Both were fresh, flavorful, and the portion sizes were generous. Unfortunately, everything else missed the mark. The chicken kebabs had an unexpected sweetness that just didn't work for me. The side salad looked wilted and didn't seem very fresh, and even the dressing was overly sweet. The rice was bland and had almost no flavor. The biggest letdown was the garlic sauce--it tasted like it was made with mayonnaise instead of a traditional garlic sauce, and I found it unpleasant. The overall atmosphere didn't help. The restaurant didn't seem particularly clean, the décor and ambiance felt like they had been thrown together, and the employees came across as disconnected rather than welcoming or engaged. I can easily overlook a place that's been put together on a budget if the food is outstanding, but in this case, it simply wasn't. Aside from the lentil soup and hummus, I didn't enjoy the meal. I can't vouch for the meat dishes as a vegan, but WOW is their pita soft, fresh and flavorful, and they replenish it readily. Their hummus is excellent, their baba ghanoush is the best I've had since leaving the greater Boston area (with its abundance of outstanding ethnic restaurants) and the eggplant moussaka is fantastic. Plus they put this fully vegan cream dressing on the garden salad that is out of this world. Byblos has completely ruined me for a lot of other restaurants.
