From our very first conversations about what our wedding would be like, we knew that food would be an integral part of our big day. CaterMarin is a wonderful caterer! Although we had a small-ish wedding (under 70 people), we had complex dietary requirements (for me, gluten/dairy issues), several vegans, soy issues, and seemingly about 10 other allergies distributed across guests (including many kinds of fruit). I know this made things pretty challenging for CaterMarin to track but they were so careful and willing to work with us on everything. The vegans had tons of options, CaterMarin carefully shared a list of all the dishes containing any allergens, and we didn't hear of a single guest having an issue -- which was amazing. They whipped up an Asian-inspired entirely gluten/dairy-free menu for us (Including a modified hoisin chicken entree that our guests loved)! My favorite things were the latkes with salmon or applesauce, the spring rolls, the chicken, the lentils, and the root vegetables mix :) Several guests remarked that the food was excellent and that they wouldn't say that about every wedding. CaterMarin pitched a menu to us, but were very open to the kind of menu we wanted. We didn't have super specific ideas, so we ended up picking and choosing our favorite-sounding dishes they'd done from about 15 of their sample menus and came up with a semi-Asian-fusion theme, and discussed which things could be made gluten and dairy-free. We did a tasting just to make sure, and didn't end up changing anything :) The service was also above and beyond. They brought special advance meals to a few people who couldn't make it to the buffet (like the bride and groom and the groom's parents), they offered everyone cocktail refills at their table, they made sure certain people got special refrigerated desserts based on their allergies/diets (which I'd purchased separately), they did things we didn't even think of like cut up our special gluten-free/dairy-free/soy-free brownies (from Crumble & Whisk) to make them last longer and serve off-menu cocktails on request (along with the usual good service like offering lemonade and champagne, making up the tables, bringing out the cake at the appropriate time - which needed to be refrigerated). Terry also partners with a linen, glassware and silverware company that has great-looking rentals (Heirloom). Their website wasn't super up-to-date but that wasn't Terry's fault. After a little back and forth, they came through with some really nice colors that matched our garden setting beautifully. Everything went incredibly smoothly and Terry was a delight to work with, and so sweet and caring (and chef Nick's recipes and cooking were splendid). In the time leading up to the event, Terry also advised us on what we needed to act on right away versus what we could take our time with. She's definitely a veteran of the industry. We only heard good things about CaterMarin from our guests. Terry recommended an alcohol vendor as well who looked very helpful, though we eventually went more of the DIY/discount route with BevMo. She also recommended us our great event coordinator, Leslie at Dandelion Events, and the two worked beautifully together to set up and break down tables/chairs and all the many management tasks of an event. I have to call out how accommodating they were for making special meals for specific allergies and dietary restrictions. Terry and CaterMarin did a fantastic job with our wedding at the Marin Art and Garden Center! Our venue had a set list of caterers we were required to choose from, and while we shopped around at all of the caterer options presented to us, CaterMarin offered us the best combination of competitive pricing, timely communication (we have come to appreciate this HIGHLY in retrospect), and impressive attention to detail and timing specifically catered to our venue. While some caterers had a more noteworthy "wow" factor when we were doing tastings, we left the tasting at CaterMarin not only having been impressed by the food, but also with the attention they were giving to our event. We could tell that they cared about making our event enjoyable and stress free. They delivered that on the wedding day. They had glasses of champagne and some appetizers waiting for us after the ceremony. Terry was the one to serve us our dinner plates herself, and she was great about checking in with us to make sure that everything was running smoothly. So nice to know in case something doesn't seem quite right! With regards to presentation, we were at a sweetheart table where we were served plates with both entrees--tritip with chimichurri and grilled salmon, both delicious--so we didn't get to see how the dinner buffet was presented to guests, but now that we have gotten all our photos back, we are even more pleased to see the presentation! CaterMarin initially advised us against using kegs, recommending bottles instead. We insisted on using kegs, and though CaterMarin was not particularly supportive of this, it did not ultimately cause any problems on the day of the wedding. In fact, many of our guests were impressed with how smoothly the bar service ran. Many of our guests have commented on how great the food was at our wedding, including some family members in the restaurant/fine-dining industry (which we took as a very high compliment!). I came to CaterMarin with a very difficult challenge: a gluten free afternoon tea reception on a budget. While most caterers I emailed immediately responded saying they could not accommodate my needs, Cindy jumped at the chance to think creatively about gluten free food options for a tea, in which you would normally serve scones, mini sandwiches, and all sorts of wheaty products. At the tasting, we were thrilled with what Cindy and the chefs had come up with: mini shepherds pie, asparagus wrapped in prosciutto, chocolate dipped strawberries and tasty orange cranberry gluten free scones! Because most of my guests can eat gluten, we also had very yummy (so I hear) tea sandwiches and mini eclairs, among other things. Cindy was so wonderful to work with throughout the process. She was warm and friendly and open to trying new things, not stuck in a cookie cutter wedding mindset like a lot of caterers are. Four days post wedding and we're STILL getting compliments on the food, which we had family style Californian. From the fresh greens and beets salad, the honey roasted chicken, salmon, butternut soup squash (to DIE for-- tastes like it has cream, but does not!) and mashed potatoes-and-parsnips, our guests and we devoured the food. Being vegetarian, Terry also specifically prepared sauteed vegetables and beet-tinted quinoa for me since I couldn't partake in the main courses: nutritious, tasty, well-seasoned, and perfect fuel for my wedding. My (hard to please) Chinese parents and many other guests also couldn't stop raving about the excellent service, and the fantastic appetizers (crab cakes!! yum). This is monumental since the food was American, and they are Chinese...! Everyone we've talked to during and afterwards said that the food and service were easily the best they'd experienced at any wedding. Also, the service! The attentive waitstaff was always one step of my husband and I, making sure that we were well taking care of. CaterMarin was included as one of about a dozen approved caterers at our wedding venue, and right off the bat Terry stood out. She was very organized (which was great because I didn't have a wedding planner) and also willing to work with me on creative solutions to stay within budget while still creating a fun menu. Terry worked through all the little details with us leading up to our big day, including providing helpful input on our timeline, which made coordinating with photographers and the DJ much easier. On the day of, she put me at ease by arriving early with her staff, helping me figure out table numbers, and doing place settings, but I was particularly blown away with the little touches. She set aside a small plate of hors devours and two glasses of champagne for us after the ceremony. Guests were also seated to a pre-set salad, which elevated the traditional buffet experience. We also had our own plates prepared for us by Terry so we could skip the buffet and spend more time with guests. Terry is outstanding! She and her staff completely exceeded expectations! We had our wedding at Deer Park Villa in Fairfax, and Terry polished all the details to make it come together beautifully. The tasting experience is fun (it was our only tasting experience) and showed the skills of Chef Nick. We were confident in the food, but asked them to make plated meals different from those we tasted (and different from those proposed to us). Instead of salmon, we asked for halibut (a crowd favorite), instead of steak, we asked for brisket (also good), instead of potatoes, we asked for polenta (really nice), and instead of pasta, we asked for a stack of roasted veggies (vegetarians loved it). Terry was supportive throughout our special requests. We met in person with Terry one time after our tasting to go through the details, and I think we talked over the phone twice. She managed the table, linen, and dining rentals, the layout, and helped us include small (and important) details in our timeline. She was also very flexible as our guest list changed in the final weeks. On the day of, she checked in with us during set-up, provided name card holders, prepared the table settings, and communicated with our food truck. Not to mention served up an incredible meal! Small things like putting a few appetizers and 2 glasses of wine in our bride/groom room (where we escaped based on Terry's recommendation after the ceremony), and providing two full meals for us to take home (which we enjoyed the next day since we are not one of those couples that was too busy to eat at our own wedding) were special touches that really meant a lot to us. Terry did much more than I expected from a caterer, but it was everything we needed for our simple but planner-less wedding. We hired Cater Marin on a whim for our small-ish (under 50 people) backyard wedding reception after walking by their storefront one day. And it was the best decision we could've made! Terry and her team are obviously an experienced crew, and very easy and friendly to work with. Wonderful, wonderful, wonderful. My wife and I cannot endorse Terry and CaterMarin enough. To begin, Terry was the first out of several potential caterers to respond to our inquiry for our wedding - and she was the only one to respond regularly after that! That immediately boded well for us, and we happily attended the arranged tasting. We were blown away by the quality of the food and the warm reception we received. It was clear that Terry had put a lot of heart and love into her work, and that showed. As we tried delicious chicken, asparagus, and potato souffles, we knew that CaterMarin was perfect for our special day. We were even more impressed by Terry's constant contact with us as we lobbed question after question at her regarding costs, the menu, technicalities, and set-up. If not for Terry, we may have forgotten a lot of essentials for the reception! CaterMarin didn't just provide the food during our reception at the Marin Art and Garden Center: They also provided amazing service, table set-up, a personal touch and interaction with the guests, and yes, I admit, a much needed talking to when I personally started freaking out about potential rain. This review is long overdue. Terry was an absolute dream to work with!! From start to finish she made planning a breeze. I cannot recommend her enough. We had Terry and her team cater both our rehearsal dinner and wedding - after working with her on our wedding and trying to narrow in on what we wanted for our rehearsal, it became abundantly clear we NEEDED her for both events. She was thoughtful with every detail from start to finish. From creating a cohesive menu, to renting linens and utensils, to assisting with timelines, she made this about as easy as wedding planning can be. (Even when I was a little crazy sending multiple emails a day!) I was nervous about day of coordination and while I was confident Terry could handle it on her own, I didn't want to have to worry about the other vendors we were using - Terry recommended Maayan Cohen from My Eventology who we ended up working with as well. It is clear what a tremendous working relationship these two have. (I would recommend both without any hesitation to any couples getting married or even planning a big event in the near future!) We have had a ton of compliments on the food for both events and continue to receive them - and we didn't do a tasting for either!!
