We waited an hour at lunch for 5 of us to get our food and was told we couldn't get the set ups that have ALWAYS been brought when you sat down. Now everyone gets a small ramekin of each item on their meal tray. No onions given either. so disappointed in this new policy, we will never go again, that was the only thing that kept us going there instead of getting catfish at Golden chicken Or Lisa's chicken which have just as good or better catfish. I liked that the fried okra; it was crispy and crunchy. The catfish was edible - crust was golden and crispy. The tartar and cocktail sauces were not what I was expecting. They did not enhance the meal. I will try once more. read more

Since moving back to big "A" we could not wait for dinner at a place we hadn't eaten at in over 20 years. Well- it must have sold or something. Let's not blame it on C-19, short staff or lack of product. Poor service, one piece of fish was rotten and the worse part is their tomato relish was no where close to what they previously served. We've enjoyed Catfish Sam's for 40+ years. But, we may have just eaten there for the last time! The food was still good, but the service was terrible. Our long-time male server was not there. Today's server (?) took forever getting to us. She was much too busy chatting with other tables, even those who came after us, making sure they had beer, etc. Our order took too long in coming, and the food, when it finally arrived, was delicious. However, they used to bring hush puppies, beans, tomato pickles, and dinner rolls out to give you something to "gnosh" on while waiting for your entree. Now, it all comes at once, with smaller portions of each. The place was not crowded. But, everything seemed to be slow coming from the kitchen. We were also stunned at the steep increase in prices. Our order was $21 per person for the lunch catfish special, even though two of our group got water. Other catfish places have better prices. But, what has set Catfish Sam's apart has been the "extras" and their excellent service. This time, they seriously let us down on both counts. This place has some of the best catfish in North Texas. Been eating here for years. My mom is at home in hospice care. My dad is being released from Arlington Memorial Hospital (ER yesterday, congestive heart failure). One of my sisters is driving him home now. I ordered lunch to bring to their house for myself, my two sisters, one brother-in-law, and my mom and dad. The man I spoke to on the phone said he would start the order in 15 minutes and it would be ready when I got there in 30 minutes. Just got here and the order was never even put, much less started. I went here after I got off work today instead of just doing take out I decided to eat in for the first time. I ordered the large catfish dinner with 5 pieces so I could take leftovers home. They delivered and entire cookie sheet filled with 5 huge thick catfish fillets 5 hush puppies, coleslaw, beans, pickled okra, tomato relish, a baked potatoe and a roll with honey!!! Ive been to Catfish Sams maybe 6 times over last 25 years. This place just isnt the same. I bet thier kids took the place over or they sold out. They used to have French fries but changed to those 'seasoned fries'(yuk). They used to bring you baskets of piping hot hush puppy sticks with real butter when you sat down. But now they just give you a few of those doughy hush puppy balls with your meal. Just lazy and indifferent. They invest way too much in relish items included with your meal. They give you a bowl of cold slaw, a bowl of green tomato relish and a bowl of pickles, pickled okra and onions. Pinto beans were overly thickened and were overly salt and peppered. Rolls were cold. Catfish was great. Tarter and cocktail sauce was that commercial stuff you buy by the gallon. Great service. Turns out I had driven by this place probably 100+ times in my life and always thought, "It's on Division, Division is shady, it looks shady, no thanks." But when the wife's grandmother wanted to go grab catfish here -- and the lady knows her catfish -- I figured it must be good. They serve you family style on the sides and those come early -- pickled okra (awesome), cole slaw, beans, hush puppies, bread, etc. And then you order your "meal" -- get the catfish -- and it comes out a few minutes later. The catfish is corn meal battered and good and crispy, like it should be. The fries aren't great so get a potato instead. The fries had seasoning on them which I like, but they tasted like they were bagged potatoes just dropped in a frier and then served up to you. All in all, this is a great place to take a walk back through Arlington's history. It was opened in one form or another in the 40s, still in the same family and servin' up some great catfish. I have to disagree with everyone else. I do not like Catfish Sam's. When I drive by they are always busy. So I figure I will try them once more. This was the first time back in about 5 years. Will I was not happy. The catfish for 2 pieces was 11.99 it had to much of a bad fish taste. My friend had the 9 dollar shrimp basket and it tasted like store bought frozen shrimp not good at all almost sent them back. He regrets that he did not. The chicken fried steak which my friend had last time we went here was a frozen store bought hamburger patty. The rest of the food on the menus such as the steak was way over priced for this type of diner food. We will not try this place again. And when we left the cashier ask how are food was. And my friend ask if she wanted the truth. Will she said nothing she did not want the truth. I did like the rolls and the tray of appetizers they bring out before your food arrives. read more

I will start off by reminding everyone that I don't eat seafood, unless you could the McFish! Met a friend for dinner and this place was just what I expected. I have dined here in the past, but it's not one of go-to spots due to the limited non-seafood menu. Here is a play by play for those who have never been. When you sit down, you are greeted by a nice lady (least we were) who gives you cool cylindrical hush puppies in a basket, along with some (new to me) garlic toast thingies. Ok, but don't waste valuable belly space on them! You also receive small dishes of dill pickles, onions, cole slaw and their famous green tomato relish. Finally, a steaming bowl of beans is put down and the grazing begins. Hush puppies could have been warmer, but they were ok. Normally I eat quite a few and I only had two, so something was off. Cole slaw is ok, tastes store bought and the dill pickles were pretty standard. I don't eat beans but my dinner date ate the whole bowl, plus a refill. I ordered the chicken fried steak, which was made in-house, according to the menu. For about $10, I got a thin piece of CFS, lightly breaded with this seriously way too thin gravy that had no flavor! The steak part was good, but the gravy was a big old letdown. I ordered a baked potato and it was on the small side, served with butter and one of those tubes of sour cream (weird for a dine in place, eh?) My friend got the catfish, also with a baked potato. His was identical to mine and he gobbled up the fish so I concluded that it was good. Nothing here ever strikes me as stellar, amazing, or worth making a trip for; however, for catfish lovers, this place seems to strike a chord. I thought there used to be an all-you-can-eat catfish option but I didn't see it on the menu this time. They have added fish tacos, for $2 each. We stopped to pick up some catfish meals during the Tarrant County Stay at Home Order. You can see what we ordered on our ticket. Our two meals were supposed to come with four hush puppies each for a total of eight, plus we ordered an extra dozen for a grand total of twenty. What we actually received was eight hush puppies total. I called the restaurant to give them a heads up that I was posting this on Yelp. I spoke with a woman that identified herself as the owner. She got very upset and emotional and accused me of threatening her by giving her the heads up that I was shorted twelve hush puppies from my meal. She said she would send us an offer for two free meals but she continued to insult me while making the offer even after I told her I was sorry I had upset her so. So here's the thing, when you order takeout check the order to make sure it is complete and everything that you are supposed to get is in the bag since her employees do not know how to count. I've been going here for years and just had my first unpleasant experience. The server was unorganized and acted as if she did not want to be there. When I asked about a charge on my ticket she just looked at me like "please shut the "F" up and leave me alone." When I paid for the meal at the front desk, the girl asked "how was your meal" so I told her "not good; maybe it will be better next time." Again with the look. Neither one of them offered to make it right. Unbelievable and Unprofessional. Management/owner, if you are reading this review please correct this situation so other diners will have a better visit than the one experienced by me. This is how restaurants start going downhill. They bring you: A basket of hush puppies, crunchy bread, beans, pickles, peppers, lemons and a few more things.
