One more update on this leak and water damage that Castle Cleaning caused -- I filed a chargeback with my credit card, and they refunded me. Stuart, being the roided-out hothead he is, left a hostile voicemail to gloat three weeks later and tell me "Game over, you lose, I win", because the credit card company still paid him for the service. I only wish I had saved that voicemail. Stuart, for charges less that a few hundred, credit cards will often eat the cost. Also, what part of that voicemail is "professional", I don't know. What can I say, Castle Cleaning is not only great at what they do as a cleaning service, they are also one of the best service businesses I've ever dealt with, period. We had a full deep cleaning of our two story house done. The price was more than reasonable, the cleaning crew was friendly and efficient. The level of cleaning detail was out of this world. My wife and I were down on our hands and knees looking at every corner of the house and we couldn't find a spot they missed. My wife got giddy when she saw they special folded all our hanging bathroom hand towels like they do at a resort; it's the little special touches like that on top of great attention to cleaning detail that make them outstanding. They were also able to get a water stain out of the refrigerator water/ice door that we haven't been able to get rid of in 10 years! Stuart, the owner, was also a pleasure to deal with. I second the concern about not picking things up, but let me back up first. We hired Castle Cleaning a while ago to do routine cleaning for us, and the service slowly degraded over time. Every time they came out I had to tell them the same basic things, like emptying the master trash and both garbages in the kitchen. They routinely moved things and didn't put them even remotely close to where they were (decorative items like pictures or candles). Tita regularly asked inappropriate and personal questions, and spent time chit chatting rather than cleaning. They had no concept of how invasive they were; they took over our large kitchen whenever they came in and had trouble grasping appropriate behavior around my husband who works from home. I had to chase them down to get them to clean his office when he had a window when he could step out, they would interrupt him while he was on the phone with the door closed and they banged on the office door with the vacuum. We had an issue where they changed the schedule without notifying us, and another issue where we asked them to clean after we had work done while we were on vacation and since they saw my painter's truck in the driveway they turned around and left rather than cleaning (without communicating at all with anyone--this was Victoria and Stuart apparently was also on vacation and knew nothing about what happened). We were not happy to come home to a dust-covered house when we had arranged to have it cleaned. Not too long ago, they left the house without putting back rugs, completely missed my coffee table, skipped the cabinet doors, and didn't dust several pieces of furniture and my fireplace mantle. My coffee table was a significant problem. That morning, my preschooler drew on it with bright blue washable marker. It easily comes off with a quick wipe, but if you let it sit it sinks into the vein of the marble. The marker was still there when I got there in the evening! Since it wasn't promptly cleaned, it sunk into the vein of the marble surface and became very difficult to remove. Stuart's solution was to steam clean it! Anyone who knows anything about cleaning marble would laugh at that solution, it is nonsense. Anyhow, Stuart's team came back out to re-clean the following day. When I explained that I really shouldn't be needing to supervise and check everything after the cleaning crew had been cleaning for me for so long, Tita said "me neither." Really? So as the on-site supervisor, she shouldn't have to check their work to make sure that there is no magic marker on the coffee table, rugs are put back and things are dusted? These SUPER OBVIOUS basics would be apparent to anyone with their eyes open. When I talked with Stuart about these issues, I also asked that he send one lady into my garage on occasion to hit the cobwebs that were developing in the corners. He wanted to charge me the hourly rate for 1/4 hr to do this. The hourly rate that pays for 4 people! So in essence he wanted me to pay for 1 man hour to take a duster and hit the corners of my garage, which should have taken all of 2 minutes. I told him we could trade the time spent with inappropriate chatting for the 2 minutes to clean the cobwebs, and if he needed to bill me I would need to bill him for the time I spent supervising his crew since that apparently was not the supervisor's job. I probably should have just fired them at this point, but I was 8.5 months pregnant and didn't want to deal with hiring a new cleaning crew at the time. Fast forward a few weeks and my baby was born. They showed up half an hour early while my husband was trying to feed our preschooler and get him out the door when they (as they always do) invaded our kitchen. Apparently my preschooler had dumped out his bin of stuffed animals in the playroom, which they refused to clean without us picking it up first. So, in the midst of the chaos, with a brand new baby in the house, my husband had to stop what he was doing to go pick up the stuffed animals because Tita didn't want to. My husband had enough at that point and decided that would be our last cleaning with them. Stewart was very understanding that the situation was not good, and said that he would send over a different crew ***but had to charge us more*** if we wanted to continue service. No thank you, I do not need to pay extra for mediocre service that requires my supervision to adequately complete. I gave Castle Cleaning 2 stars because they never stole anything and only broke one thing (and they left a nice note when they did). P.S. our new cleaning service does a better job, gets the house cleaned faster, with fewer people, with a better attitude, and for less money. And they manage to do all this without disturbing my husband while he is working. read more

I've used Castle Cleaning twice now and I can't say enough good things about them. The first time I used them was early last month right before my son's first birthday. We had a large party planned and given that we have a baby, both work full-time, AND had a 3-month old puppy to deal with, our house was a mess and we had no time to do a real clean. I found Castle on Thumbtack and spoke to Stuart to setup our first appointment: a one-time deep clean. The crew showed up a bit early, which worked out fine, was very courteous, and went straight to work. Stuart was very clear that the price quoted was for two hours and any time over would be charged per quarter hour. I think the crew of four went about 2.5 hours total. The house was SPOTLESS! Seriously it had been a while since the place had a good clean and these ladies worked some serious magic. The second time I used them was today. I was told that since it was a second job I would be charged a flat rate. Once again, the crew showed up on time and worked about 2.5 hours. I was a little confused when I was charged for a full three hours and not given the discounted rate I was told, but knew the girl collecting was not the person to address the issue with so I just paid it. After doing a walk through of the home I was disappointed that the job wasn't quite as good as the last time. I spoke to Stuart, the owner, and he said that particular supervisor was new. He told me that not only would he send the crew back out on Monday because he likes to use these instances as learning experiences, but that he would send back the check I wrote. I was actually looking on Thumbtack for a new cleaning service to do a monthly service at our home, but after speaking with Stuart I'm going straight back to Castle. The crews are absolutely kind, courteous, and professional and Stuart knows how to take care of a customer. I highly recommend using Castle Cleaners! I hired Castle Cleaners via ThumbTack.com and during the initial contact I was very explicit that due to a broken leg, I had not straightened the house for a couple of weeks and that it was my expectation that the cleaning crew would pickup & straighten up my apartment as part of their cleaning gig. Furthermore, I told them that I had just purchased a new Dyson animal vacuum cleaner and I wanted them to use my Dyson rather than the "cheap" vacuums that most cleaning companies use. When the crew showed up this morning (vacuum cleaners in tow), I was promptly told by Victoria (team lead) that they do not pickup or move items; but rather that they only clean when they do not have to move anything. When I explained that I had explicitly emailed Stephanie via Thumbtack that my house needed to be picked up & straightened as part of the cleaning service; Victoria's response was "well she's new and she doesn't understand our process. Had you talked to Stuart (owner), he never let's us pickup or move anything during the cleaning process". Apparently, they've had complaints in the past when things got moved and misplaced. I totally understand that policies were made to prevent customers from getting upset when things were moved/misplaced. However, since I was extremely clear in my initial contact that I expected that the cleaners would pickup things that I couldn't due to my broken leg .. needless to say, I was less than satisfied. Maybe Castle should have read my email more carefully or followed up with some questions for me before booking the gig and setting my expectations. I can't speak to the quality of their cleaning job ... because they didn't clean anything. Also, I think it is a bit excessive to send in 4 cleaners to a 1,000 SQ FT apartment. My previous cleaners always sent in 2 people which was plenty and they always straightened up & asked me questions if they weren't sure if they should move something. I have been using Castle Cleaning for years. It all started when my grandmother wanted to get us a gift when our first child was born. Having the house cleaned was a luxury we desperately needed. They came in and cleaned our place incredibly well. We were so excited about the service that we decided to have them back in 30 days. The next time they came by it was easier to clean since they'd scraped it down to original the last time. Still, the difference after they were done was amazing. It's almost impossible to describe the way a house looks after such a thorough cleaning. Even if you only do it once it will be worth it. We had Castle Cleaning to our house every month for about six months when we decided to have them clean every two weeks. Our house stayed so clean all the time. One thing about having a cleaning service is that you have to straighten up before they get there so they can get it all done. As a result our tendency to be a little messy was practically eliminated and it was like we had a model home all the time. You know, I've cleaned my fingers to the bone before. I've gotten down on my hands and knees to get things extra clean. But I can only do one room like that before I'm done with it. Even so the room looks great and I feel a small sense of happiness that it's done. Imagine that feeling with your whole house. It's wonderful. Now I'm not going to fool you and say that every time a cleaning crew showed up, rainbows shot from every window, the baseboards gleamed like diamonds, and my life changed every time my house was cleaned. With any long-term relationship there will be times when things aren't done right. What makes this a five-star review is how Stuart and his crews handled adversity. Any time there was an issue, Stuart helped make it right. If I had to reschedule a cleaning at the last second, Stuart would take care of it without any hint of complaint. His crew leaders were very patient and accommodating when I pointed out things that weren't cleaned the way I expected. Even if I was demanding and possibly unreasonable (although I think I'm a pretty swell guy), they handled it with professionalism. After a couple years with Castle we decided to hire a house manager to take care of cleaning (among many other things). We did that for a couple of years, then we put our house on the market and needed one last super-cleaning. I called Stuart out of the blue and remembered me. He sent our old crew out to the house and the crew leader (Letty) remembered us well. She asked about the kids, how things were going, and remembered all the quirks of the house. Of course the house was amazing after they were done. We got two offers on our house over full price before it even went on the market. I recently used Castle Cleaning and it was my first time using a maid service of any kind. I was utterly and completely impressed! Right on time a team of 4 women came into the house with armloads of cleaning tools and supplies and dispersed immediately to different areas of the house. When you pay by the hour, speed is a concern but what's the point if it's not done well! While 3 of them packed up the car, the 4th woman mopped her way out and asked me to inspect. If you are looking for an after-renovation cleaning (or really just a good job), this is not who you should hire. I called a week ago to schedule this, and spoke to Stuart, the owner, who was polite and professional. I can't say the same about his crew. Three women arrived, arms crossed and frowning, and either seemingly bewildered by the task or just hating their jobs. They asked me what I wanted done... This was an empty, recently renovated 1800 sq ft home... it was pretty obvious. It needed a thorough move in cleaning, and some detailing, because after you renovate, dust gets EVERYWHERE. I was specifically in the market for an after renovation cleaning-- to me this means dust the vents, dust the floor trim, etc. Then they said they were going to lunch... Like literally right after they arrived. I had no idea what their day was like, so I said "no problem" even though my movers were coming a few hours later. I assumed that grabbing lunch meant 20-30 minutes. They came back an hour later. I let them do their thing. 3 women seemed like overkill. It seemed really that 2 would work and one would look at her phone. They told me they wouldn't do the blinds because it would take too much time.... but I didn't hire them for a set time, and I was told they'd just do the job and it cold take 3 hours, which was totally fine by me. Money wasn't an issue for me in this instance. I set aside up to $500 in my budget to hire professionals... I just wanted a clean home to move into. I'm pregnant and not really able to do it myself. They "finished" and asked me to look around. I went to the first room they told me they vacuumed, but there was debris and a giant bug right at the entrance. I asked them if they vaccumed, and they said "yes"... It was hilarious. Then it dawned on me that I never even heard a vaccum. THEY ONLY BROUGH A BROOM TO AN "AFTER-RENOVATION CLEANING." Then they told me they mopped my new tiled black floors 3x and they couldn't get all the white dust in the cracks, and it would require multiple mopping sessions. Of course they couldn't get it clean... they didnt vacuum first.... they just pushed around the white dust with their mop. Again, they didn't bring a vacuum. Unreal. I didn't look at my phone, but I assumed it had been 2 hours, because, how could it have been any shorter? The captain said "yes." I paid her $180 and said "thanks"... there was really no use in getting into things with three women who just didn't have it in them. They then went to their car, and I stayed parked there for quite a while. I assume to eat up that time and justify it to their supervisor, since they were paid for it. Luckily I looked at my phone and realized it had been about AN HOUR. They were not only lazy, but dishonest, too. They had gotten back from their lunch at 2:20... then I walked over to them in their car at 3:20... so they probably actually finished sometime around 3pm (worked for less than an hour), yet she insisted it had been and hour and 20 minutes of cleaning. I have NO interest in dealing with petty stuff like this, so I left it at that, but really they worked for under an hour. I really didn't care about time spent or money, I just wanted a great job... unfortunately I didn't get it. All I can say they did was basically just did a shoddy mop job, and a basic bathroom clean. Seriously, that's it. There was drywall dust in all the corners, on all the trim. They didn't even clean the windows! Even a regular cleaning person does that. The captain really left a bad taste in my mouth. The other women just seemed nice and followed her lead. The owner seems like a nice person trying to run a business. They just need to hire MUCH better. Please do yourself a favor and don't hire them if you need a good job. read more

Castle Cleaning just did a move-out clean on our rental house. They were right on time and got the job done quickly. What they did well: The bathrooms are immaculate, even the toilets. The floors are in terrific shape. They remembered to clean inside all the drawers and cabinets, which I might have forgotten had I done it myself. I'm embarrassed to admit when the window blinds were last dusted, but they look great now. The kitchen appliances are perfect, and the fridge practically shines. We're amazed they could get the kitchen that clean! A few things they missed: The tops of the doors and tops of the door frames were still caked with dust. The ceiling fans and light fixtures were dusted with a feather duster, but we still had plenty of accumulated grimy dust to wipe off. They didn't open the windows to wipe the gunk out of the window frames, which took us some time to do after they left. I'd give Castle Cleaning a solid B+. We would call them again, though next time we'd probably go into a little more detail about everything that needs doing from the outset. We purchased a home, which the previous tenants left filthy. I called Castle Cleaning, and Stuart convinced me they were the right people for the job. I mentioned special requests to have all walls wiped down and was told it wouldn't be a problem. The cleaning crew called 30 minutes prior to appointment to confirm. A crew of 4 ladies showed up and got to work. They were cheerful and pleasant even though the rain kept me from taking the kids outside. There was a misunderstanding about the walls, but I called Stuart again, and he explained what needed to be done to the crew. I didn't mind paying for extra time to complete the job, but felt the estimate could have been more accurate since it took them over double the time quoted over the phone. Their hourly rate is very reasonable, and I feel the quality of work is far superior to companies I have used in the past. The crew worked hard without slacking. They even cleaned the refrigerator interior and washed the blinds. The crew leader asked me to check their work upon finishing. The house was spotless! I called Castle Cleaning after reading the reviews and had a great conversation with Stuart, the owner. This was my first professional cleaning, so I was a bit lacking on what to ask, research and so forth. Stuart put my mind at ease and we scheduled my cleaning appointment at noon on a Tuesday. The price seemed fair and he said the cleaning team would call 30 minutes before they arrived. They called at 8:30 on Tuesday and unfortunately I was unable to answer. I guess early is better than late, however I scheduled the originally appointed time because I wasn't available until then. Luckily I had someone at my house (that is never the case, it was just an unusual incident) and they let the team in. I arrived about 20 minutes later, after rearranging my schedule. They cleaned for about 2 hours, and asked me to check their work when they finished. I have to say, I was disappointed. It was clean, yes, ok, however it was a 'bare minimum' clean. There were quite a few places I asked them to redo (or clean for the first time, I don't know) and the team leader noticed and agreed with me when I pointed them out. The other team members seemed put upon. The rest of the house was just okay, however I was expecting sparkling. The baseboards and window sills looked like they had just been wiped with a dry cloth, without any type of cleaning solution. The wood floors looked dull and there still seemed to be a thin layer of dust over flat surfaces. To their credit, they were able to get some stubborn stains out of one of my guest bathroom toilets that had been there since I purchased the house.
