We wanted him to take his next steps with learning and experience things beyond what we could offer him at home. He got exactly that and then some. His teachers did a fantastic job getting him through the Pre-K and TK curricula; we still have a lot of his old school work showing how much he had learned and how much practice he had gotten. He would frequently speak fondly of his last teacher, Ms. Jackie, as well as the friends he played with at school. There was a classmate he would refer to as "Melon" that we think was his best friend and we thought it was so cute. We'd like to give our thanks to all of his teachers - Ms. Jackie, Ms. Emily, Ms. Nikki, and Ms. Bella! He really enjoyed the variety of extra curricular activities offered at Newport Ave, like dance, music, soccer (his favorite), arts and crafts, and taekwondo (his other favorite). As parents, some of our favorite things include the winter holiday performances, the picture updates on Remind showing what everyone is up to throughout the day, and the final letters from all the teachers he had connected with over the years. Ms. Mayra was a pleasure to talk to when dropping him off in the morning, as were the other teachers when picking him up at the gate. Communication over the Remind app is super simple and responses tend to be very quick. Since starting kindergarten, Nate has become a top performer in his class, and we believe Newport Ave Preschool deserves a great deal of the credit for that. We're so grateful for everything this school gave him.

WHAT WE LOVE: - The teachers have been here for years and have their process down and work with all the kids so well. The kids love all of them! - Competitively priced AND they provide you with 1/2 of the weekly tuition if you're going to be out for the whole week! - They provide breakfast, snack, lunch and afternoon snack! Most kids still pack a few extra snacks, but saves me time, stress and money! You can also bring your own lunch if your kid wants something specific...they post the menu every week. - They open early AND close later than most preschools that I found! This was much needed for me and my husbands work schedule - They have a great outdoor play area for the kids! - My son brings home so many projects he works on and has been learning so much academically as well! - As working parents we don't have a lot of time to do extras...they require very minimal assistance from us! For holiday parties, we can easily sign up to bring things...but no after-school events/performances/spirit weeks where we need to dress up the kids everyday! For us, that works best for our situation and we appreciate it :)

My son has been attending Edgewood Preprimary Academy for almost a year, and he is always so happy…read moreevery day! His teacher, Mrs. Barajas, is incredibly patient and energetic. My son loves her very much. Even though English is not his first language, she always finds great ways to communicate with him and has helped him tremendously in learning English. The Director, Mrs. Mauro, is very responsible and caring. She knows every single child well and takes time with parents to discuss each child's growth and needs. With the cooperation between the school and parents, children truly get the best support to grow. Edgewood also offers a variety of fun activities and even field trips, which both we and our child really enjoy. Before choosing Edgewood, I toured many daycares and preschools in Irvine and Tustin. What impressed me the most about Edgewood is the amazing student-teacher ratio. Their teachers are always energetic, passionate, and have been working here for many years -- the turnover rate is very low. If you are looking for a school with small class sizes where teachers can give more attention to each child and really get to know them, Edgewood is the best choice. The teachers here truly love every child. And beyond all that, the school offers excellent value for the quality of education provided in this area -- something that makes us appreciate our choice even more.

I want to especially highlight Mrs. Mauro, the Director, and Mrs. Barajas, my son's classroom teacher. Mrs. Mauro is a very responsible and attentive leader. She knows every child well and communicates with parents in a smooth and timely way. Whenever there's a question or concern, she addresses it right away, which gives me so much peace of mind. Mrs. Barajas is incredibly gentle and patient. My son is quite energetic and not the easiest little one to guide, but she always takes the time to teach him with kindness and understanding. I'm truly grateful for her dedication. As a parent, it makes me feel very fortunate to have such supportive and caring educators helping me on the journey of raising my child. Edgewood is truly a wonderful place for young children to learn and grow.

Worst tour experience to date. Full story here: As soon as I get passed the gate I'm asked to put on a mask, all teachers wear them I guess. (Which I wouldn't mind but why wasn't I told about this prior to the tour?) she took my temperature then asked if I was sick, ( I have allergies, hello Spring pollen ). I was taken back to nursery where I could see infants through the window. Decent setup, not amazing but just ok. It smelled like cleaning supplies pretty strong in there so hindsight I'd like to know what they clean with since my daughter would be breathing in those fumes. Toured the outdoor play yard toddlers and infants sections. I was extremely disappointed, it looked dirty. And barely and play equipment in infant area. The fake grass needed to be replaced and there was red tape on floor that seemed to be holding it together. I asked how much to start my daughter at end of February, the response was "it's $1600 a month." Yes I understand that my reply. But asked how much for registration and just for February? How much do I need to put down yo start my daughter. Her reply again was its $1600 a month and February would be prorated. I already knew it was only one week in February which should be $400 plus their registration fee. It took me at least two more times asking how much to start before she walked me inside to get her assistant to figure the prorated amount. While we're waiting on that I ask to meet the teachers in the nursery. Her response was "you can meet them after you pay" Utterly ridiculous! I can't meet my daughters card takers until AFTER I PAY⁉ I said I'm not signing my daughter up without meeting her teachers. Then she said oh, ok let me get them. She walked away but at the point I was done! The place is old, dirty, chemical smelling and director rude, only cares about your money. Not once did she acknowledge my daughter say hi to her at all or make me feel welcome. I told her it's not the right fit for us, we're leaving. Then she asked why and kept trying to stall us asking what went wrong and how to fix it. I told her everything I listed above but she didn't listen and didn't seem to understand what my problem. Maybe it was a language barrier thing on her end but it's 100% NOT something I want to deal with in a daily basis on top if everything else. FINAL NOTE - STAY AWAY. I ended settling on a wonderful in-home daycare I loved for far less. People who actually wanted to meet my daughter. Honestly any of the other daycares I been to would have been better than this place.

Instead of being comforted or gently helped to transition, the staff's solution was to isolate our child from the other children. There was no warmth, no reassurance, and no effort to help our child feel safe. This was shocking to us, especially since our child is typically wonderful in other social settings and has never had issues like this elsewhere. Drop-offs were especially uncomfortable. There was never a friendly greeting or any attempt to connect with our child or with us as parents. The staff consistently appeared emotionless, dry, and indifferent, which only made an already difficult situation worse. We were told that this school used to be a great place, and after speaking with other parents who had also pulled their children out, it seems many feel the quality has gone downhill significantly. Unfortunately, that was very evident in our experience. What's most upsetting is that this environment seems to have genuinely traumatized our child. After leaving Great Foundations, we enrolled our child in another childcare program, and the difference is night and day. Our child literally dances when we drop them off now, which tells us everything we need to know. We would not recommend Great Foundations Montessori to any parent looking for a nurturing, supportive environment for their child. This was a horrible experience that we regret.
