This adorable cafe is a must go to for coffee in the area! The truth of the matter it doesn't even seem like it fits in in the Citrus Hills area! I'm a New Yorker and wish Cattle Dog was in my home town :) my aunt has been frequenting this coffee shop for as long as I can remember ...she would fly to Florida every 6 months to visit my grandparents and each and every time she walked in to get her coffee they remembered her exact order! LOVE CATTLE DOG! I grew up in Citrus County and there was often no place to go to just get a good cup of coffee. I believe this place opened up some time when I was in college and it became a good study spot when I was back at home over breaks. I spent this past summer studying for my boards at Cattle Dog and the staff was extremely friendly and accommodating. They'd remember my order and bring snacks to my table when I was busy studying. My mother in law is in the nursing home close by so we've been passing by this place a few times. As a coffee shop lover I knew I needed to stop and was ecstatic. Because I love coffee shops so much this review may seem coffee snobbish but I feel like if you're going to be in the coffee biz you should be a snob, especially about your product. First thing wrong! A wall lined with coffee beans that anyone can open up and smell. Beans, once roasted should be in a sealed container. They're a roasting facility so this means they don't have that knowledge or they do and choose to bring their product down because of it. That wouldn't even bother me that much if my drink was even remotely good. Read their menu and saw they had rice milk. How interesting! I love rice milk! Ordered a mocha with rice milk and iced. Cashier kept asking me to repeat myself a guy behind her says soy or almond. I say your menu says rice. So I change it to soy. My husband orders. Then I hear the barista and cashier calling out our orders and I had to correct my order outloud to them multiple times. Finally got my drink and ewwww my tongue was coated in sugar. I posted a photo you can see the huge amount of syrup at the bottom not even mixed in. Tried to stir it but there was no hope. I had to order another drink. Just an iced latte please. Watched the guy make it not once using an espresso machine. Perhaps it was a concentrate? I will say that was better than my syrup cup. Watched multiple orders get "whip cream" from a bag. I would have given this place a 1 star but added a star back because the guy behind the counter knew a lot of the peoples names. Which means they have the community aspect down and reoccurring customers. But for a person out of town and expecting quality from a place who labels themselves a roaster something should probably be addressed. read more

Haystacker, my favorite drink! Caramel, coconut, and chocolate latte, either hot, cold, or frozen. Everyone should try it out! What a lovely place. With a display of freshly roasted coffee beans, we get to see all the different places Cattle Dog imports them from. The menu changes every month, but it is always good! There's so many different different drink choices, and I have never tried one that I didn't like. The staff is very friendly, and I always feel welcomed. The free wifi is very convenient, and I find myself spending hours there drinking coffee while doing homework. This has been my quiet humble getaway for years now; since I have been old enough to drive I've made this my after-school/work escape from reality. Anyone who knows me knows I enjoy peace and quiet, but with word spreading of my personal safe haven, I feel obliged to do what I can to help it expand. After all, Cattle Dog deserves every bit of the explosion in popularity that it's gotten recently in the past year or so. James, the owner, and his wife do a marvelous job of creating an exciting euphoric atmosphere while still holding on to the hometown vibe that I love. They accomplish this by having subtle yet impacting music, unique and mouthwatering meals and coffee, and via their habitually fantastic and always-friendly staff. Coffee is great but be really careful about the food. Had a lettuce wrap with rice in it and the rice was completely hard. Also the bag of chips had a hole in it before even receiving it. Not the first instance, but the croissants should be fine. read more

Whoa dog! The best latte I've ever had! I had the Mocha with Kahlua, I can't remember the exact name of it but wow oh wow, it was good.

Good food, but it took a half hour for the lone young lady working there to have it ready. On top of that, she gave me an egg and cheese bagel sandwich when I asked for the veggie biscuit wrap. She even verified it after we ordered! Another 7 minutes were spent waiting for our iced coffees. The place was not busy, either. Because mine is the only negative review, I have to assume that the employee was new and didn't know what she was doing. If I'm back in the area I'll try it out again. read more

My wife and I stopped in one day last month for a couple decaffeinated coffees and although the establishment is pleasant looking, and had tasty looking pastries, the coffee was the worst we had ever had. I asked if it had been made much earlier in the day and they assured me that it was fresh. It tasted horribly bitter and neither of us could drink more than the 2nd sip. I returned the coffees for a refund and left. I was especially disappointed as many of our local Nature Coast Mustang Club members meet there once a month and have said it was good. Maybe the fancy coffees are good but we just like ours straight up and decaffeinated. read more

Had wanted to come to this place for the longest of times. CDCR was recommended to me by a friend from Virginia, who always makes it a point to buy coffee from here to take back with him. Now I know why! The cofffee is simply DIVINE! Chose the Jazzy Java--love the cinnamon and rum mixed together; Angel's Kiss--an Almond Joy in coffee; Almond Biscotti; the Eye Opener--low acid with a kick; and the Cattle Dog House Blend--a combination of their most popular coffees. Obviously, it was impossible to choose from just one coffee! Also bought the Pistachio biscotti (yum!), cranberry walnut bread and cranberry orange muffin for my husband. All super delicious! Staff is super friendly and helpful! The menu items that we saw coming by looked wonderful and delicious! CDCR also carries a great variety of gift items, as well as sample bags of coffee for $3.00. They enjoy the hot chocolate, the mochas and the wonderful homemade bakery items. My husband and I like the salads and flatbreads. James is a wonderful Chef and makes the best lobster rolls! The menu changes and is quite innovative! Both James and Heather, the owners, are wonderful people who care about their customers and give back to the community.
