    Empanadas De Camarn

What a nice spot for a drink and a bite. It's a little more expensive than some of the other options around but quality is on point. I came for just a drink and a bite but ended up having two drinks and three bites as it was so good. I had Cadillac margarita -- very smooth, not too sweet, could appreciate the tequila -- and a Pacifico second. I enjoyed the shrimp empanadas -- crisp outside, lots of shrimp inside, nice salsa that accentuated it, the elite asado (get it on the cob!). Large portion, rich, just enough char. And the dates stuffed with chorizo and manchego , wrapped in bacon, and it was pleasantly balanced, not too greasy or rich. Yum. Service was great at the bar with Sergio. Very attentive, personable, and knowledgeable. Great spot. Especially if you're lucky to stay across the street at the Cardinal. Kitchen Open til 10pm too which is nice since many spots around here close at 9pm. Bar open later. Tons of tequila offerings.

Went to a friends and family event for the San Mateo restaurant opening soon. All the dishes were plated nicely and tasted great. Staff was working hard and training. Team working hard on getting prepared for opening. Decor looks great. Kudos to Antonio and team!

We ordered crepe, which was stuffed with crab and fish. This was good. The crepe was soft and the fish and crab tasted fresh and tasty. I wish there was more crab and less fish. It came with rice which was really yummy. The chicken salad was good too. The chicken was moist and tender and the veggies were fresh. The mango margarita was yummy. It had the right amount of alcohol and sweetness- very refreshing. The ambient was nice. There is a huge bar in the middle of the restaurant with transparent windows into the kitchen. It was however kind of pricey for what you are getting.

I hosted a ladies luncheon. ordered the Seafood Crepe and it was delicious!! All the ladies enjoyed their orders too! Sharing two of their dishes. The service was great, very responsive and the atmosphere was top notch. The restaurant is very clean and stylish. Parking was available just around the corner at the Civic center. Super convenient as Palo Alto street parking can be hard to get. Give this restaurant a try. It's awesome!

kept seeing this location everytime I pass by Palo Alto and been wanting to try them. the place is neat and elegant. It has a chill vibe. The host was friendly to welcomed us and we were seated almost immediately. Our server was sweet and attentive. They have wine, margaritas and plenty of different cocktails and brews to choose from as well as varieties of food items that were interesting. We only wanted a couple of appetizers and some margaritas and thats what we ordered. we didn't wait long to be served our drinks and the appetizers followed shortly. And it tasted great! The margaritas were perfect and the appetizers were delicious! Highly recommend them and will definitely return!

I liked the interior decor. I appreciated the vibe and ambiance. It not a typical Mexican restaurant. It is what you would expect for one in Palo Alto. The food is good. The staff was friendly.

Drinks! Cadillac margarita and casa amigos reposado.

Food and drinks were delicious. We ordered carne a la parilla and it did not disappoint. Our Cadillac margaritas were on point! And the hibiscus lemon drop was the right amount of perfect! We also had a chips with a variety of salsas that helped out before the main course! Service started out slow (they may have been understaffed) but once they greeted us all was good. They kept our water filled and were attentive to what the table may have needed. Jesus, our server was very attentive and friendly. It was our first time in this restaurant and the atmosphere was amazing. The lighting was perfect and all around you could see people enjoying their meals !

This is one of the premier restaurants on Hamilton Ave, down town Palo Alto, specializing in Mexican. There is a modern open seating vibe with a long bar area. My colleague and I sat for an hour at the head of the bar enjoying a couple of cocktails until our party arrived for dinner. Pictured is the Tequila inspired Old Fashioned, which had distinctive Reposado tequila flavor with the orange and bitter of an old fashioned mixed drink. My curiosity is satisfied but I definitely prefer bourbon or whisky in my old fashioned. When our party arrived for dinner we were seated at a table near the front, next to the glass. We ordered a mix of appetizers and deserts for started and enders. I had a main course of chicken mole. The chicken was super tender. This was an excellent evening dining out.

The best I can say about this place is "It's not bad" however nothing really stood out for me taste wise or service wise. The ambiance is good The tall ceiling with ambient light feels nice. I was here to celebrate a friend's birthday and maybe that made it special and worth 3 stars. Vegetarian options are available and Chile Poblano was good. Drinks options are plenty however the one I ordered, Lemon Drop cocktail tasted like basic, too sweet lemonade. Honestly, I would have been okay with the quantity, quality, and the slow service if it was not this expensive.

Exquisite and attentive service. Nice ambiance and very unique flavors, especially in the shrimp dish. Smaller portions and menu than expected but wonderful menu items. Will definitely be back!

You can reserve the upstairs room as a private party

Do they have a separate vegetarian/Vegan menu?

    Yes

Do they offer margaritas for pickup?

    Yes, and sooo good!

When did Reposado get so darn expensive for happy hour?

It is Palo Alto, and everything is much more expensive here, starting with the rents. For istance, the rent of a similar commercial space in Downtown San Jose is half of what it is in Palo Alto.

As a speakeasy enthusiast myself I definitely agree to the fact that it is "hidden" but also it does kinda give corporate vibes a little bit - maybe we can say they "gentrified" the speakeasy experience which is honestly so funny for Palo Alto. But anyways I don't think a classification should stop you from visiting it. The food is actually surprisingly really good. We came with a pescatarian and honestly while the offerings for snacks were a bit slim, every option was really good. I feel like this was the first time where I understood the price even the the quantity is no where close to be desired. One shrimp is like $6 and I was like whoah. Service is definitely more laid back and it's overall just like a more chill atmosphere. I'm fortunate to work nearby so I'll definitely visit this place a few times after work to blow off some steam... And the drinks! Yes they are good! They are also quite strong! Would come back again but also if you're conscious of budget then I'm not sure if you'll find the same value proposition.

Food: 3 / 5 Service: 3 / 5…read more Ambiance: 2 / 5 Let's start off by making sure that we're all on the same page... This is NOT a speakeasy. Using that language sets up an expectation that neither the ambiance nor the vibe is able to live up to. I can only assume that those reviews that commend this place as a speakeasy have never actually been to a real speakeasy and are more accustomed to box restaurants and bars. I sat at the bar and ordered a bourbon neat with a water back. There were three staff members behind the bar, none of them were particularly friendly or outgoing, which as someone who worked in the industry for years is surprising as a new establishment. Even though it was happy hour time, it was a Wednesday the place was less than half full and good servers /bartenders normally add to the experience and help creat a customer base of regulars to sustain business after the "come see" crowd is over. I ordered d' nuts as a snack and they weren't very special, even a bit overcooked / burnt. Maybe this place is exciting for a Palo Alto crowd that doesn't get out much, especially on the stretch of California given the lack of competition. My guess is that after a few months they will be hard-pressed to find a steady crowd.

I got 2 quesobirria tacos and 2 tacos al pastor, and visually everything looked on point -- the plating was clean, tacos looked well-stuffed, and the birria tortillas had that nice golden crisp. But once we started eating, we all felt the same thing: the salsas were lacking flavor. And with tacos like these, good salsa takes everything to the next level. Here, it kind of held them back. They only gave me two tiny lime pieces, and I couldn't even get enough juice out of them to brighten up the tacos. Something so simple, but it makes a huge difference. We also asked for chips and salsa (they're not free), and they never came. Honest mistake -- they were cool about it and took it off the bill -- but still, it added to the overall experience. Another thing: the nopales weren't well cooked or prepped. They had that slightly tough, raw texture instead of the tender, seasoned bite they should have. Flavor-wise, the pastor and birria were decent, but with weak salsa and barely any lime, it felt incomplete. All four of us agreed on the same thing: This place could be great if they tighten up their salsas and the little details. I'd give them another shot someday because the base is there -- they just need that extra punch of flavor to really elevate their tacos.

I was the Designated Driver so I ordered an Iced Tea while others in the group ordered expensive double whiskeys and top shelf cocktails, The owner of the bar comes up to me and says, and I quote, " I paid 1.5 million dollars for this bar, you can't come in here and order iced tea, It's not a coffee shop, you need to order something more expensive" Despite a lifetime of experience of ordering food and drink, apparently I ,the customer, ordered wrong. Not having Iced Tea at a bar is like not having vanilla at Baskin Robbins. There are non-alcoholic drinks here which I was well aware of, but mocktails are usually full of sugar or zero-proof alcohols which often taste like salted donkey anus, So that's not happening with me. After taking a second to process, I put 2 & 2 together and thought this was a money issue, So I said "I don't care, charge me whatever, but I would like an iced tea" and the response from the owner was " I don't care, GO FUCK YOURSELF, GET THE FUCK OUT OF MY BAR" as he pulled all of the entire groups drinks back over the bar and started gesticulating wildly. At which point further "Pleasantries" were exchanged across the bar and at the end of it all no additions to police records were incurred and we parted ways. This gatekeeping and aggressively inappropriate behavior seemed wildly incongruent with the mantra of "What would Jerry do" ( Jerry Garcia of the Grateful Dead ). Regardless, I am never going there again, nor their sister restaurant Bistro Vida. This pretentious, overpriced, clown show of a venue can collapse in on itself as far as I care. The bars decor of cosplaying as a secretive 1920's speakeasy burnishes the venue's lack of differentiation which is in direct conflict with the bars new money aspirations of being elite or exclusive. The ridiculous idea that the owner spent X dollars necessitates you ,the customer, spending Y dollars breaks all social conventions that I have known throughout my entire life. There is no reason for a host/owner to behave like a foul mouthed spoiled child when asked for the basest of requests. The kicker is that this is not new behaviour from the owner and has been a long running aspect of the business https://yelp.to/rVUTLHQ53y ( review from 9 months from my encounter ) I refuse to support businesses that don't respect their customers. I would say it feels like a tavern for wealthy noblemen in 1800s England. Allow me to say where it fell short for me, and then I'll sing my praises. The wine... tasted like wine. I don't have a particularly refined palate when it comes to that. The charcuterie board was a collection of expensive items that I am personally not into: miniature pickles (too sour), meat pâté (bland), and what I think were pickled red peppers. There was no cheese, which was highly disappointing; however, if that style of charcuterie suits you, go for it. The music did not match the ambiance at all. They really should play piano or smooth jazz, because the 2010s pop was honestly annoying. DESPITE ALL OF THIS, the crowd was the real pull. Everyone was either on a first date or was an interesting adult. This makes for fun people-watching and stimulating conversations. People were very willing to walk up and talk to strangers. I saw many people doing so, I felt welcome to do so, and people approached me to converse. So even though the food wasn't great, and the music was horrible, I will return funnily enough because the decor and the people were worth it.

We stopped by before turning in, ordering the Fromage du Jour (a selection of domestic and imported cheeses), a Charcuterie plate (with thinly-sliced cured meats, pate de chevreuil, stoneground mustard, cornichon, and purple cabbage kraut), and the Marinated Olives. There is eating both in- and outside, but I recommend in dining al fresco to people watch. The place is small, but it gets busier, as it does open later in the day (4 PM to midnight)! Staff and the bar staff were friendly. +wine and cheeses +friendly staff +dine al fresco

I asked for a shot and beer special, with a beyond burger, which was excellent. I added some cooked jalapenos to the burger. The bartender's name was Johnny, I believe. At some point, I dribbled ketchup on my shirt without noticing. Now, with only two low maintenance guests, most guys would probably be looking at their phone while waiting for us to ask for something. Johnny never did. He was right there with a cloth and a glass of seltzer to help me with my shirt stain. In other words, he was friendly and paying attention. That's valuable and welcome. Scotty's is a friendly space overall, and I like stopping in before a show at the Stanford Theater, for instance.

The bartender was quick to help us and super friendly. We both had regular margaritas and they were good! We had just come from dinner so we didn't order any food, but I'd like to try it in the future since it seems like good pricing, especially for the area. The space itself is pretty small but it's nice to have another bar downtown! I look forward to returning.
