Closer to a 3.5 but hopefully on our next visit this will change. Service was great and the space was very nice. I would have liked the Brussels if they were crisped up a bit. The burger was solid. We enjoyed the ricotta with the crispy lavash. The least favorite of the evening was the pasta which was sour. House made ricotta- rosemary, honey, olive oil, lavash Brussels sprouts- onion dressing, pickled tomato confit, sunflower seed, basil Americana burger- house recipe ground beef, American cheese, lacto fermented pickle, onion, lettuce, Causwell sauce, sesame bun Tagliatelle- braised lamb, English peas, gremolata, herbed ricotta

I came to Causwells for brunch with a girlfriend and we loved it! I did not even know about the martini cart and it was soo fun to have our martinis made tableside. My favorite dish was the famous burger, it was so juicy and I loved the crispy onion strings it came with. Causwells is tucked in a residential apartment building and has free garage parking for 2 hours, and there are also lots of (paid) EV chargers available which is a plus. The interior is spacious and very swanky, and pretty quiet too. Would love to come back with my husband and toddler.

Ambiance: casual Service: nice Food: Raw Oysters (6/$26)- comes with pink peppercorn mignonette and lemon, so fresh!! must order! Steak Tartare ($19)- you can taste the quality, love the crunch from the celery Braised Lamb Tagliatelle ($26)- was delicious! Tender lamb, packed with flavor, and the herb ricotta added a nice creamy touch! Drinks: Dirty Martini- flash chilled with liquid nitrogen, then crafted and poured tableside, one of my favorites here Baklava Old Fashioned ($18)- fig and olive oil infused bourbon with a salted pistachio honey. This was interesting in a good way

This was a very cool drink - Deconstructed Pimms Cup. This I would go back for.

We took my sister here for her birthday last night and arrived excited to try a new restaurant. Sadly, we left feeling very disappointed and would probably only return for drinks at the bar. The ambiance inside is beautiful, and we loved the bar area. We were seated outside, though, so unfortunately we weren't able to experience the martini cart, which was disappointing, as one of the main reasons we chose to come was specifically for that experience. Drinks - Deconstructed Pimms Cup was a hit! The martinis are tiny and not cheap. I had a dirty Shirley which was just meh. Food: Fried Chicken with Slaw - The menu should really specify that this is fried chicken wings, because that's what was served. I was expecting an actual fried chicken entrée with perhaps a breast and thigh. Instead, it was wings with no sauce, and the slaw was completely flavorless. Salmon - Cooked perfectly, but overall nothing particularly memorable or special. Prime Rib - The first plate arrived cold. Not just slightly cool but cold and the meat had an unappetizing grey color. We sent it back, and a replacement finally arrived after everyone else had already finished eating. It was hot the second time, but the color of the meat still looked off. And no creamy horseradish with prime rib? That was surprising. We ended up taking the $40 meal home for our dogs. Beignets - We ordered these for the birthday celebration, and they were actually delicious. However, after the prime rib situation, I thought it was in poor taste that they charged us for them. Service was fine overall, and the staff were friendly. I'm just really disappointed with the experience. We were deciding between coming here or going to my sister's favorite spot, Los Altos Grill, and ultimately chose to try something new. Unfortunately, it ended up being a big letdown. At about $100/pp I expect a lot more!

Solid food, great service in a casual setting. We definitely need this type of place in Menlo Park to offset so many really expensive places. We ordered the smash burger, a pasta dish and the Brussels sprouts. Everything was solid.

We came here Saturday early afternoon and tried the brunch menu. We were able to be seated right away without a reservation. The outdoor table had plenty of room for our stroller. My husband and I enjoyed our cocktails (I believe mine was called the dilly dally). The charred oysters were lovely, though a bit pricey for 6. We also had the chilaquiles and the burger. The chilaquiles were good but a bit simple if you don't add on the extras. We added avocado, but the dish would feel more interesting with tomatoes, beans, meat, etc. The burger was also good, and we ordered it with the onion strings. Those strings were delicious! The burger itself was meaty. As a ketchup lover, I asked for some ketchup on the side to dip the burger into (the burger does not have ketchup on it otherwise). The ketchup was weirdly spicy. Overall it was a positive experience, but nothing truly exceptional. Cocktails and location were the highlights. Side note: Only one unisex bathroom stall for an entire restaurant, but it does have a surface to change a diaper.

Frisco (The City) represent! - Andytown Coffee - Bare Bottles - Burma Love - Che Fico - Proper Food - Robin And, now...Causwells. Not sure if it's a coincidence but all the Springline businesses in Menlo Park are from the city. Anyhow, why should you go to Causwells in MP instead of The Marina? * For the area, they have a solid cocktail program AND there's a martini cart! Not only was my Pimms Cup ($18) gorgeous, it was hella stiff. As the ice slowly melts, it infuses the gin with cucumber, strawberry, and lemon flavors. * Larger food menu with MP exclusives (If you live in Springline and lounging poolside, you can have food and drinks delivered to you.) * Spacious, more vibey dining area perfect for your socials. Comfortable, shaded outdoor patio. * Plentiful, FREE parking (underground garage). For food, we ordered two of the SF mainstays: * Housemade Ricotta w/ lavash ($15): Ricotta needed salt to balance the sweetness of the honey. * The American Burger ($24) -- Upcharge for fries (+$3), avocado (+$3), and pickled jalapeño (+$2) The patty was overcooked and dry, lacking the juiciness you'd expect from a good burger. Sorry but after three tries, I still find Causwells' burger mid and overhyped for the price point. We also ordered a new dish: Breakfast Jambalaya w/ chicken and sausage ($19) - it was boring and underwhelming, lacking the bold spices and seasoning you'd expect from a jambalaya. It felt like a missed opportunity to create something more creative like omurice or tornado egg to tie in with their AZN inspired cocktails. I wouldn't return for the food but the cocktails? Hell yas! P.S. - 4% surcharge added to all bills

Prime rib was tasty

I had such amazing memories of the whipped ricotta and food from the SF location, so I was super happy to hear a location opened in Menlo Park. The food is good, but not spectacular. It's a cute place for lunch or dinner though, and I love the whimsical take on cocktails! Service was excellent.

I saw a reel on this place which really made me excited to go, but I feel like my overall experience was super blah and underwhelming. I came on Easter Sunday, I had made reservations but came early and they were able to seat us right away. There was hardly anyone in here on a Sunday afternoon. Drinks took a while to order and overall service was kinda slow for the amount of people in here. I got the espresso martini which was average, nothing grabbing me to really want it again even with the coconut cream foam on top. My friend got a drink from the bar cart and really nothing too special I felt like it could've been made at the regular bar. The caviar was eh, I felt like bread needed to be with it. We asked two different people (one I feel like was the manager and semi brushed off explanation of what the dish was) and the waitress just hit us with a "no" and walked away when we asked about bread lol. Also there was minimal caviar in it. The burger was really good but the onion crisps seemed odd eating like they were just so thin, more like a topping than a side. My friend wanted the French dip but they didn't have it today. She got the chicken sandwich cut in half and I felt like the half I got barely had any chicken. Super small thin chicken for the sandwich. Overall the ambiance is so incredible but the food really didn't hit. Reminded me of poolside food, I think the the fries are frozen. The table next to us got the pancakes and in my head I thought they were gonna be super fluffy ricotta pancakes like the description, but they looked like the opposite. I don't know if it was an off day or bc it was a holiday, but it just missed the mark and I'm not planning to come back which is sad bc I thought I was gonna love it.

Had a really nice dinner at Causwells. They open for dinner at 5pm, We arrived a little early and asked to be seated outside as the weather was beautiful. There's plenty of parking both on the street and in their garage. The service was excellent. Everyone was welcoming and attentive, and checked on us throughout the meal without overdoing it. We ordered the homemade ricotta, charred Brussels sprouts, and the octopus. Everything was delicious. The ricotta with the rosemary honey and lavash was a great starter, the Brussels sprouts were perfectly charred with lots of queso fresco, and the octopus was tender and full of flavor. Can't comment on the cocktails as we only opted for sodas. Definitely a place we'd come back to. The food and service were both excellent.

Saw this place online raving about the oysters so I had to come only to find out they were out of oysters and they had a specific menu for that day/time. Really didn't want anything besides drinks and oysters, but I found the chicken sandwich that was just ok. Needed some extra seasonings/ sauces. The fries was great! The drinks was just ok again. The service wasn't that good had to find the server several times to ask for napkins, extra sauce and the check. The restaurant was nice and clean!

Pimm's Cup

Fun place to have a drink! Great service and beautiful restaurant! Pimm's Cup was delicious.

We came to Causwells for a quick bite after grabbing coffee at Andytown and ordered the crispy maitake mushrooms and duck fat hashbrowns. Unfortunately, both were pretty disappointing. The maitake mushrooms were cut into really tiny pieces. I was hoping for larger, more substantial pieces like the maitake at Twelvemonth so these felt a little underwhelming. The duck fat hashbrowns were the bigger disappointment. Instead of having that nice crispy golden-brown exterior, ours were pretty burnt. You could really taste the char which took away from the dish. On the positive side, both the hostess and our server were really nice and welcoming. Service was great, but the food itself was just meh.

I knew it was on California Ave. This was an old haunt of mine back when The Edge dance club was the place to be in this part of Palo Alto. Over the years I had still visited the area for its restaurants and the old camera store Keeble & Shuchat (closed for many years). Stepping into the very dark bar lit by small candles on the table I was immediately reminded at how old I was. It would say it was intimate, but it was a bit too loud to be that. However, it did have an intimate vibe. This joint's specialty (I assumed) was a menu full of house drinks. Sadly, I did not recognize any of them. I went with "You Should Try It" and it was fine. I could not describe what it tasted like, other than it was a mixed drink. My buddy ordered a "Vesper" but it didn't seem like the one Daniel Craig ordered in "Casino Royale". Service was okay and our server was very busy. Still, we got our drinks without having to wait too long. I had forgotten what it was like to go to a popular bar. Pic time.

This time, I stayed at the connected Stanford Park Hotel and enjoyed breakfast with my partner. The service truly stood out incredibly accommodating and friendly. There's plenty of parking but the parking lot is extremely busy so be patient when looking for parking. The restaurant is beautifully decorated and we were surprised it wasn't too busy on a Sunday afternoon. We were able to make a reservation for nine people no problem. The food is Asian fusion and everything was fresh and delicious. I ordered the loco moco which had a thick patty and the gravy was flavorful. My family ordered a mix of items to share amongst the table. They were good, but nothing that really stands out. The fries were crispy, but kind of starchy. Crispy Korean chicken sandwich was good; the meat was tender and the side salad had a nice, sweet, and refreshing dressing to it. +$3 for adding bacon The soft scramble was buttery and indeed was soft. The umami bacon was a whopping $8 extra and it tastes the same as the bacon on our chicken sandwich. That felt unnecessarily expensive. And the Brussels sprouts, while good for me, was too tough for my parents to chew through. Lastly, the loco moco also came with that nice salad as the sandwich. The dish itself was as expected - a burger patty over some rice with some sauce. It could've used some more sauce. So, overall, a solid place for brunch.

In all honesty, I'm always worry about eating at new places because what food so much but sadly, I have food allergies and I'm allergic to pork and monosodium glutamate/MSG. When I asked the store about a couple of items, she had to go ask the Chef and then to our surprise the Owner came up to our table and said how she hated S.J. because it gave her headaches so when her husband opened this restaurant, they made sure that they had MSG in it!! I was so freaking thrilled!!! For our first round, I got a porn star martini, my sister got tequila on the rocks. I know she had a particular brand that was Organic, but I forget which one since she only drinks particular brands. Hee. Both drinks were to our liking and then I switched to white wine and loved the bottle of white that the owner suggested. That bottle (pictured below) was clean, crisp, refreshing and had a slight citrus after taste that paired perfectly with a warm summer evening and the lemon from the calamari. The calamari was delicious and crispy with tartar sauce, although I wish they also had a chipotle aioli sauce, but I know I'm just being picky. The wings were pretty spicy considering we got the less spicy version- at least to me, but I can do a Level 3 spice at SJ's Scratch Chicken- WITH a beer handy! Hee Overall I loved the environment and they had a number of tv's playing different sports channels and a separate room in the back. That room was rented out for a private party, but the fact they had the space was nice to know. I will definitely be back here again and I'm thrilled to know I can eat ANYTHING I want, since most places accidentally have MSG in their food, such as Ranch dip, breading on fired items and in certain sauces. Even soy sauce as MSG, unless they use Tamari..... ayyyy. But I loved it here and it was an amazing way to spend my birthday with my sister! Hee. Until next month! We're going back!!!!!!
