Carpool hours are Monday through Friday 5am-10am and 3pm-7pm. What's better then waiting thirty minutes for the toll booth to pay four dollars? FASTRAK! What's better then paying four dollars for FASTRAK or WestCAT Lynx bus fare? Casual Carpool! Zip through the sea traffic and make to the city from Hercules in a mere 25 minutes, just enough time to listen to some of the fav tracks from Crown City.

Other than that, BART is generally close to on-time in my experience! +2 star for the surprisingly pretty views of rolling hills and tranquil ponds as you get deeper into the South-East Bay, which make this city girl feel like she's visiting the countryside far, far away.

Not terribly useful most of the time, but if you ever accidentally ended up at the wrong airport and still had two hours or so before your flight boarded, you might actually have made it. Sadly, this line doesn't run all the way to SFO anymore, but you can still do that trick by transferring to a different line.

In theory this Free Shuttle that is run by AC transit is a great idea. It could really be a great…read moreservice for those who live in Oakland to be able to get to the downtown Bart stations, Jack London, and to Grand Ave. But unfortunately it's irregular especially in the afternoons. Half the drivers are related to Oscar the Grouch and the Grinch who stole Christmas. And in actuality the shuttle isn't free because Oakland residents have a special assessment on their property tax, requiring us to pay for this unreliable service. As a tax paying Oakland resident, I'd rather stop paying taxes on this service and get rid of it.

If you are taking taking the ferry/bart from the city, spending a day near Lake Merritt, Old Oakland, City Center, Chinatown or Jack London Square, this free service allows you to roam up and down downtown length of Broadway fairly easily. There are a dozen or so stops-pretty much located by anything you'd want to go to. There are some flaws. The scheduled time of one bus every 15 minutes doesn't always happen. Most times you are looking at a 20-30 minute wait. It can be super packed, especially the stretch that runs by Chinatown, so it's highly likely you'll be standing or at least sharing a not very comfortable seat most of the way. Some of the drivers are super professional others not so much. Mostly however it's pretty awesome. For one it's free and allows you to easily roam all over downtown Oakland. This makes it easy to bounce down to Chinatown or swans market form the office buildings near lake merrit for lunch or dinner, or a spot of shopping. Handy for getting to jack london square or the amtrak station as well. Perfect for happy hour bar hops. Did I mention the free part? 'Cause that's the best thing evah.

Besides, I'm trying to write 100 reviews in 2013 :-) First: where. In CoCo, there are two spots I know of, the Lafayette BART parking lot and the side of the Orinda theater (my preferred spot). I don't know about pickup spots in SF to ride home. In Marin, you can pick up a ride at the Park-n-Ride in Mill Valley. Second: economics. It saves money (BART ticket or bridge toll/gas) and time (a few minutes if you're BARTing, half an hour if you're driving). Just get three perfect strangers into a car and off you go, afflicted with carpool tunnel syndrome. Three: riders. You probably won't meet your special someone in casual carpool; you probably won't even say anything besides "hi" or "Front and Pine". Or maybe you will. One salesperson exchanged business cards to get contacts for her business. It can turn into a good social event to wake you up better than coffee does. My memorable experiences: (1) The poor man with a small pickup who just couldn't get anyone to ride with him. (2) The lady driving a convertible with the top down. As we were getting onto 24, she started to put the top up, and the other passenger and I said "No, leave it down!" It was perfect weather on the Bay Bridge, therefore my most memorable commute ever. (3) I had to drive into The City for a few months, so I was the driver this time. 98.6% of the time, drivers play KCBS (traffic report), but I played either Phil Keaggy or Randy Stonehill. Once, the lady riding shotgun commented positively on Stonehill's music. We talked for a while, turns out she was a regular at St. Patrick's Church. We didn't keep in touch, but that was a good ride for both of us. It won't work for many people, and others get skittish about riding with strangers, but it's worth a try if you're adventurous.

Prices go higher and higher - I think voter approved. I suppose its a good idea to maintain these things - paint to prevent rust and earthquake retrofit and so on. Nothing but Fasttrak accepted anymore. Gone are the days of toll collectors taking $2 cash. I suppose all that exhaust fumes weren't good for those people anyway. Be careful to have your Fastrak in good order. Update your credit card when necessary. Don't want the fines for not having proper account. Paper bills cost a little extra money and they are sent maybe 6 times a year - every other month.

She took down my info, gave me a fare, and an ETA for the driver. She gave me an ETA of 20-30 mins, which wasn't accurate because the driver still had a fare onboard. It turned out to be more like 45-60 mins before the driver arrived. So allow extra time for the driver to pick you up. The driver did call me when he was enroute. He arrived in a super clean Prius, and apologized for being late. He used a direct route to where I was going, and there wasn't much delays. I would use this cab service again.

If I miss her, immediately she calls back! She is professional, yet goes above and beyond, caring for me like we are family!
