I had a very nice time here last weekend. It was my first visit. I stayed two nights. There is…read morefree guest self parking and a valet parking option. The staff were all helpful and friendly. There was someone playing live music at certain times of the day. The room was clean and had a simple but nice setup. The shower had great water temperature and pressure. We had an ocean view room which was worth the extra cost. Waking up to the beach every morning was so satisfying. Reading on the balcony while listening to the ocean sounds and watching the waves was everything that I needed. The hotel has beach towels that are easily checked out through a machine. Beach chairs and umbrellas are available first come first serve to hotel guests which is very convenient. There was a heated outdoor pool, a volleyball net and a few games inside. We ate all of our meals at the hotel. We ate at the grab and go food spot. I ordered the feta and spinach croissant, a chocolate chip scone and a cappuccino. We also ate dinner at the latitude 30. I ordered a ceasar salad and calamari. For breakfast at latitude 30, I ordered the French toast dish that comes bacon and I ordered a side of eggs. We also ate at the fine dining restaurant onsite where I ordered the seared scallops dish and the vanilla crème brûlée. All of the meals that we ate at the hotel were very tasty. The restaurant staff were all kind and the utensils were spotless. I believe food may have also been served at the bar near the pool, but I didn't try any food from there during my visit. I really had an enjoyable time at this hotel and I plan to return in the future.

Live music every day by the pool was awesome! And talented performers! The beach itself is right behind the resort and has the softest sand. Wanted was rough but we were still able to get in a slash around and jump some waves. The property was recently purchased by new owners after being owned by sand owner who opened it in 1987, which is impressive. Mervin in the restaurant was kind and friendly and been there 12 years. Glinda in the restaurant was the SWEETEST lady there. She maker the omelettes. (Get the omelettes!! Yum!) John and Greg are great pool side bar tenders. The gentleman at the lobby bar was also friendly and attentive, we didn't catch his name. The list of things we wished were different is short. Could have used speakers playing music during the times at the pool when there wasn't live music. Wait times in the restaurant were long. (Food was hit or miss...not horrible but mostly unremarkable... However the spinach dip at the casual restaurant is off the charts and the wagyu steak at Voyagers is incredible!!) We cannot say enough about the marvelous staff. We will definitely be back! We wish them luck in this transition.

We had a great time on our trip to Orange Beach and really enjoyed our stay. The room was clean,…read morethe bed was comfy, and the staff was so friendly. We called the front desk to see if we could get more pillows and they sent them up very quickly :) This hotel is right on the beach and our room had a balcony. We were on the side but we could still see the Gulf which was nice. We enjoyed a drink or two out there after our day at the beach. There's a pool and Barr at the pool that serves yummy cocktails that you can take up to your room. It was a very enjoyable experience. While the hotel is taking precautions for COVID, the guests aren't trying to follow the mask policy which sucks. There are signs posted everywhere about the policy but it isn't enforced. That's my reason for 4 stars instead of 5

So I got a hotel room for an ocean view…read more Now I would like get this a 3.5 stars but I can't, because it's not. 4 but not a 3. Hmmm. The room was a huge area, pretty good deal, but there were some questionable things. Like first off, the carpet right when you get in, is tore up. Like frazzled with a big patch. The luggage rack had rust and an empty coffee cup was chilling. But everything else was good, clean bed and well kept furniture . It also had a direct beach access! Overall, I wouldn't mind coming back, I would like to se either rooms.

The Lodge is the best hotel in the GS/Orange Beach/Pensacola area. Why?…read more 1. Location: On the beach, in Gulf State Park, Orange Beach and OWA both only a few miles away. 2. Love the amenities here: Two pools, two restaurants, nice coffee shop, Dragonfly (outdoor bar and grill), and good fitness center. 3. The Lodge has 3 sections for the guestrooms. Five floors each. Rooms are nicely appointed, clean, and comfortable. Even numbered rooms face the beach. Can't say enough good things about this hotel. Beautiful lobby, numerous places to sit and relax, big parking lot by the convention center side of property, valet service available.

I am thrilled that I bit the bullet and booked our stay here while we were in Gulf Shores…read more A few reviews on TripAdvisor did cause me to question even though it seems like a great place. The main complaints were that it involved too much walking (from the parking lot, to the room, etc). Unless you are significantly disabled and if so, I have no idea how you get around in the world, it's really not much walking at all. If you think this is too much walking, never live in NYC you will not survive. If the issue is walking from the parking lot, do valet and you don't have to walk from the parking lot. If the issue is walking from the main building, you have to walk MAYBE 1/3-1/2 of a football field to the building where the rooms are. It's such a nothingburger it's like a joke. If anyone thinks that is a lot of walking, they probably need to call Dr. Now. Another issue I saw in a review is that it is hard to find. It isn't. Like, at all. There is a sign and you can see it from the road. I hope that person is ok they might need to get their eyes checked. Now that I'm done talking shit, let's talk about the good things. Everyone is very nice and helpful. The views are stunning and from everywhere. From the main check in lodge, from the pool, from the beach front view rooms, from the restaurants. We had a balcony and it was just water/beach/gulf views. It was legit comparable to resorts we stayed in in Cancun and Seminyak, Bali. The water wasn't quite as "blue/turquoise" but not much The Lodge can do about that. The room is very spacious. The bathroom is lovely. The shower was wonderful. The bed was super comfortable and soft. The AC worked very well. There were a bunch of outlets on my side but less on the other side (however there were outlets on both sides). The restaurants had, as I said above, excellent views. They also has wonderful staff and very tasty food. They could have done better with the vegetarian options. The bread was probably the best part and was some of the best bread and whipped butter I have ever had. They do that shit where they text you and ask if you need anything, which is very helpful especially for us millennials. GF asked me to request an extra blanket, which I did. The response time was great, it was super fast. They told me they would send one up but never did, which was a bummer. Another piece of feedback, shortly after 8:30am, we had a knock at the door. GF was in the bathroom and I was getting dressed. They knocked again. I, half dressed, opened the door. It was housekeeping asking if we were checking out. Uh....yeah, we are.. This is a huge pet peeve of mine. What if we wanted to sleep in? What if I was out and GF was on the toilet? What if someone was getting out of the shower? It just feels like an invasion of privacy. It just seems wild that housekeeping felt like bothering us to find out if we were checking out. I would definitely stay here again if I returned but I would put the "do not disturb" sign up

Annual National Shrimp Festival - We're here early & gonna have shrimp for breakfast,oh yeah!!

Annual National Shrimp Festival

It's the 48th annual shrimp festival on Gulf Shores beach in Gulf Shores, Alabama (October 2019)…read moreLive music, 84° sunny weather, sandy beaches, arts & crafts, lots of food and oh yeah SHRIMP!! Me & my limpy sweetheart just chillin', eatin' & beachin' the afternoon away. Beach life is a good life, especially when you know you have earned it. For 48 years this volunteer-driven event has been a Gulf Shores tradition. Food, music, art, and so much more make up an event that draws over a estimated 250,000 people from all around the planet. The 1/4 million draw is a far cry from the humble beginnings which wasn't much more than a glorified shrimp boil that had a half dozen booths and lasted all of 6 hours. It really has evolved into a world-class event that last four days with over 300 exhibitors that has everything from fine art, arts & crafts, food demonstrations, and a retail marketplace plus vendor booths from Chevy trucks to memory foam mattresses and a lot more. It's an area that covers nearly half a mile with 4-6 walking double isles that stretch from the beaches edge out into beach boulevard, it's pretty darn big and keeps getting bigger. The Annual National Shrimp Festival remains a FREE event open to everyonesince its inception in 1971 when it began as a way to keep the tourist at the beach after Labor Day, which was traditionally the end to the season. Unlike areas, like Cape Cod, where many businesses close their doors until Memorial day, mostly due to cold weather, the weather in Gulf Shores is traditionally still very summer-like in October. Today on Oct 11th it was 89° and there were plenty of beach goers and even some who were having a hard time dealing with the heat. Mainly those folks working from early in the day behind those big tents with big fryers that find the midday heat a little hard to handle however there's plenty of places for event goers to find shade and places to sit, hydrate and catch the ocean breeze. Parking is tough because they close beach boulevard around the fest and lots of prime areas are taken up by vendors so every inch of available space is $10 to park everywhere. The exception is handicap parking which is pretty plentiful and free close to the fest. The good news is there's a lot of shuttles coming in from miles around in all directions. Wristbands for the shuttle can be purchased for $5.00 per day. CASH ONLY. Children 6 and under do ride for free. For all the particulars on shuttles visit their website at: http://www.myshrimpfest.com/shuttles.html Before I talk shrimp music is a big deal here and you can catch local talent and national recording artists on two different stages of during all hours of the festival performing everythinh from classic rock to country. You can bring your chairs & blankets for a good seat to any or all of the shows however be advised that there are no coolers allowed. Another note, everything is handicap accessible right down to all the restrooms with ramps at several locations throughout. Okay let's talk food. There's food vendors from one end of the fest to the other with everything from chicken, burgers, sausages, phillies, pizza, hot dogs, pasta, salads, bloomin' onions, nachos to gator & shark on a stick, Alaskan king crab, all kinds of crawfish, scallops, bunches of different fish dishes, jerky, fritters, lobster and of course a pltheroa of shrimp and a whole lot more. Yes there is beer vendors as well as lots if tea & lemonade stands everywhere and course lots of ice cream choices. We ate fritters, fried shrimp, grilled scallops with fried rice & fries and had some big fresh squeezed lemonades. [I have one complaint .... there's a bunch of Nanny's lemonade stands that advertise regular & sugar-free lemonade. I asked for sugar-free but them was told they only have swee n low, whaaaaaat? No other sweeteners? That is a serious southern thing that is not just not cool because that stuff tastes icky to me] no more complaints. Bottom line: The volunteers truly make this event a real hit because it's many locals, neighbors and muli-generational people who take pride in their hometown. The organizers also continue to push the limits in exhibits, entertainment, amenities and put a huge premium on safety and comfort. It's truly a world class event that appeals to the entire family year after year.

This is such a joke because you're hard-pressed to find any fresh shrimp. The only place that I…read morefound it was at the local grocery store that had fresh bowl shrimp and everything else is fried and the shrimp are coupled with fried green tomatoes and fried lobster and everything else fried you can imagine and they are all cooked in the same grease. Very few vendors sell anything with a shrimp on it. Basically this is just a county fair with no rides. I live down here and was excited because we hadn't had it for two years but never again will I waste my time!
