While on the way from downtown Berkeley to the Oakland airport, my driver completely missed the exit for the 880 and took me several miles on the 580 instead. When he realized his mistake, he got off the freeway, turned around, re-entered, and then almost missed the exit again. To compensate for almost missing the exit, he made a last minute lane change over the curbed median onto the off ramp to transfer freeways. Then to top it off, he refused to deduct the entirety of the extra amount off the fare. I used the fare calculator on the website to calculate the estimated cost so he could deduct the excess off (as this was his mistake), but he would only take $5 off. The operator I spoke to when I booked the cab estimated it would be $45, the fare calculator online said $49, he charged me $54. I called the main office to file a complaint and rather than talking to me, they asked me to hand the phone to the driver, and then they hung up after speaking with him. He then turned around and said "they said I'm right." In the grand scheme of things, this is not a huge deal, but when it is tacked on to a dangerous drive, it was enough for me to write this report. I would never recommend this cab company to anyone. There are plenty of other cabs out there. Save yourself some trouble and take one of them.

I don't know why other customer ratings are negative, but I suspect that they did not follow up on their initial call, nor did they pay attention to where their driver was going. Phone the 234-5555 number to contact this company, because there are too many Express Yellow and Yellow Express companies listed here -- the poor performers may not be the same as this one.

I called them from the West Oakland stop and asked for a pick up, but the guy told me to just flag a cab down when I got there. When I explained that I was calling so that I would have a ride when I arrived in a few minutes, he told me to get off at the 12th St. stop instead and flag a cab down there because there are a lot of them waiting there. I couldn't believe what I was hearing, so I just responded, "Um, okay," and hung up. Now, of course, if I had gotten off a stop before, it's also going to cost me more to get home. How convenient for them. At that point, I was so stunned and so pissed that I decided to just get off at 19th St. anyway and make the walk.
