What a lovely place! As you walked into the door, you greeted by bright, cherry smiles, and a pastry case that is to die for. I went in for lunch and got one of the best Reuben sandwiches I've ever eaten. While I was there, since my sandwich was so good, I decided to get a grilled chicken salad and a small container of broccoli salad to take back to my hotel for dinner. The food here is phenomenal! If you are in Meridian and want some GOOD lunch, don't hesitate to stop in. I had the Cranberry Feta Chicken Salad, Pimiento Cheese and Broccoli salad in a trio along with the Roasted Red Pepper Gouda soup. I also ordered a gluten free blueberry crumb cake for the road. We searched for a place to eat in the area as we were traveling home. Plenty of choices on the menu. I enjoyed the chicken salad plate. I chose the chicken with feta and cranberries and a nice size was served with fruit. The stick of celery with the pimento cheese was a great way to taste the cheese...which they serve and sell too. My husband had the roast beef sandwich dressed perfectly to his liking and it was very filling. So many other food items too are available "to-go" from the refrigerated area and desserts too! Awesome chicken and pimiento salad made and sold here. Great environment. Clean and ample seating. Employees are nice, polite and efficient. We live in Florida. Our daughter attends Mississippi State University and we plan on stopping here every trip we make to and from there for our roadtrip meal, Lord willing. I was visiting family in the Meridian area this past week and my sister B took me one day to Cater's Market for lunch. It was my first time there. B had been there numerous times before and spoke well of the food. Cater's is one of those places where you order at the front counter, take a seat, and the food is then brought to your table; 'not a horrible way of doing things, but not my favorite. Cater's offers soups, sandwiches, salads, and desserts. Much of their business is to-go but they do have a cozy café area for dining on site. B had a 'pick three' salad with iced tea and I had a Club sandwich with tea. The staff was friendly and the food was all as satisfying as B had indicated it would be. I am certainly inclined to visit Cater's Market again on future trips to Meridian. read more

Stopped in for an afternoon coffee and sweet treat. The barista and owner were very helpful and nice. Coffee and bakery items hit the spot. It looked like the perfect place for a nice lunch with several salads, sandwiches and soups. In the market, there was also an extensive freezer section of house-made items to take home. Maybe I'm in the minority here, but in my opinion sugar does NOT belong in chicken salad. One bite and I was so confused! Salt is ok, cayenne is fine, even curry will do. Sugar though? Nope! I had the grape pecan chicken salad on a croissant. The bread was great and the sandwich was a good size, but no no no to the sugar in the chicken salad. I think you're getting the point about the sugar...So here's the good stuff! My husband liked the Reuben he ordered. The specials of the day sounded delicious. The shop/restaurant was packed full of interesting and different food items for purchase. The staff was very friendly and fast. Great little place to eat lunch, ordering is a little quirky for the first time visit. But, locals help out. The Thursday special is shrimp and grits, new twist on it. Comes in a bowl and more like a porridge of cheese grits, very tasty. The salad is very spring fresh greens, cranberries and pumpkin seeds, get their vinaigrette dressing. We moved away from Meridian a year ago. The only thing I miss( besides my dear friends) is CATER'S MARKET!!!! From the smiling cheerful staff that is eager to please you, the frozen meals and side dishes( spinach Madaline is Devine, as is Chicken spighetti, poppyseed chicken, too many to name them all . I cannot conclude without mentioning the best CHICKEN SALAD I've found anywhere! The dips, and pimento cheese are also outstanding. The staff here at First Consumers Financial of Meridian have ordered lunch here on several occasions. The staff is friendly and the food is awesome. On a recommendation I ordered a cake from Cater's. Just know that if you order a Sugaree's cake and expect it to be thawed when you pick it up, be sure to call a couple of hours in advance to make sure they pulled it out of the freezer. We had frozen cake at my dad's 85th birthday celebration. In addition, the layers had slid at some point so it looked like it was falling apart. We couldn't try to straighten it because it was frozen. To say I was disappointed is an understatement. I called and they offered sincere apologies, but had no way to remedy the situation. read more

I really do not understand the negative reviews I have read regarding my beloved Cater's Market. My experience has always been a pleasant one each and every time, whether I am in a hurry for lunch to go, ready for a relaxed dine in lunch, or picking up food for the road. Today was my second visit. It is a very attractive and clean restaurant. I had the Club sandwich which was good. I had the Ruben before and it was as little on the skimpy side. I had the cheese cake and it was disappointing...very little taste for some reason. I will probably go back because of the decor if nothing else. They do not have potato salad to compliment the sandwiches. They do have cold macaroni which is no substitute for potato salad in my opinion. I love their feta chicken salad! I always pick up dips (corn, pimento and cheese, blt) just to have on hand. I make a special stop there to make a goody bag for my niece in college. They make her a cooler filled with dips, chips, cookies, brownies and different munchies. She and her friends think it is the best thing ever! While traveling through Meridian, we looked for a local spot for lunch when one of our group noticed this place in a brochure in the lobby of the hotel we were staying in. It was quite a bit out of the way but SO WELL WORTH IT! Eight of us went for lunch on Saturday and almost all of us had something different off the menu. Everyone agreed the food was delicious.... from the house salad with grilled chicken to the chicken salad sandwiches, pimento cheese sandwiches, club sandwiches, etc. The staff was friendly and went out of their way to check on us numerous times to see if we needed anything.
