bags, no wife. I check she's still first in the pickup area. I can't wait and go look at my ribs. 4 large ribs + 1 small rib. Three of the ribs have a normal amount of meat for BBQ pork ribs; the 4th is like a chinese pork rib-all cartilage and what meat was there was dried out jerky and burned. I couldn't help myself I ate one of the meatier ribs. I'll swear the ribs had been cooked and held sous vide so the meat was still chewable, hit with the broiler, had some fluid pored over it that bore little relation to BBQ sauce: ketchup, tomato paste, sugar, a little vinegar, and enough water to not boil away and still pour freely. The one rib was my limit. My wife finally showed up after about 25 minutes and unloaded her sack: half a paper box with a rolled up sandwich in tinfoil, and 1 cup paper containers with beans and coleslaw. I asked her what had happened. Evidently this was the third try to try to make a beef sandwich meal and they'd given it to her free for the inconvenience. She opened up the the tinfoil to get at the sandwich and it may have been the sliced beef with the same lame sauce, but definitely no bun. I asked if she was going to go back for a fourth try. She just shook her head. The good news was that she really liked the beans and slaw, although she said that at $4 (maybe $5) per cup she could get better at any Safeway deli. The sliced beef looked like it had been held in a steam tray. She said it didn't taste bad, but immediately went back to the beans and slaw. I had a piece and it wasn't bad. She took a couple of bites of a rib and put it back. Her only comment was that the BBQ sauce was the lamest excuse since we'd been at a roadhouse outside Milwaukee about 15 years ago. I wish Caveman had been more wonderful as we recalled from 30 years ago. They had a lot of business in the 45 minutes we were there, so a lot of local people are going to disagree with this review. But for us Caveman was not worth the extra gasoline to come down the hill from I-5. From the signs in the window, they clearly are in the same crunch for kitchen staff and FOH staff that all restaurants are having after Covid and I wish them luck. Never again. This is my second attempt with Cave Man. The first time was lackluster but I figured that I should give it another chance. I ordered the large bbq beef sandwich. Yuck. If you want a shaved deli meat sandwich COVERED in slightly spicy ketchup, this is the sandwich for you. For sides, I picked baked beans and "stoup" "a hearty stew/soup". Stout is another name for puréed chili with a lack of flavor. Then there is the baked beans. Not a bad looking baked bean. Nice chunks of meat and the right consistency but not a lot of flavor. These guys have posted that they are the best or favorite BBQ in Kent, Washington. The only way this is possible is if they are the ONLY bbq joint in Kent, Washington. It's a real shame. From the street, this place looks legit as hell. Do yourself a favor and go up the street to BBQ Pete's. Much better bbq as you will be able to tell by the line forming at the counter. This place doesn't have the line. I guess you can have a ketchup and beef sandwich if you're in a hurry. I'll spend my $27 somewhere else. I'm going home disappointed. read more

I am finally lowering my ranking of Caveman Kitchen after decades of supporting and patronizing this local business in Kent, WA. I ordered my usual Chicken Sandwich and potato salad, with a lemonade at the counter. I even tipped the young lady 5 dollars when paying for the food. I then noticed the Chicken Sandwich prices jumped up to 14 dollars as well as the potato salad prices. I saved judgement when the food was delivered at a slower speed than usual, not good when you are the only physical customer at the counter that day. The sandwich was fine but when I dug into the potato salad, I found a long female hair inside which was a major turnoff. Not only am I not going to return back, I am going to remove this on my Yelp page as being one of the last meals I would want to have. This was pretty disgusting and I hope the owners read this review and respond accordingly. Also, what wasn't surprising was the young lady overcharged the next customer who was after me by 25 dollars. He ended up calling her on this and she was too ignorant to apologize or show remorse. The days of Caveman are long gone. My loyalty has now been removed from this one-time favorite spot to visit when coming from the SeaTac airport. read more

We love their smoked turkey; it's a family tradition and we have smoked turkey soup for the weeks to come.

Note: I've only been here once to pick up a pre-cooked smoke roasted turkey for Thanksgiving. This place was recommended by a good friend who loves smoking stuff. Since I've never bought a pre-cooked turkey before I didn't know that it would be cold, but no problem. Warming it up was not hard at all. I love the smoked taste of the turkey and some of my guests commented that this was probably one of their best turkey they've had. I placed my order over the phone and when I had questions later Noela was very responsive via email. There was a small mix up with my order when I arrived, but the staff onsite took care of it without a hitch. I would definitely order another turkey or other items in the future when I need to. The process was hassle free and totally worth it to not spend all the time on my own to cook a turkey. I also ordered the smoked salmon sandwich to go. It was AMAZING!!! It came with a delicious au jus sauce/soup and that too was AMAZING!!! I just went to their website as I was writing this review to get the name of the sandwich and just learned it's their signature item. It's definitely a must try. I'm neither a sandwich or BBQ person, but if I'm ever out this way I plan on trying more of their sandwiches and BBQ items. Good stuff! read more

I grew up eating at the Cave Man and as an adult it's been a few years since I've eaten. I was out for a drive and as I was passing the Cave Man I decided to stop and pick up the Chicken Meal for dinner. The chicken was moist and had a nice smokey flavor. The skin was the best part! My sides were the baked beans and potato salad and both were equally as good. This place sounded a LOT cooler than it was it person. The exterior is a little divey, which sometimes may reveal a true hidden gem inside. It had a side of the road burger joint feel, but their menu was super creative, although the majority of the items (from entree to dessert) involved french bread. I orderd the salmon dip, which is a sandwich filled with smoked salmon, cream cheese, and fish au jus, and say down outside at the picnic tables for my name to be called. The bread was crispy and delicious by itself. The salmon was good, but the cream cheese spread had an almost mayo-like feel, and it was a bit overwhelming at times. The au jus was saltier than any salty chicken soup you've had. It wasn't bad, just different. But I typically like different. All in all I was satisfied--although the elements of the dish were yummy, they just didn't seem to go together. I do want to come back and try more items though, so we'll see what results! :) read more

Sooooooo Disappointing. Hadn't been here for over 15 years & I was so excited to have some good BBQ. I was also starving so a BBQ'd shoe would have tasted good. That is of course if they put BBQ sauce on it, not the marinara tasting stuff that was on my BBQ beef sandwich today. The meat had no BBQ flavor either so I wonder if I didn't get some weird mixed up order like for a shoe sandwich. At least the bread was tasty, the potato salad among the best I've ever had and the cole slaw just right. Soda fountain tap had only 1/2 the sodas available. Well it is hard to complain about smoked meats, this place was really good. We got there late on a Saturday and all of the meat had to be reheated, which obviously takes some moisture out, but the ribs and pulled pork had a touch of smoke and great flavor. I would really like to try their stuff as it comes off of the BBQ. Overall, the girls behind the counter were funny and polite, the food was great and their BBQ sauce was amazing!! Ok, everyone has their own options about BBQ, Texas, Kansas, St. Louis, & the arguments go on, but these guys are worth checking out. I know I will be back again soon! read more

The pork was dried out and the polish sausage was served in sauce. Both portions were small. The sides of baked beans and coleslaw Were Not very good.
