We're constantly searching for a good kebab place in the Bay Area. We think we found one in Caspian. The great food quality and taste, excellent service, and a nice atmosphere all come as a package here. My wife ordered the chicken (breast meat) kebab and I ordered the chicken (thigh) and koobideh combo plate. Both came with a generous amount of protein, rice, salad, and grilled vegetables. The kebabs were very flavorful and grilled to perfection. Our entrees were preceded by a small plate of pita wedges and two dipping sauces (hummus and yogurt cucumber garlic). Following the meal, we were also presented with two beautiful cups of hot tea. It was a great way to cap off the meal on a cold rainy day. Our server, Ana, was fantastic. Even though she was handling several tables at once, including a party of 7 seated next to us, she didn't miss a beat. She frequently checked on us and had a very pleasant demeanor. The restaurant is tastefully decorated and has a great atmosphere overall. Prices are moderately high but is well worth it since they use good quality ingredients and portion size is large enough to have plenty of leftovers. read more

Great spot in Palo Alto! I went by myself and thoroughly enjoyed the food & atmosphere here. Server was kind & attentive. I'd recommend coming here with at least 2-3 people though because their portions are family-sized & BIG! But oh my god the food was good. Pretty good Mediterranean food. We ordered take out, and tried their chicken, steak and ground beef kabobs. Everyone liked the ground beef one, it's well seasoned and quite juicy. The chicken and the steak were a bit dry. The falafel was also a bit dry... not sure if it's be better if we had eaten at the restaurant. Their hummus was good too, although the pita were a tad hard to our liking. The grape leaf wrapped rice was ok, not a huge fan of the sweet and sour sauce. Overall, pretty solid spot for Mediterranean food. Will definitely come back for more! read more

I love Mediterranean food and I stopped at Caspian with a coworker on a business trip and it was phenomenal. We ended up splitting the sample platter that is made for two. You start off with some assorted appetizers. You get 8 different kinds of assorted hummus, baba ganoush, eggplant spread, and yogurt dip. Of course they serve it with fresh pita bread. The appetizer platter also comes with dolma and and some fried falafel balls. My favorite was the red pepper hummus- amazing! The appetizer portion was pretty healthy and then they brought out the main course. You get a giant plate of Persian rice for each person and then a platter of 4 different kabobs and vegetables. The 4 kabobs include chicken (best damn chicken I've ever had, filet, ground beef, and lamb. They say the platter is for 2 people, but you'd really have no trouble splitting it 3 ways. Wonderful restaurant in Mountain View. Great food, Awesome service, and wonderful hospitality. Visited this place with family for lunch and liked it a lot. While pricing was a bit steep (seems the norm in this area), loved the flavors of the food. The Gyro Salad was great, nice portion. Would have liked the gyro meat to be a bit tender but it tasted great. The Chicken Kabob was cooked just right to have the flavors come thru. The rice in the platters was very flavorful as well. The appetizer sampler is a must have. With multiple refills of Pita, the dips tasted awesome. Favs were the baba ghanoush along with the dolmas and falafels which were very tender instead of the usual hard crusted ones. The hummus was very flavorful as well. Came by for dinner the other night and it was a mediocre experience. Despite being next door to Cost Plus with plenty of parking, numerous cars were parking over the line?!? There were plenty of tables available upon arrival and we were seated immediately. Service throughout the meal was spectacular! We were even presented a complimentary appetizer sampler. ...the challenge however, was the food. ...I wasn't a fan of the sampler appetizer nor the entrees. The rice was bland and tasted soggy when cold. The koobideh was flavorful and juicy, probably the best of the meats. 4.5 stars! Caspian Restaurant, located in an unassuming strip mall in Mountain View, serves fantastic Persian food along with amazingly hospitable service! The setting is surprisingly elegant, yet family-friendly. After we ordered, our server started us off with a Greek salad on the house, a simple mixture of romaine lettuce, tomatoes, cucumbers, onions, olives, and crumbled feta. What a lovely surprise! The first thing we ordered was the appetizer sampler, a double-decker tray, which came with falafel (crumbly/dry, rather than crispy), dolma (rice in grape leaves), plenty of pita bread, tomato/cucumber salad, and seven different dips: two yogurt sauces (masto khiar and mast moosir), two eggplant dips (kashke bademjan and baba ganoush), and three different kinds of hummus, all flavored slightly differently! I just love these types of starters platters where you get to try so many different things all at once! But the real star of this restaurant is the kebabs. We had the baghali polo, which was a dish of fragrant basmati rice mixed with dill and fava beans, served with salad and a delicious chicken kabob, which had been beautifully marinated and grilled to juicy perfection! At each table was a shaker of ground sumac (a spice with a lemony flavor) that just paired perfectly with the meat! The menu prices here may seem a bit high, but the portion sizes were super generous (we had plenty to take home), and the hospitality and elegance of this restaurant were just so unexpected, given its location! [Ambiance] - Had both indoor and outdoor seating - Staff is masked and there is hand sanitizer available for use - Very clean and pleasant decor inside & pleasant muzak at a nice volume [Food] - You get a nice serving of toasted flatbread with mast-o-khiar/cucumber yogurt and garlic cream dip - Come here HUNGRY or if you want leftovers because the servings are HUGE in comparison to other restaurants with the same or similar menu but still at a very good price! - I had the Healthy Choice Ground Beef Kabobs, which came with 2 nice, long & juicy and deliciously spiced! Came with a nice salad serving, roasted veggies (tomatoes, zucchini, yellow squash, onions) and various dips (mast-o-khiar/cucumber yogurt, baba ghanoush, hummus and garlic cream dip). - My mom had the Zereshk Polo/chicken thigh kabobs, oh my word, it was so juicy and tender, I almost wanted to switch plates! The basmati rice with the barberries gave a nice tang to the dish as a whole! I was glad my mom let me take her leftovers! Thankful I searched on Yelp and found this restaurant with really great reviews! We came at around 6pm on a Saturday and there was plenty of seating inside. We were able to get seated immediately with 4 adults, 2 kids, and a stroller! The decor inside was really nice and I thought the water glasses were quite fancy! It was a very warm evening so it was very refreshing to have large carafes of mint water! We were a big group so we ordered the setareh 3 course. WOW! It was a lot of food. We even had leftovers to take home! We probably didn't need to order the extra skewers (koobideh & chicken). I was a bit disappointed with the chicken skewers. It was quite dry and not very flavorful. But everything else we ordered was AMAZING! The appetizer sampler is HUGE!! There were so many great varieties on the tiered platter! It was nice to try a little bit of everything! The koobideh & steak meats were my favorite! Caspian definitely exceeded my expectations! Service was super friendly and quick! I had a weird schedule that day so I asked Gavin if he wanted to attend his last day of summer program thinking he would want to chill w/ me but he picked his school over his own mom! I worked out in the morning, went for a bike ride at Shoreline, and decided to refuel here. I came right before they opened so there wasn't anyone in the restaurant but after 12PM this place filled up quickly. Service was great and I loved being the only patron there. I felt that the focus was entirely on me. I was going to order the lamb but I was told the filet mignon was better. As I was waiting the complimentary pita bread and hummus was brought out which was perfect because my meal did not come out fast. After 2 workouts I was Starvin' Marvin/ The wait though was so worth it. The filet was juicy and I can't say enough great things about the grilled tomato. I know it's only a tomato but it made the dish just perfect. The rice was OK. I enjoyed the salad very much. All of the hummus from the complimentary dish was delicious as well. We ordered grilled chicken there, after 1 hour of bringing the food, while eating, we realized that the food is very salty and very sour, but there was no one to tell them that I cook by myself, and I realized that there was some grilled chicken left, and because of the greed, it was old. Three Stew and Rice Sampler: if you want to try the different dishes I'd consider it but the portions for each stew were small. I'd consider just a single stew next time. It came with: A. Geimeh - good. It needed a little salt but it was alright. B. Fesenjan - good. I liked it but I'm not usually in the mood for sweet meat as an entree. C. Gormeh sabzi - not a huge fan of this dish in general. But it's probably good for what it is. D. Baghali polo - good E. Zeresh polo - alright. They add rose water I think into it which I've never seen before 3. Koobideh - delicious. 4. Faloodeh - interesting how they give lime juice and sour cherry syrup on the side. It was good. 5. Saffron ice cream - delicious. TL/DR: this place is good. The sampler is small for the price. I think the stews are probably good for what they are. My boyfriend and I visited on a Friday evening before we went to a concert at shoreline amphitheater. The restaurant is big, well decorated and pretty, but it was empty when we showed up. The place started filling up about half way through our meal. As appetizer, we got the hummus platter -- SO good! The variety and taste of the hummus was great, plus huge portions that lasted through our main entrees as well. The bread was nice and warm and we were given more upon request after we finished our first round. As entrees, we both got the chicken kabob plates. The chicken was tender and soft, wasn't undercooked, and was grilled perfectly. The sides complemented the meal well. Service was great and very friendly. The packaged food very well and it was delivered still hot. The best part is even though we got it delivered through DoorDash, the meat was not over cooked. That was my biggest worry! Fluffy rice paired well with the nicely seasoned meat. The sauces were all great to use with the pita bread. Server failed to mention that both of our meals ALREADY CAME WITH A NEAR IDENTICAL SALAD She then argued with us that this was stated on the menu (it wasn't, as I showed her) when we pointed out that we'd have appreciated her confirming our intent when we ordered. Salads--both the included one and the greek salad we ordered were genuinely lackluster and dragged down our assessment of the food. $17 for a greek salad that was 90% lettuce with a couple tomato/cucumber slices and green (not kalamata) cocktail olives is a flagrant rip-off. read more

Service and food quality are ok. I ordered the filet mignon and ground beef combo. Now one important thing about Kabobs is they must be hot, the ground beef one especially if cold is much like a cold burger. My food was cold and I had to send it back to be warmed up, even then when it returned it was warmish and went cold again quickly. Problem is the metal dishes they insist on using act like a heat sink and cause the food to go cold quickly. It is a large portion , even if it was hot to start with which mine was not , by the time you are partially through the meal it gets cold. I suggest either get rid of the metal dishes or insert a pre warmed ceramic dish inside them to keep the food hot. read more
