Been a Plumbing Tree customer for nearly a decade now. Always felt they were trustworthy and did a good job. Never the cheapest, but pricing felt fair. This weekend changed that and I will no longer be using Plumbing Tree. Lowlights: (transparency: Saturday call) $2600 for warranty water heater replacement (remove old, store exchange, install new) $350 svc fee ON TOP $145 fee ON TOP Constant pushing/selling of expensive upgrades even after I clearly stated it's been a bad day so just want basic replacement & nothing else. Long story; judge for yourself: Our water heater wouldn't light. Gas co said it needs replacing. It's under mfr warranty so just need to pay for labor. Contact mfr suggested plumber. $1600 quote. Oof, pricey, might as well just go with the company I trust. Call Plumbing Tree. They refuse to give us a ballpark figure but say they can come out for a $350 fee to quote on a Saturday. This is more than their normal fee but, weekend, so fine. I get it. Tech is nice but takes 30-40 mins assessing all sorts of things before the quote. It's strange b/c they're usually thorough but quick & to the point. He starts telling me about the lines, pressure etc. I tell him they've checked it before and it's good. He checks again anyway. It's good. K, fine... thorough. At around this point he starts telling me about going tankless. I say we've thought about it but we've had a few things recently which took us out of upgrade land where we were gonna do solar & tankless electrical but now we're squarely in maintenance mode. After more checks he comes back to tankless b/c they'd do a gas tankless requiring little electricity. Again, no thanks. He suggests getting a water filtration like our neighbor. Again, no thanks. Finally quote time. He tells me we should get their water heater because they can't warranty a "customer supplied" part. Okay, how much is theirs? $4600. Yikes! No thanks. I say, appreciate it but we've just taken some hits financially, rough week & just want to be done with this as quickly and basically as possible. He quotes $2600. I'm shocked, but just so defeated by my day that I'm like, fine whatever. He pulls our dinky 29gal tan. He tells me the previous work wasn't done well. We should replace the lines there for another $1300 or so. Again, no I'm good, can't spend more. He does the exchange and installs the tank. Wrap up time. He starts listing out everything, suggests line upgrades, other things to fix etc. I decline all of it. Okay, price $2600. Yep. But already I see another item. He's like oh yeah I had forgotten to add "parts procurement" which is getting parts etc. Even though the 2600 line item lists going to the store & everything. Again, long day, rainy, I'm done. Arg, whatever. Then he's like, oh, where's the svc fee? Adds the $350 svc fee. What? Why isn't that part of the full quote? It's always you get the job & the fee becomes part of it. He keeps saying it's not waivable, they should have mentioned it on the phone. Don't really know what that means in this context. Every time svc fees have been handled so the quote is the final bill. Whether they did some line item magic in the end I have no idea, but never has a quote not been inclusive of the fee to get the quote. Try to get some understanding on why this is different. Higher fee due to weekend I get, but why not part of the quote like it always is? He just keeps saying it's not waiveable. At this point I just sign. What else could I do? I'm tired, defeated, and the work done. $3100 for labor to replace a 29gal water heater. Straightforward job w/ no surprises. The techs from Plumbing Tree have always been very nice. Always felt like they were suggesting things just looking out for you. It was always inline with what they were doing. Pricing always seemed fair. Never felt like I was being up sold for no reason. Heck, once they had to loop back to their shop to get a tool & caused a delay. I didn't ask for a discount, they just apologized & gave it. That svc made me appreciate, trust and use them for everything. To be fair this was on the weekend. Previously I only used them during the week. Maybe a distinguishing factor to consider. Yes, the tech was nice. But he was pushing for any & every angle. I don't want to call for svc in need & feel like I have to be on the defensive the entire time. Worse when we've had a horrible day (capping a really bad week). Yes, the job looks good. Though to my eye it looks the same as the previous job. The constant selling? No thanks. The add on fees? A simple job where you're already getting $2600? Really? The cost? Crazy. Yes, weekend calls are more expensive. Weirdly the tech said the only difference on Monday would have been the svc fee. Regardless, the result was ~2x the next nearest quote. This didn't feel like it was fair, nor expensive. It felt like I got hustled. So you do you Plumbing Tree, but I'm out. Never again. read more

I am way overdue for writing this review for Plumbing Tree, but in a way, waiting a year has given me the opportunity to truly evaluate both their work and the long-term results. Plumbing tree completed major plumbing work in my home right before Christmas last year, including replacing cast-iron pipes and repairing the sewage line. Going into the project, I was understandably nervous, but Freddy, the owner, immediately put me at ease. He personally came out, took the time to explain the entire project in detail, and was incredibly patient throughout the process. He never rushed me and made sure all of my questions were fully answered. Freddy also provided thorough, easy to understand explanations of all my options for repair, not just for repairing the sewage line, but also regarding the water heater and overall plumbing considerations/needs throughout the home. Freddy presented tiered solutions/price points and helped me to make an informed decision toward identifiable solutions. I really appreciated receiving all of the options, along with a clear breakdown of the pros and cons and the identification of the most sustainable and cost-effective solution. Freddy and Steven also took video footage of the inside of my pipes and walked me through what they were seeing. That level of transparency really helped calm my nerves, and being able to see the footage myself made it much easier to make informed decisions. We have had several MAJOR projects wonderfully completed by this company (replacing sewer pipes and a tankless water heater in previous visits) and most recently we had another successful and superbly handled project in the hands of a most excellent plumber named Steven C. who replaced multiple angle valves throughout the house. Streven C. came to check out a water pressure issue in an upstairs shower and he also methodically and thoroughly completed an entire house inspection on all areas related to plumbing. He discovered several areas that he suggested be addressed complete with photos to illustrate the need but NO "high pressure" to fix. He let the photos speak for themselves, provided quotes and an opportunity to accept or reject the individual projects. I asked Plumbing Tree to come out to help me with a water hammer issue, and I was also looking into options for converting to an electric tankless water heater. Freddy came out on the first service call. I got a text ahead of my appointment with arrival progress tracker. Freddy arrived on time and was very courteous and professional throughout his visit. He diagnosed the water hammer issue and recommended strapping the pipes. We also discussed water heater options. Steven came out for the service call to strap and insulate the pipes under our house. Unfortunately, we discovered a sewage leak under the house. Steven called a renovation company for me and worked all day to complete the strapping and insulation. He went above and beyond, because he also dragged a bunch of old pipes out from under the house - materials left by the last company. I was very disappointed with my experience with Plumbing Tree. We were looking for quotes for replacing our toilet, and searched 3 businesses that offer free quotes. When the technician arrived, we were told it was $79 for the quote and would only be free if we immediately moved forward with same-day service. We called in to see if we could have this bill adjusted due to the misunderstanding, since every other plumbing company we called gave free quotes. We were instead threatened with a lien on our property and late fees if we didn't pay. I paid my bill, but this level of service and communication is very subpar for any business. read more

This review is for Steven C. Very friendly, very knowledgeable and VERY thorough. We had a clogged main sewer line. He came out, cleaned out the clog but noticed buildup inside the pipes so bad that we ended up having some pipe replaced and the rest descaled. Steven was very transparent throughout. Explained all of our options and let us make the decisions. No pressure, just an honest assessment of the situation and gave us recommendations. Kept the price as low as he could for a major repair. If Steven wasn't as thorough as he was, we would have never known how bad the pipe really was. He also provided us with pictures, videos and cut sections of pipe to show us the true condition of the pipe. We didn't need to take his word for it, we saw it with our own eyes. Their technician came as planned and I was quoted $950 to change a faucet and two valves, when he removed the old valves he ran into so issues with fitting the new valves and wanted to add $400 for fixing that. Last time I changed a faucet I paid $200 total. I have no issues with the technician, but the pricing by the company was way too high. In the end the tech left without completing the job and we had to turn off the water. Now I have to contact another plumbing company. On top of everything they contacted me later and asked for $79 for the quote. read more

We had flooring people re-doing our bathroom and they requested a plumber to uninstall/reinstall the toilet so I called Plumbing Tree - I had used Plumbing Tree in the past when they previously had per hour pricing and knew them to be of good value. The positives - they were available the day I needed them and the tech was friendly and knowledgeable, but the entirety of the experience really upset me. The job was to pull the toilet - long enough to install the floor and then - re-install the toilet. While we were waiting, maybe change out a few outdoor hose bibs. To start, the technician came back with a proposal to change out our water regulator plus other upgrades (like a new toilet) that cost over $2,000. He might have been right that those could have been updated, but that wasn't what he was brought here to do and it had the same feeling as an oil change shop wanting to charge $200 to change a $20 air filter. The quoted price for the toilet uninstall/reinstall was over $400 and each hose bib was about $200! I wasn't thrilled, but I had other contractors waiting and Plumbing Tree already had a $80 charge to just come out. So we nixed the outdoor bibs and I gave the go-ahead for the toilet. On uninstalling the toilet, we found that the toilet flange was too low and the previous owners "fixed" the problem by stacking a couple was rings on top of each other. Obviously this was not going to work - but to fix the toilet flange alone was over $800. I needed the flooring complete to move back into my house so I approved it. Long story short, I'm in $1,247 on this toilet project that took maybe 2.5 hours to complete. So we're talking maybe $500/hr. In fairness to Plumbing Tree, they alerted me that their pricing structure had changed to a per job/item, but wow - I still can't comprehend how this project should have had this price tag. read more

RIPOFF ALERT !!!! And if you don't want to read the whole thing, at least skip to the warning at the end. Don't use these guys. We had a pinhole leak in the copper pipe to the water heater. It just needed a couple feet of pipe and a fitting or two (in the pic, it's just the piece of pipe between the water heater and the timer). I'm thinking I could do this job for $40. Plumbing Tree came out and quoted me $1000 !!!!! Are you kidding me??? WTF!!! So I asked him to break it down. What are the material and labor costs? And he said they don't break it down like that ! What? Everyone breaks it down like that. I thought it was required by law in fact. It's too bad too because they've done some good work for me in the past but maybe there's new ownership or something. And I called them first because of that. But now I've requested quotes from other plumbers on Yelp and they're all coming in around $300. UPDATE: Collins Pacific Plumbing came out today. They had quoted me $350 and finished the job for $260. Now that's an honest plumber!! I don't understand how Plumbing Tree stays in business quoting people 4X THE GOING RATE!! Had an emergency where we needed a plumber to snake the branch line from the laundry room to the main, it was very slow draining and backing up. I left a message on a Sunday night and received a return call early Monday. He told me about the $79.00 service fee to come out to give an estimate and if the work was done it would be deducted from the repair cost. What he forgot to mention is that they no longer charge hourly and they have set pricing to do various jobs. Long story short.. same day service, knowledgeable and professional plumber came out and fixed the problem. He was on the job for no more than 2.5 hours and left with a payment of $450.00. Ouch! On a good note, my husband didn't have to deal with renting a snake, the mess, the headache and his valuable time to do it himself. Which he has done many times in the past. Thank you. read more

My office manager called Plumbing Tree to address a clogged drain in our industrial workers' bathroom. This is an event that occurs every 2-3 years due to hand cleaner buildup in the drain line. I was out on vacation at the time, so had to rely on my staff to manage the problem. The plumber came, and was unable to clear the line. Came back the following day, and was still unable to clear the line. They called me with a proposal to jackhammer up the floor and replace underground cast iron piping for $4,000. The funny thing is that we had replaced that entire line years ago with all ABS plastic. He insisted that it was cast iron until I let him know it was replaced, and he insisted that still the only way to clear the line was to jackhammer and replace piping for $4,000. I said no. They charged $703 for 2.5 hours of work, which I questioned. They said that it was a day's minimum charge, whether they worked 2 hours or 8 hours. Unbelievable. I had to pay it because I'm out of the country and was not in control of the promises made or charges OK'd by my staff. I let him know that I felt very cheated. So, $703 "down the drain" and a drain that still doesn't go down. I found another plumber on Yelp, and they came out the following day. 30 minutes later, $225 later, and the drain is clear and functioning normally. BTW, somewhere in the earlier stages of his attempts to clear the line, the technician told my office manager that we would have to pay $250 to camera the line in order for them to warranty their work. When he couldn't clear the line, he wanted to camera it anyway, but didn't even have a camera on the truck to use. Hmm.... maybe he was going to use his iPhone? I can honestly say that I've never encountered a more dishonest plumber than the guy from Plumbing Tree. I absolutely do NOT recommend them to anyone who wants to be treated fairly. read more

**RIP OFF ALERT** The only fault is I did not research current reviews on Plumbing Tree. I have used them before and they provided good service. Their business practices have definitely changed. When I called, the person/scheduler quoted $79 to come out and will be waived if I decided to go with the repair. I asked her how much will it cost to snake my utility sink drain. She reluctantly said a couple hundred. So I expected worse case that it was going to cost $200. When Angel, the technician, arrived, he quoted that it was going to cost $556 without inspecting anything. He didn't open the P-trap, or run the water, or use a camera. NOTHING AT ALL.....I said we need to stop talking now. He wanted to collect the $79. I told him that I agreed for them to come out because the scheduler said it was going to be a couple hundred. Angel then said that the previous phone call was recorded. I said to play it. He played it and he stopped the recording abruptly after the statement "IT WILL BE AROUND A COUPLE HUNDRED." This must be a common practice to trap victims. He then called the scheduler and put her on speaker phone. I felt like they were trying to bully me. Angel left and 30 minutes later the scheduler called my phone and said "THIS PHONE CALL IS BEING RECORDED" I said " I want you to record this." She wanted to argue and would not let me talk. My last words were that I agreed to pay a couple hundred and that $556 is far from a couple hundred. I hung up on her.
