This place is a staple in the city and expecially for senior citizens. It's been awhile since Ive eaten here. The food seems to lack seasoning. The setup is just bland. The beans lacked favor and weren't cooked all the way. Coleslaw just bland. Nothing stands out. However, I must admit, I've only had the fried fish. It's been the same forever. The catfish is good. The sides are weak. The worst part is the blonde hair light female server who pretends to be all nice and sounds a bit country. This place obviously doesn't pay their employees enough otherwise they wouldn't chase you down to the parking lot over a $2 tip... It isn't my job to pay or even tip you, it's your employers. Find another job if you're not making enough. Times are tough and you never know what someone is going through so why treat people with utter disrespect. Not all of us have money to earn someone's respect. Lady you did your job, the service wasn't bad at first nor superb. just because you get flustered with a crowd doesn't give you the right to treat someone like dirt. You think you deserve a larger tip because you're working at a restaurant. I've been in the restaurant industry for more than 15 years and I know damn well not to rely on tips you're crazy. The neighborhood is a lil run down and the outside of the building didn't look promising. But man of man were we glad we stopped. The fish was amazing. So was the shrimp and all the sides. The building is older, just ignore it. When you see a lot of older folks in a restaurant, you can count on good food and that's exactly what we got. Come with an appetite! Ordered the small plate with 2 filets. Large, cooked perfectly and I paid a little extra for spicy. The spicy was spicy and was a bit more than needed but still very good. It's been several years since I've been here. My mom and step dad wanted to come so I had no argument against that . They always bring a "Set Up" of beans , hush puppies, onion, pickles And okra for pre meal and there are still appetizers to choose from but the set up is plenty before your meal comes out. Used to love this place the food has become so gravelly over priced and isn't near as good and when I started going 30 years ago. You can't still expect bad attitudes unless you are lucky and have a server who's worked there forever. Only good they left is those stick hush puppies. I saw someone reach out to me but I don't know where the message went. Asking for your manager is a joke. I don't complain I just leave and learn a lesson and know I'll never go back. Y'all might need to clean your fryers a little more proper Texas Health Department Restaurant Managers certification. We were there early, but had to run an errand and by the time we got back, there were about seven cars in the parking lot, compared to the fact that we first earlier. It did not matter, as when the doors opened, we went inside and we were seated immediately. Both of my friends decided on the two piece dinner, while I got the three piece special that included three pieces of catfish, baked potato, beans, cole slaw, pickles, okra and hush puppies. The way I read the menu, it makes it seem like you get one side. Nah. I can't read and you get all sides. The baked beans I really liked. They were sweet and tangy. Then they give you okra, raw onions, green tomatoes, and cole saw. I loved the sides better than the catfish. Now I liked the catfish. Was seasoned well and was fried perfectly. I've been going here for years and terribly disappointed about how they now wait to bring how a super small portion of the beans and cornbread sticks out until your food is ready! I do not eat seafood so this is the reason I go here! So that tells you the catfish and the beans and cornbread are awesome!! What's not awesome are the French fries or the baked potato they bring out the baked potato barely warm and bring out cold butter and sour cream only no cheese unless you want to pay the $1.50 for it! It seems like I am the only one with a bad experience. I was really excited to go for the first time since I drive by it twice a day on my route to school. We went in a few days before Christmas and it was not busy at all. I order the catfish and when my food came out I took one bite and it was cold! Only the outside of it was actual warm and in the center dead cold! It felt like they microwaved it and got lazy and took it out after 10 seconds because my plate was hotter than the food itself. Sorriest food I've ever gotten from a seafood restaurant. The fish was nasty and tasted fishy and the coleslaw had no taste at all. Hushpuppies were ok but not nothing to brag about. The restaurant was slow with not many customers at all. We wasted our $50 on food we didn't even eat. You never know a place til you try it but it was definitely a waste of time and money.
