On our way to buy tomatoes, we have passed Cassie's Cafe in Hazel Green and wondered if the food was good. We decided to stop by and give it a try. The restaurant is located in an old strip mall. The parking lot was full with one more space to park. When we walked in, all the tables were full with two needing to be cleaned. This was a good and bad sign. Food must be good and staff is overloaded with work. We saw ladies moving at breakneck speeds bringing food to tables and cleaning. The interior is modestly decorated and clean. Not knowing if we should wait for a table to be cleaned or go to the counter, we went to the counter. The nice lady there smiled, welcomed us and asked if we wanted a to go order. We told her we would dine there and she said go get a table and we'll wait on you. Hubs got a table while she explained the lunch special to me. Lunch special options were fried catfish, grilled ham and roast beef with gravy. They were out of the roast beef and gravy, stewed potatoes and field peas and snaps. Other vegetables were pinto beans, collard greens, green beans, slaw, potato salad, macaroni salad, white corn and diced peaches. The lunch special was a meat, 3 veggies, dessert and a drink. Dessert was out so we were given a choice of another vegetable or diced peaches. Both of us got 4 vegetables. Our foods were delivered to our table and they were excellent. There was so much food we weren't able to make a huge dent so we asked for to go boxes. Lunch specials on Sunday are $11. Awesome foods for a fair price. The fried catfish according to my husband was delicious and perfectly cooked. The collard greens they serve are the best we have had in north Alabama. We were very pleased with our lunch and will go back to try other foods. Hubs got a cheeseburger and fries to go. Both were delicious!!! Very good waitstaff (quick and efficient)and eggs were cooked perfectly. Unfortunately they had artificial spread for butter and when asked for real butter, this is what I was given (see photo). Best breakfast in Hazel Green/ Meridianville area! A nice variety of breakfast items such as delicious French Toast, Oatmeal with selection of toppings, omelets are great, eggs fried to perfection, biscuits and gravy, loaded cheese fries/ hash browns, breakfast sandwiches, etc... My only minor complaint might be that my hash browns are not always cooked thin and crispy enough for me. My family makes Cassie's our weekly Sat. morning breakfast place. WOW!!! So let's see, first we arrive at closing because we got the time wrong. They still served us. I ordered the chef salad and.. I can't say enough great things about it, the bacon and ham was freshly cooked and hot. That's right HOT, I've never had that on a salad before, my friend had the special, it was hamburger steak, I got a bite and it was so tender and moist, wonderful flavor. He got a cake with his. Stopped in for breakfast this morning, waitress asked if we wanted "the buffet" ? We went to check it out, honestly, didn't look very appealing to us, so we ordered off the menu. I went with the French Toast with a side of sausage, my fiancee ordered a bacon, egg & cheese biscuit with a side of hash browns. My French Toast was very good, sausage was of the Jimmy Dean variety. My fiancee's breakfast sandwich was OK, but she felt the hash browns were UNDERCOOKED (as opposed to another reviewer who felt his hash browns were burnt). Anyway, not sure if we'd ever drop it again, I'll be honest, the place had a very dumpy appearance. The front windows really require a good washing, and the decor (old chairs, our table wobbled also) needs a serious upgrade. But for the prices they charge, I imagine that isn't going to happen, can't recall the last time I only paid 10 bucks for both of us for a sit-down breakfast. We tried the lunch special at the Winchester Rd location. The food was mediocre, as expected. Frozen country fried steak dropped into the fryer. The gravy was powdered and the potatoes were runny. Same ambiance as when it was Cafe 302... Loud and cold with hard bench seating. But, the service was great! They were helpful, attentive, and made you feel welcome. We've eaten here so many times that it pains me to see a review that is low. If somebody got burned greasy hashbrowns, and didn't say something about it to the server, then they didn't do it right. The folks that own and run this place are nice, personable, approchable, and happy to be here. They aim to please. If you are expecting a fine dining experience, then this is not the experience you are looking for. Those druids are found elsewhere. If you are looking for some down home country cooking, made to order or on the lunch buffet (breakfast buffet on weekends), then this is the stop for you. I've only had to send something back once, and the Cassie's Cafe folks made a new order, and did it without complaint. Hamburgers, fries, patty melts, meatloaf, mashed potatoes, simple salad bar, sweet and in sweet tea, and more. And it's all good. That, combined with a genuinely nice attitude and feel, makes Cassie's for our kind of place to eat. The decor is simple, as in really simple. Don't let that throw ya. Pleasantly surprised! We came in for breakfast this morning to try a local gem. I had the 2 egg breakfast with gravy and bologna, hubby had the pancake breakfast. We were very excited....we sent nothing back to the kitchen it was just the way we ordered it. The gravy was real tasty, smooth and not too thick. Bacon was nice and crispy with a great hickory flavor. The fried bologna was sliced thick and perfectly cooked. The pancakes are a touch heavy for my personal taste but they had a good griddle flavor. We will definitely return. read more

I wanted to meet a guy from Toney/Harvest area for breakfast. I live near Three Forks of Flint. Yelp users were right, Cassie's didn't fail. "Over easy" is often overdone, but not here. Probably the biggest country ham breakfast I have ever eaten. The country ham was thick enough to have been its own ham steak dinner. And it was so refreshing to have scrambled eggs that were made from real eggs. Great food, highly recommended read more
