After coming out, David told me he believed a pipe may have burst and suggested that the issue could require major work. He strongly recommended involving a restoration company and provided a referral after I asked. Unfortunately, this is where things started to raise serious concerns for me. The restoration company he referred me to immediately pushed for a full demolition and urgent insurance claim involvement before there had been any meaningful investigation into the source or severity of the problem. The interaction felt highly sales-driven and unprofessional. There seemed to be significant pressure to move quickly and begin extensive work immediately, which created the impression that costly services were being recommended before proper diagnostics had even taken place. David also presented several repair scenarios ranging from a "conservative fix" to a "full fix," but the pricing felt high for what turned out to be a relatively minor issue. Thankfully, I decided to pause before moving forward. I sought multiple second opinions from other plumbers, and the outcome was dramatically different: not only did I not need any demolition at all, but the issue turned out to be a very simple repair. I ultimately had it fixed for a fraction of the cost with another plumber, saving thousands of dollars and avoiding an unnecessary homeowners' insurance claim and potential premium increases. I'm giving the two-star review to be fair to David, since he offered to start with a minor fix after the demolition guy also mentioned what appeared to be a cartridge issue with my bathtub, yet there was no discussion of not needing a full demolition for this minor fix from either the plumber or the demolition team. Looking back, it felt like there may have been a pattern of escalating a relatively simple plumbing issue into a much larger restoration and insurance project. **UPDATED** After posting my initial review, the owner contacted me again. He claimed familiarity with Bradford White water heaters but sent a screenshot about Rheem water heaters, which seemed irrelevant since I didn't even know Rheem was a brand before this exchange. The water heater in question is clearly labeled American Water Heater Co. (as seen in the picture I originally sent him). A quick online search for "American water heater white light" indicates the unit was operating normally, which I now know. But that's precisely why I reached out to a professional--I didn't claim to know what I was doing. Despite this, the owner dismissed my point and stated, "I promise you that if I was onsite, there is absolutely no way I would have misdiagnosed that". This logic doesn't hold up, as the video I provided clearly showed the same status light he would have seen in person. Other plumbers were able to diagnose the issue using the same video without being onsite. Additionally, at no point did True Value say, "It would be best if I came to take a look, as it's hard to say exactly what's wrong over the phone." Finally, regarding the "free quote over the phone": As a business, you should stand by the advice you provide, whether remotely or in person. If personal matters (like moving) make it difficult to focus on clients and/or affect your judgment in providing a reliable quote, it would be more professional to call back when available to offer more accurate input. Trying to charge me $425 (minimum) to $2,897 (maximum) for something that didn't need fixing is inexcusable. I understand that everyone has their own circumstances and that mistakes can happen. However, a refusal to take accountability is incredibly disheartening to see, especially from a veteran-owned business that otherwise seems respectable in reviews. If the owner truly stands by the positive reviews, then he should let those speak for themselves rather than spend time trying to discount and discredit my experience. That said, among all the glowing reviews, it does raise the question: how many customers were misquoted, received unnecessary services, and unknowingly overpaid? *initial review* Warning to anyone considering True Value. Absolutely do not recommend and they straight up lied and tried to scam me. Screenshots attached. My normal plumber was not available so I reached out to other companies. Hot water ran out at the house and I tried to relight it. It started flashing a white status light every 3 seconds. Was asked to send a video of the control panel and was told that "it looks like a thermocoupling issue and it needs to be replaced". Quoted 425-625 for labor if the manufacturer shipped out the parts. Quoted 1500 for LABOR ONLY to swap out the entire heater if the manufacturer provided a new one. Not only was the water heater NOT blinking with an error message, another plumber got back to me and said the blinking light indicated the water heater was just fine and needed to turn the dial to choose the water temp. Followed this advice and we have hot water again. Not only was there NO issue, they came up with an absolute made up issue to try and charge for something that didn't even need to be fixed. Even went as far to tell me what parts needed to be ordered. Either extreme inexperience or dealing in bad faith. And I highly doubt it's the former. read more

I had a backed up kitchen sink and True Value was the most responsive to my call and the plumbers came out next day. We had David & Alex come out and work on our sink, unfortunately due to our house being so old, our pipes were blocked so they had to to do a hydro blast. These two pros were at sit for hours until the issue was resolved. I really liked the fact that David took the time to explain everything they were doing and showing us the problems that they encountered. Blocked pipes are scary issues for homeowners, but with Professional guys like David and Alex I know we're in good hands. I salute these two hero's. Found out this morning that there was a water leak underneath the house in the basement. Called True Value Plumbing as they don't charge for just coming out to check. David came by, very professional and explained what the cost would be and why. Spoke with his manager to get my senior parents a discount, very grateful. Wow I'm super disappointed with our brief interaction with this business. The technician Sam came out fast and that is the extra star. However he barely looked at the under area of our bathroom sink, did not identify the source of the leak (which I have since done) as a small silver pipe attached to the white knob under the faucet - see attached picture. Instead he told us we would need to rip up the entire cabinet and possible floor so he could fix any potential leak. He also said not to worry about things since there was most likely not an active leak (not the case). Can't imagine having left things leaking for days more. He also scared us stating there was mold. I'm disappointed he didn't bother to take the time to identify the leak and propose a simple solution which looks to be replacing the little silver pipe.
