As a member of an HOA Board our property management company recommended Cass Plumbing. Since we had bad experiences with another local plumbing company in the past we decided to try Cass Plumbing. Jeff, Eric and Kevin were thorough and diligent at replacing three of our broken and leaking outdoor spigots. Two of spigots were not threaded, but welded on, and all three spigots were different sizes. Being that this is in Hillcrest, Eric was great about ordering spigots that "lock" to prevent the homeless from continuing to use our spigots. Jeff was knowledgeable and very experienced at removing and soldering on the new spigots and replacing the cracked water line to the other one, and Kevin (who was an apprentice) was great about assisting them and learning the trade. read more

I will never use your company again. I feel the treatment I received was subpar. The only person I interacted with that seemed worth his salt was the man who came out the first time then on the last day to finish the job. I understand the plumbing was old and the parts hard to find. I understand that the replacement of the 'shoe' from the tub drain needed two people, one in the house and one in the crawl space. However, I was told on the day when the two workers were to be there, that they would be there at a certain time period. They ran late. I understand that. However, I was told they needed only 1 hour of overtime ($186/hour) to fix and finish the job. I approved ONE extra hour figuring it would solve the problem and get a working shower for the renter. It turned out to be 1.25 hours and did not fix or finish the job. The faucet still leaked like it did before they started. They had fixed the leaking drain pipe under the house but not the valves leaking above. I was told parts had to be ordered. I understand finding older parts is hard. However, I repeatedly called the office to find out the status of the parts being located. I was told over and over, that the supervisor was out and would call me. I called after waiting at least an hour. I was told the supervisor was in a meeting and would call me. No call again. i called again and was told he would call back. A fourth call near the end of the day had me ask again to be called to find out the status of the ordered parts so i could schedule a work time for the repair and inform the renter. Since the house is a one bathroom, the renters could not use the shower and the faucet continued to drip all week end long. Monday has me call again and again with no call back. Finally I called and was told the parts were coming in. I scheduled a work time on Tuesday. The work time was cancelled due to a lack of workers coming in. I found this out after I changed my schedule to be there while the work was being done and the renter arranged a friend to be present in the house to supervise the renter's son while workers were present. I wasted an entire day. The excuse was workers did not come into work. I had to call to find this out while I was waiting for the workers to arrive. The workers were to come the next day. The workers were late due to a previous job taking longer than expected. The job at my rental was not able to be completed as I was told the valves were so old they were pitted and even with the new parts still leaked. The diverter to the shower could not be removed so that part could not be repaired. By this time, i was totally disgusted with the amount of time and money I had wasted to basically do nothing more than fix the drain under the tub while the top still leaked and the shower could not be used.  The diverter valve handle was broken off by the employee and left that way. i was told he could not get the new hardware in for that valve, that it could be turn with pliers but still leaked and squirted water inside the wall. it was the best he could do. I felt I should not have to pay for the parts that were not used. I should not have to pay for the time to replace parts that continued to leak after being replaced. I should not have to pay for time that did not solve the problem. I spent over $1000 dollars to basically get a dripping piple under the house changed from galvanized pipe (from 1942) to ABS pipe. That was done nicely but needed both a plumber and helper to do and took 2 hours of time. I should have been told the valves would have to be totally replaced and had it done. I ended up hiring a different company that came in to do what should have been done in the first place. They finished the entire job, including putting the access panel back up in less than 3 hours. The renters could not use the shower while waiting (almost a week) for the problem to be fixed. They kept asking when the problem would be fixed so they could shower. The mom had to make arrangements to have a friend come over to supervise her son on days that the work scheduled did not take place. I wasted time by showing up only to have no worker show up or show up hours late. I did not received promised phone calls. So, in summary, the service I received was not satisfactory. The only part done to my satisfaction was to replace the shoe/drain under the tub. I understand old plumbing wears out. What was so upsetting (besides the amount of wasted money) was not receiving the promise phone calls, having workers NOT show up at all after both the renter and myself had made arrangements to be there or have a friend watch her son. I understand running late, but not totally missing an appointment and not having the office call to inform me ASAP is totally unacceptable. I was referred to this company by another company that was too busy to make it when I called at the start of this problem. read more

The glory of renting a house is that you don't have to pay for repairs, but it also means that you're at the mercy of whomever your landlord sends out to fix stuff. Our toilet suddenly started dripping all over the floor, so I called our landlord, who got me in touch with Cass Plumbing. He's used them for years and said they would be able to get things done asap. The lady I talked to at the office was incredibly nice and helpful. She put me on hold to call one of her guys out in the field to get a time estimate, and she was able to get him to my house in less than half an hour. Juan, the plumber, was prompt, professional, and fixed the leak quickly. I expected that having to get a plumber out here would be a huge hassle, but this was cake. I called Cass because they are my HOA's "preferred plumber." I had an HVAC line that was not draining. ASI, my A/C installer, cleared out the line in the A/C unit itself but did not want to snake common line. Enter Cass, our "preferred plumber." Matt at Cass refused to do the work because he feared he would compromise the common area drain line. Cass did nothing whatsoever but is charging me a $147.50 trip charge. Mike at Cass Plumbing called us as a follow up from our regular plumber. They dug up and replaced a portion of our sewer line. It was a job that became larger than we had expected. We found a larger problem once the pipe was excavated. Mike came out on a Saturday to review and discuss our options. The work was done with excellence by Eduardo and Gabe. They cleaned up and returned the landscaping to the way they found it. The bill came exactly as quoted with no surprises. They were always there when they were scheduled and everyone was friendly and courteous. The price was very fair. I will recommend them to anyone for jobs large and small. My property management selected cass plumbing for a slab leak. First they sent a plumber to check the problem but soon to find out that the management company misinformed them of the problem and a leak detection was needed. The leak detection person showed up and was totally professional and helpful, at this point I was impressed with the company. Soon the company contacted us to schedule a repair, unfortunately they did not specify their scope of work for this visit. Part of the fault lies with the property management but being my plumbing contractor has been in business since 1948 I hold them accountable, by the way I am a general contractor with 5 different classes on my license, mainly in roofing, so I am familiar with protocols expected with companies. Especially with safety for your client. The technician that showed was a nice young man but failed to set up the proper precaution. Since the scope of work was not explained we did not prepare for the situation. My wife had 10-15 mins to get of situation in order in terms of draping and moving our furniture. He did not even help my wife move or drape anything. Usually in my business as a roofer if my client does not move anything I have to move it for them and take responsibility if it is damaged. I also during a roof tear off have to clean every day of the job and not leave debris. They did nothing of this nature. They could have even isolated the situation by taping plastic in the door way confining they mess to one room only. The worker pull my carpet back and started to jack hammer the slab. Prior to this my wife asked the man if she needed to do anything and he said "its all good" and to take pictures down and it was not a big deal. This man dusted my living room and kitchen with concrete dust all over. By this time it was too late. Concrete and mortar contain silica, and is proven to be extremely unhealthy to breath. Being a roofer I am familiar with breathing unhealthy things in my career, and even though It wont kill us I did not feel comfortable with my 3 year old daughter breathing this. I called my management company and cass plumbing and spoke with their supervisor. I told them I was a contractor also, and I was disappointed with this. He apologized, but it was too late at this point. I was upset at both parties, but being in the same business although I am not a plumber there are certain things you have to do to prevent situations like this and having an upset customer. Being that I still rent and I was not the direct customer I feel that I was treated like a second class citizen. When I work for a client with tenants I treat them with the same respect as the actual client that is paying me. The negligence that was displayed was repulsive. As much as I tried in my head to ignore it, I just could not. I have spoken to other tradesman and contractors I know, and they feel the same and could not believe me when I told them. I will be contacting the Contractors Board over this Matter. I don't know where osha fits in but they should be notified also. I never feel compelled to complain to this extent but I am upset. People like us are held to a high standard to act like seasoned professionals. To say I have never had problems in my years as a contractor I would be lying, life if full of learning experiences and I have my fare share. The tech was a nice young man, I feel that his repair was good, and he was also fast at it. He just failed to take the steps to take care of the customer, and also to prevent his employer from looking bad in front of one of their peers. I will take this as a mistake given the high rating this company has. Hopefully this review will help the company tighten up any loose ends on their behalf. We had to stay in a hotel that evening as a result of this matter. I also contacted my property manager and they had a cleaning lady come. In my eyes they tried to make good on this situation by at least trying. My first experience with Cass was when I had a flood in my front bedroom. They came out quickly, determined the leak was from under the ground and instead of turning it into a huge project by breaking concrete they suggested running a new copper line. Not only was this a great solution they came in under budget. When does that happen? Yea! Jose! He did such a great job very quickly and professionally. Next experience was after a faulty ice maker line installation by Aztec (see my review). My bed (floor below the kitchen) was drenched and there was no evidence that it was coming from the fridge. Called Cass and Jose came to the rescue again. Since it was such a slow but constant drip on wood flooring it was unnoticeable - except to Jose. Well long story short he stayed until the guys from Aztec showed up but is not going to be coming out to reinstall the line - and fix the drains under the sink that got knocked around and loosened by the painter no less. we've been having this sewage smell problem for weeks and finally we called the management of our building and they gave a number to call. We called CASS Plumbing and scheduled an appointment and it was Jeremy who answered and took the appointment. I was a bit upset coz of that stinky smell but he was nice and polite and did not reply with attitude (thank you). He came to fix the problem. He explained well where the problem is coming from and did what he can do to solve it. Before he left he explained well that there is something that should be done to solve the problem and he will discuss to our building management. I was told that it is not 100% guarantee that the smell will not come back. After almost 2 weeks we had to call them to check the stinky sewage problem again, and Oscar was sent to check the sink or pipes where the problem is coming from. And he also check the pipes on the roof to make sure the smell isn't coming from other pipes. And I was told also that what they can do is just temporary because unfortunately the building management does not want to spend money to solve this stinky sewage smell problem. (Nice that they will bill our building management and not us) It is pleasant to speak with them and to schedule appointment, discuss the problem, they listen and they are very professional. Our bathroom sink was stopped up. We thought it was from the roots entering the pipes like it had done before. I had called Cass Plumbing and was told the person would be there the next morning to provide an estimate. I took the day off so I would be home. Next day no one showed up. I called Cass Plumbing and was told the plumber was given the message. They could not tell me when he would arrive. I had received a coupon in the mail the day before from Mr. Rooter. Tired of waiting for Cass Plumbing to show-up, I picked up the phone and called Mr. Rooter. Noe, from Mr. Rooter was at my home in less that two hours. He gave me a couple repair options. I highly recommend Cass Plumbing, and especially their plumber Mike. When my water heater failed, I called multiple companies for quotes on replacing my old gas water heater with a new tankless electric model. One of the companies definitely tried to take advantage of my lack of hot water with an almost laughably high quote for the work. Cass Plumbing, on the other hand, gave me a reasonable estimate, and was able to schedule a rapid, next-day replacement. Mike's service was incredible; he not only installed the new unit, but also talked me through how to perform the annual maintenance to remove lime deposits. As part of the work, I had also asked him to install a water pressure regulator for my home, and he not only performed the installation, but also found and printed a rebate form from the city of San Diego to save me money on the part. What can I say about Cass Plumbing? I've owned the same home for 38 years. Since 1978 I have used this company and only wandered to a different company once and what a mistake. I take the blame, it was for my second story remodel in 1978. The contractor I used saved me money by plumbing PVC instead of cast iron from the the vertical drop from the upstairs to the first story. Every time someone flushes the toilet upstairs I hear it in my living room while watching television. My fault!!! I was lured into the cheapest price. Only once in 38 years I had to call call Cass plumbing for warranty work and they took care of the problem the next day with no charge. They are the most professional company in San Diego. I could not be more pleased with the guys from Cass Plumbing. Jeremey, Jameson and Mike the manager (39 years experience) did an outstanding job. It was not not not easy to fix the bath tub drain in my 1950s house with a concrete slab foundation. The cast iron drains are notorious for becoming uncleanably clogged after well over half a century. What do you expect for centuries old technology? It was time to replace the drain. Instead of 3-4 days quoted by others who wanted to jack hammer or cut a hole in the outside wall, Cass found a way from the other bathroom. They did it in under a day total. Mind you they did it for a third what I was quoted by one of these Mega Rooter companies. The guys at Cass are straight forward and honest. I do not feel like I got bent over. I got a good job for a fair price in a short time. I am a happy customer. These are the kind of tradespeople you want to know. read more

Do not use this company! I just want to share an unpleasant experience with Cass Plumbing and Heating. I had occasion to call a plumbing outfit to fix a shower fixture that no longer controlled the temperature of the water. Derek was sent out by Cass Plumbing and Heating after my call. I met him at the gate to our 315 unit condo complex. As we walked to my unit, I mentioned that I usually meet workmen at the gate because finding my unit is a bit challenging. His response (can't make this up) was, "I hate working in this complex." I should've just sent him on his way at that point, but figured he was young and maybe didn't realize the finer points of customer service. He opened the walk in shower wall and found the "cartridge" inside, which he described as no longer viable, filled with sediment. He called someone for a new part. He informed me that the part was costing Cass $245 and he "didn't know" what Cass would be charging me for it when it was installed the next week. We agreed on a return date (Monday) for the cartridge to be installed. I called Cass on Monday to secure the time when a plumber would arrive. I was told that Derek was off that day, but Mike was available. Mike came later that day. He installed the cartridge and the water controls worked well. Later in the day, I went in to the shower and noticed flakes of the natural stone on the floor of the shower. Looking around the "cartridge" covering, I saw several spots where a tool must've scraped the stonework. I picked up the flakes and wrapped them in a tissue. Unfortunately, my cleaning lady tossed the tissue out, since it appeared to be trash on the vanity. I called Cass and told them about the problem during a conversation I had with them over the price of the cartridge that they were charging me ($382.43) for the part which cost them $245. I spoke with a lady who asked for me to send pics of the chips in the stonework. I did that and they are attached to this email. She also let me know that Cass was "discounting" my bill by $39.25 due to the apparent overcharge on the "cartridge." Eventually, after calling again a week later, Jeremy (owner or manager) sent me an email essentially saying that neither Derek or Mike used anything other than a screwdriver (wow, that screwdriver Mike used sure made some racket) and both men said there is no way they caused any damages. Case closed in his mind. I replied to his email, suggesting that asking the employees about the damage is probably the least efficient way to get the truth (Mike was the plumber who did the work when the chips were caused) and that I would be bringing this to the HOA. Pretty remarkable to me that, as a recommended vendor for a complex of 315 units, no offer to visually inspect the shower was made. I now have to call a grout repair company to reseal the areas that are now subject to water absorption (no doubt will be at least $100) and still owe Cass a total of $578.03 read more

What a pleasant experience! Jeremy returned my email inquiry promptly and was upfront about all of the pricing. He offered a plumber to come the next day between 12 - 2pm. Mike showed up early (around 11:30) which was fantastic. He was courteous, fast and thorough. He installed the new part and explained his repairs to me. In the past our office has used another big-name plumbing company with the initials BH ;) and had some unpleasant experiences with both pricing and service. We've used your company three or four times in about ten years. Repiping a 100 year old house was the reason for this letter. We were very impressed with the work ethic of your team: they were all professional, friendly and polite. "Larry" did a particularly outstanding job and we felt very comfortable having him in our home. He is an efficient, fast worker; he explained and discussed his work with us. My husband and I have hired many people (I was an office manager for 34 years), and think he is a great representative of your company. As testimony to Larry's work, the San Diego city inspector told us our plumber did a good job. We had a sink in our rental unit that was clogged and one plumber came and couldn't clear it. He also left a big mess. He was also quite rude and negative about the job. Needless to say, we let Cass Plumbing know about it and they apologized and sent a more experienced person the next day. I give a 5 star rating for Jose'! He unclogged the drain and patiently explained to me what had happened (eggshells should not go in the disposal) He kindly pointed out a few things that should also be looked at (a water heater air pipe that was cracked) but didn't put any pressure on or make me feel ignorant. Because of the patience, knowledge and kindness of Jose', I would recommend Cass Plumbing and Heating.
