If you're looking for a place where families can let their kids have fun and make memories, this may not be the best choice. It seems more geared toward people who want a very quiet, heavily regulated resort rather than an active, family-friendly campground. But your employees barely do anything. They just pick up the trash bag and that's it. The employees you have working here are so rude and they make up rules as they go.. If they do not want smokers smoking in certain places, put up signs where you do not want people to smoke at! I have never seen them even test the pool and I run every morning! All they do is pick up the trash at the end of the driveways. This park has potential but they need to hire people who are actually willing to work! I have even heard customers complain about how nasty the cabins are. They never clean the inflatables either! We have spent a lot of money to be mistreated. And not to be able to use the ammentities you guys supposedly offer because your employees refuse to actually clean them! Not to mention, I've walked around this park every night cleaning the loose trash (3-4 trash bags) that your employees are to lazy to do. 10/10 this place isn't worth it! This wasn't even that bad

Hoping this will be an annual event, as the art community convened a plein air event, bringing together artists with the inspiration of Gulf State Park's many habitats. The result was a large number of paintings which were for purchase at the closing reception at the end of the week. The weather was mild, the food and drink at The Lodge was yummy (I had the steak and eggs for brunch), and it was so cool to watch the artists paint live.

The speed limit is 5 MPH and we all obey (low dust and much safer). Friendly folk stay here. Some use it as a base to explore the area, some to recharge their batteries. The office has two single person bathrooms with a bathroom (cleanest and best smelling bathroom I've ever used). Sit by the bay or go fishing from the pier while George the Heron waits for handouts. Evenings feature a social circle around the chimera. This campground is a hidden gem 15 minutes from the hub-bub of activity. Well-behaved dog friendly with a designated walking area. No playground, pool or game room, but the office has books and games to borrow, as well as a coffeemaker. Laundry and Ice are on site. Going west, you can go to Fort Morgan of take the ferry to Dauphin Island (check out Sassy Bass bar and grill). Going east, you have Gulf Shores, Orange Beach and all the Gulf activities you can afford. BTW... go grocery shopping at Rouses, excellent deli, great seafood and meat (aged beef) and ready cooked food. Happy Pappy Coffee is my favorite stopping place.

We've been coming here for over 30 years and there's been some serious changes and some big ones have happened just since we retired and became full time residents over 5 years ago. Here's a chronological history of the Gulf State Park Pier, including information about the construction, destruction, and rebuilding processes, estimated costs, and amenities: * 1930s: The Gulf State Park Pier was constructed along with other park facilities by members of the Civilian Conservation Corps under federal supervision. * 1968: The first saltwater pier was built, becoming a popular attraction in the park. * 1979: Hurricane Frederic destroyed the pier. * 1979-2004: The pier was rebuilt, providing fishing and recreational opportunities for visitors. * 2004: Hurricane Ivan damaged the rebuilt pier. * 2004-2009: The pier underwent reconstruction efforts. * 2009: The rebuilt pier reopened, featuring a length of approximately 1,080 feet and various amenities such as comfort stations and wheelchair-accessible rail fishing. * 2020: The pier was scheduled to reopen following a $2.4 million renovation that included an extension, making it 1,540 feet long with 2,448 feet of fishing space, it is the second longest pier on the Gulf of Mexico. However, Hurricane Sally direct hit Gulf Shores before the grand reopening, damaging a 200-foot section of the pier. * November 2023: The pier closed for a $13.6 million renovation project led by MD Thomas Construction to repair the damage caused by Hurricane Sally. * The Pier reopened to sightseers and anglers on Monday, Aug. 19, 2024 at 7am, as the renovation work that began in November 2023 was finally completed. The people are nice, but the row of campers permanently parked along the water leaves 2 spots available for transient people coming through. Otherwise, your in a mobile home park complete with old broken down trailers and all sorts of broken machinery around including old vehicles outside of old worn out decks and custom awnings. People have grown out of their trailers and have refrigerators and "junk" strewn about everywhere. In spite of that it is safe and the people are nice who have the view. They have it all! The rest have to deal with looking st each other and talking over the road noise. Pot holes fill the streets guaranteed to shake everything loose inside your rig, the public spaces such as the bathrooms... well just look at the pictures and you decide. I walked in, looked around, turned around then walked out never to return. My camper was sprayed by the ferrel cats that dominate the shoreline. I'm an animal lover, but I'll be dog gone if I'm gonna let cats smell up my trailer!

I am very disappointed. I have camped at Southport before, and have been attempting to contact them to make a reservation for about 3 weeks. First, upon calling the voicemail box was full. Then, when trying to call again I received an auto text response that indicated that they were on another line. I have e-mailed the address listed on the site twice, neither of which received a response. I tried calling again multiple times and received the same text. Finally on April 30th, I decided to text the auto response message and request information on a reservation - and got a response requesting to know how many people and tents I would need. I replied with the information, and that was the last I heard from them. It is now May 8th, and after repeated voice mails and text messages requesting information on the rental, I have been completely ignored. The phone has never been answered and I have attempted to call many times. I would not recommend this campsite to anyone.
