We live in a condo with an indoor water heater. We had a water heater flood in 2016, so we had replaced the old 40-gallon water heater with another one. But it was coming up on the 10 year mark and we were concerned about another flood so we were looking into tankless water heaters. We called several companies. The first one came out and said installing tankless in our condo would be tricky and super expensive. The second guy came out and said it wasn't that tricky and wouldn't be super expensive, but he only had 3 reviews on Yelp, so we weren't confident in his assessment. The third company said the cost for tankless would be 3 to 4 times more than a regular water heater. So, by the time I talked to Miguel at Rapid Water Heater, I was confused and assumed a regular water heater was our only option so I didn't even mention wanting tankless and made an appt for them to install a regular water heater. When Miguel came out to install it, we were chatting and I mentioned we had originally wanted to go tankless. So he had his employee George (the water heater "wizard") come out to tell us if tankless was doable. George is extremely knowledgeable. He's been installing tankless water heaters for years and knows everything there is to know about code compliance and how the Navien tankless units work. He said it would be no problem to install one in our condo. He made us feel completely confident about going takless. And because their price was only twice the price of a regular water heater, we made an appt to have it installed the next day. It took George 6 hours to install the tankess unit. Not only did he explain everything he was doing, but he was very friendly and did meticulous work. We're so happy that we were able to go tankless since that's what we originally wanted. Our new unit looks and works great! The great thing is that Rapid Water Heater includes the necessary annual scale flushing for free for the life of the tankless unit. Plus, with the extra warranty, they cover 100% parts and labor for 15 years, so if the unit doesn't work right, we're covered. I can't say enough about Miguel and his company. I normally don't write reviews -- this is actually my first one -- but the caliber of his service I received deserves to be recognized. Miguel consistently went above and beyond. His customer service, honesty, willingness to go the extra mile (even at his own expense), and the quality of his workmanship were truly exceptional. It's evident he approaches his work with great care, knowledge, and meticulous attention to detail and thoroughness. He was transparent from start to finish, explaining everything he was doing along the way. He flushed my system as part of diagnosing the issue and told me he wouldn't charge me for it. He also verified the system multiple times to ensure the hot water was functioning properly and even corrected our home's excessively high water pressure (which I don't think is standard in a tankless water heater repair). He worked on our Rinnai gas tankless water heater for about 4-5 hours, diagnosing what turned out to be a previously improperly installed unit with serious safety hazards. At one point, the unit actually caught on fire while he was working on it and nearly burned his face. Thankfully, he was unharmed. And unbelievably, after recovering and despite the risk involved, he continued working to ensure that our system was as safe as could be and that our family had hot water. This kind of dedication is unheard of. Another reason that truly sets Miguel apart is his integrity. After all the time he invested, along with flushing the unit and navigating a dangerous situation, he declined any payment. Even after I insisted, he refused the compensation. Later, after leaving, he even called to ensure I understood how he programmed the recirculating pump and offered to return to adjust it once I knew how much more I could trim the amount of time our family needed it on, in order to prolong the life of the unit. Reached out to a few companies due to my water heater having an increasingly bad leak while being out of warranty. Initially was just looking to get a new water heater but after letting Miguel know what was up, he came out to check on my drain valve due to my water heater being just over 6 years old. Miguel dropped by fairly quickly after completing another job and confirmed his suspicions of the drain valve being the issue. I chose Rapid Water Heater based on their 5.0 review status. That is almost impossible to get these days. They did not disappoint! Our tankless water heater was shutting off too soon, after about 3 minutes in the shower. First off, I called in the morning and got an appointment on the same day at 12pm. Very impressive. They sent a technician named George who was very knowledgable! He trouble shot our system very well. We did a descaling maintenance routine. We did have some build up in the system that could have harmed our system over time. This is now serviced. That did not eliminate our problem. George tested all of our lines and we isolated the problem at the shower head. Our shower head has really low flow, probably a California water savings thing. It was not producing enough flow to keep the system on. The bathroom and kitchen worked fine, but the shower had too low of flow. Now it's off to Lowes to get a high flow shower head. Hopefully such a thing exists in California. The actual shower water pressure is very high without the head on it. Anyway...Rapid Water Heater is AWESOME! For sure you should use them!!! read more

A couple other plumbers recommended replacing my Rinnai with a new tankless system all together. I'm guessing they didn't want to fix it or didn't have the expertise. Probably a little of both.
