I live close to port and this is our go to place for casual food. Priced reasonably, portions more…read morethan generous, service good and friendly. Last time I was there $17 for 3 large bangers, mashed potatoes and an assortment of steamed fresh vegetables. Plus gravy. Come on. Excellent. They redid the outdoor patio last year and even though it's in a parking lot they did a nice job. Downside this location has been home to at least 2, maybe 3 failed restaurants before. John's came in and did a dust and clean repairs and paint. But you can't get away from the old restaurants. Oddly there is a second room that is large that used to have couple poor tables and a bunch of tables that only gets used for parties and occasional overflow for the main area. Washrooms for men is tiny and needs a makeover, so is the main area. Really dated decor. It's tough. Do you renovate and raise the prices to cover the costs or do try to keep costs down and keep the prices down? For this location it's starting to feel really worn. However the food is still great and we have even used it to cater a small party of 16 last year. I only took one star away because of the lack of any ambiance and the need of updates.

Truly a hidden gem in Port Perry. And I mean that both literally and figuratively. Castle John's is…read moretucked away in the back of a very small strip mall, you would never know it was there. To say I was pleasantly surprised is an understatement to say the least. We walk in to find a very relaxed, comfortable environment, nothing fancy. Some booths, a nice bar, classic rock music playing, lots of TVs for sports and a friendly greeting upon our arrival. Great selection of beers and a big menu. We tried the burger (they put it together exactly the way I asked), the Grilled Vegetable Sandwich and an order of Buffalo Hot Wings. All were excellent and perfectly presented. The wings especially were great! Wings were huge, perfectly cooked, crispy, Buffalo hot sauce was spot on. At first glance, the pub looks small, but if you go towards the back of the restaurant, you'll see an open door to another section that has pool tables, more seating, a big screen TV and a cozy fireplace. So if you haven't tried Castle John's yet, it's time to check it out. Highly recommended!

On a recent road trip through Port Perry with my cousins, we stopped for lunch at The Lakeview Pub…read more Their patio, with umbrellas and a tent, looked inviting, especially with grey skies overhead. My cousins ordered the Mac n' Cheese Poutine, Beefed Up Poutine, and Blue Cheese Burger, while I had the Jambalaya (without shrimps). The poutines looked good, especially the beef one, topped with crispy onion straws. The fries were also crispy and there was a good amount of beef and gravy. The other one had lots of mac n' cheese smothering tater tots. Both were good! The burger looked great, with its 8oz patty smothered with blue cheese and caramelized onions. It was also served with crispy fries. It looked good enough for me to second guess my choice. I had the jambalaya with chicken and Italian sausage, minus the shrimps, due to a shellfish allergy. It was pretty good, although not authentic. I would have preferred the more traditional andouille sausage. Overall, the food was very good and the portions were generous. I barely finished my jambalaya and my cousins all took home leftovers. With good food, nice ambiance, and great service, I recommend this place!

Needles to say we will never come back. They could have at least said they would rush our reorder,
