Called, Owner dosen't service East Oakland area...just to the airport. Didnt even ask where in East Oakland I live.

I will never forget this experience. Hussein showed up exactly at 4am and patiently waited while we struggled to get the baby in the car seat (he even told me "you gotta put the baby in first", which was correct). We got to OAK without a hitch. As we were unloading, we looked around for the cooler with the baby's milk and my laptop bag... And they were nowhere to be found. I realized that I'd left them on the curb in Oakland at 4am, and my heart sank. I immediately knew they'd be long gone. But Hussein didn't skip a beat - he said, "I'm going to get them." We watched in disbelief as he zoomed off. Literally 20 mins later, I get a call - he found the bags! He was like, I'll be there in 7 mins... I'm not going to even guess how fast he was driving back. He pulls up at the airport curb where we were still standing (still in disbelief), and he hands off the bags, safe and sound. I told him that I'd pay for the additional round trip, but he wouldn't have it. Just charged me for one way. I protested, but he was like don't worry about it... Gotta go get my next ride. Since it was a Square charge, I relented, but I gave him a really good tip. Obviously getting the bags back was worth way more than that to me. The guy is seriously a hero. I literally felt a renewal in my faith in humanity because of his selfless act. We called him again for the return ride, and we're always going to get him for every other ride here on out. I fly out of OAK or SFO every Monday, and have used Air Express Cab each time. It's a family-run business, and all the drivers are easygoing, professional, and most importantly, always on time (except for one time but the guy apologized profusely and I still made it to the gate on time). I can call at 11:30pm for a 4:30am pickup the next time, and a cab will be waiting for you downstairs without fail! Here's a shout-out to Abraham, Hussein's nephew. I used this company to transport me to SFO for a trip to Europe. They answered the phone when I made the reservation and called to confirm they were coming. The driver was at my house on time and carried my ridiculously heavy suitcase without complaint. He drove safely and while friendly did not feel the need to talk incessantly. I got the feeling if I was a chatty Cathy he would have been happy to oblige. I have feared for my life from the driving of other services. I have also wanted to knock myself unconscious from experiences of drivers with heavy accents that flap their gums nonstop and ask questions to boot. Update: Hussein, one of the drivers (and the owner perhaps) contacted me and greatly apologized for the inconvenience. He also paid me $100.00 out of pocket so I can pay my bill while he and the bank worked out the discrepancy. It was unfair of me to judge the company solely based on one driver so 5 stars for Hussein (and 1 star for the other). If you plan on taking this service, I suggest you call Hussein directly at (510) 978-1234 for a reliable, hassle-free ride! I am hardly picky when it comes to taxis/sidecars/lyfts/uber. It doesn't matter to me whether the driver is nice or not, as long as I get from Point A to Point B at a reasonable price. Last month, I took a cab ride from Air Express Cab that was a little over a mile away from a bar to my apartment and it cost me $108.40. Yes, that's right: $108.40! The driver tried swiping my card with his Square device several times and told me it wasn't working so he had to make a manual charge via phone so I trustingly signed the receipt (which I should have double checked.) We said our thank yous and goodbyes and all was done... Until I checked my credit card statement. The driver charged me two separate amounts - one for $100.00 and then another for $8.40 (the correct amount). I had to go through hell and back to dispute this charge with my bank and Air Express Cab. read more

Air Express Cab with Ali and Hussein was, is and will be the only car service I'll use in the Bay Area. I made a Yelp Account for the sole purpose of singing their praises as well as clearing their name of any offenses listed in other reviews (obviously the ones that are NOT 5 stars). The company I work with uses Air Express Cab exclusively three to four times a week for airport shuttle service. We gave one of our visitors the name of the service to use as their source of transportation, since we have a prepaid account with Air Express. Strangely, the taxi that arrived was 30 minutes late and completely rude to our visitor. We had already arranged for the pick up the day before and were shocked to find them tardy, as they had never been before. What got even more suspicious was that they had charged our visitor. Now I knew this was more than strange, so I confronted the driver asking for Ali or Hussein. Apparently, another car service operating under "Eco-Friendly Cab" had somehow falsified their Yelp account to list Air Express Cab's stellar reviews. Soon enough, Ali, Hussein and the cops showed up to resolve the problem. Our visitor got their money back and hopefully, Air Express Cab will get their business and impeccable reputation back as well. Key points to ensure that you are in fact using Air Express Cab and not some phony reputation stealer: 1) Call 510.485.4848 and no other number, even if it's listed on Yelp. 2) Ali or Hussein will be the only ones who answer the phone. No "friend of Ali" should be accepted. 3) The car that shows up will be a clean orange cab with the name AIR EXPRESS CAB. 4) Amazing service. read more

They are less like a cab company and more like a crazy friend who is just waiting around to give you a ride. In fact the only difference between my friends and Air Express is that Air Express shows up on time. Both times I've used them I had great service and a fun driver without any of those pesky things like a professional dispatcher (the driver was dispatching, driving and flirting with a girl on the phone all at the same time) or marked cars (I've only been picked up in an exceptionally clean but unmarked black Prius). There's also a lot of ambiguity about the fare since the unmarked Prius didn't have a visible meter, but the fare has been entirely reasonable both times I used them so I don't mind. Until one of their unmarked cars ends up being a gypsy cab that harvests and sells my organs on the black market*, they will be my default cab choice in Oakland. *Important note: I have absolutely no reason to think this will happen. read more

Actually, I tried out air express because the Yelp reviews were so good. I've been using these guys almost exclusively for about 6 months now, and I won't be doing business with anyone else. These guys are super nice, super reliable, cordial, and it's just a pleasure to give them my business. I have ridden a number of times with Hussein in particular and he's just a great guy all around. Wow! If there ever was a business that the Yelp community really got right, this is it! I have had lukewarm to bad experiences with cab companies, but thank you Yelp, you really steered me in the right direction with this company. When I needed to return to Honolulu after a short business trip recently, I called Air Express Cab the night before to arrange a morning pickup at the Waterfront Hotel in Oakland. The cab was already waiting for me when I got out of the hotel lobby at the appointed time. Unfortunately, I don't remember the driver's name, but he was the friendliest driver I have ever encountered anywhere in the world. We talked about subjects ranging from what it's like to emigrate from another country, world peace, and physics. He was an obviously learned man who loves to read. Our trip to Oakland Airport was pleasant, and too short, since I would have enjoyed talking all day with this very smart and engaging man. The fare was only $37 including tip, which was far more reasonable than the van I had to share with other riders that I took from the airport to the hotel a few nights earlier. The next time I am in Oakland, I will definitely use Air Express Cab, and if you are a person who can really appreciate friendly, efficient service, I hope you will accept my unequivocal endorsement of this company! read more

I've been using Air Express Cab since I moved to the Bay Area almost two years ago. Without fail they are prompt and courteous. Until last week, I would have also said immaculately clean and professional. They get 3 stars today instead of 5, and that drop is based on two bad experiences. 1) On a recent trip to OAK, a new young driver became lost. We arrived in time, and he adjusted the price, but still, not cool at 4:00 in the morning. 2) When AbdulJabbar picked me up last week for a trip to OAK--another new driver for me, in a "new-to-them" orange van--it was FILTHY. Two packs of cigarettes and a bag of Taco Bell in the consol in front, food on the floor and seats, and the reek of cigarette smoke in the air. He had obviously been smoking in the taxi--very uncool. I won't condemn Air Express as a whole for two bad trips to the airport after two years of great service, but it was unacceptable. Without two years to back up a generally positive service, I wouldn't call them again. I will be sure to ask for Hussein or Ali next time I book ahead. I see overall the ratings have dropped in Yelp!, which is where I found them the first time, so I'll give it one more shot. Three strikes... read more

Ever since I moved to the East Bay 2 years ago, I've used Air Express Cab as my go to cab service. I have taken these guys maybe 30+ times already, (to the Airport, and even to places um, 15 minutes by car away, in ridiculous hours in the morning to catch early flights), and they've never let me down!! Absolute professionals. They will be there when you need them. They will accept your credit card (although worth double checking when booking) with no complaints, even when you're just going 15 minutes away (hey, life without a car can sometimes be hard). And, they are always super, super friendly. Outstanding customer service. I trust them when I'm catching early flights. I trust them when I'm heading to important business meetings. Air Express saved me. I called at 11:30 on Friday night and they were at my house promptly the next hour at the crack of dawn. Had such a great experience with Air Express Cab getting to my early morning flight out of SFO. My driver picked me up right on time (4am!) in Berkeley and we drove off into the sunrise. I was shocked that it took less than a half hour to get there. (He teased me for having asked for a 4am pick up for my 6am flight. But seriously 25 minutes from downtown Berkeley to SFO?? Awesome.) When the Uber app decided to malfunction and it was already 45 minutes before my flight departed, I was ready to "+1" to my number of missed flights. But I reaaaaally did not want to take BART, so I decided to call a taxi. I was picked up around Unit 3 (UC Berkeley) in 10 minutes by Hussein, and he greeted me with a great big smile. I told him that my flight was leaving in 30 minutes-- we weren't going to make it. That's when my life changed. He hit the gas and we were flying by cars left and right. I got to the airport in a little over 15 minutes...and guess what-- I MADE MY FLIGHT (thank you!!!) The customer service is great. He tells me he works 24/7, which is pretty awesome if you ever catch a late flight and don't want to take BART at 10pm nor pay $60 for a taxi. Super friendly!! read more

Fantastic cab service. I first called Thunder Express Cab around 8.30 this morning and asked to schedule a cab for 10. After waiting for almost ten minutes on hold, I figured I'd try somewhere else. Good call! My Air Express driver was extremely friendly and prompt--he called me about 12 minutes before my scheduled pick up to let me know he'd be there in 5. I have used Hussein a couple of times over the past years. He seems to have a stable and reliable service. This past trip, I was a little bit worried to arrive at SFO and find that he had sent one of his "friends" but it all worked out and I remain a fan. The fellow was a good driver and got me home expeditiously. When I need a cab to the airport, this is what I use. Needed to catch a flight from OAK to BUR and didn't know if I was going to make it on time. Going home for Christmas I had a lot of bags with presents and I was not about to walk a mile to 19th Street Bart and take AirBART. So I looked on Yelp for a reliable taxicab service to the airport that was in my area. I gave Hussein a call and in 5 minutes he was outside my apartment. SO FAST! He then helped me with my bags and made my ride to the airport pleasant and carefree. He even provided me with life advice on how to stay safe in my neighborhood. We had a great chat and before you know it he got me to the airport during rush hour in about 15-20 minutes. It was great, I was able to make my flight on time for Christmas and received a discount! He charges much less than other taxicab drivers who charge $35 or more for a 10-15 min drive to the airport as they are trying to compete with shuttle service drivers for clientele. Thank you Yelp for all of the great recommendations - I'm so glad I followed my gut and called based on your guys' reviews. I try not to take a cab as much as possible because it's a little pricey for a student salary, but I had a 6am flight out of Oakland and didn't want to get on Bart at 4am. So I started searching Yelp and found Air Express. I gave them a call about four days ahead and asked them for a 4am pickup. They are very easy to get ahold of - always answering their phone. I called to verify the day before, a little nervous about experiencing a no-show, because I would be in big trouble trying to find another ride at 4am. They confirmed they would definitely be there. Air Express was outside my apartment a few minutes early, and had me to the airport in no time. It ended up being about $50 but I got the first-timer discount so I think it was around $42 or $43, and then I tipped him. The price is hard to swallow when one way of my flight costs $50 to go to LA, but I guess that's life. I will definitely be using them, and probably only them, again. read more

My son was very ill at Children's Hospital in Oakland and since our family had only one car due to an insurance fiasco, I had to hire a cab. Hussein, the driver, was prompt in picking me up, and knowing that I wanted to see my son as quickly as possible, got me to the hospital promptly and safely. Yusef is amazing. I scheduled an appointment a day before for SFO and needed the cab for 4 am which is early lol. I woke up extra early to get ready and looked outside at 3:45 and there he was waiting outside. I don't know how early he got to my house but he called me 10 min before and told me he's outside. The car was clean, the scent was really good, he was supper friendly and down to earth. We got to the airport at record time and helped me with my luggage. I had 2 big suite cases so he ran and paid for a cart from his own pocket and wouldn't take any money in return. He was amazing lol I recommend Air Express over all companies.
